The young man let out a small sigh, holding the small bag with both hands as he walked out of the store. He turned around to look at the store for a moment before he shook his head, continuing on his way.
Jeez… The man thought mentally. I know I enjoy doing this, but do they really have to charge this much? I've been going there for years! Surely they could afford to give me some sort of discount…
Despite those thoughts, he still held a wide smile on his face. He had gotten what he needed in the shop, plus a little extra. He peered into the bag once more to check that he had actually got the materials that he needed, and that they had not in fact somehow been magically taken from his bag. He smiled as he confirmed they were there.
Thank god they are still there… These fabrics cost a ton! Sheryl better be happy with what's made with these. He thought.
Shifting the fabrics to the side a little bit, he pulled out another small box.
He'd transfer the bag onto his arm, holding the box gently. He would open it up, looking into the the small, golden chain along with a small locket. He took it out, slowly letting it unfurl itself as the locket fell down.
Whenever he saw some sort of jewellery or accessory, it always brought a smile to his face. Just the thought and care people put into these things was enough to pump him up. It made him want to work harder on his scarf making, make some super unique design!
His thoughts wondered back towards the locket held in his hands. The locket chain was a bit small for him to wear personally, but he would certainly be able to find a good place to store it in his room. Maybe one of those mannequin heads he had? They could always do with some more jewellery…
Even as he thought of it, he wasn't aware that he was beginning to cross the road, but the feeling of someone grabbing his shoulders was enough to snap him out of it.
"Huh?" He spoke, startled before speaking again. "Let go of m- Oh, its you." He spoke, his panic fading as he turned to face the person who had grabbed him.
"Yeah, it's me. What are you so distracted that you can't even tell the lights are green? You would have been walking into traffic Kurose!" The girl spoke.
"Hey! I'm…" Kurose wasn't sure how to respond. "I would have been fine… Probably. I've always been lucky, you know that."
"Yeah, yeah. Your luck is going to run out someday. Probably going to end up with you dying horribly or something just as unfortunate happening." She spoke, rolling her eyes.
"Oh wow, thanks Sheryl. Such a nice thing to say about the person who's going to be making your new scarf."
"Oh shush you. You know you'd make it either way. Plus you still haven't answered my question. What's got you so distracted?"
"Well, you know. Just checking that the fabrics I bought for your…" he pointed towards Sheryl before continuing. "scarf are actually decent enough to be used. As well as this little locket I picked up." Kurose spoke, holding his hand out for Sheryl to see.
"Ooh, let me see!" With that, she snatched the locket out of his hand, letting it dangle from her hand. Kurose could only sigh as he saw her holding the locket.
"It really does look nice. What's your plan for it? Are you going to try and get it engraved with something?" She asked curiously.
"No, probably going to display it in my room, like all the other stuff." Kurose replied easily.
"What? You are just going to let something like this sit in your room, gathering dust? Do you even clean the jewellery you have on display in your room?"
"Of course I do! I wouldn't collect that many if I didn't care that much about them! I make sure to clean them whenever I get the chance!" Kurose replied in shock. Who did she take him for?
"Okay I know you clean all of them." She admitted. "Buuuuut... how much money have you spent on all your accessories?" Sheryl asked, a small grin on her face.
Kurose spoke quietly, prompting Sheryl to speak louder.
"What did you say? I couldn't hear you, with all the cars and all that driving by."
"Maybe… just a bit of money?" Kurose spoke.
"I think that's a bit of an understatement. I'm surprised your part time job can even support your hobby."
"Well, it's not like I spend it on anything else is it? I don't go out much, and I don't really speak to others. They usually contact me for something anyway."
"I guess so. But you can't say I don't attempt to try and drag you out! You always worm your way out though." Sheryl spoke with a smile.
"Yeah, but I don't want to go out just to drink. I want to just travel, see the world but thats not a possibility yet."
"Eh, with how good you're getting, you could probably turn your hobby into a job. If people think it's good enough, they might actually pay you a decent amount for it." She spoke.
