Lucifer Rising Part 1
Sam and Ruby were standing by an orange car that was in front of a country house. Sam was brooding.
"Sam? Your head in the game here?" Ruby asked.
There was a pause. "I'm good. Let's go."
"You okay?"
"I just said I was." Sam replied.
"Look, I know hand-holding really isn't my thing… but still, Dean and Angela were wrong, saying what they said to you."
"No, they were right to say it. To say everything they said." Sam murmured. "I mean, I don't blame them after what I did."
"Well, after we're done, you guys will patch things up. I mean, you always do." Ruby shrugged.
"You're talking like I've got an 'after'." Sam said.
"Don't say that." Ruby replied.
"I can feel it inside me, Ruby. I've changed… for good. And there's no going back now."
"Sam—Ruby started.
"Look, I know what I gotta do. It's okay. I'm just saying, Dean and Angie are better off as far away from me as possible. Anyways. Doesn't matter, let's just get this done with."
They got in the car.
~/~\~
Dean was staring out the window and Angela was next to him. Bobby stood behind them.
"Dean? Angie? Dean! Angie!" Bobby tried to get their attention. "You two listen to a word I said?"
"Yeah, we heard you." Dean replied. "We're not calling him."
"Don't make me get my gun." Bobby warned.
Dean turned to face him. "We are damn near kickoff for Armageddon, don't you think we got bigger fish at the moment?"
"I know you two are pissed. And I'm not making apologies for what he's done, but he's your—
"Blood?" Dean asked. "He's my blood, is that what you were gonna say?"
"He's your family. And he's drowning." Bobby said.
"Bobby, we tried to help him, we did." Angela murmured. "Look what happened."
"So try again."
"It's too late." Dean replied.
"There's no such thing." Bobby said.
"No, dammit!" Dean yelled. "No. I gotta face the facts. Sam never wanted part of this family. He hated this life growing up. Ran away to Stanford first chance he got. Now it's like déjà vu all over again." Dean sat down. "Well, I am sick and tired of chasing him. Screw him, he can do what he wants."
"You don't mean that." Bobby whispered. He looked at Angela for some sort of help, but Angela just shrugged.
"Yes I do, Bobby." Dean said. "He's gone. I'm not even sure if he's still my brother anymore. If he ever was."
Bobby turned and leaned on the table, fuming. After a moment he made a big angry sweep with his hands, tossing books and papers to the ground. He advanced on Dean and Angela. Dean stood.
"You stupid, stupid son of a bitch!" Bobby yelled. "Well, boo hoo, I am sorry your feelings are hurt, princess! Are you under the impression that family's supposed to make you feel good?! Make you an apple pie, maybe? They're supposed to make you miserable! That's why they're family!"
"I told him, 'you walk out that door, don't come back' and he walked out anyway! That was his choice!" Dean replied.
"You sound like a whiny brat. No, you sound like your dad. Well, let me tell you something. Your dad was a coward." Bobby said.
"My dad was a lot of things, Bobby, but a coward?"
"He'd rather push Sam away than reach out to him. Well, that doesn't strike me as brave. You are a better man than your daddy ever was. So you do us a favor. Don't be him." Bobby said. He turned to Angela. "And you. You love Sam. I know he hurt you, and I'm not excusing that. But you love him, you love that boy. And love's gonna be hard, it's gonna take work, but you two'll figure it out."
Angela nodded and Dean turned back to staring at the window. They both turned slowly, looking around in confusion. Angela and Dean were suddenly in an angelic green room.
~/~\~
Dean and Angela found themselves in a large, lavishly appointed room. The walls were painted white with gold trim and accents, and a marble table stood in the center. Castiel was there.
"Hello, Dean, Angela." Castiel said. "It's almost time."
~/~\~
"We're going to the nursery, sugar, let mommy and daddy get some sleep." The demonic nurse said. "He's a beautiful child. Absolutely scrumptious."
"Patty-cake, patty-cake, baker's man bake me a cake as fast as you can." She sang.
She pushed the bassinette through a door and into an abandoned corridor.
"Pat it and roll it." Her eyes turned black. "And mark it with a 'b'. And put it in the oven—
She was suddenly dragged backwards by an unseen force and hurdled against the far wall. Sam approached her calmly, Ruby behind him
"So. We need to talk." Sam said.
~/~\~
Dean and Angela poked around the room, looking at the magnificent pastoral paintings on the walls. They turned back to the table and found that it now held two silver bowls packed with ice. One bowl held beer and the other held old fashioned coke bottles. It also held two platters, one held hamburgers and the other held chocolate chip cookie bars. Dean picked up a beer bottle and looked at it and Angela did the same with a coke bottle.
