Summary – Morgan is pregnant and doesn't know how to tell Greg he's the father. Sara offers some help, but not in the way she was expecting… Morganders!
Pregnancy Scandal
Morgan didn't know what to do. She'd taken the test at work because she couldn't stand the uncertainty any longer. Those two minutes of waiting for the results had been the most nerve-racking of her life; her heart had been practically leaping out of her chest and her hands trembled with fear and anticipation.
And then the result came in. It was positive, there was no doubt about that, but Morgan didn't know whether to smile or cry. She was pregnant with Greg's baby. But they had only been going out for 6 months; they couldn't possibly be having a child together yet! Morgan kept looking back at the test, double, triple, quadruple checking, but of course the result stayed the same.
How was she going to tell Greg? They hadn't even talked about getting married yet, let alone having kids! What if Greg didn't want children? What if this just scared him or pushed him away? Morgan was feeling scared herself. She didn't want to lose Greg, but she wouldn't give up her baby either. Morgan had never been sure if she even wanted children herself, but she would step up the plate and she would love this child; it was a part of her and she would never let down her baby.
Morgan wondered if she was just over reacting. Surely Greg would be happy, excited, enthusiastic…he was about most things. Plus, he was the kindest, most caring and understanding man Morgan had ever me, perfect father material in her eyes. However, the female CSI couldn't help the trivial feeling that there was an off chance Greg would not take the news well.
Morgan went and sat in the break room, hoping it would be quiet in there so she could think about what to do. Obviously, she had to tell Greg, she just didn't know when and how would be the best to do it. The CSI sighed heavily and buried her head in her hands as she sat at the table. This was not how she was expecting things to go. Just the thought of it all and how much her life was going to change started to get to Morgan, and eventually she allowed herself to cry.
"Morgan?" a quiet voice said behind her as if they worried they'd scare her away.
Morgan looked up and wiped her eyes feeling embarrassed; she was usually so in control of herself and she hated feeling so vulnerable, but she wasn't exactly sure how else to feel right then.
"Hey, Sara" she finely spoke to the concerned looking woman.
Sara moved forward and sat beside Morgan. The older woman didn't think herself to be the most comforting of people when it came to discussing emotions, but Morgan was her friend and Sara didn't like seeing her so distraught. The women had connected on their level of independence and strength, so Sara was concerned Morgan appeared to broken.
"What's up?" Sara asked.
"I...I'm in a really big mess, and I don't know what to do" Morgan replied looking down at her shaky hands.
"What kind of mess?" Sara gently pressed. Morgan hesitated and started to fiddle with something in her pocket. "Morgan, you can tell me, I promise I won't judge you or…"
"I'm pregnant" Morgan blurted out; better to do it quick and fast. She looked at Sara trying to read her response, but the older woman just looked aghast.
"U-uh…" Sara stuttered not sure what to say; she certainly hadn't been excepting that.
"Need proof" Morgan mumbled a she pulled the test out of her pocket and put it on the table. "I didn't wanna get rid of it here in case someone found it" she explained.
"This is…wow" Sara said; it wasn't often she was rendered speechless.
"It is Greg's, just so you know" Morgan thought she should make that clear "that's not why I'm so worried"
"Of course, I would never accuse you of cheating on Greg" Sara assured her. "I know you love him, and he loves you. I'm sure he'll be thrilled"
"We've only been together six months, Sara!" Morgan exclaimed, the panic evident in her voice. "We don't even live together yet, how can we be having a baby?"
"But you were friends for almost two years before you were even together" Sara pointed out "Surely that time counts…"
"Did it count when you started dating Grissom?" Morgan asked.
Sara sighed "Touché. Maybe I'm not the best person to be getting advice from"
"No, I'm sorry" Morgan said rubbing her face in her hand "I didn't mean anything by it…"
"It's okay" Sara said with a small smile. "I get that you might be concerned but…I still think Greg will be really excited. He's ready for this, trust me, I've known him fourteen years and he's grown up so much it's insane."
"But what if he's not done growing?" Morgan asked. "What if you comes to me tomorrow like, hey Morgs, you know what I fancy doing? Ditching Vegas and going to Egypt or someplace so I can be a historian instead! I can't just tie him down with a baby"
Sara couldn't help but laugh. "Okay, firstly Greg loves his job and he's worked too hard to just give it up like that. Secondly, he wouldn't just make a big life decision like that without consulting you first. He wants to be with you. If you wanted to stay he'd stay, if you wanted to go he'd go. Greg would go to the end of the Earth for you"
"Well, I kinda got pregnant without consulting him. That's pretty life changing" Morgan mumbled.
Sara quirked an eyebrow "Yeah, but I think he kinda had something to do with that…"
"Change the subject" Morgan said feeling embarrassed again, but Sara just smiled at her. "I just don't know how I'm going to tell Greg, I'm so worried about what he'll say or do"
"You have to tell him, Morgan" the older woman encouraged. "You may be surprised if Greg reacts well to it, but I'm telling you, I'd be even more surprised if he reacted badly…"
"If who reacted badly?" Greg asked as he entered the room.
