Expect angst! I hope you enjoy ;)
Summary – Morgan confronts Greg after she finds out he use to have feelings for Sara, but will Morgan let her jealousy get the better of her?
Old Crush
Morgan walked around the lab with a broad smile. It was the smile of someone who was in love, and she was so hopelessly in love with Greg Sanders. The couple had been dating for two months, and the romance was still blossoming to the point where Morgan wondered if she could ever be more in love with Greg than she already was.
To celebrate their two months together, Greg wanted to cook Morgan a meal since he had the night off, and so Morgan was going around to his apartment after work; she couldn't wait to spend more time with him and she missed him terribly.
Morgan went into the locker room where she found Nick just about to leave for a case. The older CSI found her smile infectious, and grinned back at Morgan.
"I know that face" Nick said as Morgan went to her locker "What have you guys got planned tonight? Or don't I want to know" he teased.
Morgan just smirked at him "Greg's making us dinner" she replied simply.
"Ah, I knew he was really a romantic" Nick said "That player surfer dude was just a façade"
"Player?" Morgan asked with an amused smirk; that didn't sound like Greg.
"Don't take me seriously" Nick said with a wave of dismissal. "It's pretty clear that Greg's never loved someone as much as he loves you" the Texan claimed, and Morgan smiled at the thought. "I remember how nervous he was before he asked you out for the first time; I hadn't seen him that nervous since he asked out…" Nick trailed off and his eyes widened as he realised what he'd done.
"Since he asked out who?" Morgan asked, but she was just curious. "C'mon, Nick, I know Greg's obviously been out with other girls before, I'm not going to freak out" she assured him.
"Okay, well…"Nick started nervously; why did he have to open his mouth? "Funny story actually…" he said with a nervous laugh "Greg asked Sara out once like ten years ago…"
Morgan paused and turned to look at Nick. "Greg and Sara?" she asked.
"Yeah, but nothing happened!" Nick tried to convince her "Sara turned him down…actually, I don't think she even realised Greg was asking her on a date…"
"So, Greg liked Sara, but she didn't like him back?" Morgan asked.
"I guess not romantically, no…" Nick said "Not that Greg really liked Sara in that way either! It was just a crush, that's all" Nice going, Stokes he berated himself.
"Right…" Morgan said sounding a little distant and in thought. "I erm… I have to go" she said.
"Okay" Nick said quietly; he didn't think he could feel any more guilty.
With that, Morgan left, and she didn't really know what to think.
Everything's fine, you're just over reacting Morgan tried to assure herself as she walked up the stairs to Greg's apartment. The rest of her shift appeared to have gone quickly, that could have been because she was distracted by this new information about Greg and Sara. What if he still has feelings for her? Morgan wondered as she nervously bit her bottom lip. No, no Nick said it was just a crush… it was an inner battle.
It wasn't until a few moments later she realised she was stood outside Greg's door. Shaking her head to regain some focus, Morgan pulled out the key Greg had recently given her and opened the door. Greg was instantly there to greet her, huge smile on his face, and Morgan felt her heart flutter, although there was a part of her that wondered if Sara had ever gotten the same smile.
"Hey, baby" Greg said chirpily as he wrapped his arms around Morgan's waist and pecked her cheek. "How was work?" he asked.
"Oh…fine" Morgan said dully.
Greg noted how she didn't seem as into the contact as she usually did either. He frowned, a mixture of confusion and concern.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"I just said, fine" Morgan replied more snappish than she probably should have and then brushed past him, heading to the kitchen.
"Sure seems like it" Greg said sarcastically as he followed her, but determined sarcasm wouldn't be the best approach. "C'mon, Morgan, tell me what's up" he said gently.
Morgan sighed as she leant against the counter and placed a hand on her forehead "Nothing, it's nothing" she persisted "I'm sorry" she said with a small but weary smile.
Greg sighed too, but with much more distain. "Please, just tell me" he urged as he took Morgan's hands lightly in his "I won't be mad, or do anything crazy, I just can't stand to see you upset."
Morgan looked at the sadness evident in her boyfriend's eyes and determined he was being genuine. However, now the niggling feeling wouldn't go away if that's perhaps how he looked after Sara rejected him.
"Okay…" Morgan said looking down at the floor "It's just that… I've been informed that you used to have a crush on Sara, and that you asked her out once" When she was only answered by silence, she looked up to see Greg with the confused look back on his face.
"That's it?" he asked.
Morgan looked at him just as confused "That's it?" she repeated a little insidiously. "I'm your girlfriend and I find out that you used to be in love with a woman who you still work with. Can't you understand why that's a bit… worrying for me?"
Greg was getting just as annoyed himself. "No, I can't" he said folding his arms "Like you said, use to, and I was never in love with Sara it was just a dumb crush!" he tried to defend himself "And besides that, Sara is your friend, and I'm your boyfriend, I can't believe you don't trust us!"
"Do you ever wonder what it would have been like if it had worked out between the two of you?" Morgan asked seriously, Greg didn't respond. "Do you?!" she pressed.
