Chapter One: Just Another Day

It was just another day for Ururu as she organized things on the shelf and sorted through new merchandise. Nothing was special about today. Or that was how it was supposed to be.

Kisuke Urahara, her boss, was so annoyed anyone could pick up on it. Only Tessai tried talking with him today, only to piss him off further.

"What are you doing now?" Kisuke asked Tessai.

"Just making tea, boss."

"Yeah, but I don't want any. And I don't like that kind anyway."

"This isn't for you, boss."

"Yeah, I know who it's for. She ain't coming here. I don't want her here."

"Boss, she's Yoruichi's daughter. Even if you won't acknowledge her as your own, Yoruichi is still her mother. Yoruichi wants to see her. And she's bringing Yachiru."

"Oh, no. Not that brat!" Kisuke objected. "I don't need any brats around here."

"Boss, don't say things like that around Ururu."

The girl looked at Kisuke and kept her mouth shut.

"She's not a brat," Kisuke said.

Tessai looked to Ururu. "Mind going to sort things in the back for a bit?"

"Okay," she said.

"I don't get it, Kisuke," Tessai said once Ururu left. "You made Ururu and Jinta. You like them. You care for them. You 'made' your daughter in a different way but made all the same. It's good you love and care for Ururu and Jinta, but can't you care for her, too?"

"The kids are just my experiments."

"So, you tell yourself that. I thought you cared for Yoruichi. But clearly you don't care enough for this."

"She's not my daughter."

"You're right. Strictly speaking. She's the reincarnation of the daughter you had from a previous incarnation. So, yes, you're right. But can't you see why Yoruichi says she's her daughter all the same?"

"If you like her so much, you be her dad."

"She doesn't actually need a dad. Not like Ururu or Jinta. She's a grown woman."

"Oh, I see. Want to be with her then?"

"Have you lost your mind, boss? Other than being Yoruichi's daughter, don't you know who she is?"

"Kenpachi Zaraki's little bed toy."

"You're disgusting. No. You might remember that all shinigami must answer to the royal family, so we all gotta answer to her. She's going to marry the next king."

"Who doesn't mind she's playing around."

"That's between the two of them."

"He might not marry her. I mean who would want to?"

"She's the mother of his children. I'm sure he'll marry her again. Just like in another lifetime."

"Then she should go back. She's just a pathetic human. She should go back to America or go on to the royal realm and learn to be an obedient wife."

"I suggest you not say that around Yoruichi. Are you trying to get her to beat you?"

"You can leave here, Tessai. So can Yoruichi. This is my home, my shop, my rules. And I do not want that woman or her brat here."

"So, you'll abandon Yoruichi and me? Forget why we've been exiled? We supported you."

"But you won't support me on this?"

"If you don't want to obey the shinigami rules, then turn your back on them! If for no other reason, Shirahime is Shirayukihime Shinnouhi. You owe her your allegiance. Or you owe your own honor to not continue to live like a shinigami. Become a human like Isshin Shiba."

"Don't be unreasonable, Tessai."

"I'm not the one being unreasonable."

KARAKURA TOWN - URAHARA SHOP - BACKYARD

Ururu tried not to imagine what the two men were discussion. Mr. Urahara hated Lady Yoruichi's daughter. She was Mr. Urahara's daughter, too. But he didn't want her.

Maybe he only wanted a boy.

Ururu would like to have a family. Sure, the members of the shop - even that annoying Jinta - were like her family. But what would it be like to have a mom? She couldn't imagine what it would be like to have a dad. She looked up to Mr. Urahara, but surely, he'd never want her. After all, all she had to do was think of how he treated Shirahime.

Better not to ask. Better to say nothing. She couldn't bear it if Mr. Urahara hated her as much as Shirahime.

"What are you doing out here?"

She looked up to see Jinta.

"Let me guess," he said, "that annoying princess is coming over."

"She's not annoying."

"But she is a princess?"

"Obviously. In fact, she's the princess, Jinta."

"Why does she have to come over here?"

"Come on, Jinta. Lady Yoruichi is so excited she's coming here. Be nice."

"She bringing her annoying kid?"