Sheryl would look around, seeing the light finally turn red, motioning for Kurose to start moving.
"Yeah, maybe, but still. I've got a long way to go until then." He spoke, slowly beginning to walk.
"I'm sure you will get there soon enough, Kurose. What's your plan when you get home?"
"I don't know, maybe I'll start on your scarf? Might as well get it done sooner tha-'' His words died in his throat as he seemed to trip up on something, his face hitting the floor.
Luckily, or unluckily for him, that was not enough to do Kurose in.
Sheryl leaned down, extending a hand out to help him up, doing her best not to laugh. Kurose reached out to take her hand before pausing, hearing the sound of a car starting to move. Turning his head slightly, he saw the car slowly beginning to move onto the zebra crossing, to where he was currently laying.
He tried to push himself up, even as Sheryl stumbled away.
Yet, he didn't seem to be fast enough, much to his shock and confusion. He felt the car wheel driving over his leg, a gasp of pain escaping him as he experienced this new brand of pain. He could hear the cars other wheel getting closer to his head, his eyes wide open, even as Sheryl called out his name.
"Kurose!"
That was the last thing he heard as the world turned black.
Kurose let out a small groan as he pushed himself up from the floor.
Man, that was a pretty vivid dream. Wonder why I'm on the floor… he thought weakly
Even as he moved his head to look around, a voice spoke up. When the hell had they gotten into his room?
"Accessory Hero! We are glad you have answered our summons!"
Moving his head toward the voice, he could only be confused. Was… was this some sort of prank?
"I… Accessory hero? I've had some people call me weird stuff in my life, but Accessory hero? That's new I guess." He spoke nervously.
"We apologize for summoning you, but our world is on the brink of disaster! We require your power to help guide us through it!" The man continued.
What the hell were they saying? World on the brink of disaster? Was this some sort of joke? A play on a game's horrible opening scene?
Then again… even as his eyes wandered the room, he began to realize it wasn't actually his bed room. Just where was he?
"Look, can you just… I don't know, get someone else for the job? I mean, I need to get back and make that scarf for Sher…"
Kurose jumped up, much to the shock of the three people standing before him, his eyes quickly scanning over the room, desperately looking for something.
"Damnit! Did I really lose those fabrics? I needed them!"
"I… Accessory hero, please. What do you think is going on here?"
"I think that this is probably some sort of prank. You can end it now if you want, since it's probably ruined." Kurose responded, still looking for the bag he had been holding.
"Sir hero…" His companion spoke. "What happened before we summoned you? That may jog your memory."
All right… let's play along for now I guess. Kurose thought.
"What happened… Well, I was on my way home, and Sheryl surprised me… we talked about a couple of things, and we started to cross the road… but I… tripped… and the car…"
Kurose's face started to pale as he realized that it was not in fact a prank. That he had in fact died, and that he had been apparently summoned to another world.
"...O-Oh, I… I died didn't I?" He spoke in a small, vulnerable voice.
Before another voice could speak up, Kurose continued to speak
"I really died didn't I? I… I left mum and dad alone… I probably gave Sheryl some trauma…"
Tears formed in his eyes as he shouted the next words.
"ALL BECAUSE I COULDN'T FOCUS ON WHERE I WAS PLACING MY FEET!"
He slumped back down to the floor, tears flowing down his face, even as two of the three people before him looked at each other, unsure of what to do.
"Come, Accessory hero. Let us take you to a more relaxing place than this. These cold floors will do your bones no good if you sit and wallow in your own sadness."
Kurose nodded weakly, standing up once more, but he didn't say a word, Simply accepting the outstretched hand of the man who had spoken.
Kurose followed the robed man throughout the halls of… wherever they were. The two who had spoken to him originally trailed behind them, whispering between each other.
Walking down the hallway, there seemed to be paintings as far as Kurose could see, with there being small bits of text written underneath them.
