Nearly 1,000 years before the fall of Lescatie , on the island of Zebes:

"To anyone reading this, this is Williams the third, scientist, formerly scholar, on the diplomatic mission to the island of Zebes. To whoever finds this, this is the last record I shall leave, before we are taken by the horrors that have unwittingly been created here."

"Fifty years ago, about ten before the Monster lord took over, the Chozo came, from the stars and beyond, something that I once would have completely declared as heretic, as I believed only the heavens existed up there. I have since changed my mind, but I ask that you not destroy this record in rage, as the information deeper within lies the key to our salvation, or doom."

"They came in a streak of blazing light one night, visible from all the great cities in the world, lighting up the sky for a single moment, before nightfall once again returned. The order sent out a squadron of order soldiers to investigate in order to find what we believed to be a blessing from the chief goddess. They followed the trail of smoke, leading them to an island cluster west of the continent. After sailing and landing on the island, which was called "Zebes" later on, we made first contact with the Chozos."

"The Chozo were bird-like, yet humanoid in form. Many appeared to be old in age, and wore simple robes, yet also wore pieces of unidentifiable metal. Their origin was from a giant metal box, with glowing lights and odd symbols attached to the sides. They controlled metal golems of immense speed and power, for when the troops arrived, they had carved nearly an entire city block in stone, with intricate detailing and layout."

"While the men were wary, they did have to come up with a plan of attack, for the Chozo approached the group first. They explained that they were here not to invade and conquer, but to learn about everything in this world. In essence, they were scholars, here to study the plants, animals, monsters, and cultures of the species that existed. With their intentions clear, the order soldiers reported back that the Chozo were not enemies of humanity. Instead, they were our new ally."

"While the knowledge of a new intelligent species soon reached the ears of all, many species were more wary than others. The elves had no interest in dealing with formal interactions with the Chozo, while the dwarves practically swarmed the traveler paths, hoping to see with their own eyes the unique metals and creations the Chozo had built. But while the entire human world had gone into a new age of seemingly endless prosperity, darkness had begun to form within the Monster realms. The church sent a hero, blessed by the chief goddess, to deal with this rising threat, but none knew the scale of the disaster that was to be realized…"

"Through an alliance with the Chozo (Though they later told me that they had intended to have a more neutral stance in this world, it worked out in a more or less beneficial misunderstanding), humanity began to advance at a rate that none would have believed less then a few years prior.

Resources once thought useless were shown to have extraordinary properties if used correctly. While they never showed how the machines and devices that they used to get here worked, I believe it was not out of malice, but due to the fact that most humans might not have the concept to understand it, much less replicate it. The only blot of ink in view was the demon realm, which we thought would soon be taken care of, though we were terribly mistaken…"

"In a shocking revelation, the hero betrayed both the chief goddess and humanity in one swift and unexpected blow, siding with the monster lord, having been seduced to her side. There, in a single day, the entire world was changed. Monsters were changed into depraved, female-like humanoids, with the innate ability to corrupt the land and people, potentially killing off humanity in a two thousand years, perhaps less. Already many human realms were lost and replaced by monster realms, with the inhabitants consuming themselves in an endless cycle of fornication and lust."

"I was not in my hometown at the time of the change, which I sadly learned was taken and converted into a depraved shell of its former self. Instead, I had been chosen by the order to do a formal knowledge exchange, with humans learning directly from the Chozo, and the Chozo visiting the mainland to observe our cultures and homeland. I did not return back after receiving word of what had happened, and both the order and Chozo agreed to indefinitely extend the duration of our exchange. I was assigned to learn as much information the Chozo possessed as possible, while the Chozo at the mainland were told to help the towns that they resided to defend against monsters, even in their new forms."

"We were visited by a rogue group of monsters, which attempted to corrupt the Chozo and soldiers who responded to the threat, but they were defeated after a lengthy battle. It appears that monsters have not only changed in appearance, but also in intelligence and strength. This made some of the Chozo uneasy, as they believed that the new monster should be given a chance at living alongside humanity. This thought quickly vanished when a succubus that was being sent to the research station escaped and corrupted a Chozo female, drastically changing her appearance and thoughts. The succubus was recaptured, but both her and the corrupted Chozo were sent to be analyzed and researched. What they found was horrifying, as the very D.N.A of the female Chozo was altered, creating a 'connection' to the Monster lord, now widely called the Mamano lord."