"She's less annoying than you are."

"Don't you think Mr. Urahara's just going to abandon us once he finally accepts her as his daughter?"

KARAKURA TOWN - ELSEWHERE

The gate to the other world opened to let the eleventh division's top five members through. Even in a gigai, Kenpachi Zaraki's reiatsu was still overpowering. Though his fukutaicho, his daughter Yachiru, and her mother, Shirahime Thorne, were not bothered by it. His other two officers, Ikkaku Madarame and Yumichika Ayasegawa were used to being around him enough that it did not bother then either.

Yachiru held her mom's hand as she jumped up and down, excited to see all the shops.

"Ooh! Candy!" she exclaimed. "Can I have some?"

"You haven't eaten yet," Shirahime said. "Eat a good meal first. Then a little bit of candy later. You want to grow up to be like your father, don't you? So, you need to eat the right things and not just junk food."

"Please, mom?" she asked.

"We can get some before we head back."

"Aww . . . ."

"Yachiru, listen to your mom," Kenpachi said.

Yumichika patted Yachiru's head. "You can get candy anywhere. You probably can't get the food you'll be eating in Soul Society, so enjoy that first."

"He's right," Ikkaku agreed.

"So, your mom changed the meeting place, right?" Kenpachi asked. "It's not there, right?"

"I'm sure she just meant to come and pick her up there. We'll just be stopping by," Shirahime said.

"But he's going to be there, isn't he?"

"We'll just ignore him. He's not worth our attention anyway."

"Don't worry, taicho," Ikkaku said, "I'll keep the idiot busy while the rest of you go and have lunch. He might even be a good fight. He was a taicho after all."

"Yeah, that crazy man's predecessor," Kenpachi said. "Speaking of which, we should really make sure that crazy man doesn't know you're related to that man. It's possible that crazy man would be too afraid of you, but it's also possible he'll get really interested in you."

"Mom's an interesting person," Yachiru said.

"A bad kind of interested, Yachiru," Kenpachi explained. "Something bad for adults."

"Don't worry, hime-sama," Yumichika said before stealing a kiss from her, "I'll protect you from that nut."

"First thing's first," Kenpachi said. "Let's deal with that idiot shop owner first." He looked over to Shirahime. "Maybe we should make it so he can't have any more kids. After all, considering how he feels about you, he doesn't need any more."

"I like that idea, taicho," Ikkaku said. "He deserves it."

"How would you do that, Kenny?" Yachiru asked.

"It's all very adult, dear," Shirahime said.

KARAKURA TOWN - LOCAL CAFÉ

At a local café, Soi Fon set the tea down before her precious Lady Yoruichi. She came to the human world hoping to talk some sense into her. Yoruichi was talented, brave, and intelligent, but when it came to matters of the heart, she needed a little help.

"I think, Lady Yoruichi, it is time you dropped him," Soi Fon said at last.

"Hmm?" Yoruichi asked.

"Urahara. Time to let him go."

"You've always been jealous of my relationship with him."

"That's not true. I've always been puzzled by it. Your life is your own, but I won't simply sit by while you let him ruin something truly wonderful for you."

"He's not ruining anything," Yoruichi said.

"He hates your daughter, Yoruichi. And the things he says about her and your granddaughter? He must really have a death wish. No matter how powerful or talented he is, I'm sure Kenpachi Zaraki can kill him. Not to mention the entire eleventh division would be more than happy to join in."

"Kenpachi may be strong, but he's not -."

"'The only reason she's in the eleventh division is that she is Zaraki's bed toy.' You've heard that, and the worse variations of that, haven't you? If for no other reason, can't you leave him because he doesn't even give your daughter a little bit of respect? He can't even respect her for your sake!"

"It's simply hard for him -."

"What?" she interrupted. "To accept you have a child? Because don't bother saying he does. Sister's done with that. She won't be calling him that again. Even if he had a change of heart and begged her, Yoruichi, you'll never have both of them.

"I can't believe it. You love him so much that you'd pick him over your own daughter, your own granddaughter. Sister might come and see you again, but if things get worse, Kenpachi won't be allowing Yachiru to come see you. Is that what you really want? Having to wait until she grows up to see her again? Until after her mother is -."

