Help

Greg had been having a very normal night so far. He'd arrived at work, got his coffee, been given a case, and headed down to be greeted by a lazy cop and the overpowering smell of a rotting corpse; same old, same old. However, being a CSI in Las Vegas ,Greg knew things weren't going to stay normal for long.

And as if right on cue, as Greg was knelt over the victim's body, a sharp silver blade was placed at the CSI's throat and he had to frantically remind himself to stay calm if he didn't want to get cut.

"Stand up" the voice of a man demanded, and Greg steadily rose to his feet.

"What do you want?" Greg asked coolly, although he could feel the blade beginning to dig a little into his skin.

"I need you to do me a favour" the stranger seethed. "Two weeks ago you CSIs collected some evidence which could incriminate me for armed robbery, you know the one. Now obviously, you haven't caught me yet, but to stop that from ever happening, I want you to steal the evidence for me"

Greg scoffed in disbelief "And why the hell would I do that?"

"Because if you don't…." the man pressed the knife edge a little more into Greg's throat and the CSI winced "I will kill you" the man whispered maliciously into Greg's ear.

"I won't betray a case like that…or my friends" Greg said firmly.

He was scared, but he wasn't going to let that bastard know, that's what the guy wanted. Greg would never drop his integrity just to comply to the demands of some lunatic.

"Oh, we'll see about that…" the man pulled Greg closer towards him and the CSI hissed through his teeth "I'll be watching you" he said with a smirk, and then threw Greg forward onto the ground, cutting the CSI as he did so.

Greg stayed crumpled on the floor in a daze. He reached a hand up to his left cheek, and felt the blood oozing from a long cut. As the CSI looked at the red substance coating his fingers, he knew that man was serious, and he knew that he could be in severe danger.

Greg returned back to the crime lab after finishing off at the scene. He was shaken, but managed to carry on as best he could; if he didn't get the work done then the others would know something was wrong. The cut on his cheek had finally stopped bleeding, and as he drove back to the lab he'd been trying to come up with some lame excuse as to how he got it.

He was debating whether or not he should just tell the other's he'd been threatened, but the last thing the man had said to him stuck in his mind. I'll be watching… what if he's watching me right now? Greg pondered as he frantically scanned the halls. In the past, Greg would tell himself he was being paranoid, but after what happened with Nick and Nigel Crane the CSI knew he couldn't be too careful.

Greg walked into the light room with his evidence, not really paying attention, when he realised Nick and Sara were already in there working a case.

"Oh, sorry" Greg smiled "I'll go somewhere else…"

"Greg, wait a second!" Sara called him back. Greg pretended he didn't hear, but then Sara pulled him back around "How'd you get that cut?" she asked concernedly.

"Did something happen at your scene?" Nick asked, he sounded annoyed. He didn't like the thought of Greg not being protected properly by the cops.

"Oh yeah, old lady got a bit crazy and scratched at me" Greg said with shrug of dismissal.

"Greg that's not a scratch, that looks like a knife wound" Sara said, placing a hand delicately on the side of Greg's face to take a better look.

"G, what's going on?" Nick asked suspiciously.

"Nothing, everything's fine!" Greg insisted, and laughed a little to make it seem like they were just overreacting "I can handle it, I promise" he said with a small smile and then left the room.

Sara turned to Nick "Something's not right" she said.

"I know" Nick said with a worried frown "And we better figure out what, fast"

Greg was walking up to his apartment after finishing work. He wasn't a hundred per cent sure why he hadn't just told Nick and Sara what had happened, but he supposed it was because he wanted to protect them. This psycho had already threatened Greg if he didn't comply, what if he went after his friends too? Greg wasn't willing to take that risk, and knew this was something he'd have to deal with alone.

As he reached his apartment, Greg was disturbed to find the door already ajar. Cautiously, the CSI edged forward and slowly pushed the door, his other fist clenched ready to use in an attack. Greg scanned the lounge; nothing seemed out of place. He cleared the kitchen too and then headed to his bedroom. The CSI was horrified when he entered to find the words; I can see you written across the wall in red.

Greg panicked a little. He couldn't believe it; he wasn't even safe in his own home now. The CSI grabbed a bag and packed some essentials before running from the apartment. He couldn't deal with this right now; he'd stay in a hotel for the night and figure something out in the morning. As Greg jumped back into his car, he didn't notice the cold pair of eyes watching him from afar.

Greg woke up in his hotel room the next day to the sound of his phone buzzing on the night stand. He hadn't managed to get much sleep early on after thinking about what he'd found, and as a result he'd slept until late. Realising it was probably one of his colleagues asking why he wasn't at work yet; Greg answered the phone whilst pulling some clothes out of the bag.

