Summary – Morgan tells Greg how she feels after rescuing him from his kidnapper, and she is determined to find out what happened and make the psychopath pay. Morganders!
Hard Truths
It had been an agonising as Nick and Morgan waited for the doctor to let them see Greg. Nick had called Sara to let her know they had found Greg and needless to say she'd been shocked. She'd called it a miracle and Nick didn't have the heart to tell her just what a bad state Greg was in. Sara said she would tell Finn and Russell, and that they'd visit their recently found friend as soon as possible.
As Nick headed back to Morgan after he made the call, he found Greg's doctor already talking to her. Morgan was nodding like she understood, but she'd kind of stopped listening after the doctor said Greg would be fine. She wasn't sure if she wanted to cry with happiness because the man she'd loved was back in her life again, or cry at the simple thought of what horror Greg must have been through.
"Anyway, a lot of the injuries were only minor…" the doctor was saying as Nick joined them "cuts and bruises which will heal in a while, nothing was infected although I'm afraid some of the burn marks may be permanent." He said sadly. Nick sighed and shook his head, Morgan just blinked as a tear slipped down her face "The main problem now is Greg suffering from malnutrition and dehydration. We have him on an IV drip for now, but we're determined to get something more solid in him soon"
"Alright, thank you doctor" Nick croaked as Morgan still seemed in shock and beyond words. "Do you want to go and sit with him?" Nick asked as he turned to Morgan.
The younger CSI looked at him blankly for a moment, before replying quietly "I don't know"
Nick nodded in understanding; he too was dubious about seeing Greg that way, so tortured and scared of everyone.
"I know that it'll be hard, but Greg needs you now" Nick said placing a comforting hand on Morgan's shoulder. "Whoever that bastard was clearly said something to Greg to make him think we don't care about him. Well, we have to prove to Greg that guy is wrong, and God knows what he's been through, but we have to be there for Greg and be strong for him"
Morgan nodded and wiped her eyes; Nick was right, she had to keep it together for Greg's sake.
"Are you coming?" she asked the older man.
Nick gave her a soft smile "I think you're the one Greg wants to see right now, I can wait"
Morgan gave him a slightly confused look, but nodded and headed off the Greg's room. She cautiously took hold of the door handle, before taking a deep breath to prepare herself and entering the room.
Morgan's heart broke all over again when she saw Greg a sleep in his bed, clean and stitched up, but still pale, thin and trembling. Morgan didn't want to wake Greg because she wondered when the last time he felt safe enough to sleep was, so she allowed the investigator in her to take over and started looking at Greg's injuries. It was the first step to finding out who did this and what happened to Greg.
There's a mixture of burns from two different sources; small circular ones probably from cigarettes, longer ones, but fainter, possibly a lighter. Paleness of skin suggests lack of sunlight, and prominent chaffing around wrists and ankles suggest they were bound with rope. Cuts seem consistent with a fine knife, and bruises tend to vary, however some deeper ones form a distinctive shape, possibly because the attacker wore knuckledusters.
Morgan realised she was crying again by the time she tore herself away from the torturous observations, but she was also livid beyond belief that someone could do that to sweet, caring Greg. She took Greg's shaking hand in hers and rubbed a comforting thumb over the top. After a few moments, Greg's hand stopped shaking and Morgan gave a soft smile – he knew she was there.
Morgan wanted to wait for Greg to wake up on his own terms, but after a while Greg started breathing heavily and shaking even worse – he was having a nightmare.
"N-no, p-please" he mumbled, thrashing around.
"Greg, Greg sweetie wake up" Morgan begged as she sat on the edge of the bed and took Greg's shoulders – a bad move, the CSI freaked out even more.
"No!" he cried and tried to shy away.
"Greg! Please wake up!" Morgan said loudly now as he was starting to scare her "It's alright, you're safe, I'm here, and he won't hurt you anymore I promise" she reinforced her earlier claim.
Greg's eyes suddenly shot open and he was still breathing heavily. Morgan opened her mouth to say something to calm him down, but Greg launched himself towards her, wrapping his arms around her waist and burying his head in her shoulder.
"Ssh, it's okay, it was just a dream" Morgan said as she ran and hand up and down his back and rocked slightly to lull her distraught friend.
"I-I was back in that b-basement" Greg stuttered "I-it was s-so dark, a-and I keep p-ulling at the ropes to es-scape but I c-couldn't"
"Greg…" Morgan said softly, partly wanting him to stop because he was upsetting himself, but partly wanting to find out what happened.