"The Chozo immediately began working on a way of either removing the connection to the Mamano lord's power, or removing the corrupting essence that caused the change in the first place. It was during these years that I learned about the idea of 'energy'. Holy energy is counted by demonic energy, which balances each other out. But they both contain energy, which is a constant that remains. So theoretically, there should be a way to extract that energy, leaving behind both the holy and demonic aspect of it. Most order members would have called it heresy. I would have called it heresy. But in my time here, I had learned things that both contradicted the word of the chief chief goddess and spoke against it. My knowledge from working with the Chozo was both a blessing and a curse, as I felt I was no longer the devoted believer I once was all those years ago. But still I kept working, in order to end this plague of depravity, once and for all"

"Our troubles began with our first breakthrough. After nearly ten years of research, development, prototyping, and failures, we had created a device capable of both removing and adding D.N.A strains from a person, making this invention one of the only known ways of removing the curse that is now known as monsterization. After multiple successful tests, slicing the genes of multiple animals into completely different species, We moved onto the true reason for this device, the monsterized Chozo. After properly setting the machine up for the operation, we transported the Chozo in question into the chamber, using extreme precautions in order to avoid an outbreak. While the order soldiers and robots have been keeping the monsters off the island, it is only a matter of time that they attempt to take the island, due to their views of inhabiting what appears to be an abandoned structure and city."

"We started the device, and waited for the results of the operation to conclude. While the device is nothing to scoff at, the time it takes to remove a status such as monsterization is estimated to be weeks or months, so while we continued our involvement in reviewing the data, we were also working on a last-resort weapon to defend ourselves with. In order to defend against the mamano as a whole, we were working on a special project, one that was designed to see if it was possible to extract just energy from a mamano, and not become corrupted with demonic energy. While originally just a side thought, it quickly became an unofficial project, using mamano captured from raids. I had hoped the research would yield results, but I never expected the events to come here on Zebes…"

"Upon completion of the demonic extraction, the results were successful, and the female Chozo was purged of the corruption. Using the demonic energy that were removed as a result of the extraction, we were able to successfully remove the pure energy from the substance, turning what used to be a black, goopy, almost liquidy manifestation of demonic energy into a brittle, fragile and dried up shrivel husk of a ball, almost like the cracked ground of a desert. Our next test with the D.N.A machine, now called the body adaptation machine, was to attempt to revert a monster back into its original form. For this purpose, we picked an ogre that had been detained after a failed raid for research purposes years ago, having been put in suspended cryogenic stasis. We chose the subject due to the drastic physical differences that would guarantee confirmation of success. We also started official work on the anti-mamano project, which would protect us from future attacks through use of a biological creature capable of absorbing demonic energy without causing monsterization to itself."

"We did it. We successfully severed the connection between an actual monster and the mamano lord. The creature is now back to its original pre-mamano form, with male physical body and lack of immediate need for intercourse, it is 100% a pre-mamano monster. While more testing, research, and development is needed, I do believe that we have developed a way to defeat the mamano once and for all. At the rate we are moving, production of the anti-mamano project has slowed, yet has still continued, most likely as a backup plan in the event of a catastrophic disaster. To celebrate this achievement, we will take a much needed week off, though I suspect that most of my fellow researchers would prefer to continue our contributions to the effort, I will be taking a well-deserved rest."

"The de-mamanofied subject, called subject no.012, is not devoid of intelligence. It appears that not all monsters were mindless creatures, though the ones near my village in my childhood were always savage and violent. He is contained, though we have had to make a stronger cell after he smashed the previous two in a fit of rage. Curiously, he is not mad at us, the mamano lord, who he appears to absolutely despise due to what he views as 'a complete violation of the strength of monsters'. He is no longer affected by other affected mamano, making him immune. Unfortunately, he also hates mamano, as prior attempts of interaction with mamano have gone fairly violent, often requiring a clean-up bot to remove the bloodstains from the floor and walls. He also appears to have quite a sadistic streak, tearing the legs off of the mamano begging for mercy. He is to be placed in suspended stasis after a few more tests."

