Summary – Morgan is hurt when she realises Greg doesn't want to kiss her under the mistletoe. Will Greg confess as to why? Morganders!
Why Won't You Kiss Me?
Christmas time at the lab was not generally a cheery one. Working cases were families had been broken apart and loved ones were lost at this time of year was always the hardest, and so it was often hard to get into the Christmas spirit. However, some of the Lab Rats had decided they were sick of it being all doom and gloom all of the time, so they'd put up fancy decorations around the lab, including a tree, tinsel, and some mistletoe over the break room door.
Morgan and Greg were walking towards the break room together one night, when Morgan noticed the specifically placed mistletoe. The blonde smiled and bit her bottom lip excitedly; this could be her chance. She turned and placed a hand on Greg's chest so he had to stop walking, and he looked at her perplexed.
"What's up?" he asked; Morgan was wondering if he was pretending, or whether he really was that oblivious.
"Up there" Morgan said pointing and smiled at Greg.
The male CSI looked up too, but when he looked back at Morgan he seemed almost shocked. Morgan frowned; did Greg have some weird problem with kissing her? Was he not attracted to her at all? Morgan could have sworn Greg enjoyed their flirting together, and all the signs seemed to point to him liking Morgan too. Deciding she was just being paranoid, Morgan leaned in for the kiss, but Greg ducked to the side.
"Oh, it's Russell" he said nervously as he pulled out his phone "I better take this…" he said seriously and walked away.
"But I didn't hear it…" Morgan started, but sighed in frustration when she saw it was no use. Why would Greg be so desperate as to lie, just to get out of kissing her?
Feeling very disheartened, Morgan trudged into the break room with a sad frown and picked up her coffee rather callously. Maybe Greg's phone was on vibrate or something… she thought in justification, rather for Greg than for herself. Morgan didn't at all believe Greg was like those jerks she used to date who just blew her off whenever they got bored. Morgan trusted Greg would tell her if he had a problem with her. But still, Morgan couldn't help but feel a little hurt. She'd brush it off as nothing for now, and maybe try again later…
Later on in the evening and Morgan was heading to DNA when she spotted Greg and Finn stood in the break room doorway. They laughed about something and then Finn went to give the younger CSI a quick peck on the lips as they were beneath the mistletoe. Greg didn't make up some excuse like he did with Morgan, just smiled and accepted the gesture duly.
Morgan frowned; does Greg have a thing for Finn?! She wondered as she watched the pair go their separate ways; it would explain why he wouldn't want to kiss another woman. No, can't be, Finn's more of a big sister to him…the blonde pondered as she continued walking. I don't understand why Greg would reject me…unless he secretly hates me or something…
The thought saddened Morgan deeply as she started to wrack her brains for anything she could have done to piss Greg off, but Morgan thought she'd always been civil with Greg, and he did seem to care about her a lot – being very protective at times, or giving out hugs and words of wisdom when Morgan was upset. Did he do all that just because he pitied me?
Morgan could feel the tears building in her eyes. She really, really liked Greg, and she thought he liked her too. Morgan had thought that maybe, just maybe, they had a future together…but no, he wasn't even willing to kiss her under some stupid mistletoe. The CSI managed to hold her upset back though, once again telling herself she was probably getting worked up over nothing.
"Are you okay?" Henry asked when Morgan came to collect her results; she seemed very distant.
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine, just a little tried" Morgan said plastering on a smile "I think I'm due my next cup of coffee though"
"Same here" Henry replied disgruntledly as he looked at all the evidence he still had to process "I'll come with you" he said to Morgan anyway.
The pair headed towards the break room, when Morgan spotted Greg heading their way too. Reacting without really thinking, Morgan quickly pulled Henry under the mistletoe, and the startled lab rat's lips came crashing into hers. Morgan held the pose as she casually glanced over to Greg, who approached them with an amused smirk.
"Excuse me, guys" the male CSI said, squeezing through the gap and into the room.
Morgan finally released Henry and looked at Greg with an annoyed frown. Henry was still revealing in the kiss, but then he noticed Morgan's irritated glare.
"Was that just to try and make Greg jealous?" he whispered.
Morgan felt really guilty all of a sudden "No, Henry, I…"
"It's okay" Henry said with a wave of dismissal "I'm gunna brag to Hodges about it anyway!" he said with an eager smile and bounded off. Morgan just rolled her eyes.
"Not a very good kisser, huh?" Greg teased after seeing the motion.
"No, it was very sweet" Morgan replied with a smile.
Greg chuckled "Way to go, Henry" he mumbled, grabbing his coffee cup and heading over to the doorway where Morgan was still stood.
The blonde stepped in his way and placed her hands behind her back in an innocent manner "Hey, you still owe me since you got…distracted, earlier" Morgan said, her tone quite clearly signalling she didn't believe Greg.
