Chapter 1

Piper looked at the jobs online. She should have had her degree in business by now, but things didn't go as planned. Her parents died when she was 15 and they left her money for school. She was kind of a baby. She had the world and at 15 it was snatched away. She never quite recovered. She tried to double it, but the business world was ruthless and she was just an immature, dumb kid. She was 21 and a year short of that degree. "What's the point I suck at business anyway."

She had a week and she had to be out of the dorm. Her roommate Nicky was out there in more ways than one, but she was cool. She was a fiery redhead with lots of friends and connections. Piper would've been jealous but Nicky was too cool for that. "Piper, whatchu doing?" Nicky hugged her neck as she looked over her shoulder.

Piper kept searching, "Looking for a job." Nicky brushed off the idea claiming it was summer and time to decompress from the school year. She was lucky, she had parents and money. She didn't really get the whole situation. "Well, I can't decompress because I have no money and nowhere to live. I'm pretty stressed out here Nick." She spun her chair around, "Any good paying job needs a degree that I don't have. How the hell am I supposed to live here in New York?"

Nicky hugged her as she started crying, "I told you to come and stay at my parents house with me. They're going on a trip anyway. They won't know or care." Piper just shook her head. "Hey, we'll figure something out. I promise. Want to go to a party tonight?" Piper just shook her head. Nicky didn't hear anything she just said.

Piper spent the night applying for a waitress, coffee shops, and other bullshit jobs. She figured she had done enough. She climbed into bed completely naked, it's how she slept. When her phone went off at 12 AM. It was from Nicky. "Come to this address ASAP. Gosh Nicky, are you drunk again." She grabbed the clothes she saw first and Nicky's keys. She knew the deal if she had too much to drink Piper was her designated driver, but gosh she hated driving in the city it made her so nervous.

She hopped in Nicky's all black Range Rover, just another gift from mommy and daddy. She drove to the place. Piper was shocked to see it was an apartment building. A man tapped on the window. "Parking ma'am?" Piper never got out before. She looked down at her clothes.

Piper climbed out embarrassed as she stood in her baby blue pajama pants with white snowflakes on them and her worn out Uggs. Her blue North Face jacket was open and barely covered the shirt that said "If it's snowing, I ain't going". To make it worse it was May and even in New York snow was nowhere in sight.

The man gave her a ticket and pointed to the entrance. She walked in and looked around. She grabbed her phone and typed quickly, asking Nicky where she was. The phone rang and it was Nicky. She sounded perfectly sober, so Piper was confused. "Tell the man at the front desk what? Why did you text if you weren't drunk?" Nicky told her to hand the phone to the guy.

Piper walked slowly to the front desk and handed the man the phone with a smile. He just nodded and looked at her, "Yes ma'am, I will write it down and bring her up. He wrote down her name in a book, Piper Chapman. She didn't even ask why. "Cal, watch the front desk, I'm heading up to Alex Vause." He snickered saying good luck.

Piper wondered who the hell Alex Vause was. "I'm Larry, nice to meet you Piper." He looked at her up and down. "Do you know Alex Vause?" Piper pushed a strand of her blonde hair behind her ear that just missed the ponytail and shook her head no. Larry looked at her pants and read her shirt. "Yeah I can tell."

Piper's blue eyes filled with worry as she saw they reached the top floor. Larry needed to use the keycard to even let her off. "Straight that way. You can't get lost, Alex Vause owns the whole floor."

Piper walked slowly until finally she saw a familiar face. Nicky ran up excitedly, "Piper, what the fuck are you wearing?"

Piper shrugged, "I was in bed. I figured you needed a ride. Why am I here?" Piper adjusted her jacket and looked down at her clothes.

Nicky sighed, "I told you I would figure something out. I thought I did. Alex is going to have a field day. Come on." Nicky pulled a very frightened Piper into the living room. Everything was either white leather or glass. "Alex, this is my friend Piper Chapman."

Piper swallowed hard, Alex Vause was a tall woman. Ever since she heard Larry say the name she thought she was a he. She turned around to face her. She walked over examining Piper every step of the way. Alex had long black hair. Her eyebrows were the perfect shape. She wore thin black glasses that matched her hair color. She stood over Piper in height. Her green eyes were bright through the black frames. "Can I take your coat?" Her voice was deep and raspy.

Piper was hot, and Alex Vause was making her hotter, but she wasn't giving away her jacket that covered her inappropriate shirt and braless chest. Nicky just stared at her. Piper tried to coax herself to speak up. She wasn't gay, she lost her virginity at 16 to a hot football player. It was something she did out of the pain of losing her parents. She never thought about women but Alex Vause was fucking sexy. Piper tried to get a hold of her mind. "No thank you." Finally she said something.

Alex just smirked and laughed a little. "Nice pjs." Piper felt small and ridiculous. "Come and sit down. Piper made a face at Nicky as she just shrugged. Just when Piper thought she was getting a handle on herself, Alex pushed her glasses to the top of her hair. "Nicky tells me that you are looking for a summer job. I saw her tonight at the club. I offered it to her, but she said she knew someone better."

Piper turned and looked at Nicky who was coaching from the side. Alex placed her hand on Piper's leg. "In case I'm losing you in the conversation, that's you." Piper looked down at Alex's hand and back to her green eyes. Alex smiled, pulled her glasses back down, and continued, "I'm a model here in New York. I also travel to LA. I need an assistant. Someone to know my schedule, stick by me, take notes on things I may not be listening to when they're talking. Are you interested?"

Piper was drowning not just information but her lower half, so she just nodded. "Hmmm." Alex looked at Nicky who just shrugged and smiled. "The job will require you to talk to me quite a bit, can you handle that?"

Piper found her voice again, "Yes ma'am. I mean Yes Mrs. Vause." Alex smiled and let out a big laugh, "I'm no ma'am and I'm not married." Piper corrected her with a Ms. Vause, which made her laugh even louder while she clapped her hands together, "Oh my gosh, call me Alex. How old do you think I am?"

Piper didn't know and she didn't care. She was tall, thin, beautiful, and her body was amazing. "It's just a respect thing. You obviously aren't old at all."

Alex stood up and extended her hand for Piper to shake. Alex instead pulled her up. "Well, I'm 27 and at the end of the modeling road. I'm a dying breed kid." She gave her an envelope. "It's a contract. You should look it over, but I would like to know by tomorrow. The pay and hours are there, but I will need you to live here, room and board is covered."

Piper thanked her for the opportunity. She didn't want to read anything, she wanted to sign it right there. "Goodnight Alex."

Alex waved and bit her lip. "Goodnight kid."
