Chapter 5
Amy POV
I can't believe that Jake's father might be leaving the two of them. It must be so hard on the both of them since they are going to lose both parents. But Dan and I turned out ok I guess. I wanted to go to the beach with Sinead and the twins as a girls only party, but the twins wanted to invite Sinead's brothers and she wanted to bring Ham along too. Too bad for not thinking about boys. I was in my room packing my beach tote bag with the essentials. Hair brush, sunscreen, my favorite pale green towel, the switchblade Dan had got me for my birthday (since he was with Nat all the time, he wanted to me to be safe while he wasn't with me), and a white t shirt and jean shorts. Then I put on my blue swimming suit which was a bikini that had a strap that I had to tie around my neck. I pulled up my long, thick red hair into high ponytail and placed my favorite sunglasses on my head. I slipped into my red flip flops and headed downstairs in the living room to meet up with everyone before we left for the beach. Sinead was wearing a black one piece with black swimming shorts, a low ponytail and a large bag filled with what looked like to be tools. I looked at her and motioned to the bag.
"Hey! I get bored! Unlike you girls, instead of magazines, I like experimenting for fun. Don't give me that look." She said as she turned away, fiddling with her tools. Reagan and Madison were wearing one pieces that were quite different. Reagan's swimming suit was polka-dotted with different shades of purple with thick shoulder straps. Megan wore a solid purple swimming suit with thin straps. We all got into our cars. Ham drove his jeep with Sinead, and Reagan drove both twins in here BMW. As I got into my red car, I felt like there was someone behind me. The shadow on the floor shows that it was a man. I casually put my hand in my bag pretending to look for my keys when my hand finally felt my switch blade. I grabbed it and turned around holding the knife in front of me in my martial arts stance.
"Whoa whoa hold up! Its just me, Jake. " the man's hands came up.
There was Jake's brown hair and deep brown eyes fixed on mine. I shook my head.
"You scared me half to death you know?" I said as I put my knife back into my bag.
When I looked back up Jake was right in front of me and caught me off guard and I tried by back up. As I backed up I tripped on my shoe and I closed my eyes bracing the fall toward the hard concrete when a strong hand grabbed my forearm and pulled me up. When I opened my eyes, Jake's face was inches apart from mine. I realized that he was holding me in a dip/cradle position, his hands on my back, supporting me.
"Thanks for catching me." I whispered.
"I'll always be here for you Amy."
He was leaning in slowly, I closed my eyes ready for his lips to touch mine-
"Pardon me, am I interrupting?" The silky voice of a familiar British voice.
There standing in front of us, showing his tanned 6 pack and royal blue swimming trunks was Ian. He took off his sunglasses and took a look at the both of us. I quickly backed up away from Jake and looked down to cover my face with my hair. Jake scratched the back of his head.
"So you going the the beach too Ian?" Jake asked.
Ian smiled, "Of course! I love the sun, the water and I'll go wherever Amy wants to go."
I blushed. I must have looked like a tomato because Ian was smiling and Jake was trying to look calm and not awkward. Ian said he would go where ever I went. I really want to be with Ian. He's handsome, intelligent, strong, and a leader. But Jake never betrayed me and has always been a cool and normal guy.
"Well come on guys, I'll drive." I say as I jump into the drivers seat.
Both boys push each other to get into the front passenger seat. Jake ends up happily up front with me after shoving Ian back. Ian calmly get's into the back and sits silently as I drive to the beach. I really hate the awkwardness so I turn up the radio and one of my favorite songs, "The One That Got Away" by Katy Perry, was on. I kept quiet for awhile but I couldn't hold it in for so long.
"All this money can't buy me a time machine (Noooo) Can't replace you with a million rings (Nooooo) I should've told you what you meant to me (Whoa) 'Cause now I pay the price." Surprisingly, I wasn't the only one singing but one of the boys. Even though I kept my eyes on the road, I saw and knew it was Jake. He looked at me when we got to the part where it says, "I should have told you what you meant to me. And now I pay the price." After a while when the traffic light was red, I just looked at him. His eyes were like hot chocolate, and as he bore into my eyes, I felt like he knew everything about me.
Someone cleared their throat and said, "Amy, the light is green my dear."
I quickly snapped my eyes to the road, knowing that I was blushing and kept driving. A part of me didn't want to look away from Jake, yet part of me just wanted to get out of this car because the two guys I liked were in one place together. Ian had his back straight and looked out the window, avoiding the awkwardness.
After what seemed to be forever, the beach finally came into view. I say the Holt sisters tanning while Ted and Ned were under the huge, yellow umbrella while applying a whole bottle of sunscreen. Sinead was pretending to be fiddling around with her tools when she really was watching Ham's abs as he splashed around in the waves.
"Well we are here!" I said cheerfully. I grabbed my stuff and just as I was about to open my door, Ian opened it. As I got out, my sunscreen fell out of my bag.