"Hello?"

"G, where are you?" Nick responded "I called your home phone but you didn't pick up"

"I'm not there" Greg said placing the phone on speaker so he could dressed at the same time "I'm erm…I'm in a hotel"

"Why?...You're not with a girl are you?" Nick asked. Greg could just imagine the smirk on his face.

"No...There was erm…" Greg had to think quickly "A gas leak in my apartment, I needed somewhere to stay for the night"

"Dude, why didn't you call me? You could have crashed at my place instead of paying for a hotel" Nick told him.

Greg bit his lip, he couldn't tell Nick it was because he was scared about putting his life in danger too; the poor guy had already been through all this with Crane.

"It was late, I didn't wanna bother you" Greg said grabbing his car keys "Anyway, I'm heading down to the lab now."

"Don't bother, Cath's already put you at a scene with me and Sara. I'll send the address"

"Alright, see you in a bit" Greg replied and hung up with a sigh. He hated lying to his friends.

Greg arrived at the scene to find Nick and Sara already inside the house with the bodies of a dead husband and wife.

"Hey, you think you'll be able to go home tonight?" Sara asked.

Greg frowned at her "What?"

Sara raised a questioning eyebrow "Nick said you had to move out for the night"

"Oh…oh yeah!" Greg said placing his kit down "It erm…it depends" Depends if I can catch this stalker…or if he catch's me…

After that, the CSIs worked in near silence as they were focused on the evidence. Greg stood up to stretch his legs after being knelt on the floor for so long, and in doing so he glanced out the window. He felt his body grow tense and his eyes grow wide when he spotted a man staring at him from across the street, all dressed in black with shades covering his eyes.

"I'll be right back" Greg said quietly to Sara and then left before she could say anything.

Approaching the man, Greg found himself growing more angry than scared; this bastard had driven him from his own home after all.

"CSI Sanders" the man smiled "Got that evidence for me yet?"

"Leave me alone!" Greg yelled in response "I will never comply with your ridiculous demands, and your threats are false"

The man chuckled "Ah, you keep telling yourself that, kid. See, I actually came here to give you a little encouragement" he smirked, and before Greg even knew what was happening, the man's fist contacted with his jaw, knocking the young man to the ground, and then Greg felt the bastards fists on his skin over and over again.

"Hey!" an angry voice Greg recognised to be Nick's yelled. Greg turned to see the Texan and Sara running towards him.

The attacker stopped his assault and ran off down a nearby alley. Nick went after him and Sara knelt down to help Greg.

"Are you okay?!" she asked concernedly. Greg's nose was bleeding and he had a black eye coming on. "Do you wanna go to the hospital?"

"No, I'm fine" Greg insisted, getting up off the ground.

"Who the hell was that?!" Sara asked.

"I…he wanted some money" Greg replied and started to walk away before she could ask any more questions.

After finishing at the scene and cleaning Greg up, the three CSIs headed to a nearby diner for something to eat. Nick was pissed that the man who'd attacked Greg had managed to escape, but the younger CSI tried to encourage him to forget about it, and what's done is done.

The three friends were sat eating, when Greg looked out the window once more to see the man yet again stood across the street looking at him. Sara noticed Greg going a little tense and pale as he stopped eating. Frowning, she looked out the window and spotted the man too.

"Greg…that guy's not just a mugger, is he?" She asked tentatively, and Greg shook his head. By this point Nick had seen the man too. "He's been following you, hasn't he?" Greg nodded discretely.

"How long?" Nick asked with a growl "How long has that bastard been stalking you!?" He knew that fear all too well and didn't like the idea of Greg experiencing it too.

"Only since yesterday…" Greg said quietly, and went on to tell them the whole story.

By the time the young man had finished explaining, Nick's hands were physically shaking from rage. Without warning, the Texan sprung from his seat and headed outside, Greg and Sara quickly following him. Nick approached the man who didn't even try to run this time, he was just smiling gleefully. Nick went and punched him in his smug face, sending him to the ground.

"You ever come near Greg again; I swear to God I'll break every bone in your pathetic body!" Nick snarled "You're under arrest you son of a bitch"

"It was worth it, it was worth it just to see him squirm" the man smiled. This earned him another punch from Nick, and Sara put her arm around Greg supportively.

"Greg, if someone threatens you, you have to tell us" Sara said as they watched Nick put the man in the back of his truck "We couldn't bear it if something happened to you"

"I know" Greg said, he realised that now "I'm sorry, I was just scared…no more secrets from now on though, I promise"

"Good" Sara said squeezing his shoulder. "Best to let him face Nick's wrath anyway" she smiled, and they both laughed.