"Hello, Dean, Angela." Zachariah greeted.
They replaced the bottles.
"Well, how 'bout this? 'The suit life of Zach and Cas." Dean said.
Castiel and Zachariah had blank looks on their faces.
"It's a… never mind." Dean said. "So, what is this? Where the hell are we?"
"Call it a Green room." Zachariah replied. "We're closing in on the grand finale, here. We want to keep you two safe before show time." He shrugged. He gestured to the platters. "Try a burger, Dean. They're your favorite. From that seaside shack in Delaware. You were 11, I think. And Angie, try a cookie bar, you used to make them with your dad, yeah?"
"We're not hungry." Dean said.
"No? How about Ginger from season 2 of 'Gilligan's Island'? You do have a thing for her, don't you?"
"Tempting. Weird."
"We'll throw in Mary Ann for free." Zachariah said. "And we can get you a little something, Angie."
"No." she glared, her jaw clenched.
"No, no. Let's… bail on the holodeck, okay? We want to know what the game plan is." Dean said.
"Let us worry about that. We want you two… focused, relaxed."
"Well, we're about to be pissed and leaving, so start talking, Chuckles." Angela glared.
Zachariah sighed. "All the seals have fallen. Except one."
"That's an impressive score. That's… that's right up there with the Washington Generals." Dean replied.
"You think sarcasm's appropriate, do you?" Zachariah asked Dean. "Considering… you started all this? But the final seal… it'll be different."
"Why?" Angela asked.
"Lilith has to break it." Zachariah replied. "She's the only one that can. Tomorrow night, midnight."
"Where?" Angela asked.
"We're working on it."
"Well, work harder." She replied.
"We'll do our job. You just make sure you do yours." Zachariah said.
"Yeah, and what is that, exactly?" Angela raised a brow. "If we're supposed to be the ones that stop her, how? With the knife?"
"All in good time." Zachariah replied.
"Isn't now a good time?" Dean asked.
"Have faith."
"What, in you?" Angela scoffed. "Give me one good reason why we should."
Zachariah got in Angela's face. "Because you two swore your obedience. So obey."
Angela looked past him at Castiel, who looked down guiltily.
~/~\~
There was a flickering wood fire in the corner that provided the only light for the room. The demonic nurse was laid out on the table; Sam and Ruby stood above her.
The demonic nurse struggled. "What, no devil's trap?"
"I don't need one." Sam replied.
"Look at you, all 'roided up. It's like A-Rod and Madonna over here." The demonic nurse smirked.
"Where's Lilith?" Sam glared.
"I'm not scared of you."
"Yeah, you are, actually. And with good reason."
"Look… what's my upside?" the demonic nurse asked. "Okay, I tell you, you kill me. I don't tell you, you still kill me. I get away somehow, Lilith will definitely kill me. So where's my carrot?"
"I think what you should be worrying about is what happens before you die." Sam replied.
Sam reached out a hand and concentrated. She began to scream in agony.
~/~\~
Dean and Angela were now alone in the room. Dean was pacing. He held his phone and considered it.
"Ah, screw it." He muttered.
He opened his phone and dialed.
"It's Sam. Leave a message." The recording said. There was a beep.
"Hey, it's me. Uh…" Dean cleared his throat. "Look, I'll just get right to it. I'm still pissed… and I owe you a serious beat down. But… I shouldn't have said what I said. You know, I'm not Dad. We're brothers. You know, we're family. And, uh… no matter how bad it gets, that doesn't change. Sammy, I'm sorry."
There was a beep and Dean hung up.
~/~\~
The demonic nurse was still screaming in agony. "Stop! Stop! Please!"
"You'll tell me where she is?" Sam asked.
"Fine. Fine. Just… let me die."
Sam dropped his dead. "Deal."
The demonic nurse breathed heavily. "Tomorrow night, midnight. She's gonna be at a convent, St. Mary's, Ilchester, Maryland."
"A convent?" Sam asked.
"Lilith… she's gonna break the final seal."
"And what is the final seal?" Sam asked.
"I don't know." The demonic nurse replied.
Sam began to torture her again.
"Aaaah! I don't know! I don't know!" she sobbed. "I don't know! I swear! Please! I'm begging you. Kill me, please!"
"Fine." Sam replied.
He reached out his hand to kill her; Ruby grabbed his arm and stopped him.