Ian smiled, "Allow me to pick that up for you Amy." He picked it up and handed it to me.
Our hands touched and it felt like electricity was flowing through my body. Our eyes slowly moved from looking at our hands to looking into each others eyes. All I saw was soft, kind eyes searching mine. We just stood there for what seemed to be like hours. Frozen.
"Um Amy, I um, I'm going to...well I'll be over there if you need me."
I turned to see Jake awkwardly standing beside my car, his eyes looking down to the ground. He started walking towards the beach.
"Jake wait-"
Ian pulled my wrist and turned me around towards him.
"Leave him be Amy, I think the boy just needs some space."
Amy nodded and they both walked together to the beach.
Ian lightly put his arm around my waist as they walked together. I didn't mind. It felt..right? He was gentle so it didn't really matter.
When we got to the gang Madison and Reagan looked up from their tanning.
"Amy! You look hot! Ok water time!" Reagan got out the floaties.
She began to hand them out a pink one for Madison, purple donut for herself, and orange one for Amy, and a blue one for Sinead. I put on a layer of sunscreen and we all jumped in the pool while the boys sat on the beach.
I closed my eyes. The sun beat down on my skin, the warmth of the heat felt like a blanket with my toes in the lukewarm water. I could hear the waves crash against the shore, kids laughing and playing and the boys talking about sports and intellect. I could smell the aroma of barbecues cooking meat, sweet sunscreen and the salty water. I opened my eyes.
Ham was laying back in a lawn chair, Ian was under the huge umbrella reading a tabloid, the twins Ted and Ned were playing with Sinead's tools, and...Where was Jake?
I turned towards the girls on the water.
"Where's Jake?"
The girls looked towards the shore and turned back to her.
Sinead said,"Don't worry Amy, maybe he just went to the washroom."
I nodded. I flipped onto my front so that I could tan my back. Everything seemed so nice and quiet. After a while began to doze off.
SPLASH!
Something flipped my floatie while I was on it. I swam to the surface to hear laughter.
"Haha Amy I can't believe that you didn't even notice. I thought I would give away the surprised." Madison laughed.
I looked towards the girls while keeping my head above the water. There laughing with them was Jake. There was no way that I was going to let him get away with this. I smiled then pretended to not know how to swim.
"Help! I can-swim. -can't breath- help!" I bobbed up and down.
Jake immediately stopped laughing. He swam towards me. Panic on his face was clear. What I didn't know was that he was a certified lifeguard.
He cradled me, as he swam while holding me, to shore. I've never seen Jake without a shirt. He grew since the Clue hunt. Now he has defined, tan abs, his floppy dark hair was now cropped into a military look. As he carried me to where the other panicking guys sat, I saw his huge child-like brown eyes. They were like chocolate from a fountain; full and shiny.
"Amy I am so sorry, I didn't know that you couldn't swim! If I knew, I would never have done something so stupid!" Jake rambled on as he set me down.
"Amy are you ok?"
"Jake why would you be so stupid?"
Ian ran to me and bent down on one knee.
"Step back, I know how to do CPR if needed!" Jake pushed Ian back into the sand. Ian stood up and dusted himself off. The girls came onto shore with their floaties in hands laughing.
"You know who else knows CPR? Amy." Megan laughed.
Sinead added,"Yeah she finished all the lifeguarding courses after the Vespers were defeated."
Jake looked down at me seeing that I was laughing in the sand. Jake began laughing. Then so did the rest of the guys except Ian who was standing under the umbrella typing rapidly on his phone.
Jake stood up and pulled me up by my hand. I was caught by surprise and wrapped my arm around his neck to steady myself. She looked up into Jake's wide eyes as he peered down into mine emerald ones. A chorus of 'ooohhhhh's' surrounded us.
Jake smiled at me,"You're so cute when you blush Amy."
I knew my pale cheeks must have been flaming red. The sun was going down and the sky was a beautiful orange, purplely blue as if it was a painting.
"Amy would you like to walk along the shoreline with me?" Jake looked down and asked me.
How could I say no? I tried to open my mouth but no words came out. I just nodded.
Jake took me by my hand and we walked along the shore with out toes in the wet sand as the water crashed against our ankles.
"Oohhh Amy's with a Jakey!"
"Don't just stand there Sinead take some pictures! Then remember to send them to me!"
I could hear snaps of the cameras going crazy behind us. I just wanted to shield myself from the girls so I leaned into Jake as we walk. That only made it worst...well not really.
Ian's POV
That stupid, ignorant, horribly dressed boy! Stealing MY AMY! That cannot be! I reached into my phone and called my butler...Brown...Boyde...oh whatever his name is.
"Hello sir."
"Yes I need you to prepare something for me."
"And what would that be?"
"Pick me up and then I will tell you the arrangements."
