When the Levee Breaks Part 2
Bobby, Dean and Angela unlocked and opened the panic room door.
"How the hell did he get out?" Dean asked.
"Maybe he had help. Room full of busted devil's traps." Bobby replied.
"Demons?" Angela asked. "Ruby."
"That'd be my guess." Bobby said.
"How did she even touch the door?" Angela asked.
"You think she's got the mojo?"
"I didn't think so. I don't know, man." Dean replied.
"What difference does it make?" Bobby asked. "How he got gone ain't as important as where he got gone to."
"Well, I'll tell you one thing. At this point I hope he's with Ruby." Angela said.
"Why?" Bobby asked.
"'Cause killing her's the next big item on my to-do list." Angela replied.
"I thought you two were on call for angel duty."
"We are on call. In the Impala, on my way to murder the bitch." Angela shrugged.
Dean and Angela left the room.
"One thing." Bobby said.
"What?" Dean asked.
"Sam don't wanna be found, which means he's gonna be damn near impossible to find."
"Yeah, we'll see." Dean replied.
~/~\~
Sam sat in the corner, shaking. He got up. Someone knocked on the door. He answered; it was Ruby.
"Honeymoon suite, really?" she smiled. "I'm flattered."
Sam shut the door behind her. "Did you bust me out of that room?"
"How could I, Sam?" Ruby asked. "The whole thing's engineered to bite me in the ass."
"Then how did I get out of there?"
"I don't know. I don't wanna know. You're out. That's all that matters. I'm glad you're here."
"Yeah?" Sam asked. "Where the hell have you been?"
"I got here as quick as I could."
"I mean the past three weeks. I've been calling you." Sam replied.
"I've been pretty deep in it trying to dig out Lilith." Ruby replied. "Sometimes I can't sit around and check my voicemail. I'm sorry you're hurting. Really. I had no idea that Dean and Angela would do that to you."
"You and me both." Sam replied.
"You didn't book this joint just to impress me, did you?" Ruby asked.
"Dean and Angie are gonna come after me. And they know my habits, my aliases, everything. They know exactly which motel I'd pick."
"Hence the room."
"Whatever it takes to shake them."
"It won't be easy. I mean, they know you better than anyone."
"Not as well as they think." Sam said.
"You know, it's sad." Ruby said.
"What?"
"That things have gotten this bad between you guys."
Ruby stroked Sam's hair. Sam slammed Ruby down onto the bed and leaned over her, moving down her body until he found the knife in her ankle sheath. He drew it and cut her arm, then leaned down to suck her blood. She smirked.
~/~\~
"Police found my car." Bobby said. "Abandoned in an alley in Jamestown, North Dakota."
"He's switching it up." Angela replied. "Any other cars stolen in Jamestown?"
"Two. 1999 Honda Civic, blue. Nice and anonymous, like Sam likes." Bobby said.
"What was the other one?" Dean asked.
"White '05 Escalade with custom rims. It's a neon sign." Bobby said.
"You're right." Dean nodded. "He'd never take that. Which is exactly what he did."
"You think?" Bobby asked.
"I know that kid." Dean replied. "All right, we'll head in that direction. You stay here, ride the police databases. We gotta find him quick."
~/~\~
Ruby was lying in bed with Sam, both of them wearing fewer layers than earlier.
"Your appetite's gotten much bigger." Ruby noted.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Sam asked.
"Sam, relax." She said. "It's okay. It's good. Just means you're getting stronger, that's all. It means you're strong enough to kill Lilith. Just in time, too, because the final seals are breaking."
"How many are left?" Sam asked.
"Three… two…"
"What? Where are the angels?" Sam frowned.
"Screwing the pooch, wherever they are." Ruby shrugged. "The point is, it's looking more and more like we're getting down to the final seal. And I found something big."
"What?"
"Seal 66. It can't be broken by just any demon." Ruby said. "Apparently, only Lucifer's first can do it."
"Lucifer's first?" Sam raised a brow.
"Demon Sunday School story." Ruby said. "God prefers humans to angels. Lucifer gets jealous and then he gets creative. And he twists and tempts a human soul into the very first demon as a 'screw you' to God. It's what got him locked up in the first place."
"That was Lilith?" Sam asked.
"She's way older than she looks."
"Wait. So if Lilith is the only one who can break the final seal, if I get to her in time—
"Then Lucifer never busts out of his cage. Exactly." Ruby nodded.
"Great. You figure out where she is?"
"The bitch can hide." Ruby replied. "But I finally have a lead on someone who might be able to help us. I closed in on a member of Lilith's entourage. You might call her a personal chef."
"Chef? Seriously? What does she eat?"
"You don't wanna know." Ruby replied.
~/~\~
"So our demon gourmet nurse." Sam said. "You sure?"
"She'll be there." Ruby assured. "Graveyard shift tomorrow night. Meantime, if you're gonna be strong enough to kill Lilith, you're gonna need more than I can give you now."
Sam sighed.
"Sam. Come on. It's okay." Ruby assured.
"I know I need more. I get it. I know it's okay. I just, I wish they trusted me, you know?"
"Sorry." Ruby murmured.
"I just hope… you know, when all this is over… I hope we can fix things."
~/~\~
"Cops found the Escalade in a ditch outside Elk River." Bobby said.