Soi Fon paused.

"What?" Yoruichi asked. "After Shirahime is what?"

"Long gone," Soi Fon finished.

"She's leaving? Can she really go back to America?"

"Yes, leaving. Leaving in the way people used to say hundreds of years ago, 'leaving'."

"She's not sick," Yoruichi insisted.

"She's human," Soi Fon said. "If I were you, I'd enjoy the time I had."

Thanks for stopping by. Right now, Shirahime's eleventh division days lack a story not rated MA. So, here it is. This is the background story that explains a bit more of her family relationships. Yes, every character has their own wishes, but can one of you guess which character's wish is the central one of this story?

Thorne, Shirahime: A human shinigami who is the reincarnation of Shirayukihime no Tenjou, a member of the royal family. This past self was the mother of Yachiru' Kusajishi's previous incarnation, Princess Hikari. She was the daughter of the previous incarnations of Kisuke Urahara and Yoruichi Shihoin.

Her current incarnation is also a member of the royal family, but she is hiding from them. As a member of the royal family, she has impressive spiritual power that she is learning to control. Among these are the abilities to preform shikai or bankai without verbal commands as well as having more than one bankai. She was engaged to Kenpachi Zaraki's previous human incarnation. She is currently the fourth seat of the eleventh division. In the eleventh division, aside from Kenpachi and Yachiru, only Ikkaku, Yumichika, Shinjiro, and Tatsuya. Thanks to Kail, Ichigo's hollow, residing in her body, her human self can survive in Soul Society. Her human name is Samantha "Sam" Hawthorne. Zaraki usually calls her Sam. Yachiru calls her mom and likes to play with Kosetsu, the physical incarnation of Shirahime's zanpakuto, Kosetsu Ryu.

Ayasegawa, Yumichika: The eleventh division's fifth seat and Shirahime's lover.

Hanakari, Jinta: Resident of Urahara's Shop.

Hidaka, Tatsuya: The eleventh division's sixth seat who knows of Shirahime's true identity.

Hitsugaya, Toshiro: Tenth division taicho who is attracted to Shirahime. He knows about Kail. Despite appearance, he is an adult.

Kita, Shinjiro: The eleventh division's seventh seat who knows of Shirahime's true identity.

Kurosaki, Ichigo: A substitute shinigami who received shinigami powers from Rukia Kuchiki. In a relationship with Rukia. His previous incarnation, Crown Prince Ichigo, was married to Shirayukihime no Tenjou.

Kusajishi, Yachiru: The present incarnation of Shirayukihime no Tenjou's daughter. She considers Kenpachi Zaraki her father and Shirahime her mother.

Madarame, Ikkaku: The eleventh division's third seat. He is tolerant of and looks out for Shirahime as she is Yachiru's mother and Kenpachi's lover. He dislikes her as she is Yumichika's lover.

Shihoin, Yoruichi: Exiled shinigami and former second division taicho. She is the reincarnation of Shirayukihime's mother who wanted her daughter, but her husband stole her child and sold her to the royal family. She is trying to improve her relationship with Shirahime and Yachiru.

Soi Fon: Current second division taicho who idolizes Yoruichi. She knows Shirahime's true identity and is Shirahime's honorary sister.

Tsukabishi, Tessai: Exiled shinigami and former Kido Corps Commander. Resident of Urahara's shop. Unlike Kisuke, he supports Shirahime.

Tsumugiya, Ururu: Resident of Urahara's Shop.

Urahara, Kisuke: Exiled shinigami and former twelfth division taicho. He is the reincarnation of Shirayukihime's father who sold her to the royal family. Like his past self, he does not want his daughter.

Zaraki, Kenpachi: Eleventh division taicho and Shirahime's lover. His previous incarnation was engaged to Sam Hawthorne, Shirahime's human self. He usually calls her Sam. He is very determined to keep Shirahime safe from those who would harm her. In his division, he has enforced a "no touching" policy with the mother of his child, but by some past agreement, Yumichika is the exception.
