The Blond, The Brunnete and The Ugly
It was another normal day at Saint Francis Orphanage Home. Father Duffy, the head pastor that acted as the matron of the place sat in his office sipping his tea. Wearing his robes the man read a few manuscripts. The children we're to go on another retreat today, they were heading over to the church on the other side of town to share their Chrismas play with the world.
Father Duffy really loved the holidays, always added cheer and joy to his face everytime the children brought him thank you cards and mugs. Even though they we're all rejected by the world, Father Duffy saw them all as his children.
His office window looked out onto the street the orphanage was situated. There was little movement on the pavements and not a lot of cars passed by. A very calming day, he relaxed his eyes feeling to take a little nap. That was until he heard tires screeching as a car stopped at the gate and began to honking it's bell as loud as possible.
"What in tarnation?" Father Duffy got off his chair and checked the window, looking down to the main gate he was shocked to see the foster parent from a week ago returning with his favourite blond delinquent. "Oh dear what has Naruto done now." the old man just sighed as he noticed the two arguing. His door was knocked on by one of the sisters who urged him to see to the matter at the gate.
"Why is he such a menace, does he not want to be out of here?!" the sister complained. "Atleast he lasted a week this time, it's a new record." Father Duffy added as he and the sister walked out of the building. "But still father we worked so hard to get him his new home. Why does he persist on trouble?"
"Sometimes, Sister Catherine I also find myself in doubt. I feel like I should try helping the other children more, but it's just with Naruto he seems to be a special case." they walked onto the pavement towards the gate.
"What do you mean?"
"He's like a bush that needs to constantly get trimmed down. If you leave it, it boasts its leaves to all the trees as a way to show its existence but if you give it attention and time it can be morphed into anything."
"I don't follow, father." they we're just a few yards from the gate. "You will see sister, you will see." at the gate Naruto was seen shouting with his foster parent. "I can't deal with you any more $500 from the state won't change my mind."
"Well boohoo as if I wanted to live with you, Larry! It's good riddance you returned me, I was sick of that rat infested place you call a home anyway!" Naruto shouted back as he took his bags from the trunk. Shutting it with great force.
"Go to hell, Naruto! You're just an ungrateful kid, I give you a home, feed you, put clothes on your back and you decide to give me this plate of shit!"
"You call eating pizza and taking clothes from the school lost and found grateful? Go back to your mom, you big baby. It's no wonder your still a virgin!" at that time Larry just got into his car and just gave Naruto a big middle stick which the blond returned.
As the car turned to the corner, and it's tailights out of sight. Father Duffy and Sister Catherine finally arrived. "Welcome home, Naruto." Fathe rDuffy said with a smile. "Hello, Father Duffy, Sister Catherine."
"Naruto, was that cursing I heard?" Sister Catherine questioned sternly as Naruto rubbed his back sheepishly. "Sorry, Larry must've had an effect on me, he was a bad role model can you believe he brought prostitutes to his home."
"Good lord." Catherine just sighed in disbelief. "We should really make better background checks, Sister Catherine." Father Duffy stated. "Yes father." she noted it down. "So a week huh? That's actually a new record, well done. Naruto." he gave Naruto a high five. "Father! This matter isn't one of celebration, this is his 100th return!"
"Yes that is true. Naruto what really went wrong this time?" Father Duffy asked the blond as they walked back into the orphanage's property. "You want the truth?"
"That would clear all the confusion."
"He said spaghetti was better than ramen." there was silence at that moment as Sister Catherine boiled with anger. "Are you serious!? That is what made you come back, what about what you said a the gate with him bringing back those...umm...girls."
"I was exaggerating." Sister Catherince just put her hand on the blond's ear pulling him away from Father Duffy. "Father excuse us, Naruto hear needs to learn some manners." the pastor watched as the sister ridiculed the blond as they turned went to the building next door.
"Umm, okay I'll just put Naruto's bags in his room."
Nathan Morgan sat in his room staring at the ceiling, he was bored out of his mind. The sisters had told his room to clean up before they left for the retreat and after a spick and span session his roomates left to play outside but the brunnete didn't feel like playing.
It felt rather lonely right now, his older brother was kicked out nine months back and he hardly saw him. The nuns warned him that if he returned to the orphanage they'd call the police. His best friend Naruto had been picked up by a foster parent...for the millionth time now. He was sure he'd return the next day but he never did. One day became two that turned into a whole week.
He really missed his best mate.
At that time Father Duffy had opened the door. "Hello, Nathan." the brunnete looked up to see the pastor and on reaction he got up from the bed and greeted the man. His eyes landed on the suitcase and he watched as he placed it on the bed opposite his. "Wait that's Naruto's bed. Did he come back?" Nathan questioned as Father Duffy turned to the young lad.
"Yes," he sighed as he fixed his hair after having ruffled it from all the stress. Nathan hearing the news was overjoyed. "Where is he?" he asked. "Outside, with Sister Catherine." with that Father Duffy just watched as Nathan ran out of the room with a heartbeat. The old man just chuckled at the scene, as he closed the dorm's door.
Outside Nathan scanned the place and through the crowd of chatting children and scolding nuns, there his eyes landed on Naruto who seemed to be getting a mouthful from Sister Catherine.
"This better be the last time Naruto! I never taught you such foul language do you understand!" the blond nodded. "Yes, Sister Catherine."
"Good, now go be a good boy and play with the others." the blond walked away being watched closely by the nun. The playground was nothing special just an open field with trees to climb, a concrete basketball court that had a few kids playing tag on it and balls being passed around by others that had been donated by parents looking to adopt babies.
