31. Fruit

Words: 450

"Rasy! Rasy! What's your favourite fruit?" the hyper daughter of Hermes, who was never going to grow up thanks to her oath, asked the ex-nymph, who look at her with confused expression on her face. Thalia just groaned, because she knew well that once Cam started it was impossible to make her shut up.

"Raspberry?" Rasy asked hesitantly and Cammy sighed dramatically.

"Bad answer! 'Cause I've only found blueberry," she said importantly, as if it was a big secret. Rasy nodded just as solemnly, but Thalia turned around so Cam would leave her alone.

She wasn't so lucky – Cam never left her out.

"Thals! Thalia! Captain!" She was the Lieutenant; it was her job to keep the daughter of Hermes in control when Artemis was away.

"Yes, Cam?" she asked innocently and she was met with a grinning face.

"Is blueberry your favourite? Please, let it be!" she asked, and the Lieutenant hesitated. She looked at the small hands of Cam, which were full with the dark blue berries and her heart sank.

She remembered another time in a similar field, an afternoon which seemed to happen hundreds of years before, but wasn't even a decade ago. She was sitting next to Luke, leaning against him, and their hands were full of berries, which they have just collected from the forest.

"Which one is your favourite?" he asked.

"Blueberry," she said firmly and as fast as a lightning she took as many of the said mentioned berries out of the boy's hands as she could. He just laughed, and when she sat back, he gave all the remaining blueberries to her. "And what's yours?" she asked curiously. He didn't answer for a moment.

"Blackberry or blackcurrant, I'm not exactly sure," the son of Hermes said eventually. "I like them, because they remind of you." Thalia crossed her arms at that, and looked at the boy with a grimace on her face.

"Now that was way too cheesy for my liking," she stated and then he smirked.

"Didn't you mean berry-y? Or fruity?" he asked and she smacked him. They eventually ended laughing, and instead of eating those berries they had a berry fight.

"Maybe those are my favourites now too!" she said with a chuckle when both of them were already filthy.

"CAPTAIN!" Thalia looked up, being woken up from her thoughts, more precisely memories.

"No Cammy, my favourites are blackberry and blackcurrant," she said and the younger girl looked like she wanted to cry, as no one wanted the fruits she has collected.

Thalia looked at the delicious-looking blueberries with longing in her eyes, but she didn't ask for them, because maybe Luke was dead, but his memory wasn't.
