Summary – Nick and Warrick have a huge argument, can they be friends again? Meanwhile, Greg and Sara make a bet.

"Here are your results" Greg stated as he held out the sheet.

Both Nick and Warrick's hands shot out to take it at the same time, but Warrick got there first; the older CSI gave Nick a rather smug look, and the Texan just glared back at him. Greg sighed and rolled his eyes before going back to work.

"Well, what does it say?" Nick asked impatiently as he tried to take the paper, but Warrick turned his back to him.

"DNA on the murder weapon came back to the wife, just like I said it would" Warrick grinned as he dangled the paper in front of Nick's face.

"That doesn't prove anything!" The Texan argued as he took the sheet "I still stand by the fact she was forced to put her prints on it by the real killer – their son – he's the one with the motive and a questionable alibi"

Warrick scoffed "Why are so desperate to defend this woman? When we talked to her she was clearly batshit crazy!"

"Because I know it's the truth, Warrick" Nick scowled "You always do this when we bet on cases, you always make these desperate attempts to…"

"Me? I'm the one who's desperate?" Warrick laughed humourlessly "Take a look in the mirror, pal. Are you seriously willing to let an innocent person go to jail just so you can win a few bucks?"

Nick was fuming by now "No, Warrick, I couldn't give a damn about that! We're supposed to look at the evidence, that's what we do, but you're being so ignorant...!"

"Do not question how I do my job!" Warrick bit back coldly. "You're just being so God damn immature…

"Enough!" A third voice suddenly yelled. Nick and Warrick looked around in surprise; they'd almost forgotten Greg was there. "Both of you are being absolute idiots!" Greg yelled "If you have two different theories, then look at the case from both angles, but this is not my problem, so get the hell out of my lab!" he exclaimed placing one hand on his hip and then pointing at the door.

Both Nick and Warrick stood in shock for a moment; Greg had never yelled…well… ever, so they knew they'd crossed a line, but both of them were too stubborn to see that. They looked at each other and then folded their arms in a huff. Greg growled in frustration, grabbing both the CSIs' arms and dragging them from the lab, shoving them into the hallway. Both Nick and Warrick noted to not piss Greg off again; he had strength when he was pissed.

"You know what? You are so selfish" Nick started again once they were in the hall "You never listen to what I have to say, what my theory and opinion is, because you always have to be right, well news flash, you're not as smart as you think you are!"

"Oh, that's rich coming from you!" Warrick retorted angrily "Then only reason you're here is because daddy is a judge who bought your way in. You're a hick born and raised!"

Nick's eyes narrowed dangerously "Don't you dare bad mouth my family!" he seethed before lunging at Warrick and pushing him against the wall.

Warrick soon retaliated, balling his hand into a tight fist and taking a swing at Nick, but the Texan ducked out of the way. Chaos soon ensued, and people were soon coming out of their labs and stopping in the hall to watch. Both Nick and Warrick were now supporting a few bruises and Warrick had Nick pinned against the wall, when a stern voice soon distracted them from the fight.

"Nick, Warrick!" It was Grissom's voice, and he sounded pissed; it took a lot to get Grissom to sound pissed too. The two younger CSI's pulled apart and stared each other down "My office, now" Grissom said sternly.

Nick and Warrick followed him all the way in silence. Once they arrived, Grissom sat at his desk and the two younger CSIs sat opposite refusing to even look at each other. Grissom just looked at them over the top of his glasses, and it was enough to make both Nick and Warrick nervous because they couldn't be sure what he was thinking.

"What was that all about?" Grissom soon asked calmly.

"He implied I was stupid…" Warrick mumbled.

"He called me a hick!" Nick retorted.

"Don't you think you were both acting a little childishly?" Grissom asked; he felt like a head teacher talking to a pair of rebellious teenagers.

"Well, I'm not apologising first" Warrick sulked as he folded his arms.

"Me either" Nick replied just as moodily.

Grissom sighed in exasperation "Well, since I can't afford to suspend you at the current time, I will just have to take you off the case. You're both on lab duty until I say so, and Greg can go out in the field instead. Nick, you go help Hodges, Warrick you're with Catherine"

Both Nick and Warrick nodded in understanding before leaving the room and heading their separate ways. Grissom shook his head; they were good guys, the best of friends, and he knew if they fell apart, the rest of the team wouldn't be far behind them.

"Hey, I've just been told I'm working with you now" Greg informed Sara as he found her in the light room. "What are you doing?"

"I've taken over Nick and Warrick's case, so far, I don't think either of them were right" Sara replied. "Can you believe them? I thought they were two peas in a pod"

"So did I" Greg said with a sad sigh "but I don't appreciate them always using my lab as their battleground, you know? That's my sanctuary"

Sara smirked "I never thought I'd hear you raise your voice"

Greg hitched his eyebrow "You heard?"

"Everything" Sara said bluntly "I think the whole lab did, Nick and Warrick were really going at it"

"It's kind of…worrying" Greg said with a frown "Could you imagine what it would be like if they weren't friends anymore?"

