A/N: Hey guys! Thanks for all the reviews, makes me very happy :) This story is for cupcake01 who suggested Greg get trapped somewhere with Nick or Morgan, but I thought, well why not both XD There's no real Morganders in this one, just NickMorganGreg friendship. Hope you enjoy!
Summary – An explosion at a crime scene traps Nick, Greg and Morgan in the basement. Can the CSIs survive?
Trapped
Nick and Morgan were processing the body in the basement of the old house, whilst Greg was upstairs searching the rest of it. He was working his way through room by room, and was currently probing the kitchen.
Greg wasn't sure if his hearing was failing him, but he could have sworn there was a dull ticking noise distracting him from his work. The CSI looked up at the clock with a frown; it had stopped, and therefore couldn't be the source. It sounded more like it was coming from the oven; but again, it didn't seem to be turned on.
Greg cautiously made his way over to the oven, and placed a slightly trembling hand on the cover; he was scared about what he might find…he knew exactly what it sounded like, and he didn't think he could go through that again. When the CSI pulled the door open, his eyes grew wide and he took in a sharp breath as his heart sunk. It was exactly what he feared to discover. A bomb. And there was only 30 seconds until detonation.
"Nick, Morgan!" Greg yelled as he ran for the basement door "Get out! There's a…." but he was cut short.
Just as Greg reached the top of the basement stairs, the bomb erupted with an ear-splitting bang. The blast threw Greg forward and he plummeted down the steps before hitting the ground hard. The last thing he heard was Morgan screaming, he felt something crash into his back, and then everything went black.
Nick had been stood photographing the body, whilst Morgan was taking some blood swabs. They were chatting idly about a baseball game they'd watched last night when they heard Greg shouting. Both CSIs looked at each other with a confused frown, neither of them really understanding what Greg was saying.
Then the bomb exploded, and Nick and Morgan were knocked to the ground. They both watched helplessly as Greg came tumbling down, and Morgan screamed in fear; Greg was so limp she was sure he was dead. Then the ceiling of old basement began to crack. Without a second thought, Nick flung himself over Morgan to shield her from the large falling chunks of debris.
Morgan couldn't see anything with Nick's body over her and the dust billowing around. After a few terrifying moments of silence, Morgan shakily sat up, but she was too scared to look. Nick was no longer covering her, and she turned to find him lying beside her with a huge gash across his left temple, blood spilling down the side of his head; he appeared to be unconscious.
Morgan looked over to Greg to see him being incapacitated by a large piece of fallen ceiling laid across his back. His head was bleeding too, but his face was turned away so Morgan couldn't be sure if he was conscious or not; or even if he was alive…She moved to Nick and placed her fingers on his neck, relieved to find a pulse.
"Nick" Morgan said quietly, she was shaking from fear and coughing from the fallen dust "Nick, wake up!" the blonde begged as she grabbed the older man's shoulders and started shaking him "Please, please wake up" she said quietly with tears in her eyes.
Suddenly, Nick started coughing violently as he rolled onto his side. Morgan let out a sigh of relief and helped the older CSI sit up. Nick sat rubbing the back of his head for a moment, dazed by what had happened, but then it all came rushing back to him like one horrible nightmare.
"Are you okay?" he asked Morgan. At first glance the blond appeared to have sustained a few cuts and bruises, but nothing seemed serious.
"Yeah I'm fine" Morgan reassured him "All thanks to you" she said with a small smile.
"Don't mention it" Nick replied; he'd do anything for his younger siblings, speaking of which… "Where's Greg?" he asked worriedly.
"O-over there" Morgan said shakily as she turned around; she was almost too scared to go and check on him.
"C'mon, we gotta help him" Nick said, pushing his own injuries aside.
The two CSIs started to step over the debris, and flinching every time they heard a groan eliciting from the crumbling structure of the house. Morgan kept a hand on Nick's back as he wasn't too steady on his feet, but the Texan was determined to stay strong for Greg and Morgan's sakes.
When the CSIs finally reached Greg, Morgan immediately went to check his pulse and Nick set about trying to move the ceiling slab.
"H-he's breathing" Morgan said "B-but it's not that strong"
"Alright, just hang on, G" Nick said before trying to move the debris, but the hit to the head had considerably weakened him. He let out a growl of frustration when it barely budged.
"I'll help" Morgan said, giving Greg's hand a reassuring squeeze, before taking hold of the debris herself.
"I'll push, you pull" Nick instructed, and Morgan nodded before bracing herself, and they began to slowly but surely remove the debris.
The CSIs finally managed to set Greg free, and Morgan instantly started to try and wake him up whilst Nick looked around for a way out. It was scary enough seeing Greg so hurt and having to keep Morgan safe, but seeing that the doorway out of the basement was blocked by what looked like layers and layers of debris only made Nick's fear worsen. They were trapped.
"Greg, Greg can you hear me?" Morgan pleaded. Never had she wanted to experience having to revive two of her unconscious friends.
"M…Morgan" it was barely audible, but it was there, and Greg's eyes began to flicker open.
"Your voice must work wonders" Nick said to Morgan, and she gave him a small smile.