"We have made a grave mistake. While we assumed that the mamano lord would not notice the connection between the corrupted Chozo sever, we did not take into account the ogre's connection severing, and this did two things. One, tell our location to the mamano lord. And two, make her very, very, angry. We got word that a monster army fleet was being sent to Zebes. As it turns out, that meant the entire monster army fleet. Most of our soldiers either attempted to drown themselves swimming to the mainland, or attempted to end their lives right there and then. The only thing that stopped them was the Chozo, who sent them to hide out the battle in their mothership, the metal box I saw when I first arrived. Most of the human researchers were sent in as well, except for less than 5, including me. It was time for our back-up, now more than ever."

"They took us to the biological development sector, where we were told to help with the final preparations, and to hunker down when they arrived. I understood immediately when the machine we had worked on hummed to life for the first time, along with the violent crackling of electricity, followed by the cries of something that I, along with everyone else in the world, had never heard. It was glowing green, with 4 red dots-like nucleus inside, along with toothy maws at the bottom. A metroid. The very first of its kind, as the machine continued to make them add an increased rate."

"The metroid was a creature designed to drain the demonic energy from mamano, and convert it into pure energy. This would leave the monsters as dried, shriveled corpses, which would turn to dust the moment the husk was even brushed against. It was virtually indestructible, was nimble and fast, moving through the air effortlessly, and made them the perfect mamano killer. However, they are not without precautions. We installed a failsafe in their D.N.A, giving them a weakness against cold environments along with a gene which renders them unable to attack those with Chozo D.N.A, which explains why us five are allowed to stay: We volunteered during the prototype phase of the body adaptation machine, by inserting Chozo D.N.A into our body, resulting in our miniscule increase in strength, stamina, and even height. The battle to come is approaching fast, so I will record this after the results of the battle, be I monsterized or safe."

"I don't believe it. The entire fleet is gone, reduced to dust by the metroids. When they saw the metroids, their first instinct was to attempt to monsterize them using demonic silver, which was an immediate mistake, as the metroids were immediately drawn to the largest source of demonic energy. Everything after that turned into a massacre, with monsters begging for salvation as the metroids drained them into dried husks, attacking anything with demonic energy in it, even the fruits and silver, were all drained. They didn't have a chance to freeze any of them, and the sheer numbers of them destroyed most of the fleet, with less than ten fleeing in terror. The power of the metroids is absolute, but also terrifying and dangerous. I know this is not the last time we shall use them, yet I can't help but think of how easy it would be to defeat the mamano lord with these…"

"It's over. The station is lost. Not by the mamano, but the metroids. They evolved, and started attacking everyone. The mothership left, leaving the few Chozo and humans who couldn't reach it on time stranded. Including me. I don't blame them. The only thing worse than us being left here to die is the mamano gaining all of our research, using it to continue their deprived methods upon this world. I am holded up in the freezer unit, where the metroids don't dare venture. I will die here, this is certain. I have no regrets, but I do have one last job. My research, no, our research, cannot end here. There are Chozo on the mainland, this I am certain of. I have seen and learned enough to operate the computer to send the data back to the mainland, along with a warning not to return. I don't know the state of the mainland, but according to the messenger bird reports, some cities still stand. I will attempt to send my data to lescatie, which to my knowledge, should be strong enough to fend off monsters for centuries. Once again, this is the last Williams, last scientist of Zebes, and devoted follower of the Goddess."

Present day, island of Zebes:

A person in yellow and orange armor, along with a green weapon on their arm, and a red helmet that seemed to blend seamlessly with the armor, closed the journal of the dried skeleton that it once belonged to, still holding onto the computer's speaker, sending his message in his final moments. While his journal once held valuable information, time had left its mark, destroying the majority of the records, leaving only a bit of the beginning and the ending intact. A thunk in the distance snapped the stranger back to reality.

Returning to the task at hand, the mysterious person held their cannon-like arm in a defensive position, as they slowly exited the room. No time to think. Got a job to do.

Samus Aran, renowned bounty hunter, was on the job.
