A/N: Hello chaps! Yes, another story has arrived, and it's another Miami Crossover! Firstly though, thanks for reviewing the last story, Morganders is still going strong! This one is for starfire25 who suggested a story where it turns out Greg and Ryan are brothers. I really enjoyed writing this one and I wish it was canon XD Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
Summary – When Greg went to visit Ryan in Miami he was not expecting to find out the biggest revelation of his life so far. Xover!
Long Lost Brothers
Greg and Ryan had been friends for the past three years and had managed to maintain a strong bond despite the fact they rarely got to meet face to face. However, they made sure that at least once a year Ryan would visit Greg in Vegas and vice versa. That spring it was Greg's turn to go and visit Ryan at the luxurious beaches of Miami.
Ryan had been very excited to see Greg again and couldn't wait to tell him about his recent promotion to a level 3 CSI. Greg had been a great help in getting Ryan's confidence up and was a source of knowledge to aid Ryan get his degree in genetics.
Ryan had been preparing his apartment all morning when there was a knock at the door. Ryan's OCD meant he had to pat the bed down one last time before darting to the door eagerly.
"Hey!" the younger man said with a smile as he opened the door to find Greg, suitcase at his side and sunglasses already perched perfectly on the edge of his spiked hair.
"Hey, man" Greg said just as happily, and they shared a quick hug before Ryan stepped aside to let Greg in.
"How was the flight?" Ryan asked.
"Oh, boring" Greg said with a huff "I really hate 'em"
"Well then, I think I know what you need" Ryan said as he headed to the kitchen and pulled two bottles of beer out the fridge.
"Mmm, you know me well" Greg said approvingly.
Greg took his luggage to the room and then he and Ryan sat on the sofa catching up and paying some attention to a baseball game on the TV. Only half an hour after Greg arrived there was another knock on the door. Ryan frowned, not sure who it could be, but then got up to answer it anyway.
"Oh, hey dad" he said stepping aside to let the man through who looked like an older version of Ryan.
"Hey, kiddo" Andrew Wolfe smiled at his son "I just wanted to give you these back, you left them at my house yesterday" he said handing Ryan a pair of sunglasses.
"Thanks, I was looking for these" Ryan said and turned to face Greg who had stood to greet Ryan's father. "Dad, this is my friend Greg Sanders" the younger man said.
Andrew seemed to have a wide eyed and unnerved look on his face as he looked at Greg.
"Um, hello" Greg said a little conscious of the man's stare, but he politely went to shake Andrew's hand, although Andrew seemed to ignore him.
"Dad…" Ryan said sharply, embarrassed his father was being so rude.
"Ry, I need to talk to you outside for a moment, now" Andrew stressed before heading out of the apartment.
Ryan looked shocked and he turned to Greg who appeared just as confused.
"Was it something I said?" Greg asked sheepishly.
"No you didn't do anything, I'll sort this out" Ryan said "Sorry, Greg" he added before going after his father.
Andrew had moved to the end of the hall so that Greg was out of earshot, and when Ryan finally reached him he was just feeling angrier.
"What the hell was that about?!" Ryan exclaimed.
"How long have you known that man?" Andrew asked ignoring his son's frustration.
"He's not just that man, he's my friend" Ryan snapped back "and you can't treat him like that…"
Andrew sighed and ran a hand down his face "He's more than just your friend, Ryan"
Ryan frowned and suddenly lost his fight. "What do you mean?" the CSI asked in a tone thick with confusion.
"He's…he's your brother" Andrew said as if he could hardly believe it himself, but it was true, that other man in there was his eldest son.
Ryan thought he had misheard at first, he was in utter shock. He and Greg met by coincidence nearly four years ago, and now he was being told one of his best friends was also his big brother! Sure, they joked about how strange it was that they looked so much alike and how they had similar interests in science, but they'd never thought there was a real reason for it…
"Greg is… Greg's my brother?" Ryan managed to stutter as he overcame the initial shock. Andrew nodded, and then Ryan got angry again. "You better start explaining" he said.
Andrew sighed "It was a few months before I met your mother; I had this one night stand with a woman in California, Rose Hojem"
"That's Greg's mother" Ryan breathed; this was all so unreal, it couldn't be true…but there did seem to be evidence to support it.
"She got pregnant with Greg" Andrew continued "but by the time I found out I was already happy with your mother and I didn't want Rose to tear us apart, so I gave her some money to take care of the baby and that was it" he said. "Rose tried to get me to contact Greg, she'd send me pictures of him growing up but…I was married to your mother and then you came along… I couldn't afford to have another secret kid"
Ryan's mouth moved for a moment but no words came out, he didn't know what to think. He'd always thought his dad had been a decent man; they'd never been incredibly close, but he'd never treated Ryan badly. To learn he'd abandoned his other child – Greg of all people – was appalling to Ryan.
"How could you be so heartless?" Ryan finally asked.