But try as he might, Kurose just couldn't seem to grasp what it was trying to convey. Was it written in a different language or something?
But it stood to reason that if they had a different way of writing, then they should certainly have a different language. And if that was the case, how was Kurose able to understand them?
"Hey, so um… where are we exactly?" Kurose asked nervously, rubbing the back of his head.
"Ah, I forgot that you may not know where we are. You currently stand in the proud country of Ortensca. It has trained heroes for generations, and so long as it stands, we will continue to train heroes."
Kurose filed that information away to be asked about later. He had mentioned heroes. Not singular, but plural. That meant there were other heroes. Were they from his world as well?
"I see… And where are we currently going?" Kurose asked curiously.
"Right now, we are taking you to the room you will be staying in for the night, hero." The man spoke once more, seeming to nod his head.
"We will be sending someone to answer a few of your questions, as I'm sure you have quite a few. Unfortunately, our leader is not currently here, as he was called away for important matters. I'm sure that you will meet him eventually."
Kurose nodded. It would be nice to get to know the leaders. Maybe he'd be able to get some extra funding out of it?
He shrugged, continuing to look around. As he did, a couple of soldiers walked past, both carrying a short sword and shield with a symbol on it, but what really caught his attention were the scarves they were wearing.
They almost seemed to glow, and it entranced him. He wanted to meet whoever made that scarf. He wanted to learn what they had done to make it glow like that!
Shaking his head, he continued walking, catching up to the man in front.
"So… I never got your name…" Kurose asked, trying to be as casual as he could.
"Ah, my apologies. My name is Karuk." He spoke simply.
"Ok, Karuk, those soldiers, what was that symbol on their shields? I… uh, I got a bit distracted."
"That was the royal family's insignia. If I remember correctly, the royal family are descendants of a previous Accessory hero, and that insignia is supposed to be the scarf that the heroes weapon was never changed from."
"A scarf, huh?" Kurose certainly couldn't feel, nor see a scarf on him. Even as he spoke up, intending on asking if he was supposed to have a scarf or something, Karuk spoke up once more.
"We have arrived at your room sir hero. As mentioned previously, we will be sending someone to answer your questions soon enough."
"Thank you." Kurose said, opening the door.
Even as he turned around to say goodbye, he found the trio were already walking off. With a sigh, he stepped into his room.
Kurose sat in the room he was led to, thinking over what had happened so far, even as he waited for the person that Karuk said was going to answer any questions he had.
"Alright…" he spoke to himself. "I… I died, and I was summoned to another world. They said something about being on the brink of calamity or something, but I don't understand what's going on. They keep calling me a hero, but I certainly don't feel like a hero… what sort of hero falls over their own feet?"
Unbeknownst to him, the door opened slightly, even as he spoke up once more.
"In fact, what even makes me qualified to be a hero? I mean, I just like pretty things!" He shouted to himself.
"Sir hero? Are you ok?" A small voice spoke in a slightly scared tone..
"Huh?" Kurose turned his head to the entrance, trying to see whoever it was that spoke, slightly startled by their unannounced arrival.
"I… yeah, I'm fine. Are you the one they sent here to answer my questions?" He asked curiously.
"I am indeed." The voice spoke, fully stepping into the room.
"Whilst you are here, I will be your guide around this place, as well as being the one to answer any questions you may have."
"I see. What's your name?" He asked. He really didn't want to just start referring to them as person or something like that. He couldn't really make much about them.
Much like the three who had been in the room he had been summoned in, the person before him was wearing a blue hood, with a similar coloured mask, covering everything but their eyes.
"My name is Amarita, Accessory hero." The newly named Amarita spoke.
"Okay Amarita… can you tell me why everyone keeps calling me Accessory hero?" Kurose asked, slightly confused.
"Of course. We performed the ancient ritual as directed to summon a hero who would help protect our world from the calamity that is soon to happen. Since you are the one who has appeared, you are the hero that your weapon has chosen."
"Ok… but I'm seeing a lack of any sort of weapon. I can't exactly fight much without a weapon, can I?"