"Wait. You can't."
"Why not?" Sam asked.
"Because we've got to take her with us." Ruby replied. "It's the final run on the Death Star, and you need more juice than I got."
"You promised." The demonic nurse cut in.
"Sorry, sister. You're a walking, talking can of whup-ass." Ruby shrugged.
"You bitch!"
"I know. Just can't trust anyone these days." Ruby replied.
The demonic nurse settled back. "Well, least you won't be able to crack me open that easy."
"That so?" Ruby raised a brow.
"Don't forget, it's not just me you're bleeding. In fact, I think I'm gonna take a little… siesta in the subconscious, hand over the wheel for a bit."
"What are you talking about?" Sam asked.
"Cindy McClellan, R.N., come on down!" the demonic nurse smirked.
She shut her eyes and relaxed; the host woke up and gasped.
"What…" Cindy groaned. "Where am I?" she struggled. "Oh, my god, I can't move. What's going on? Help! Help me, please."
"Great." Ruby said, annoyed.
~/~\~
Sam was doing research on his laptop. Ruby stood behind him.
"You got to be kidding me." Sam said.
"What?"
"Get this." He started. "St. Mary's, abandoned in '72 after a priest disemboweled eight nuns." Sam read.
Ruby smirked. "What's black and white and red all over?"
"That's not funny." Sam replied. "The priest said it wasn't his fault. He said a demon made him do it. And that he even remembered the demon's name."
"Yeah?" Ruby asked.
"Azazel." Sam replied.
"Wow." Ruby said. "So, Lilith, Yellow-Eyes, all the A-listers are paying visits. Certainly gives the joint credibility."
"As a place where the final seal goes down."
"Well, it's good enough for me. Let's pack up Nurse Betty and hot the road." Ruby said.
"Hey, maybe, um… look." Sam started.
"What?"
"M-maybe we can find another demon." He suggested.
"Sam, no. That blubbery 'don't hurt me' crap, it's just an act. She's playing you."
"I'm not so sure." Sam muttered.
"Even if she's non, there's still a hell-bitch snoozing in there. I mean, come on. It's not like you haven't done this before."
~/~\~
Sam manhandled Cindy down the steps and out to the car. She was struggling, pleasing with him. He was trying very hard to ignore it.
"No. Please don't." she said. "Just listen to me, okay? My name is Cindy McClellan. I'm a nurse in the NICU over at Enfield Memorial. I have a husband named Matthew, okay? We've been married six years. He's got to be worried sick about me. And I don't even know who you are, and I'm not gonna tell anybody anything. Please just let me go."
Sam opened the trunk; she started screaming.
"No! No! Please, no! Please—
Sam shoved her in the trunk and shut it.
"Help!" Cindy yelled from inside the trunk.
Sam leaned on the trunk breathing heavily.
~/~\~
Dean and Angela were frustrated. Dean poked at one of the numerous figurines on one of the many mantelpieces and tipped it deliberately to the ground. It shattered with a crash just as Castiel appeared behind them. He turned around and Angela looked up. Dean looked slightly guilty.
"You asked to see me?" Castiel asked.
Angela nodded and walked over to Castiel. "Yeah, listen, I, uh, we, we need something."
"Anything you wish." Castiel replied.
"We need you to take us to see Sam." Angela said.
"Why?" Castiel asked.
"There's something we gotta talk to him about." Dean said.
"What's that?"
"The B.M. I took this morning." Dean said sarcastically. "What's it to you? Just make it snappy."
"I don't think that's wise." Castiel replied.
"Well, we didn't ask for your opinion." Dean said.
"Have you forgotten what happened last time you met?"
"No." Angela replied. "That's the whole point, Cas. We're gonna do whatever you guys want, okay? We just need to tie up this one thing. Five minutes, please, that's all we need."
"No." Castiel replied.
Angela frowned, getting more frustrated. "What do you mean, no? Are you saying we're trapped here?"
"You can go wherever you want."
"Super. We want to see Sam." Dean replied.
"Except there."
"We want to take a walk." Dean shrugged.
"Fine. I'll go with you." Castiel replied.
"Just Angie and I."
"No." Castiel replied.
"You know what? Screw this noise? We're out of here, come on Angie." Dean headed for the door.
"Through what door?" Castiel asked.
Dean turned to face him, frowning. When he turned back, the door had been replaced by a smooth wall. He turned back to face Castiel, who had also disappeared.
"Dammit." Dean groaned.
