32. Loser
Words: 448
Thalia never liked the word 'loser'. She never even really understood its meaning, after all no one could be good at everything (not even her).
"You are really telling me that you want me to join a secret group of maidens who worship a goddess, who is actually real?" Angela, a mortal who seemed to be a potential recruit asked with wide eyes.
"Yes, that's what I told you," Thalia told her simply and the other girl started laughing. The huntress understood the mortal of course; after all she couldn't see through the Mist, she didn't believe in the existence of gods.
"That's a joke I haven't heard yet. I even find it pretty funny and creative. I guess, even the new girl knows that I'm a loser," the first part of her speech was confident enough, but by the end of her monologue she was close to crying, she choked on the word 'loser'. At that moment Thalia really hated that stupid word.
"I don't think that you are a loser, if I thought that I would never offer joining the Hunt to you," the daughter of Zeus said solemnly. "Lady Artemis told me to only make this offer to those I find that are worth of her attention." That made the mortal girl cry and the huntress wasn't sure whether she was crying because of the honour or she still didn't believe her, and she still thought that Thalia was making fun of her.
"I was solemn Angela, and this isn't an offer most get two times," she said and added to herself that she was lucky enough to be one of the few exceptions.
"So, Artemis exists?" she asked after a moment of silent, and Thalia nodded.
"If you accept my offer than you will meet her. She has to accept your pledge to become a huntress," the demigod stated and the other girl nodded slowly.
"I'm still not certain if I can trust you or not, but why me? Why a loser?" Angela questioned the daughter of Zeus, who looked uncomfortable, she was not the type to help others self-esteem.
"Loser? Stupid word. I'm sure that you are good in countless things. Mainly, because you don't seem happy here, and that's what the Hunt is for, providing sisters, a family, a life for those who need it," Thalia concluded and she gained a watery smile.
"You are right, I'm not happy here, and I don't want to be the loser anymore," Angela said, and Thalia nodded.
"Then join us, leave behind those who don't realize your value," the demigod suggested. When Angela smiled sweetly at her the huntress really didn't understand that stupid word.
