A/N: Hey guys! Thank you so much for the reviews and reading the last story, I hope you're still enjoying :) This story is for Cirinde Palantir who asked that Nick take Greg for a walk so they could talk about Morgan. There are minor spoilers from various episodes concerning Greg's love life ;)
Summary – Greg can't muster up the courage to ask Morgan out, so Nick takes the younger man on a walk to give him some advice. Morganders!
Take a Walk
Nick and Greg were working on the light table, when Morgan walked in with a box of her own evidence.
"Hey, guys!" the blonde CSI said brightly.
"Evening, Morgan" Nick said with a smile.
Greg gave her a small smile too, but he didn't say anything. Nick rolled his eyes; he'd never known the younger man to be as shy as when Morgan was around. Nick knew Greg really wanted to be with Morgan; it was glaringly obvious, and too the Texan, it seemed obvious Morgan liked Greg back; but that didn't appear apparent to the younger man himself.
Morgan went about unpacking her evidence, and whilst she was distracted, Nick gave Greg's shoulder a quick nudge. The younger man looked up at him startled, but Nick just nodded his head towards Morgan and gave Greg a look which said 'Go on'. Greg looked at him nervously, but Nick just widened his eyes and motioned again.
"What are you guys doing that I'm not in on?" Morgan asked teasingly as she noticed it the second time.
"Oh, Greg just wanted to ask you something" Nick said with a smile and turned to the younger man who was giving him a rather annoyed look.
"What's up, Greg?" Morgan asked.
Greg looked at her, and for a few moments his mouth moved but no words came out "I was erm, I was wondering if…" he managed to stutter. God damn it I hate you, Nick! He thought as he looked at Morgan patiently waiting and smiling sweetly at him "…if you'd…like some coffee" he chickened out with a wobbly smile and Nick just shook his head a little.
"Oh, sure, I'd love some" Morgan said with a lopsided smile, although Nick was the only one who seemed to pick up on the slight disappointment in her tone and the sadness in her eyes.
"Right, I'll go get some" Greg said, blushing as he looked down at the floor and walked from the room.
Nick rolled his eyes "I'll be right back" he said, and left before Morgan could ask any questions.
"G!" he called after the younger man, Greg turned to look at him "What the hell was that?"
"You shouldn't have tried to push me, Nick!" Greg said, sounding really upset "Morgan's never going to like me back, so what's the point…" he hung his head .
Nick sighed "That's it, next break we have, we're taking a walk"
"A walk?" Greg repeated, giving him a confused look.
"Yes, a walk. You seriously need to do something about this Morgan thing. I mean that was just excruciating to watch" Nick said plainly.
Greg rolled his eyes "And how exactly is going on a walk going to help me?"
"It'll give you time to think, clear your mind, talks things through with me" Nick explained "It'll do you good, I promise."
Greg sighed; he supposed he didn't have a lot to lose. "Fine" he conceded "Let's take a walk."
"So, remind me again why I should be taking relationship advice from my single friend, whose longest relationship has been with his dog?" Greg asked once he and Nick started heading away from the lab.
"Okay, first of all, that was cold" Nick said defensively, and Greg looked at him in a somewhat apologetic away. "Secondly, it doesn't matter how long my relationships have lasted, the point is I had them in the first place"
"Yeah but dude you gotta admit, neither one of us has exactly been lucky in love before." Greg said with a blunt look "I mean, I've never even been in love…have you?"
"Well…I don't know" Nick said regrettably, knowing it wasn't helping his case. "And what do you mean you've never been in love before!? Remember when I walked in on you talking to that girl on the phone years ago, and you were arguing over who loved who more?"
Greg scoffed "We were just kidding around, none of that cutesy stuff is real…besides, Morgan doesn't strike me as the cutesy type, she so…feisty and…wow…" he drifted off.
Nick snapped his finger in front of the younger man's face "G, focus!" he said loudly "Welcome back to Earth" he said when Greg shook his head to regain concentration. "See, that's love, man. You hear Morgan's name, you go off to another dimension thinking about her"
"I know but…I think about how much I want her and it drives me crazy!" Greg exclaimed "Morgan drives me crazy…. I was nuts before, man, but this is just ridiculous."
"Well, then do something stupid for her" Nick shrugged, and Greg gave him an incredulous look "What? Girls love when a guy is willing to make a fool of himself just for her, especially if it makes her laugh" he said knowingly "You've done crazy things for a girl before…like when I caught you checking out that chicks epitheliums"
"Yeah, but she didn't know about that" Greg said scrunching up his nose "Besides, that's embarrassing to think about, it was so creepy of me…although, I wonder what Morgan's looks like…"
"Probably similar to Ecklie's" Nick teased.
Greg pulled a disgusted face "Way to ruin it, dude!"
Nick laughed and things fell silent for a few minutes as they neared the park "So, how does Morgan make you feel?" he asked "When you see her, what goes through your mind?"
"I just want to hold her" Greg said, his voice slightly like he was day dreaming again "she makes my heart beat a mile a minute, and I just want to look at her eyes and see her smile"
"Okay, now you're making me feel kinda sick" Nick jibed and Greg nudged his shoulder. "Well it's pretty obvious how you feel about her just from that description, so why are you having such a problem with trying to ask her out?"
