A/N: Hey guys! Thank you so much for the awesome reviews, and I hope you're having a Happy New Year! I know the story is a little late, but it's for a Guest who asked that Greg and Morgan kiss on New Year's Eve. I hope you enjoy!
Summary – Greg and Morgan kissed on New Year's Eve, and they're now looking to their friends for advice about their relationship. Morganders!
The Kiss
It wasn't planned, they weren't together, weren't fully aware of their feelings for each other, it just sort of…happened.
New Year's Eve, and the crime lab night shift – except Russell who was home with his wife – were in a club just off the strip waiting for the clock to hit midnight. Henry and Hodges were desperately trying to find a girl to kiss at midnight, whilst Sara and Mandy sat ridiculing them for it. Catherine and Nick were at the bar getting the next round of drinks, and Morgan was sat quietly by herself as she watched Greg talking to some woman.
Morgan wasn't sure why it bothered her, watching Greg and the woman together, Greg was just her friend…nothing more. He had every right to talk to whoever he wanted, although, now Morgan looked closer, she wasn't sure Greg wanted to be talking to that woman at all.
The woman was clearly drunk, swaying on the spot and then leaning heavily on Greg, who politely tried to push her away, but not in an obvious way – Greg is too kind for that, Morgan's knew. The woman then tried to kiss Greg, but he moved his head, and he was starting to look more uncomfortable by the second. Suddenly, the woman's grip on Greg intensified and she inappropriately placed a hand on Greg's inner thigh; Greg looked extremely freaked as he struggled to get away.
Morgan was suddenly aware of the fact she'd moved from her spot and was stood behind the woman. The CSI tapped on the woman's shoulder, and she swirled around dizzily.
"Whaddya want?" she asked with a slur; Morgan cringed at the alcohol on her breath "He's mine, beat it Blondie!"
"He doesn't want you" Morgan said with narrowed eyes and a discreetly dangerous tone. "Now I suggest that you move along and go home before I arrest you for harassment" Morgan said firmly as she folded her arms.
The woman eyed Morgan up and down once before scoffing and stumbling away. Greg just remained frozen for a moment, shocked. However, it wasn't the woman's actions which had rendered him speechless, it was Morgan's. Why had she done that? She didn't have to… but Greg supposed that's just what friends do.
"Are you alright?" Morgan asked, delicately placing a hand on Greg's arm.
"Yeah" Greg finally said as he ran a hand through his hair "Yeah, sorry, you must think I'm really pathetic for…"
"You have nothing to be sorry for" Morgan cut him off "Men and women taking advantage of each other can work both ways" she tried to make Greg realise it didn't make him weak at all; he could never be weak in Morgan's eyes.
"Well, thank you" Greg said with a soft smile as he took Morgan's hand. The touch was warm and welcoming; it was almost as if their hands fitted together in perfect harmony. "Come and dance with me?" Greg asked despite himself.
Morgan paused for a moment "I don't know how" she replied with a blush.
Greg raised an eyebrow and laughed "And you think I do?"
Morgan just smiled softly and allowed Greg to take her to the middle of the dance floor. Greg spun Morgan under his arm and then gently wrapped his arms around her waist as they started swaying to the slow song. Morgan sighed with content as she subconsciously rested her head on Greg's chest and listened to his beating heart; she found herself wondering if one day that heart could beat for her. Greg also relished having Morgan in his arms; he found himself holding her a little tighter, not wanting her to slip away.
Eventually, the count down to the New Year begun with only ten seconds to go. Morgan looked into Greg's dark brown eyes and he met her crystal blue ones. No words needed to be spoken, it was like a silent mutual agreement, because the moment the clock struck 12, and a chorus of Happy New Year erupted around the club, Greg and Morgan's lips met.
It wasn't just a quick and friendly peck, it was deep, and passionate, like something the pair had been holding in for a long time, just waiting for the right moment together. Greg and Morgan pulled apart, both looking a little shocked by what had just happened between them. Greg opened his mouth to speak, but then their friends called them back over for champagne.
Greg and Morgan headed over, and they didn't speak for the rest of the night.
Catherine received a very frantic phone call from Morgan the following afternoon. The younger CSI insisted that they meet at the diner because she had something very important to discuss. Catherine was intrigued, and happily agreed; she did have a mother's intuition after all and something told Catherine this was going to be about a guy.
Morgan had immediately thought to talk to Catherine about what happened because she was the mother of the team and always had some words of wisdom to spare. She'd known Greg a very long time too and so maybe had a better insight of his thought process last night.
"Well, you're either having troubles with a guy, or you killed someone" Catherine smirked as she sat down with Morgan who had nervously been tearing napkins apart.
"It's the first one" Morgan replied as the waitress brought them some coffee. "Something happened between me and Greg last night" she said in almost a whisper, as if Greg was actually around and she didn't want him to hear.
Catherine raised an eyebrow "Oh, and what's that?"
