The Loss of a Hero

Chapter Twenty-six

Percy POV

The room was silent as we all watched the rays of light wash over Nico, scanning every inch of him. Nico held tight to Eve, who was sitting next to him on the couch I'd formed out of water for them. A few minutes passed, and the whole time Pence kept tapping into his computer.

Finally, he sighed, then tapped a key with finality. The rays of light vanished.

"Well?" I asked. "Any luck?"

Pence shook his head. "Not much. Sure, I got plenty of data, but... Not sure what to do with it, man, it's not making sense." He snapped his fingers, and his computer and devices vanished. "I mean, I created this device, this program, and I don't have a clue what it's all trying to tell me."

I nodded. "Hey, man, you tried your best. Don't feel too bad, alright?"

"Yeah, I guess. Thanks."

"Don't mention it." I raised a hand, and pulled water out of the drinking fountain outside the room, bringing it to myself and forming it into a chair. I sat down, kicking back a bit. "So, out of all the meaningless jumbles of stuff, anything in there that's usable?"

"Bits and pieces." He frowned. "I got something that was sort of coherent from the location/source scanner. The power just kind of branches from out of nowhere, all over Aurora."

I raised my hand and made another couch, offering it to Chloe and Kairi. Kairi sat, and Chloe curled up, closing her eyes. She looked totally asleep, but I knew she had her mental eyes and ears sharply tuned. "Well, is there anything we can do with that?" I asked.

"Not really, man. It's like... I dunno, it's almost like it's just going into a different version of reality, but that's impossible. Even if there are other versions of reality, the walls between them simply aren't passable, because there's no physical walls. The universe goes on forever."

"Mm, maybe you're on the wrong track, then." Chloe opened her eyes. She sat up with a grin. "Mind if I see that data?"

End of Chapter Twenty-six

hey, guys, sorry about the short chapter, I learned that this thing hates me worse than I thought, it simply refused to let me copy/paste, so I had to deal with lag, which results ultimately in a short chapter, cuz too much lag and this thing freezes, which could lose all my work. So, signing off this chapter, on to the next!
