I watched from my screen as they approached. It was a sickening anticipation knowing that your ship would be shot. It was only a matter of time. I had a sinking feeling in my stomach, I was just waiting in tension for them to make that first shot. And then, it happened. They shot their first missiles and within seconds, I felt the impact on the ship. Not long after they fired a few more. I braced myself for the impact, baring my teeth. It was hard just taking this and not retaliating, it was hard to be passive. The next missile they fired hit close enough to one of the engines. It was what I had been waiting for.
"Captain Gideon, turn off the outer engine on the port side. Slow down. Prepare for launch of the mobile weapons."
"Copy that."
I switched communications to the pilots. "Alright team, this is it. We are launching now. Remember the plan. I will go last. Stay sharp out there."
"Ten four." They responded.
I started to flip the gauges and switches within the suit. I am not going to hold back. This is life or death for these people. Soon, it was my turn to launch.
"GAT-X201, you are clear for immediate takeoff."
I turned on the Mirage Colloid. You better work this time.
"Roger that. This is Array Fletching, launching!" I pressed in the clutch and in a split second found myself floating in space.
I assessed the situation. My group was already in a V-formation and almost in contact with the other ship. The enemy ship had already launched a few of their own GINNs. It almost had completely stopped, it was slowly inching forward.
"Okay team, they have already sent out a few GINNs. I will expect there is more from where that came from. Remember, do not engage in direct combat and stay in pairs. Your advantage over the GINNs is your speed, use it to your advantage."
"Asylum to Sargon. Am I visible?"
"Negative Asylum, there is no trace of you." A woman responded.
Perfect.
I darted past the mobile armors and straight for the ship. Slipping past a GINN, I made a sprint for the engines with my saber in hand. With a long stride, I sliced horizontally a long gash in the ship's starboard side wing. The whole wing started to smoke.
"Okay, Sargon. Time to fly. Put that other engine back into action."
I started to swing to the top of the ship to destroy their railguns. I was successful in destroying the first, but as I went for the second, a GINN fired in front of my path. My Mirage Colloid had stopped working. Two Moebius flew by shooting at the GINN. Before the GINN could retaliate against the Moebius mobile armors, I striked at the abdomen, cutting it in half.
In the corner of my vision, I could see the Sargon starting to make their departure.
I sliced through the railgun in front of me and started making my way to the last main one.
One of the pilots came through the communications system. "Asylum, we've got company."
What? I looked over to where the main battle was taking place. There were new GINNs appearing on the outskirts of my radar –– but they weren't from this ship. Where are they coming from? I looked around to see not too far off another ZAFT ship was approaching, and in the far-off distance I could see the other ships approaching as well. How did it get here so quickly? Damn it! I didn't expect this.
The good news for us was that most of the GINNs from the first ship were either destroyed or immobilized. The ship was damaged and in no condition to pursue. We had at least exceeded in that regard.
I started to recalibrate everything in my head. I needed to get the GINNs attention, to bring them away from the Sargon and the rest of the pilots. Smiling to myself, I had found my solution. It was speed that I needed now. I put on my barrier shield and darted towards the other wing. Once I arrived, I put down my shield so I could take a stab at the engines. I was successful in destroying two of them. As I left the ship I could see in my peripherals columns of smoke. This ship won't be bothering the Sargon anymore. Now onto the next.
"Okay Sargon the other ships appear to have caught up quicker than I had anticipated. Keep moving forward with the plan, whatever you do, do not stop. You need to make it to the escort fleet."
"Copy that, Asylum."
It had appeared that from what I could tell none of the Moebius armours had been damaged yet, I wanted to keep it that way.
"Okay everyone, do not worry about that Bandit 1, just focus on getting the GINNs. Try to have everyone focus on one GINN at a time. Keep doing fly-bys, never stay still. Strike only when the chance arises. Check six. I don't want to hear of one loss."
I engaged in combat with a few GINNs, sometimes just making a fly-by while other times engaging in direct combat. On my radar I could see the approach of another five GINNs. I knew if we didn't pull out soon we would be swarmed.
It was time. The occasion came to make a dazzling performance. I put up my barrier shield and made for the main ship. I had already grabbed the attention of a few GINNs; they knew the damage I was capable of.
I tried to get a clear shot on the ship but the GINNs were in my way. I made a swipe at one of the GINNs, slicing off its sensor. While it was still in shock I destroyed its thruster, kicking it off to the side. I defeated the other two GINNs in my way simultaneously, and pressed on towards the ship. I fired at the brig with my multi-barrel.
The five GINNs I had seen on my screen earlier had finally arrived at the outskirts of the battlefield. I could instantly feel something was different about those GINNs. It wasn't good. A group of Moebius's tried to engage them but were instantly shot down, they hadn't even stood a chance. I screamed out as I saw the explosion. I couldn't have even helped them, I was already overwhelmed as it was. I could start to feel the blood coursing and pumping through my veins. The battle was starting to get bloody.
It was time to pull out.
"Alright, that it is enough everyone. Pull back, return to the Sargon. I repeat, return to the Sargon."
I slashed the leg off another GINN.
"Copy that."
I saw the group of five try to pursue the quick Moebius armours, but the Moebius fighters were quicker, which I was thankful for. I didn't want those GINNs to follow them all the way to the Sargon though. I fired at the GINNs to get their attention. It had worked.
Instead of engaging them in direct combat though, I flew closer to the flagship with my saber in hand. Dodging the fire of one of the railguns, I sliced it off and stood where the railgun once was.
"Come at me, boys."
By now, the Sargon had noticed that something wasn't right.
"Array, what are you doing? Why aren't you pulling back with the rest of them?"
"Captain, I told you if you followed my plan you would escape. This is part of it. You need someone to hold them back, or else they will keep pursuing and swarm you. Don't you dare send anyone out after them. Tell Cara," I paused for a moment. "Tell her- I am sorry." I shut off the communication airwave.
It is just me against the world now. I sighed. Let's do this. Let's make sure ZAFT remembers the Asylum.
The five GINNs were now upon me. I braced myself for combat.