"We kissed, at midnight" Morgan stated "Which I know in itself isn't a big deal, but it was so…meaningful, to me at least, and passionate. It made me feel…complete, you know? Like we were the only two people in the world….and I felt, warm and like I'd been missing out" Morgan hadn't intended on confessing this much, but just thinking about it made her want to relive the moment over and over again.
Catherine just grinned widely and Morgan looked confused "Well it's about time!" the older CSI laughed "Honey, I think everyone knew about you and Greg before the two of you even did"
"Really?" Morgan said, she didn't think it was that obvious. "It's just, before we kissed I helped Greg get away from this woman who tried to…anyway, I'm worried it left him sort of vulnerable and confused, and he just acted on impulse when we kissed and he didn't really mean…"
"Whoa, whoa Morgan, slow down" Catherine said raising a hand "You're thinking way too much into this. Greg is a big boy, he can handle his emotions, and for the record, I don't think what that woman did to him had any impact. I think he'd have kissed you anyway, and I think he's wanted to do it for a long time"
"You really think so?" Morgan asked a little sheepishly.
"Yes!" Catherine exclaimed with a laugh; when were these kids going to get it? "You and Greg would be great for each other, and last night you ignited that spark, and I bet Greg felt it too."
"So…you think I should ask him out?" Morgan asked.
"No, no honey" Catherine said shaking her head "Always make the man come to you" she said with a wink and Morgan laughed; she was glad she had Catherine to talk to.
"I don't know, man, are you sure you wouldn't rather be asking Sara or Catherine about this?" Nick asked dubiously.
Greg had demanded Nick to come around to his apartment, and after explaining what happened last night to the Texan, Nick was left feeling he had little useful input as he sat on the couch and watched Greg nervously pace.
"No, because they'd give me the cryptic woman's answer, I just need a straight forward answer" Greg stated. "What do you think I should do?"
"I think you should sit down because you're making me dizzy" Nick replied, and Greg paused to glare at him; the older man just shrugged.
"Are you going to take this seriously?" Greg asked "Aren't big brother's supposed to dish out advice?!" he said incredulously before pacing again.
"Yeah, but not about this" Nick whined "Advice about how to pitch in baseball, not how to get into Morgan's underwear!"
"That is not what I asked!" Greg but in before he could go any further "Do you think that I should ask Morgan on a date?" he inquired calmly.
Nick sighed; this is not what he signed up for… "I think that…you should do whatever makes you happy" he replied carefully.
"Right…and Morgan makes me happy, very happy" Greg said with a firm nod.
"Do you think Morgan feels the same about you?" Nick asked.
Greg paused his pacing again "I…I think so" he said quietly "I mean, she seemed just as into the kiss as I was… it was strange really, it was if I realised that my ultimate happy ending had been staring me in the face all this time. Morgan saved me that night, and not just from that woman, but I think also from a future filled with lonely nights and loveless days."
Nick cringed and pulled a disgusted face "That's nauseating" was his only response, and soon found a pillow hitting him full force in the face.
"Thanks, you've been a great help" Greg said sarcastically.
"What I meant to say was…" Nick started flatly as he put the pillow back into place "if you tell Morgan that, she'll surely be head over heels for you. In fact, I'm pretty sure she already is. Girls are into that soppy stuff, right?"
Greg smirked and placed his hands on hips "It's no wonder you're single really, is it?" he jibed.
That time it was the younger CSI who found himself with the pillow in his face.
"Morgan, can we talk?" Greg asked as he spotted the blonde chatting to Catherine in her office.
Catherine gave Morgan a look of encouragement and the younger CSI smiled at her before getting up and leaving with Greg.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" Morgan asked brightly.
"Well I…I think after last night, it might be justified to say we feel more for each other than just friends" Greg boldly claimed.
"Yes, I think that would be a fair judgement" Morgan replied with a soft smile.
Greg stopped walking and turned to face her "Morgan, that kiss made me feel like I was on top of the world" he confessed "I wasn't…confused, I knew it was the right thing to do, because the truth is…I really like you, and I think that kiss…that wonderful kiss, was a sign of all the other wonderful things which would be to come if we were together"
Morgan was slightly taken aback by Greg's words; she thought for him to share her feelings would be too good to be true.
"I guess what I'm saying is…" Greg started again "Do you want to go out sometime?" he asked nervously "as…as more than friends?"
"Greg, that kiss was amazing for me too" Morgan stated "And when I saw that woman…there was so much anger within me. I don't ever want you to get hurt, and I don't think that I could ever hurt you, because I really like you too" she took Greg's hands delicately in hers "That kiss ignited a spark which I don't ever want to burn out. So yes, I would like to go on a date with you" she smiled.
Greg just smiled back at her, words not being able to describe how happy he felt at that moment. Instead, he just pulled Morgan into another kiss. It was just as good as the first, and both Greg and Morgan hoped there would be many more to come.
I really wanted to do it so that Morgan and Catherine were talking kinda seriously, and then there was Greg and Nick just not taking it seriously at all XD Boys ;)
Anyway, I realised I'm not going to get all my prompts done by 101, so I will go over that number so I get chance to write all your stories :)