The two female CSIs looked wide eyed at each other. "Erm..." Morgan said, frozen and not knowing what to do.
Greg frowned with confusion "Is that a pregnancy test?" he said studying the object forgotten on the table.
"Yes…" Sara said slowly and Morgan was giving her a 'help me' look. The older CSI sighed; it was the only thing she could think to do "It's mine…" she muttered.
Morgan let out a breath she hadn't even been holding. 'Thank you' she mouthed.
"It's positive…" Greg said in disbelief. "Sara, you're pregnant!?"
"Yes?" Sara said, although it came out more of a question than a statement. "But you can't tell anyone!" she quickly added.
"What…when…" Greg stuttered. "Who's the father?!"
"I…I can't tell you" Sara said as she bit her bottom lip.
"Why? Do I know him?" Greg asked. Then he gasped and his eyes grew wide "Is It Nick!?" he practically whispered.
Sara frowned "What? No!" she said in disbelief.
"Are you sure?" Greg said tilting his head thoughtfully "there is really a lot of unrequited tension between you sometimes…"
"Greg, I have not slept with Nick" Sara said bluntly.
"Okay, okay" Greg said raising hand defensively. "Well , who is he then?"
Sara shrugged "Just some one night stand"
"One night stand? That doesn't sound like you…" Greg frowned.
"What, I can't go out and have fun every once in a while?" Sara asked accusingly.
"I didn't say..." Greg started.
"Look, I could really use your support right now, Greg" Sara interrupted, hoping to try and make the role more convincing.
"You're right, I'm sorry" Greg said with a sympathetic smile. "I'm gunna be here for you one hundred percent, you won't have to be alone in this" he assured Sara, rubbing her arm gently "Anything at all you need, just ask, we'll help with anything, right, Morgan?"
"Right…" Morgan said quietly; she was amazed at Greg's willingness to help out with a pretend baby which wasn't even his.
"Thanks, Greg" Sara said with a small smile; she felt bad for lying to him, but she could see Morgan seemed to be considering his words deeply.
"Well, I gotta get going" Greg said "but if you need to talk just call" he told Sara and then went to kiss Morgan on the cheek "I'll see you later, baby"
"Yeah, see you" Morgan said faking a smile, and he left.
"You owe me big time" Sara made clear.
"I know, I know, thank you" Morgan said sincerely. "I'll set things straight, tonight, I'll tell him tonight" she said with a definite nod.
"You better, or else we'll have a lot to answer for" Sara warned her.
Morgan nodded, and there was silence for a moment before she spoke up. "The baby wouldn't even be Greg's…yet it sounded like he was willing to do so much…"
Sara smiled "I told you, Greg will never let you down"
"I know" Morgan said "And that's one of the many reasons I love him."
At the end of their shift, Morgan was sat in the locker room nervously bobbing her legs up and down as she waited for Greg. This was it, she was going to tell him right here, right now, no putting it off any longer and risk she and Sara getting found out.
"Can you believe this thing with Sara?" Greg started with a hushed tone as soon as he entered the room "I really wouldn't think she'd ever… you know"
Morgan sighed and stood up. "Actually, that's kind of what I wanted to talk to you about"
"Why?" Greg asked with a frown. His eyes suddenly widened. "You don't think I'm the father do you? Morgan I'd never… I mean I was just trying to be friend..!" he started in panic.
"Ssh, I know, I know calm down" Morgan said taking hold of his hands. "It's just...I have something to tell you. A pretty huge something actually" she confessed.
"Sweetie, was is it?" Greg asked quietly, suddenly very worried when Morgan just looked down at the ground and sniffed. "Hey, it's okay" Greg said gently as he lifted Morgan's head and wiped a fallen tear on her cheek "You can tell me anything" he said truly.
Morgan gulped and looked Greg directly in the eyes, she had to be honest and she had to see his first reaction; Greg always let his emotions show in his eyes…his beautiful , happy eyes. Focus, Morgan.
"Sara's not pregnant…that test was mine" Morgan spoke so quietly she wondered if she'd said it aloud at first, but she felt Greg's body tense as the realisation hit him. "I'm the one who's pregnant, we're having a baby" Morgan said more to clarify for herself than Greg.
"That's…" Greg started and his eyes flickered around a bit as he tried to find the right words; Morgan waited with baited breath. Suddenly Greg broke out into the broadest grin. "That's absolutely incredible, amazing, brilliant!" he pulled Morgan into a tight hug, and this time Morgan allowed tears of joy to overtake her.
"I'm so glad you think so" she admitted "I was so worried you'd just freak out and walk away…"
"Never" Greg said firmly, pulling back a little to look in her eyes "I'd never leave you or our baby, I love you, and I love our baby already" he said, tears of happiness now present in his eyes too. "I wouldn't want anyone else to be the mother of my child"
"We love you too, and you're going to be the best dad" Morgan said sincerely.
"And you the best mom" Greg said pulling Morgan close again. "We're going to have a baby" he whispered again to make it seem more real. "And I can't wait"
Morgan smiled "me either"
