A/N: Hey guys! Thank you so much for the reviews. This is via request of MasteringAMuggleLife who suggested a story about Greg meeting the rest of the gang on his first day. Another warm and fuzzy story, but don't worry; we'll be back to the drama soon ;)

Summary – It's Greg's first day at the lab and he's extremely nervous about meeting his new team, but Ecklie doesn't help matters…

First Day

Catherine Willows was rummaging around in her locker when she spotted the frantic blur rush past. The CSI frowned and stood in the doorway, peering up and down the hall to see what had caused the disturbance. Just to the left, a boy Catherine would have placed at no older than 20 was pacing back and forth, murmuring worriedly to himself.

"Excuse me?" Catherine called over to the boy, motherly instinct telling her she couldn't just leave him stood there looking like a startled deer in the headlights. "Can I help you?"

"Yes...maybe…" the young man said looking at her nervously and scratching his head a little "I'm looking for Mr Brass; he's head of the grave shift, right?"

"Yeah" Catherine said "Do you want to report a crime..?"

"Oh! No, I work here" the young man said with a smile. "It's my first day actually. I'm Greg Sanders, the new DNA guy" he stuck out his hand.

Catherine couldn't help but be a little shocked, but she soon overcame it and shook Greg's hand "I'm Catherine Willows, level three CSI on night shift"

"Oh, cool so we'll be working together" Greg said with an eager smile, Catherine didn't think she'd ever seen a beam so bright.

"Yes…I'm sorry I know this is a bit personal but, how old are you?" the CSI asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh, it's okay…" Greg said with a wave of dismissal "I'm twenty two"

"Wow, you look younger" Catherine told him.

Greg blushed "Thank you…" he said, growing shy all of a sudden "I know you probably think I'm too young or inexperienced to take on a job like this…"

"Oh! No" Catherine said waving her hand "Hey, I can't judge until I see you in action. Age has nothing to do with it"

"Okay…" Greg said looking at the floor and shuffling his feet, not knowing what else to say. "I hope I impress"

"I'm sure you will" Catherine said with a smile "Come on, I'll take you to Brass's office…"

Catherine had left to collect her evidence after leading Greg to the office, where Jim Brass was sat talking to his second in command, Gil Grissom. Greg instantly grew tense as he shuffled into the room, both the older men giving off an intimidating vibe.

"Hello" the young man squeaked "I...I'm Greg"

"Sanders?" Brass asked picking up a file, the young man frantically nodded his head. "Our new DNA technician?"

"Yes, that's me" Greg said with a wobbly smile.

"There's no need to be so nervous, kid" Brass assured him "We won't bite…"

"Not like a bullet ant" the other man in the room spoke. He looked very wise to Greg, reading a file intensely over the brim of his glasses.

"Excuse me?" Greg asked confused.

"A bullet ant" the man repeated, looking up at him "It's bite is rated as a 4.0, which is the equivalent to having a three inch long rusty nail grinding into your heel."

Greg's eyes widened "Do they have those in Vegas?!" he asked worriedly.

The man just smiled and got up from his seat "Gil Grissom, assistant supervisor…"

"And resident bug man" Brass added.

"Greg Sanders" the young man replied "And I would like to know more about these dangerous insects"

"Don't get him started…" Brass warned with a roll of his eyes, he'd sat through enough lectures himself.

"Do you like spiders, Greg?" Grissom asked.

Greg blinked "Huh?"

"Spiders, do you like them?"

"Well…I'm not afraid of them" Greg said, he wasn't sure if the man was looking for a particular answer.

"Then I think we'll get along just fine" Grissom said with a small smile, before tucking the file under his arm and walking out of the room.

Greg watched him go and then just looked at Brass with a slightly confused look.

"Yeah, that's about right" Brass said getting up from his desk "You'll get use to him. He's a good friend of mine and an extremely intelligent man. C'mon, I'll show you to your lab"

Greg had been working frantically in his lab all night. He hadn't had the time to become accustomed to his new settings, as when he had arrived there was already a pile of evidence waiting for him. Greg was extremely nervous, this wasn't a test anymore like in his training, this was real evidence, for real cases, and he knew that he couldn't afford to mess up.

The young man hadn't even stopped for a break as he feared falling behind, and if he wasn't processing evidence it was because he was flying around trying to find the right CSI's to give results to.

Greg was trying to track one of the CSI's down, realising his attempts were futile when he didn't even know what the man looked like. He spotted an elderly man with a walking stick and younger man heading towards the stairs.

"Excuse me!" he called after them, both men turned around "Do you know where I can find CSI Stokes?" Greg asked "I have some DNA results for him"

"Yes, we're just about to go meet him in autopsy" the elderly man smiled "You must be Greg"

"Autopsy…" Greg breathed as he thought about the grim and lowly place; he hoped that was something he wouldn't have to experience for a while. The young man shook his head to regain his focus "Yes, I am, nice to meet you" he shook hands with both the men.

"I'm Al Robbins, the coroner" the older man explained "But everyone just calls me Doc, this is David my assistant" the younger man smiled at Greg. "We can take those results to give to Nick if you like"

"Oh, yes, thank you" Greg said handing over the files "Could I ask…erm…what exactly drew you both to cutting up dead bodies for a living?"