"How far away are we?" Dean asked.
"A couple of hours. I pulled up a weather map, made some calls. There's a town not far from there, Cold Spring. Lighting up with demon sign."
"A good place to look." Angela said.
"Hey, listen."
"What?" Dean and Angela asked.
"Us finding Sam? It's gotta be about getting him back, not pushing him away." Bobby said.
"Right." Dean and Angela replied.
"I know you two are man. I understand. You got a right to be, but I'm just saying. Be good to him anyway. You gotta get through it him."
Dean hung up.
~/~\~
Sam left the motel room. Dean and Angela, hidden, watched him go, then entered the room.
~/~\~
Ruby was still in the room; she and Angela fought. Sam reentered and defended Ruby.
"No." Sam said. "Let her go. Just take it easy." He put his hands on Angela's shoulders.
Angela shook his hands off of her and glared. "Well, it must've been some part you two had going, considering how hard you tried to keep us from crashing it. Well, solid try, but here we are."
"Dean, Angie, I'm glad you're here." Sam said. "Look. Let's just talk about this."
"Soon as she's dead, we can talk all you want." Angela shrugged.
"Ruby, get out of here." Sam instructed.
"No, she's not going anywhere." Angela lunged.
Ruby made her escape. Sam watched her go.
"She's poison, Sam." Dean said, pulling Angela away from Sam.
"It's not what you think, guys." Sam replied.
"Look what she did to you." Dean said. "I mean, she up and vanishes weeks at a time, leaves you cracking out for another hit—
"She was looking for Lilith." Sam replied.
"That is French for manipulating your ass ten ways from Sunday." Dean said.
"You're wrong, Dean." Sam whispered.
"Sam, you're lying to yourself." Dean replied. "I just want you to be okay. You would do the same for me or Angie. You know you would."
"Just listen." Sam said.
Sam raised his hand, realized he was still holding Ruby's knife that he took from Angela, and tossed the knife on the bed.
"Just listen for a second. We got a lead on a demon close to Lilith. Come with us, guys. We'll do this together."
"That sounds great." Angela walked up to him. "As long as it's you, me and Dean. Demon bitch is a deal breaker. You kiss her goodbye, we can go right now."
Sam looked and Angela and pursed his lips. "I can't." he said. "Why do you care if I'm with her, anyway?" he scoffed. "You and Cas have gotten pretty close lately."
Angela glared at Sam. "So you're bringing Cas into this?" she asked. "Sam, I'm not jealous of Ruby of all people!" she snapped. "I care that you're with her because she's a manipulative bitch." She said. "Don't bring Cas into this just because you can't handle that I've moved on from you." She scoffed. She studied him. "God, has the demon blood also inflated your ego?" she raised a brow.
Sam clenched his jaw. "You and Cas aren't even the same species, just like me and Ruby." Sam replied. "So, I don't know why you've put yourself on a freaking pedestal as if you're above me."
Angela pursed her lips. "I'm not sucking down his blood like a junkie, Sam." she replied. "And I don't know why you're freaking out, Cas and I aren't a couple. Sure, we both like each other a lot, but we both know it just couldn't work out. So, stop making assumptions about my love life."
Sam clenched his jaw. "Whatever." he replied. "I need her to help me kill Lilith. I know you two can't wrap your heads around it, but maybe one day you two'll understand. I'm the only one who can do this."
"No, you're not the one who's gonna do this." Dean replied.
"Right, that's right, I forgot. The angels think it's you and Angie."
"You don't think we can?" Angela challenged.
"No. You can't." Sam replied. "You two aren't strong enough."
"And who the hell are you?" Angela glared.
"I'm being practical here. I'm doing what needs to be done."
"Yeah? You're not gonna do a single damn thing." Dean replied.
"Stop bossing me around, Dean." Sam replied. "My whole life, you take the wheel, you call the shots, and I trust you because you are my brother. Now I'm asking you, for once, trust me."
"No." Dean shook his head. "You don't know what you're doing, Sam."
"Yes, I do." Sam replied.
"Then that's worse." Angela whispered.
"Why? Look, I'm telling you—
"Because it's not something you're doing, it's what you are!" Angela exclaimed. "It means—Angela cut herself off. She couldn't say it…
"What?" Sam challenged. "No. Say it."
"It means you're a monster." Dean finished.
Sam nodded. A tear fell from Dean's eyes; Sam didn't see it before he punched Dean. Dean went down hard, then back up and watched Sam for a moment before punching back.
~/~\~
Sam and Dean fought, Sam dominating. Anything in the room that could break does. Dean hit the floor and didn't get up. Sam pinned him down, choking him. Angela tried to pull Sam off of Dean, but was shoved backwards onto the floor. Sam let go of Dean.
"You don't know me. Neither of you do. You never did. And you never will." Sam spat, walking away.
Angela glared and clenched her jaw as he walked away.
"You walk out that door, don't you ever come back." Dean said.
Sam stopped at the door and turned back, then left.
A/N: Hey guys, sorry this is late again . Also, the moment where Sam & Angie got into a small fight wasn't as big as I planned. I edited as much as I could but I don't know... I think it came out okay. Hope you all enjoyed!
Don't forget to review, review, review! Love y'all!