Andrew sighed again "Ry…" he started; he didn't mean to upset his son, things just might become more awkward if Ryan didn't know and Greg started to hang around more often.
"You didn't even try; you didn't even try to be his father!" Ryan exclaimed. "Greg told me he's always known the man he calls dad isn't really his father, and that even though he loves him he wished he knew who his real dad was. He gets really upset thinking about you…but he doesn't know it's you does he?" he added bitterly.
"No, he doesn't know, and he can't" Andrew said vehemently.
Again, Ryan was shocked "Why the hell not!?" he practically yelled "You have lied to Greg all his life, and you've lied to me. Greg deserves to know who his dad is and I deserved to know I had a big brother. You stopped me and Greg from seeing each other for over thirty years. And I still wouldn't know about him know if we hadn't met my accident!" Ryan said seriously and then turned to leave.
"No! Ryan" Andrew said desperately as he grabbed his son's arm "Please, you can't say anything"
"I can and I will" Ryan said defiantly "He probably won't want anything to do you with you, and right now, neither do I" he managed to free himself from his father's frantic grip and then headed back to his apartment.
Andrew wanted to stop him, but he knew there was no dealing with Ryan when he had his mind set on something, especially because this time his heart was involved too. If Greg wanted to talk to Andrew the father would do it; he owed his estranged son that much, but he was not going to initiate the contact himself because he knew it would only make things worse.
So he let Ryan leave to break the news that he and Greg were brothers, and Andrew simply turned away.
When Ryan returned to his apartment he found Greg sat forward on the couch as he nervously tapped his beer bottle. The older man looked around at the sound of Ryan closing the door and gave his friend a worried look.
"Is everything alright?" Greg asked.
Ryan paused for a moment, wondering how an earth he was going to explain this. "No, not… not really" he replied as he sat down next to Greg and ran his hand through his hair. "I have something to tell you, and It's big….really big"
"Is it something to with your dad?" Greg asked with a frown.
"Our dad" Ryan said quietly, but it didn't seem to register with Greg at first. "He's our dad, Greg, you're my half-brother"
Greg almost appeared to freeze at the moment in time. Surely it was some kind of joke, but Ryan wouldn't lie to him would he? They often easily convinced people they were related as a put-on, but Greg had never though there had been any truth in the matter.
Since he was four years old Greg's mother had told him that Daniel Sanders, the man he called dad, was not his real father, but he always would be to Greg because Daniel had been there and taken care of him all his life. Greg hadn't much cared he didn't know who his real dad was; if his father didn't want to make contact then why should Greg, but now to be told he'd met his little brother by coincidence years later was so extraordinary.
"Wow" Greg said after a rather worrying amount of silence "This is…well this is not what I was expecting to get out of this trip"
"I'm so sorry, Greg" Ryan said sympathetically "I swear I had no idea, my dad just recognised you because your mom sent him photos…I mean he's not the best dad in the world but I never thought he would abandon anyone like that"
"It's…it's okay" Greg said calmly much to Ryan's surprise; he was more angry with their dad than Greg was…it still sounded strange, their dad. "I mean it's not okay that he just shunned me and my mother and didn't tell me I had a little brother" Greg said a little more frustrated now "but at least I have some closure, and I don't want anything from him"
"I don't blame you" Ryan said with a sad smile. "I just... I wish I'd known I had a brother for the past thirty odd years"
"Yeah, me too" Greg said smiling back at him.
"Do you want to get in contact with my…our dad?" Ryan asked.
"No" Greg said with a shake of his head "I'm a Sanders and that's never going to change, your dad clearly doesn't want me"
"I want you" Ryan said seriously "I want you to be my big brother. I grew up alone because I thought I was an only child, I didn't have anyone to play with or talk about my problems with…but now I have you, and you've already helped me out so much since we met and now to know that we're brothers it just…it makes things ever better"
Greg smiled at him thankfully. "I felt the same growing up; I always wanted a younger sibling to look out for. I'm the youngest of my team back home so people are always looking after me but now I have you to pass my own experiences onto, to protect and be proud of. And I'm so glad that person is you, Ryan, you're awesome and now you're my little brother too"
Ryan smiled back just at grateful "And just because you don't want to see dad doesn't mean we can't have a relationship, right?" he asked hopefully.
"Of course not" Greg said.
"Good" Ryan grinned. "And I thought the biggest revelation this week was going to be that I got my level three" he said with a laugh.
"Really?" Greg beamed "Congratulations! I'm so proud of you, baby bro" he said pulling Ryan into a hug, and it felt right, like deep down they'd known all along.
"Thanks, big bro" Ryan said with a content smile.
It would take a while for Greg to truly come to terms with everything, but he and Ryan would soon work it out, and build on the brotherly relationship which had really already started when they had first met.
I think Greg and Ryan would be good bros ^_^
I'm sorry for people who have sent me prompts and forgotten about them because I'm taking a while to get round to them but I promise I will get them all done, so don't stop them coming!
Please Review :) xx