"The thought has crossed my mind, yes!" Greg responded highly frustrated and throwing his arms up in exasperation. "But not since I met you, I have never felt this strongly about anyone, let alone Sara, as I do about you"
Morgan bit her bottom lip nervously and there were tears in her eyes. She hadn't wanted the evening to turn out like this, she hadn't wanted to let this get to her, but Morgan had been let down by guys for similar reasons before, and she really wanted to believe Greg was different.
"How do I know I can believe you?" she asked quietly.
Greg scoffed "Because I love you!" he exclaimed "And if you are letting this get to you, you clearly don't love me! It's petty jealously, Morgan" he bit.
Morgan's eyes narrowed in anger, her earlier sense of guilt forgotten. "Petty… "She repeated with disgust "I have every reason to…"
"No, no you don't!" Greg argued. "What has Sara ever done to make you doubt her? This isn't fair on her either! I didn't get all pissed off after I found out about you kissing Hodges…"
There was a sudden pause. Morgan looked in shock and for a moment her mouth moved but no words came out; she didn't know Greg knew. Greg just looked her expectantly.
"That was before we were even together" Morgan finally retorted "And my father had just been shot, okay, I was feeling scared and vulnerable…"
"But it still happened" Greg said more calm now "but I don't bring it up or spend every minute of the day wondering if you actually have feelings for Hodges, because I trust you, Morgan." His voice was growing weaker and Morgan could see the tears in his eyes. "And if you can't even trust me…then what are you even doing here?"
Morgan closed her mouth and looked down at the ground. Again, she didn't know what to do. Her heart was screaming for her to tell Greg she did trust and she loved him, but her head was telling her to take time to think.
"I have to go" she finally said, her voice cracking, and Greg didn't even try to stop her as she turned to leave.
Both of them let the silent tears begin to fall.
Morgan wasn't entirely sure how it came down to this, but just an hour after leaving Greg, she found herself outside Sara's house. Morgan tried to compose herself, but the mascara had started to run down her cheeks and she kept sniffling now and again. The CSI was hesitant at first, but eventually she found the courage to knock on the door.
Sara answered with in moments, and she looked confused and somewhat worried to find the younger woman looking so distraught on her doorstep.
"Hey, Morgan, come in" she said gently, and stepped aside so Morgan could enter. "Take a seat" Sara said as she led Morgan to the sofas. The younger woman complied, but remained silent. "What's wrong?" Sara asked as she sat beside Morgan.
"I just had a fight with Greg" she said as she wiped her eyes.
"Really, you guys?" Sara said in surprise; Greg and Morgan were the most loved up couple she'd ever seen. "What did you fight about?" she asked.
"You" Morgan said quietly, leaving the older woman even more in shock.
"M-me?!" Sara stuttered.
"I know Greg use to have a crush on you, or was maybe in love with you" Morgan said quietly. She was surprised by the look of utter shock on Sara's face.
"He was what?" the older woman said quietly. "I didn't even…" Sara trailed off.
Okay so maybe way back when she first started working at the lab, she and Greg had flirted, but they'd all flirted, she had no idea Greg actually had a crush on her… suddenly Sara felt really guilty. She knew what that felt like with Grissom after all, pining for someone but them being totally oblivious.
Morgan frowned "Yeah, he asked you out?"
Sara's eyes widened as she suddenly thought "That was him asking me out?" she asked in shock.
"Yeah" Morgan said "I talked to Greg, he said it was just a crush and I want to believe him, but I thought I should talk to you first"
Sara remained silent for a few moments. "Well… personally I've never had any romantic feelings for Greg" she said "He's my best friend, but he's always just been like a little brother to me. Although I feel kinda bad now…but I assure you nothing has or ever will happen between us. He's so in love with you, Morgan, and nothing is ever going to change that"
Morgan smiled at her in appreciation "Thanks, I'm sorry, I guess my jealousy got a little out of control"
"It's understandable" Sara said with a reassuring smile "But I think it's really Greg you should be saying sorry to"
"Yeah, of course" Morgan said as she stood up "I just hope I'm not too late"
Of course Greg had let Morgan in when she had returned to his apartment. They sat on the sofa a little awkwardly and Greg remained quiet as Morgan tried to find the words.
"You don't know how sorry I am" the female CSI finally said "of course I trust you, and I love you with all my heart. I'm sorry I reacted so terribly and I made you doubt that I trust you, I trust you with my life, and Sara is my friend and I trust her too. You were right, I was jealous, and I should never have let it get the better of me, I'm sorry and I want to be with you more than anything"
Greg bit his bottom lip a little hesitantly, but he knew he couldn't resist for long.
"Okay" he said quietly "Okay, I forgive you"
"Thank you" Morgan whispered with a small smile, before the pair was sharing a delicate kiss.
I hope this wasn't too OOC, I can't imagine Greg and Morgan ever fighting really XD I like writing moments between Sara and Morgan as well, I don't feel like there are many on the show.
Keep prompts coming! I'm actually lacking a little for Morganders ones (for a change) but really any prompt or pairing would be awesome :)
Please Review! Xx
