A/N: Hello my lovelies! Thank you so much for the kind reviews :) So, I previously did a story were Greg and Ryan Wolfe met in Vegas, and jazzmonkey then requested I do a follow up story where Greg visits Ryan in Miami, so here we are! I hope you enjoy :)
Summary – Greg goes to Miami to visit Ryan and he meets the rest of the Miami crew.
In Miami
Greg thanked and paid the taxi driver before going to get his suitcase out the trunk and taking in the coastal air. He smiled as he put his oversized shades on and scanned the scenery. The sun was blazing down and it felt hotter than in Vegas, palm trees were swaying in the light breeze and there wasn't a cloud in the sky – it was tropical, it was a paradise, and it had been a long time since Greg had chance to lounge by the beach on vacation.
Greg's friend Ryan Wolfe had invited him out to stay for the weekend. Greg and Ryan had met a couple of years ago in Vegas when Greg helped Ryan with a mugger. After that, they had stayed in contact, e-mailing and talking over web-cam; they had grown to be good friends.
Ryan had suggested that Greg met him at the lab first so he could give Greg a tour and then head out for dinner. Greg had happily agreed, and now he was heading into the large building, dragging his suitcase behind him. Ryan told Greg he'd informed the receptionist he was coming, so the Las Vegas CSI could leave his luggage there. After ditching his case Greg started to wonder around the lobby as he waited for his friend.
The place already seemed a lot different from his lab back in Vegas. Everything seemed so overtly modern and the technology seemed to the be the latest and top rated designs. Everyone seemed friendly too, smiling at Greg and wishing him a good afternoon – who isn't happy living this close to the beach? Greg wondered.
"Finally, there you are!" A man suddenly called as he approached Greg, although, it wasn't Ryan. "I've been looking for you everywhere. What are you doing?" the man seemed quite annoyed. Greg was highly confused and opened his mouth to say something, but the man just sighed and took hold of his arm. "Never mind, let's go" he said, and started dragging Greg through the building.
"Excuse me, I really don't know…" Greg started as he tried to squirm free.
"Have you gotten taller?" the man asked, but he didn't look at Greg, just kept trudging down the hall "And are those shades new?"
"Erm…yeah?" Greg said uncertainly.
"I like 'em, they make you look less of a dork" the man teased.
"Erm…thanks" Greg said.
"Greg? Eric?" Ryan suddenly appeared from around the corner carrying a file and looking awfully perplexed.
"Ryan?" Eric said, looking just as confused and then he looked back at Greg who just waved sheepishly.
"Hey, I'm Greg Sanders, nice to meet you"
Eric immediately let go and looked wide eyed in shock as his gaze bounced between the two men, Greg took off his shades and smirked – he couldn't help but be amused.
"Oh, sorry" Eric said feeling more than slightly awkward and embarrassed "I thought you were…you just look so much alike"
"I can't believe you thought he was me!" Ryan exclaimed feeling slightly offended "You spend most days with me and you don't even know what I look like, thanks a lot, Delko!"
"Sure I do! You look like him" Eric said pointing back to Greg. Ryan just looked at Eric highly unimpressed. "Are you guy's related or something?" Delko asked as he turned to Greg.
"Yeah, Ryan is my little cousin" Greg lied, and Ryan looked at him suspiciously wondering what he was up to "And I'm very protective of him, and I've heard quite a few stories…" he trailed off.
"Yeah, well um" Eric coughed feeling more awkward "I mean… he knows I'm just kidding around"
"I don't know that" Ryan said, and Eric shot him a look.
"Well, I suggest you're nice to him" Greg said with a smirk "Like I said, I'm very protective of my lil cousin." He warned.
"Erm…right, good to know" Eric said with a wobbly smile and Ryan tried not to laugh. "It was erm...it was nice meeting you" Delko said, before hurrying off down the hall.
"Thanks for that" Ryan smirked at Greg as he continued to lead the way "Eric and I can clash heads sometimes, but he's really not that bad"
Ryan led Greg all around the building, talking him through all the different labs and bits of technology. Greg was highly fascinated by it all, and again he found it strange just how different it was from Vegas. Their next stop was at the DNA lab, and they entered to find – Greg thought – a pretty woman tapping away at the computer.
"Hey, Natalia" Ryan greeted with a somewhat shy smile, Greg noticed.
"Hey, Ryan" the woman said looking up at him and Greg. "Say, who's your cute friend?" she asked with a seductive smile at Greg.
"Erm, this is Greg Sanders" Ryan introduced them as he overcame the initial surprise at the wording of Natalia's question "He's a CSI in Las Vegas, and he used to work as a DNA Analyst too"
"Nice to meet you" Greg said with a polite smile as he shook Natalia's hand.
"So, you like DNA too, huh?" Natalia asked with grin.
"Oh yeah, love it" Greg smiled back.
"Maybe you could help me with something?" Natalia asked as she moved over to the microscope "I'm having trouble determining what kind of hair this is"
"Actually Natalia, Greg and I have to…" Ryan tried to say but Natalia waved him off.
"Oh, I'm sure Greg doesn't mind" she said with a sweet smile.
"Not at all" Greg said as he moved over to the scope and zoomed in a little more "Ah, yeah, I've seen this before. It's actually from a tiger, is your crime scene part of a circus or a show or something?"