"Oh, they will be" Sara said confidently "This is just a silly boy's spat, they'll be over it by the end of the shift"

Greg scoffed; it seemed more serious than a 'spat' to him "Wanna bet on it?" he said frivolously.

"Sure, why not" Sara shrugged.

Greg looked at her surprised; he wasn't being serious, and Sara never seemed like the gambling type. "Alright" he finally said "They're stubborn as hell, fifty bucks says they're still fighting about this tomorrow"

"You're on" Sara said shaking his hand.

Warrick was walking down to autopsy with Catherine, still ranting about what Nick had said to him. Catherine was growing tired of listening; the boys were being stubborn and there was really no need for a silly argument about a bet to blow out of proportion like that. Co-worker instinct told her not to interfere, however motherly instinct told her she should give them a good scolding.

"Look, you were both out of line" Catherine finally but into Warrick's outburst. "You both need to apologise, it doesn't matter who does it first. You guys are like brothers, and I'm telling you know, you're really going to miss having Nick around"

Warrick frowned "You say that like I depend on the guy…"

"To an extent, you do" Catherine shrugged "Who else are you going to make stupid bets with, talk about football, hit on girls…who are you going to protect?"

Warrick scoffed "What? No" he said shaking his head.

"You like having Nick's back" Catherine said "You were so upset about the whole Nigel Crane thing…"

"Don't mention that bastards name to me" Warrick growled.

Catherine smirked "See! You do care. You miss talking to Nick already, and I'm pretty sure Nick's missing talking to you too"

Warrick sighed. Annoyingly, Catherine was right, she was always right…although, he would never tell her that.

Nick couldn't help but feel he'd gotten the worse end of the deal being stuck with Hodges; the lab tech wouldn't let him touch anything. Nick had thought Greg got a bit snappy when people moved things in his 'perfectly laid out' lab; Hodges was ten times worse.

"So…you watch the game last night?" Nick tried to start conversation as he watched Hodges cut up some swabs.

"The game?" Hodges asked with a frown.

"Yeah, you know…football?" Nick prompted.

No, I have never nor will I ever be interested in activities associated with jocks" Hodges replied bluntly and Nick looked at him surprised. "If you wanna talk about that stuff then go back to Warrick"

Nick rolled his eyes "No chance"

"Why not?" Hodges asked.

"He thinks the only reason I'm here is 'cause of my dad" Nick replied bitterly.

Hodges shrugged "I'm sure he doesn't mean it. You're both just very competitive and you got caught up in the heat of the moment. Boys will be boys and all that garbage"

Nick smirked "Since when did you care about this stuff?" he asked.

Hodges sighed, and stopped what he was doing to look at Nick. "It doesn't take a genius to see that you and Warrick are best friends, and that's great because in a job like this, you're always gunna need someone to talk to and fall back on. So, if you don't make up now, you're gunna regret it for as long as you work here. Take me and Sanders, sure, we fight, but he's actually a really good listener when I'm having girl problems or something – don't tell him I said that" he added with a stern look.

Nick gave him a small smile; who would have thought Hodges would be an epiphany inducer. Nick knew Warrick wasn't really down with the sensitive stuff, but he tried, for Nick's sake. Warrick always had Nick's back, and the Texan said he would always have Warrick's.

Just before the end of their shift, Nick and Warrick were looking for each other when they came face to face outside the break room. There was a pause for a moment, before the blurting out of "I'm sorry" in unison.

"I'm sorry I implied you were stupid" Nick said "You're not, like, at all, you always know what to do and what to say and… you understand football" he added with a smirk and Warrick laughed.

"I'm sorry too, you worked hard to get here man, and you always work hard. I'll always have your back, Nicky, and that shouldn't change because of some stupid argument about a bet"

"Right" Nick agreed with a smile "I'll always look out for you too. You're my best friend"

"We're more than that, we're brothers, man" Warrick said with a smile and patted his arm in a friendly gesture.

"You guys suck!" a voice suddenly called, and the pair turned to see an irked looking Greg and laughing Sara.

"Pay up!" Sara said sticking out her hand, Greg shoved some bills into it.

"You guys made a bet out of this!?" Warrick asked incredulously.

"Whoa, steady on there mister hypocrite" Greg said folding his arms.

"We were miserable, and you wanted to make money out of it" Nick said with disbelieving.

"Well, you're not miserable anymore" Sara said waving the cash around "Which means I win"

"Whatever" Greg said with a roll of his eyes and walked away.

"So, who apologised first?" Sara asked.

"We kinda said sorry at the same time" Warrick explained.

"Oh" Sara said with a pout "Well, in my opinion, the best and strongest man is the one who can admit that he's wrong first" she said with an innocent shrug, before turning and walking away with a smile on her face.

"I totally apologised first" Nick called after her.

"Did not!" Warrick argued.

"Did to…"