Greg just shuffled his feet nervously "Yeah I err…I guess I do" he said.
Morgan went in for the kiss before Greg could make up an excuse again, but Greg ducked his head around as if he was going to kiss Morgan on the cheek instead. However, Nick walked by at that time waving his hand for Greg to follow him.
"C'mon, G, we got a major lead!" the older CSI called.
Greg sighed in what Morgan hoped was frustration rather than relief. "Sorry, I gotta go" Greg said sheepishly as he stepped away.
"Yeah, whatever, saved by the bell I guess" Morgan mumbled and pushed past him.
"Morgan, wait!" Greg called, but the female CSI was too upset to hear the guilt and longing in his tone.
Greg sighed as he watched Morgan walk away; he felt awful, but he didn't know if he could tell Morgan the real reason he wouldn't kiss her…
Morgan had been very distracted at her crime scene; how could Greg hate her that much? The blond felt she could no longer deny Greg had some major problem with her and she couldn't believe he'd hidden it for so long. She thought she and Greg were best friends, more than best friends… he was always saying how much he cared about Morgan, telling her how much he loved to see her smile. But apparently that had all been part of some big lie. Morgan could have vouched for Greg being one of the nicest guys on earth when they first met, apparently not…
Morgan returned to the lab to the sight of Greg sharing yet another kiss, this time with Sara. Why is it just me? She thought sadly, as tears once again began to form in her eyes. It was time to confront Greg about this, she just needed to know, needed to be told, and then she could try and move on.
"Morgan!" Greg called waving her over after Sara had gone "I need to talk to you…"
Morgan took a deep breath of preparation before heading over; this is it, he's going to say he hates me… Greg was sat at the table waiting for her and Morgan sat opposite him; normally she would sit next to him, but they were probably about to become a lot less close than before relationship wise too…
"Listen, I owe you an explanation for…well, appearing to be a bit of an ass earlier" Greg said gingerly.
"A bit" Morgan scoffed and folded her arms in a guarded way "Just tell me what I did Greg, okay, tell me what I did that was so horrible…"
"You didn't do anything!" Greg quickly assured her; he sounded sincere, but Morgan was feeling too hurt to believe him. "Look, there's a reason that I didn't wanna kiss you both those times and…it might sound stupid to you, but to me…to me it makes perfect sense"
Morgan tried to remain indifferent, but her curiosity was getting the better of her. "So…so you don't have some huge grudge against me? You don't hate me?" she said with tears in her eyes.
"No!" Greg said, feeling worse than ever before and looking upset himself. "Morgan, I could never hate you. You're kind, funny, caring…you're so important to me" he said, moving around the table to sit next the blond and taking her hand. Morgan considered pulling away at first, but the look in Greg's eyes told her he was being genuine. "Please, don't be upset" Greg added squeezing her hand "God, I'm such a jerk!" he berated himself and buried his head in his hands and he started sniffing through tears.
"No you're not" Morgan said gently as she placed a hand on his back.
"Yes I am" Greg said looking at her with puffy eyes "I thought I was doing the right thing…but instead I ruined everything! I didn't mean to make you upset, I'd never want that!"
"Hey, Ssh calm down" Morgan said rubbing his back soothingly; she could tell Greg was really feeling awful about this.
Greg finally cooled himself down and looked at Morgan "Look the reason I didn't kiss you under that stupid mistletoe was because… I wanted our first kiss to be because we were in love, not because of some stupid tradition. I wanted it to last for a long, long time, not some practically meaningless peck; I wanted it to be because I'd just taken you on this super romantic date. And I wanted to know, when having that first kiss, that there would be a million more to come, because if it were ever just the one, under some lame piece of mistletoe, then I would be heartbroken"
Morgan was not often rendered speechless, but right then was one of those times. She couldn't believe that after a day of thinking Greg actually hated her, that he would confess all that. Morgan couldn't believe she ever doubted Greg's sincerity; he truly was the sweetest and caring guy. He did love Morgan back, he did want them to kiss and be together, and that made Morgan feel happier than anything else in the world.
Greg was quite surprised himself; he felt like the worst person in the world for making Morgan so hurt, but he was glad she knew now at least.
"I've scared you off, haven't I?" Greg said sheepishly "I know I don't deserve you after the way I acted earlier…"
But he was cut short by Morgan pushing her lips against his. The motion was deep and passionate, and a spark was ignited within the CSIs which was unlikely to ever extinguish. It was better than either Greg or Morgan could ever have imagined, and there was definitely love there. Eventually, the pair rather reluctantly pulled apart, and Morgan looked Greg in the eye.
"I promise you, there will be a million more to come" she said quietly, and Greg smiled.
"I'm looking forward to each and every one" he replied.
Yey! ^_^