Greg sighed "Did you know…did you know that I asked Sara out once?"
The look of shock on Nick's face was enough to say no "Seriously!? When?"
"Oh, it was years ago, way before we knew she liked Grissom" Greg stressed. "I don't think she actually realised it was a date though…she kinda blew me off…anyway, that hurt me a lot and I promised myself I wouldn't fall for co-workers again. Luckily nothing happened between me and Sara so we could easily stay friends…but if I were to ask Morgan out, and we broke up, I don't think I could handle not having her in my life anymore. She's an amazing friend and I couldn't bear to lose her like that"
Nick put a comforting hand on his shoulder "What evidence is there to suggest anything will go wrong? I mean if it's Ecklie you're worried about leave it to me, I'll sort him out."
Greg smiled at him "Thanks, but, that's not the real problem. I just…Morgan's way out of my league, right? I mean she could have so much better…why should she settle for me?" he said sadly.
"Hey, now you stop right there" Nick said, ceasing the walking and forcing Greg to look at him "You're a good guy, G, more than that. You take care of your friends, your family, you make us all laugh and smile when we're down, you're smart…even though you may not act it sometimes…" Greg smiled and looked down "and Morgan sees that in you, I know she does, I just know she feels the same way as you feel about her"
Greg gave Nick a small smile "Thanks…and I hope you're right. Although I have every right to be nervous, bearing in mind the last time I asked a girl out, she did sort of try to kill me"
Nick chuckled "Aah yes, the beautiful Mrs Whitebridge. See, I warned you she was trouble! I was right then, and who's to say I'm not right now?"
Greg smirked "I guess so….although you were the one who encouraged me to get her number in the first place…"Nick shrugged an awkward apology "And, like I'm the first guy to fall for a stripper…burlesque dancer…do I have to remind you of a certain Miss Kristy?" he asked raising an eyebrow.
Nick rolled his eyes "Yeah, and look how that ended up. That was a mistake I almost paid for with a life time in prison…"
"But no so, all thanks to moi!" Greg grinned proudly "And ya know, maybe Catherine helped a little…"
Nick gave him a lopsided smile and then sighed "Yeah, I guess we really know how to pick 'em….and it's about time one of us picked the right one…and I think that one for you is Morgan"
Greg smiled at him "Well, thanks for the advice and for helping me try to think straight. I guess my love life has been so disastrous thus far…I'm scared I'll be stuck in the same hole all my life, but Morgan…I think she could be the one to dig me out. I…I love her…I've never felt this way about anyone."
"Well then, what are you waiting for?" Nick asked "Morgan will be back at the lab right now, probably just waiting for you to make a move"
"I hope so…as soon as we get back to the lab, I'll ask her out" Greg said firmly. After talking with Nick, he felt a lot more confident.
"Good" Nick said with a smile, clapping him on the back "I'm proud of you. Now, let's go get your girl…"
Greg and Nick returned back to the lab, and Nick went off to his office after wishing Greg good luck. The younger CSI once again thanked his friend for the advice, and taking a walk had definitely been a good idea; he was feeling a lot better about the whole situation now.
Greg found Morgan in the break room, looking at some crime scene photos. She heard the male CSI approaching and turned to look at him with a small smile, Greg smiled back.
"Hey, I was wondering if I could ask you something" Greg said sitting down beside her.
Morgan gave him a lopsided smile "I already have coffee, thanks" she teased.
Greg laughed lightly "No it's something else actually…" he turned to face her fully, and Morgan seemed to get a little nervous; this looked serious. "Morgan, I've wanted to ask you out for a long time now, but I've always backed down because I was worried we'd break up or that I wasn't good enough for you…"
"Greg, you are an amazing person" Morgan said despite herself "You're everything I've ever wanted in a guy. When I said all those things to you about being a total catch after Alison died…I wasn't just saying it to make you feel better. It was because it's true."
Greg blushed a little "Erm…thank you" he said quietly "I think that you're really amazing too. You're smart, gorgeous, funny…and I want more than just to be friends with you now"
Morgan smiled at him softly "I thought you'd never ask" she said.
"So, is that a yes?" Greg questioned hopefully "You'll go out with me?"
Morgan placed her hand on Greg's, the smile still domineering her features, and the sparkle in her eyes making Greg's heart feel like he was at a rave.
"Yes" the female CSI said happily "Yes, I will go out with you"
"That's…that's, great" Greg said with a relieved smile.
"You're too cute" Morgan said pulling the male CSI towards her and pushing their lips passionately together. Greg couldn't believe he'd waited so long for something which felt so amazing. They eventually pulled away "So, what do you have planned for our first date?" Morgan asked excitedly.
"I was thinking something simple…" Greg said with a smile "…you wanna take walk?"
Morgan smiled back "That sounds perfect"
Hehe this was quite fun to write, I like writing these sort of friendship pieces for Nick and Greg, and of course, I love Morganders ;) The whole time I was working on this story I had the song 'Take a Walk' by Passion Pit in my head, you should check it out XD Anyway, hope you enjoyed!
