Thalia Grace lived in the present.
She liked to move on although sometimes it wasn't that easy.
She looked at the bark of the tree and closed her eyes for a moment. She wiped off a traitor tear drop from the corner of her eye and sighed. She opened her eyes and stood up only to notice that she wasn't alone.
"Emily." She nodded to the other demigod who was standing a few feet away patiently.
"Lady Artemis sent me to look for you. We are ready to move on," she said quietly and simply. Thalia was thankful that she didn't ask about the little scene she has just witnessed.
"Thank you, Emily." The daughter of Zeus nodded. However, she didn't move. When the other demigod, the daughter of Demeter noticed it she stopped too.
"Aren't you coming?" she asked curiously, but there was no pretentiousness in her voice. Thalia looked at the tree once again and she didn't answer for a moment.
"What should I tell Lady Artemis?" Emily asked simply. Thalia looked up and fixed her blue eyes on the daughter of the harvest goddess.
"I will follow you in no time. Please, Emily, just leave me alone for a moment," she asked and her fellow Huntress nodded slowly. Thalia really liked the kind and quiet daughter of the harvest goddess. She wasn't nosy or annoying; she gave space to everyone and understood every person. She was a great friend in Thalia's opinion.
"Okay," Emily agreed but she didn't move for a second. When she left Thalia turned back to the tree which held so much memories.
On the middle of the bark someone scratched two letters with a plus symbol between them: T+L
Tom and Lauren?
Tamara and Leo?
Tim and Lisa?
Tracy and Larkin?
Thalia didn't need to guess what the two letters meant as she was there when they were scratched.
Thalia and Luke
She was close to laughing out hysterically or to break down in tears. She still remembered that day. Luke was the one who wrote that two letters as a promise. He said that he would always be there for Thalia. He said that if she wanted one day he would marry her.
It was Luke's promise, a promise which was broken.
The distance between her new life and her old seemed bigger than ever. She wasn't the same naive girl anymore who believed that she was going to have her happily ever after with the boy who meant her everything.
No, she has grown up. She wasn't 'little Thalia on the run with her best friend' anymore. She was Thalia, daughter of Zeus and Lieutenant of the Hunters of Artemis. The distance was too big between the two lives; she wasn't able to cross it anymore. She had to move on.
She got up and turned to the trail where Emily disappeared. She followed it without ever looking back.
She accepted that her life wasn't ever going to be like she planned when she was younger.
