Hi! This is my first fanfic, so please bear with me! There will be no adult content in this story, and the same applies to all other stories that I write. I promise it gets better along the way! Also, I would like to ask that if you review (which it would be awesome and greatly appreciated if you did!) not to use swear words. So thanks, enjoy!

Chapter One

My name is Nicole Dallas. I'm 17 years old, and a senior in high school. Pretty, but not super model gorgeous. Perfectly normal. Nothing exciting here.

I'm a big fan of The Legend Of Zelda. I have been ever since I was 9 years old and first got my hands on a Nintendo 64 and Ocarina Of Time. I'm kind of obsessed with the series. And I will admit, after all the years of watching Link fearlessly fight off monsters and save Hyrule so many times, I began to wish he was a real person, and that he would come and save me from my slightly boring, monotonous life.

It's a gray, depressing day in December. I've just had the most "wonderful" day at school, with me going to the wrong lunch after a mix up with my class schedule, someone spilling their soup all over me, and tripping in front of a boy I like. Then to top it all off with a cherry, I mildly sprained my ankle in P.E. and had to come home early, missing my Math test.

So, in short, today kind of extra sucked.

I'm sitting on my bed, reading the new book I got from the library, when I hear a knock on my door.

"Come in," I say loudly.

My mom and dad walk in with sympathetic smiles on their faces.

"Hi sweetie," Mom says while sitting down on my bed. "How are you feeling?"

I shrug. "Okay. It would've been better if I could've avoided the soup incident though."

Dad sits down too. "Well kiddo, I'm sorry you had such a messed up day. But on the bright side that ankle should feel better by next week."

I make a face at my ankle. "I hate P.E. You're sure I can't transfer out of it?"

"I'm sure." My dad says. "Say, would a birthday present make it better?"

I look at them both, confused. "But my birthday isn't for another month."

Mom smiles. "I know. But you might as well get a head start on Jason."

Jason is one of my slightly geeky but lovable friends at school. We're both equally obsessed with Zelda, which is what sparked our friendship. We have a competition when a new Zelda game comes out to see who can finish it the fastest. He beat me on Wind Waker and Spirit Tracks, but I destroyed him at Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword.

My eyebrows raise. "Jason? Where did he come into this? Why would I need to get a head..." I trail off. "No way! Does that mean what it think it does?"

Dad smiles. He gets up and opens my closet door. He then reaches into the pocket of the bright pink sweater with a bunny on the front Aunt Lucia made for me three years ago. As much as I love her, I just can't bring myself to wear it publicly. It's kind of hideous. He pulls out a thin rectangular object wrapped in turquoise paper. My favorite color.

I laugh. "You hid it in my closet?"

Mom shrugs "Would you have looked there?"

"Probably not," I laugh again.

Dad hands the gift to me, even though I pretty much know what it is. "Happy birthday, kiddo."

I smile and take the package, unwrap it, and there it is: The Legend Of Zelda: Dark Castle. I smile. I've been waiting for this game for what feels like forever.

I hug both of my parents tightly. "Thank you both so much! I love you guys."

Mom smiles. "We love you too. Now aren't you going to go and start playing it?"

I glance back at the pile of homework I've been neglecting and huff in annoyance. Stupid homework. "Yeah, I will, in a minute."

~X~

"No way, you already have it?" Jason exclaims the next day at lunch. "It just came out, like, two days ago. I haven't even gotten to the store yet!"

"Now that surprises me, I would've thought you'd be the first in line at Game Stop to get it." We walk (well, he walks I limp) over to a table and sit down.

"If it wasn't for my stupid job then yeah, I would have."

Today's main entrée is a mash of brown gunk they call meatloaf. I try to ignore it and eat the mashed potatoes instead. At least it's not soup.

"So, have you started it yet?" He blows a lock of brown hair out of his eyes.

I sigh. "Nope. Homework."

"Gross."

"I know, right."

"Howdy all," Corri sits down on the other side of Jason, all curly red hair and bright green eyes. She picks a strawberry off my plate. "How's your ankle holding up?"

"I'll survive," I reply, taking a handful of goldfish crackers from her. She brings home lunch, smart girl.

"Hey Jase," She gives him a flirty smile.

"H-hey Corri," He smiles back, running a hand through his hair.

I smile too. Everyone in school knows they like each other. Jason has been trying to actually ask her out for the past four months. I think he's scared because Corri's a little more forward than him and the fact that she actually likes him back. I elbow him in the ribs when she turns to say hi to a friend.

"Ow! Jeez, what was that for?"

"Now's a good time."

"Good time for what?"

"You know what! Ask her out."

His brown eyes widen. "Uh, no, I mean, she's probably busy and stuff and I don't want to put her in an awkward situation–"

"Jase, if you don't ask her out right now I'm going to pour my mashed potatoes down your back."

"No you wouldn't."

"Just ask her!"

"Ask me what?" Corri says, turning back to us.

"Uhhmm..." Jason, ever the articulate.

I elbow him again.

"Ow! Again! Ok, uh, hey Corri, would you, I mean are you, uh, would you want to, uhm–"

"I'm free Friday night. Six thirty sound good? I heard that new zombie movie is great, we could see that." She smiles.

He blinks. "Yeah, sounds great. I'll pick you up?"

"Fantabulous."

I pat him on the back. "See, that wasn't so bad. I'm proud of you. Just think, my two best friends dating. You guys grew up so fast." I wipe non-existent tears from my eyes.

"Speaking of dating," Corri says. "I heard Kaden Conners has a thing for you. He's pretty cute. Want me to tell him to ask you out?"

I roll my eyes. "Kaden Conners does not have a thing for me,"

"He so totally does!"

"Even if he did, he's not my type."

She lets out and exaggerated sigh. "No one is your type. I'm starting to think you don't even have a type, except for weird elf looking video game characters." I stick my tongue out at her.

"Hey, don't go dissing on Link, he rocks." Jason says, shoveling some maccaroni and cheese into his mouth.

She sighs again. "Whatever. But trust me, one day I'm gonna find you the perfect guy. You've officially made it my mission in life."

"Oh, fantastic."

Jason bumps my shoulder. "We need to play Zelda sometime this week. Just not Friday."

I laugh. "Yeah, if I can get my homework done. I hate midterms."

"Everyone does," We clink milk cartons and continue eating.