'It's good to be home.' Naruto thought, having grown here since he was abandoned as a baby the blond never called any other place like that.
"Well, well look who came back to the yard." the blond turned to see his mate wearing his blue shirt and white long sleeve vest undershirt. "Nathan! It's so good to see you!" the two shared a bro hug. "How've you been, did you miss me?"
"No, actually I didn't. I just love Sister Catherine giving me all her attention and feel kinda jealous that you'll be taking her attention yet again." he jokingly punched Naruto's shoulder. "So how was Larry?" Naruto had a bewildered look.
"He was a mess. An A-grade momma's boy. On tuesday he dumped me at his mom's house since he had this card game with the money he was supposed to feed me!"
"That bad huh."
"You don't even know the half of it one time-" Naruto went on and on telling Nathan the events that happened at the man's place and the brunnete could help but feel happy to have his wacky, troublemaking friend back. "Well if it isn't the two band boy rejects." the orphan bully Simon began as his group of minions followed.
"Nice seeing you Naruto how was freedom?" Simon questioned as he held his basketball. The two turned to the boy as his clique circled them. "What is this, Simon? I welcome home party?"
"No, I just felt you needed to learn a lesson, after you took Chloe to the school dance last week. I could've forgiven you if you stayed but you sadly left us." he cooed. "Well sorry, Miss Frazier saw me first. Nathan was a really great wing man, did he tell you, after prom we actually went to McDonalds and we shared ice cream? Here's the best part, she fed me and guess what." he went up Simon's face. "She said we should do it again." Simon just boiled with anger as he was about to throw a fist but one of his minions stopped him.
"The sisters are watching." he stated as Simon looked to see that Sister Catherine was keeping an eye on them. He stopped from beating up the blond.
"You know what. There's no need for violence, I want to go on this retreat and not see the likes of you schumks, so how about this. 2v2 on the court." he compromised. "And why should we accept?"
"Money of course. A hundred bucks, each." the two hearing this just looked at each other. "Get ready to lose." they both said as they went to the court, all the kids playing on the court we're moved to the other side as it was time to play some one side basketball.
"You and Nathan can go first." Simon passed the ball to Naruto roughly almost hitting the blond's face. "First to ten?" the blond questioned as Simon nodded. "Good," he just passed to Nathan who was left open in the right corner. "Nathan!" the brunnette caught the ball, like his favourite player Reggie Miller he watched the ball hit the front rim and roll in.
"That's 2-0 right there." Nathan said as Simon's minion got the ball. "What the hell are you doing! Stay on him! Don't make him breath!" Simon told the minion who nodded as he bodied Nathan, who began putting his shoulder on the minion's chest. "You know if you lose me it's a three right." Nathan began. "You know you can't guard. Just ask Simon to take you out." he added as Simon served Naruto.
"He's going to do a right side hesi, left feint alleyoop." Nathan added and like clockwork Naruto danced on Simon who tried to swat the ball away. "When you reach, I teach!" Naruto stated as he made a left-right cross and dashed right. Simon getting his balanced chased and jumped in the air, seeing Naruto pull a fadeaway.
The ball bounced of the board as Nathan was under to get the board and use the square to score.
"3-0." Nathan stated as Simon ranted on his man, at that time Nathan and Naruto came with a plan. Nathan would now take the inbound pass. Passing to Naruto who began posting up on the minion, they got into the key. "Come on man, try harder this is to easy." Naruto made a quick spin catching the kid off guard as his feet weren't balanced for him to pivot and cancel the attempt. Naruto caught momentum as he made a two handed dunk.
The Simon and his minion got mopped to the point that it was now 9-0. Nathan was on the ball with the minion guarding him. "I'm going to get past you, you know that right." he began. "Simon's going to be so angry at you if you slip up. You're not going to slip up are you? Why the long face? It's not my fault you're ankles are weak." he took the ball under his legs as with a better first step he dashed past his defender running towards the rim he tried for a layup when, Simon came out of nowhere and bodied Nathan away from the ball making him tumble on the floor with great force.
"Hey!" Nathan just got up as he cupped his fist and bodied Simon with a quick two jab and right hook. His minions joined in to protect him and went after Nathan, at that time Naruto had Nathan's back as back to back they stood, the minions circled them and Simon got up with blood in his mouth. "Oh you two are so dead!" he shouted. "Naruto you take the right, I got the left."
"Okay, what about Simon?"
"He's mine."
"GET THEM!" Simon ordered as a massive brawl ensued. Naruto kicked his first assailant in the stomach as at that time Nathan dodged an attempted punch from Simon. Returning a knee to the stomach he punched Simon away as he was staggered sending him to the ground.
Naruto dodged an attempted combo when he just swept the kid off his feet and landed his foot onto his chin, sending massive damage to his brain. Nathan dealt with another opp, who tried to hit him with a rock. Dodging it he ran to him and with momentum, he hit him with a 'Sweet Chin Music' he learned from watching WWE.
The kid tumbled onto the floor holding his chin in pain. At that time Simon hit Nathan with a hook to his right chin. "Hey!" Naruto shouted as he caught Simon by the shoulder turning him to face the blond only to receive a mean right to the kidney. Both Nathan and Naruto grabbed his arms as they both lifted him high into the air as they sent him down crashing into the hard concrete.
The sisters were on their lunch break when this happened so when one of the girls rushed in the break room to inform them of the situation they wasted no time to break the scuffle. Many boys got their teeth broken that day, Naruto and Nathan we're the only one's to receive punishment as they were the ones to lay the business.