"I see… Do you not have an amulet or anything? Nothing of that kind on your body?" Amarita asked, concerned.
"An amulet? Why would I…" Kurose moved his hand to his chest, only to feel something small and round.
Looking down, he was greeted by a small blue gem, connected by some silver looking interlocking chains. Kurose lifted it up slightly, curious about it.
"Huh? Where the hell did this come from? I didn't even feel the metal on my neck. This is metal, right?" Kurose asked.
"I… am unsure, Accessory hero." Amarita spoke. "If you want that question answered, you would probably have to talk to a blacksmith. As for your other question, that is what proves you are the hero of the Accessory."
"I see… And why did it choose me? Why not give me some sort of proper weapon? What can I even do with just an amulet? And are there no other heroes?"
"We cannot say why the Amulet chose you, and we are unsure why it takes that form, but we can tell you of what past Accessory heroes have been able to do."
"So… There were past Accessory heroes? Nice to know I guess. I'll have to hold off on it for now. What about other heroes? Are there any more?"
Amarita nodded her head at that. "There is indeed two other heroes in this world, though they are considered lesser compared to you." Amarita spoke, nodding her head at that.
"The other two heroes are the Vambrace hero, who is currently managing his country to the south east, whilst the other hero, the Dagger hero, currently resides here. She was only chosen to wield it recently, so she is currently undergoing training. Our wish is for you to have her as a companion for your eventual journey."
"Alright, so there are two other heroes. What makes them so much lesser to me? Surely an actual weapon and… whatever a Vambrace is are more suited to fighting than an amulet or something, right?"
"It is uncertain why they were called lesser compared to the Accessory, but it has been said that the Accessory has a much higher potential than the other two, due to its wider range of options."
Kurose nodded at that. It made sense. An accessory could be plenty of things. An earring, an amulet, a ring. There were plenty of options.
But a dagger could only ever be a dagger, and a Vambrace… could only ever be a Vambrace? He really had to figure out what a Vambrace actually was.
"I guess that makes sense. So, what are the heroes' roles in this world? I can't imagine they are summoned for small things, right?"
"Almost correct." Amarita spoke. "The lesser heroes, the Dagger and Vambraces, can be summoned from another world, much as you were, or chosen from those who reside here. They are usually summoned in times of strife, such as a civil war, like the hero of the Vambrace was. However, the holy hero, which is in this case, you…"
She cleared her throat before continuing. "The holy hero can only be summoned when the world is in peril. Whether that be a guardian beast awakening, or as it is now, during the waves of calamity."
"I see, but what are these waves? Are they what's put your world on the brink of disaster?" Kurose asked curiously.
"It is unknown what the waves truly are. I apologise for not being able to give more information. All we know is that the waves grow stronger over time, up until they suddenly stop."
"So… it's something like a natural disaster? Has this happened before?" Kurose asked.
"Yes, they have. Each past Accessory hero was able to repel the waves successfully, with the help from the lesser legendary weapons. We hope that you can do the same."
"Wait, I'm expected to repel them successfully? How am I even supposed to fight with accessories? I don't even know how to fight!" Kurose shouted out, slightly panicking.
"That is why we will be training you for a short time. We will be teaching you the basics of magic here, whilst the dagger hero teaches you the basics about your weapon. Anything beyond that is up to you to learn."
Kurose deflated. He thought he wouldn't have to study any more, and yet, here he was, being forced to learn about magic and his weapon.
"Fine… when does the training start?"
"It will start in the morning. Have a good rest of the night, Accessory hero."
With that, Amarita walked out, and Kurose was left on his own.
"Wait… Just what time is it? Is someone going to wake me up? I still have so many more questions! Like what's a Vambrace!" He called out.

Hello! a new fic, before I'm even a decent amount into my other fic. Who would have guessed? Hopefully i can keep up with both of them lol. Dont expect any sort of consistency in uploading new chapters for either of them.