"We could ask why you want to look at other people's sperm and saliva for a living" David quipped, and Greg blushed.

"Curiosity and fascination" Robbins answered with a smile "And it feels kind of good, knowing that you're helping people even after they're dead"

"Yeah…" Greg said quietly "Anyway I better go back; it was nice meeting you both"

"You too" David replied, and Greg jogged back to his lab.

Nick and Warrick were the only members of the night shift left who hadn't met the new tech yet. Everyone had described him as polite and friendly, but very nervous. He was also very young, and Catherine had warned Nick and Warrick to treat Greg nicely, or else they'd have hell to pay. Nick and Warrick had just pretended to look offended at the thought they could ever be mean, but didn't promise anything.

"Hey, there he is" Nick whispered to Warrick as they watched the young man going back and forth between his desk and a microscope.

"He looks like he should still be in school" Warrick replied.

"Do you think we should put him through his paces a little?" Nick smirked.

"I don't know man, he looks like a quivering wreck" Warrick replied ,watching as Greg tried to pour something into a test tube, but his hands were shaking too much "I don't think he could take it"

"Yeah, you're right, poor kid. Maybe we should just go talk to him" Nick suggested, having a sudden change of heart.

"Okay" Warrick agreed and they headed over.

"Hey!" Nick called to Greg.

The young man was caught off guard by the sudden interruption and dropped the tube he was holding, the glass shattering everywhere. "Oh, no" Greg mumbled as he quickly knelt down to pick up the pieces.

"I'm sorry, man" Nick said feeling guilty as he and Warrick went over to help Greg.

"No, it's okay" Greg said quietly, as they finished cleaning it up and he put the pieces in the trash "It was just water"

"Well, this isn't the best introduction we could have had, but I'm Warrick Brown, and this is Nick Stokes" the CSI said.

"Hey, Greg Sanders" the DNA tech said shaking their hands. "You two are CSI's right?"

"Yes, level twos, although we're hoping to be level threes soon" Nick explained.

"Oh, that's cool" Greg smiled. "I've always wanted to be a CSI, I just thought maybe I could use the lab tech thing as a starting point for a few years…"

"That sounds like a good idea" Warrick said "Are you settling in okay?"

"Yeah…sure…kind of…" Greg sighed and lowered his head "It's harder than I thought. I haven't been able to take a break all night because people keep bringing me things…but I can't complain, this is what I signed up for and I'll get used to it I'm sure"

"Of course you will buddy, it's only day one" Nick reminded him, and Greg smiled at being referred to as his 'buddy'. "Come grab some dinner with us, you have to take a break or else this place will swallow you whole" Nick told him.

"Well, okay" Greg agreed "Just let me finish…"

"Sanders!" a voice barked. Nick and Warrick scowled at the undisputable voice of Conrad Ecklie approaching. Surely enough, the older man arrived in the lab and looked at Greg "Do you have my results yet?" he asked.

"N-no sir" Greg stammered. Ecklie was the only person he'd met so far who made him so far beyond nervous it had grown into fear. "You only gave me your evidence half an hour ago and…"

"I don't care, I told you to do it first!" Ecklie retorted "I got a serial killer to track down, Sanders, and if he kills again because you were too slow with the evidence, then the next death's on you"

"Hey!" Warrick suddenly interrupted, feeling the urge to protect Greg when he saw the fear and more importantly guilt in the young man's eyes "You can't tell him something like that! What the hell is wrong with you!?"

"Yeah!" Nick chimed in, having similar feelings to his friend "Greg is only one person, you can't expect him to work fast and push everything else aside just for you!"

Ecklie looked at the pair of CSI's as if he'd just realised they were there "I should have known you two had something to do with this" he said with a glare, but Nick and Warrick just glared back. "I'll be back in an hour" he mumbled to Greg and then stormed out.

Nick and Warrick turned back to the younger man who was shaking and sniffing as he wiped his eyes. He was so young and had such a big responsibility on his shoulders, Nick and Warrick couldn't blame him for trying not to break down.

"I-I don't know if I-I can do this" Greg stammered.

"Hey, don't let him get to you. We'll help you to settle in as much as we can" Nick said as he went to rub the young man's back soothingly.

"Yeah, Ecklie is just a giant jack ass" Warrick said folding his arms and Greg give a small laugh "just don't give into his pressure, he'll realise it's not working and go away"

"Thanks you guys" Greg whispered with a small smile.

Don't mention it, Greg, now come on, let's go get something to eat" Nick said with a smile.

Greg felt a lot better now, sensing he'd already made some great new friends. He had the feeling he was going to like working in Vegas after all.

Boom!

So, as I said I know I've been doing a lot of fluffy friendship stories lately, but I've got a lot of angsty prompts to come for the next few stories, mwhaha ^_^

I hope the season premiere was good! But, obviously because I won't be seeing the new season until next year, I won't be writing stories based on it, so sorry :(

More prompts and reviews would be awesome :) xx