"What…Ow" Greg moaned in pain as he tried to sit up "My back..." he said through gritted teeth; it felt just like the lab explosion all over again.
"Alright, try not to move" Morgan soothed as she ran a hand through his hair, and Greg just stayed pressed against the floor, breathing heavily.
"There's no damn signal down here" Nick said in frustration as he put his phone away "We could be stuck here until back up arrives"
"I'm sure someone will have seen the explosion and called for help" Morgan tried to remain optimistic, but they were all scared.
"Are you guys okay?" Greg asked, and Morgan nodded as Nick sat down beside them. "What happened to your head?" he asked the Texan worriedly.
"Oh, it's nothing" Nick said, not wanting to put his friend under any more stress.
"You would say that" Morgan teased and Nick gave her a small smile "You might be concussed, just stay awake, alright?"
"Good thing we've got you here, Morgan" Greg said with a smirk "Or else we'd be freaking out big time"
"Speak for yourself" Nick teased.
A somewhat scared silence fell between them, none of them sure what to do. Nick supposed he could try moving the blockage, but one false move and the whole rickety building could come crashing down. Morgan was just concerned about getting both male CSIs medical attention before either of them lost consciousness again; and Greg seemed to be on the verge of it.
Suddenly, the building let out another long and wailing groan, before dust began to fall around them, and the CSIs knew some more ceiling was about to fall. Nick pulled both the younger CSIs protectively into his chest, just in time before the rock started to crumble. Morgan gripped onto Greg too and Greg held Nick's head down so no more harm would come to it.
Thankfully, no extremely large pieces of debris feel that time; Nick took the majority of the hit, but there wasn't much futher damage. The CSIs stayed in their tight cocoon for a few minutes longer, wanting to make sure it was definitely over, and wanting to remain in the comfort that they weren't alone in the terrifying situation, but wishing they would get out soon, together and safe.
"You guys alright?" Nick asked as sat back again; Greg and Morgan both gave a shaky nod.
"How about you?" Greg asked.
"Fine" Nick said, although he placed a hand to his forehead and he looked very pail.
"Here" Morgan said, ripping the sleeve off her blouse and beginning to put some pressure on the cut. Nick hissed in pain and Greg took hold of his hand in comfort. "We'll be out soon, I promise" Morgan told him. "I'm sorry you guys got so hurt, I feel so useless"
"Don't be sorry" Greg said firmly "We want you to be safe"
"Yeah" Nick agreed "besides, you're taking good care of us now" he added with a small smile.
"Well, you guys are doing really good" Morgan reassured them.
About ten minutes passed, and Greg remained gripping Nick's hand whilst Morgan tended to the wounds. They all waited anxiously for help to come, not daring to even think how long they might be trapped there.
All 3 CSIs could have cried with joy as they soon heard the voices of the rescue team calling for them about 20 minutes later. Morgan called back and they waited rather impatiently for the rescuers to make a big enough gap to get them out. Despite the guys' protests, Morgan insisted they get out first since they needed the most medical help.
Once safely outside, Morgan watched helplessly as the ambulances took Nick and Greg away, whilst she remained getting her cuts cleaned by another medic. Russell and Sara had also arrived to take care of the scene. Russell wanted Morgan to go home, but she insisted on going to the hospital. She'd been trapped with Greg and Nick whilst they had been trying to protect her; the least she could do was be there for them when they woke up.
Nick was the first to come around after having his head stitched up, and he smiled at Morgan who was sat holding his hand comfortingly. Some of the discs in Greg's back had slipped out of place which had been causing him pain; the doctors were still in the process of putting them back.
"You could never say we lead boring lives could you?" Nick said, and Morgan nodded and smiled in agreement.
"Thank you for protecting Greg and I like you did" Morgan said "But you shouldn't feel the need to…"
"Morgan, you and Greg are like my little brother and sister, of course I'm going to look out for you" Nick said with a smile and Morgan smiled back, squeezing his hand in thanks.
Eventually, Greg was wheeled into the room too. The doctor explained everything had gone fine and he should wake up in an hour or so. When he eventually did, Greg was relieved to see Nick and Morgan by his side, and they both seemed okay.
"Not many friends get to experience something like that together you know" Greg smirked.
"Yeah, they don't know what they're missing" Nick said sarcastically.
"Occupational hazard" Morgan shrugged and the male CSIs laughed.
"We all made it out together" Greg said "And that's the important thing"
"Aww are you going all sappy on us?" Morgan teased as she went to sit on Greg's bedside and put an arm around his shoulders.
"I'm sure he'd happily have been trapped with you for a while, Morgan" Nick smirked "I was just the third wheel"
"Alright, alright, stop picking on me!" Greg moaned "I've just been through a very painful procedure" he pouted and Nick and Morgan laughed at his attempt for sympathy.
The three friends remained poking fun at each other until eventually Nick and Greg's medication made them drowsy, and Morgan didn't really want to leave so she stayed a sleep at Greg's side; the three CSIs weren't ready to be apart just yet.
I have to say I actually liked writing the interactions with Nick and Morgan in this one because I don't feel they talk much, but of course, Greg makes everything better ;)
More prompts please, I love them!
Please Review :) xx