~/~\~
Ruby was driving, Sam was in the passenger seat staring at his cell phone, which displayed '1 new voicemail from: Dean'. He wasn't playing it. Cindy screamed in the trunk.
"What are you, a 12-year-old girl?" Ruby asked. "Just play it already."
"Mind your own business." Sam replied.
"Let me out! Let me out!" Cindy thumped on the roof of the trunk.
"God, I wish she would just shut up." Sam said.
"Well, that can be arranged." Ruby replied. "I don't get it. All the demons you cut with the knife, what do you think happens to the host? How is this any different?"
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?"
"I know that you're having a tough time here, Sam, but we're in the final lap here. Now is not the time to grow a persqueeter."
"Would you drop the friggin' attitude?" Sam asked. "I'm about to bleed and drink an innocent woman. While she watches."
"And save the world as a result."
"I don't know." Sam sighed. "I, I just… I'm starting to think… maybe Dean and Angie were right."
"About what?" Ruby asked.
"About everything."
"We're gonna see this through, right, Sam? Sam?" Ruby asked.
"Let me out! Let me out!" Cindy screamed, thumping on the roof of the trunk.
~/~\~
Dean was attempting to break through a wall with a pedestal. Angela looked over and sighed. Dean had smashed through to the foundations, but when he paused, the wall repaired itself. He threw the pedestal to the floor.
"Son of a bitch." Dean said.
"Quit hurling feces like a howler monkey, would you?" Zachariah suddenly appeared. "It's unbecoming."
"Let us out of here." Angela glared.
"Like I told you: too dangerous out there. Demons on the prowl."
"We've been getting our asses kicked all year. Now you're sweating our safety?" Dean replied. "You're lying. We want to see Sam."
"That's… ill-advised."
"You know, I am so sick of your crap riddles and smug, fat face." Angela spat. "What the hell is going on, huh? Why can't we see Sam? And how are we gonna ice Lilith?"
Zachariah sighed. "You're not… going to ice Lilith."
"What?" Dean and Angela asked.
"Lilith's going to break the final seal, Fait accompli at this point. Train's left the station."
"But me, Angie and Sam, we can stop…" Dean cut off, having an epiphany. "You don't want to stop it, do you?"
"Nope. Never did. The end is night. The apocalypse is coming, kiddos, to a theater near you."
"What was all that crap about saving seals?" Angela asked.
"Our grunts on the ground, we couldn't just tell them the whole truth." Zachariah shrugged. "We'd have a full-scale rebellion on our hands. I mean, think about it. Would we really let 65 seals get broken unless senior management wanted it that way?"
"But why?" Angela asked.
"Why not? The apocalypse? Poor name, bad marketing, puts people off. When all it is, is Ali/Foreman. On a… slightly larger scale. And we like our chances. When our side wins, and we will, it's paradise on earth. Now, what's not to like about that?"
"What happens to all the people during your little pissing contest?" Dean asked.
"Well… you can't make an omelet without cracking a few eggs. In this case… truckloads of eggs, but you get the picture. Look… it happens. This isn't the first planetary enema we've delivered." He noticed Angela eyeing a statue on a mantelpiece. "Uh, no, Angela. Probably shouldn't try to bash my skull in with that thing. Wouldn't end up too pleasant for you."
"What about Sam?" Angela asked. "He won't go quietly. He'll stop Lilith."
Zachariah inhaled deeply. "Sam… has a part to play. A very important part. He may need a little nudging in the right direction, but I'll make sure he plays it."
"What does that mean?" Angela asked. "What are you gonna do to him?"
"Sam, Sam, Sam. Marcia, Marcia, Marcia. Forget about him, would you? You two have larger concerns. Why do you think I'm confiding in you? You two are still vital. We weren't lying about your destiny. Just… omitted a few pertinent details. But nothing's changed. You are chosen. You two will stop it. Just… not Lilith, or the apocalypse. That's all."
"Which means?" Dean asked.
Zachariah gestured to a painting of two angels and chuckles. "Trust me, one day, we'll look back on this and laugh."
"Tell us something. Where's God in all this?" Angela asked.
"God? God has left the building."
A/N: Hey guys! We're nearing the end of DLaA! I can't believe it! Also I'm actually super sorry about the Sam/Angie scene yesterday. Like I hyped it up to be something big and it turned out to be a little fizzle. I had how I wanted it in my head but I couldn't put it into words. So I do apologize greatly. I do want them to have a heart felt conversation about all of this in the next installment though. Speaking of the next installment, the first chapter will be posted October 5th!
Don't forget to review, review, review! Love y'all!