"Yes! And one of our suspects actually trains the tigers" Natalia said happily "Thanks Greg, you just broke my case" she said with admiration.
"I could have told you that" Ryan mumbled, but Natalia didn't hear him.
"Do you maybe want to get coffee sometime whilst you're here?" Natalia asked Greg.
Greg looked surprised for a moment before looking over at Ryan who looked a little upset "Sorry but Ryan and I have a lot planned, and we don't get to see each other much so…"
"Oh, well that's okay" Natalia shrugged "I'll see you around though" she said with same seductive smile as before, taking her new results and leaving.
"Come on" Ryan said a little glumly before leading Greg from the room.
Greg frowned a little concernedly. "What's up?" he asked.
"Oh, it's nothing" Ryan said dejectedly; he felt stupid for acting like that, Greg wasn't to know after all.
"You like Natalia, huh?" Greg asked with a soft smile "but she doesn't seem interested?" Ryan shook his head "Well then you gotta make yourself stand out!" Greg encouraged.
"How?" Ryan asked pessimistically.
"Well, just don't be shy with her, show her that you're confident" Greg advised. "But act natural, don't make it seem like you're changing who you are. And just really talk to her about things other than work, what her hobbies, interests etc. are."
"Okay" Ryan gave himself a confident nod "Okay, I can do that"
"Good" Greg said with a smile as he clapped his friend on the back.
Ryan smiled back at him. "We can head out for dinner soon" the Miami CSI said "I just need to give this file to Calleigh" he stated.
They found Calleigh in the ballistics lab firing some heavy duty guns. Ryan and Greg had to cover their ears as they entered the lab, and Calleigh didn't realise they were there at first; she was having too much fun.
"Hey!" Ryan finally called when things went quiet again.
Calleigh turned around, taking off her ear protectors and smiled. "Hey, boys" she grinned "You must be Greg, Ryan's told me a lot about you" she said going over to shake Greg's hand.
"Yes, I've heard a lot about you too" Greg smiled "Looks like fun" he said pointing to the guns "What are you firing?"
"I got a twelve bore shotgun" Calleigh said proudly as she tapped the barrel of the fire arm "Our potential murder weapon"
"Speaking of which, I bought you the coroner's report" Ryan said handing over the file and Calleigh thanked him.
"You like to play with guns, Greg?" Calleigh asked.
"Oh not at all" Greg frowned "We're scientists first, cops second in Vegas. I barely pass my firearms each time"
"That's too bad" Calleigh said as she cocked the gun and put in some more rounds "but if you fancy some target practice whilst you're here, come find me!"
Greg chuckled " Sure, thanks. It was nice meeting you"
"Nice meeting you too" she said whilst placing the ear protectors back on "Have a good one boys!" she said a little louder before turning and taking another shot at the target.
"C'mon, before we go deaf" Ryan said, and he led Greg out the room.
Ryan and Greg headed to the entrance to collect Greg's luggage before heading for a bite to eat. As they reached the reception desk Ryan smiled at an older man who was heading in the opposite direction.
"Hey, Horatio" Ryan greeted.
"Detective Caine?" Greg asked in surprise.
"Greg Sanders" Horatio said with a smile as he shook the younger man's hand "I almost didn't recognise you, good to see you again, kid"
"Yes sir, you too" Greg smiled.
Ryan just looked confused "You two know each other?" he asked.
"Sure, remember I told you I lived in New York for a little while?" Greg said and Ryan nodded "Well, Horatio was a detective in New York at the time and we met when I was shadowing someone from the crime lab as part of my lab and field experience, I must have be what, twenty?"
Horatio nodded "This young man was more observant than some of the guys who'd worked at that crime lab for ten years or more" he said.
"Thank you, sir" Greg said.
"Please, Horatio" the older man said. "How are things going for you now?"
"I did a stint as a DNA technician in Vegas, but not I' m a fully-fledged level three CSI" Greg said proudly.
"I'm pleased for you" Horatio said with a rare smile "I could tell you'd go far, just like I could when I met Ryan here. That's why I wanted to hire him, and he hasn't failed me yet"
Ryan smiled "Thanks, boss"
"Anyway, you guys go and enjoy your weekend" Horatio said. "It was nice seeing you again, Greg"
"Yeah, you too" Greg smiled, and they shook hands again, before Ryan said good night too and the younger CSIs headed out.
"Your team seems really great" Greg said as they left the building.
"Yeah, they are" Ryan said with a small smile "I mean, it was hard to fit in and get to be open at first but…we've been through so much together I guess I know they'll have my back in the end, and I'll have theirs"
"I'm glad you feel that way" Greg smiled "My team are like my family, and I don't know what I'd do without any of them. People come and go, but I keep in contact with them all"
Ryan nodded; he hoped he could become that close with his team soon.
"So, what do you fancy to eat?" Ryan asked.
"Oh, anywhere you can recommend" Greg said as he flung his arm around Ryan's shoulder in a friendly gesture "Show me Miami!" he said brightly and Ryan laughed.
Ryan liked to know Greg was always there for him when things were rough at home, but it was even greater to have Greg here as he encouraged Ryan to let loose, and Ryan was determined to make sure they had an awesome time.
I really like writing the friendship between Greg and Ryan; I really wish they had met! I hope my characterisation of the others was okay, and sorry for any OOCness.
I love all these prompts, don't be shy, send as many as you want!
Please Review :) xx