"A-and then h-he came in" Greg continued anyway "H-he had the cigarette lit i-in his m-mouth ready to use, and h-he was twisting the kn-nife around in h-his hand. H-he kissed the knuckledusters, h-he said th-this time for sure…I'd die this time for sure"
"Well he was wrong, so wrong" Morgan reminded him "We found you, we never stopped looking for you and now you're here, alive. We missed you so much and we love you"
"Th-that's not w-what he s-said" Greg mumbled as he pulled away and wiped his eyes. "H-he said y-you didn't care. That's why you d-didn't find m-me, 'cause I'm a b-bad person"
"Bullshit!" Morgan snapped angrily and Greg looked at her wide eyed in shock. The female CSI immediately calmed. "I'm sorry it's just, I can't believe what this bastard has done to you. Don't you dare believe anything he said was true for even a second. You did nothing to deserve this." She placed a delicate hand on the side of Greg's face and brushed the tears from his cheeks "Like I said, we never stopped looking, and you are the kindest, most caring man I've ever met"
Greg ducked his head "You don't have to say that to make me feel better"
"I'm not, I mean it" Morgan assured him, as she used her finger to lift Greg's chin so their eyes met "and I had to find you, because I couldn't bear the thought of never telling you how I felt. I was heartbroken, a part of me felt missing, because you are a part of me, one of the most important parts of my life, and I'd like us to spend the rest of our lives together"
Morgan had thought she'd find it extremely hard to tell Greg the truth about how she felt, yet the words just seemed to flow naturally as she spoke from the heart- as cliché as it sounded. She and Greg had flirted a lot, showed they cared a lot for each other in different ways. Morgan hoped she hadn't been wrong in assuming Greg wanted them to be together too.
"But…I'm so… damaged" Greg whispered sadly – how could anyone love him when he looked like this, and was so mentally wounded too?
Morgan sighed sadly "No you're not" was all she said before leaning in and giving Greg a delicate kiss on the lips. Greg seemed a little cautious at first, but he soon responded by pushing their lips a little closer together "I'm here to protect you now" Morgan said as they pulled away and rest their foreheads against each other's. "because I love you, and I can't stand the thought of losing you again"
And then, Greg smiled. He never thought he would genuinely smile ever again after what he'd been through, but he should have known his friends would never give up on him, and he really believed Morgan when she said he wasn't in danger anymore, because Morgan and her smile and words always made him feel safe.
Greg had fallen for Morgan ever since the day they met, and hearing her say she loved him was something Greg had always longer for. And now, even though they were in a hospital and Greg believed he looked nothing short of freakish, Morgan seemed truthful in her words, of course, she was too honest and caring to lie.
"I love you too" Greg finally replied.
Morgan smiled back at him "I'm going to find the bastard who did this to you, and make him pay" she added a little darkly.
"I scratched him" Greg suddenly remembered as he looked down at his fingers "A few times, maybe there's some DNA. I know his face, but he never gave me a name, and I'm not sure where I was"
"Okay" Morgan said. "I'll take a sample later, but right now everyone else wants to see you"
Greg smiled "I've missed you all so much"
"We missed you too" Morgan replied, and quietly swore vengeance against the psychopath who caused this whole trauma.
Harrison Moran. That was the name of Greg's capturer, his torturer…of the soon to be dead man when Morgan got her hands on him. She'd taken a sample from Greg and run it through CODIS. Harrison's name popped up for attempted murder and kidnapping almost 20 years before. They had his address, but if Harrison would still be there was a different question.
Morgan had been warned by Brass to stay back until they gave the place the all clear, but naturally she didn't want to listen – she was Conrad Ecklie's daughter after all. She just wanted to find Harrison and tear him limb from limb.
When they reached the house, Morgan drew her gun along with the rest of the officers and followed them inside. Whilst they were checking the rooms, Morgan spotted a concealed trapdoor in the hallway. Opening It, she found it lead down to the basement – she remembered Greg saying that's where he'd been kept. Pulling out a torch, Morgan cautiously made her way down the steps.
It made her feel sick, the sight of the ropes on the walls which had clearly been used to keep Greg tied up, the smears of blood all over the walls and floor. There was no light in the room except for the small rectangular window which not even a cat could have fit through. Morgan went over to collect the rope as evidence, when she suddenly heard the click of the safety being taken off a gun.
"I told you not to look for me" Harrison's gruff voice said as Morgan slowly turned to face him; she kept her own gun hidden behind her. "I came back to clean up, leave no loose ends, and you just become one of them" he grinned maliciously.
"You also said I wouldn't find you, and really coming back to your own home was the stupidest thing you could have done" Morgan taunted.
Harrison laughed "Goodbye, little girl"
Morgan smirked "Oh, I'm all woman, far more than you can handle" she said finally bringing around her own gun "And this is for Greg, you bastard" and with that, she pulled the trigger.
One shot straight to the heart, that's all it took, and then Harrison fell to the floor dead. Officers heard the noise and started charging into the basement, but Morgan didn't need help. She looked down at Harrison's body feeling no regret at all.
It was over, and she could now go and spend the rest of her life with Greg.
Yey, a bit of BAMF Morgan at the end there ;)
To the Guest who gave me a prompt based on 'Boston Brakes'. Unfortunately since I am from England I haven't seen any episodes from the current series, so I promise your story will be done, but probably not until I've seen the episode, sorry about that :/
I am loving these prompts guys, I can't wait to work on all of them! Do keep 'em coming!
