Lucifer Rising Part 2

Dean was attempting to call Sam again. He dialed the phone, but heard only static. Castiel appeared behind him and Angela.

"You can't reach him, Dean." Castiel said. "You're outside your coverage zone."

"What are you gonna do to Sam?" Angela turned to face Castiel.

"Nothing. He's gonna do it to himself."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Dean asked. Castiel looked down. "Oh, right, right. Got to toe the company line. Why are you here, Cas?"

"We've been through much together, you, Angela and I." Castiel replied. "And I just wanted to say, I'm sorry it ended like this."

Angela clenched her jaw and shook her head. "Right." She whispered. She pursed her lips. "Doesn't cut it Cas, sorry." She shrugged.

Dean nodded in agreement. "'Sorry'?" he scoffed. He punched Castiel, who barely flinched. Dean flexed his hand in pain. "It's Armageddon, Cas. You need a bigger word than 'sorry.'"

"Try to understand, this is long foretold. This is your…"

"Destiny?" Dean asked. "Don't give us that 'holy' crap. Destiny, God's plan… it's all a bunch of lies, you poor, stupid son of a bitch! It's just a way for your bosses to keep us and you in line! You know what's real? People, families, that's real. And you're gonna watch them all burn?"

"What is so worth saving?" Castiel asked. "I see nothing but pain here. I see inside of you two." He said. He looked at Dean. "I see your guilt, your anger, confusion." He added. He looked at Angela. "I see your pain, the hurt, betrayal. In paradise, all is forgiven. You'll be at peace. Even with Sam."

"You can take your peace… and shove it up your lily-white ass." Dean shrugged. "'Cause we'll take the pain and the guilt. We'll even take Sam as is. It's a lot better than being some Stepford bitch in paradise. This is simple, Cas! No more crap about being a good soldier. There is a right and there is a wrong here, and you know it."

Castiel looked away.

"Look at us!" Dean snapped. Dean grabbed Castiel's shoulder and turned him back to face them.

"What would you have me do?" Castiel asked.

"Get us to Sam, please Cas." Angela whispered. "We can stop this before it's too late, please."

"I do that, we will all be hunted, Angela. We'll all be killed." Castiel warned.

"Cas, if there is anything worth dying for… this is it." Angela replied.

Castiel shook his head and looked down.

Angela frowned and sighed/

"You spineless…" Dean turned to walk away. "…soulless son of a bitch." Dean finished. "What do you care about dying?" he scoffed. "You're already dead. We're done."

"Dean, Angela—

"He said we're done, Castiel!" Angela snapped, frustrated. She turned away from him.

Castiel looked at Angela and sighed a bit. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it. When Dean turned to look behind him, Castiel was gone.

Sam stood before a sign that read: St. Mary's Convent, 2 miles. Ruby was a few paces behind him, by the car. Cindy could still be faintly heard screaming and pounding in the trunk.

"Sam, it's time." Ruby said. "Are we doing this or not."

"Give me a minute to think."

"Sam—

"Give me a damn minute, Ruby!" Sam yelled.

"Better think fast."

Sam surreptitiously pulled his cell phone from his pocket and pressed a button.

"First unheard message." The voice on the phone said. "Listen to me, you bloodsucking freak." Dean's voice said. "Dad always said I'd either have to save you or kill you. Well, I'm giving you fair warning. I'm done trying to save you. You're a monster, Sam, a vampire. You're not you anymore. And there's no going back." He said. There was a beep.

Ruby smirked behind his back. Close to tears, Sam slowly lowered the phone and shut it off.

"Do it." Sam said.

"Thank god." Ruby opened the trunk.

"No!" Cindy screamed and struggled.

"Castiel!" Zachariah yelled. "Would you mind explaining just what the hell you're doing?"

Castiel finished drawing and slammed his hand in the center of the sigil. In a violent flash of white light, Zachariah vanished.

"He won't be gone long. We have to find Sam now." Castiel said urgently.

"Where is he?" Dean and Angela asked.

"I don't know. But I know who does. We have to stop him, from killing Lilith."

"But Lilith's gonna break the final seal." Dean said.

"Lilith is the final seal. She dies, the end begins." Castiel replied.

Chuck was on the phone with what appeared to be an escort service. He was pacing in his kitchen. The document on his computer screen read 'Supernatural, Lucifer Rising by Carver Edlund'.

"Oh, yeah? Really?" he asked. "At the same time? Really? Wow. T-that sounds… moist."

The woman on the phone laughed. "Well, it can be."

"Uh, what are your rates?"

"We can get you one girl, one hour, $1,000." The woman said.

"Okay. Then, uh, I'll take 20 girls for the whole night."

"I'm not sure you can afford that."

"Lady, sometimes you got to live like there's no tomorrow." Chuck replied.

Castiel, Dean and Angela appeared suddenly. Chuck looked up in shock.

"Wait." Chuck murmured. "T-t-this isn't supposed to happen."

"Sir?" the woman asked.

"No, lady, this is definitely supposed to happen, but I just got to call you back." Chuck hung up. "I…" he looked at Dean, Castiel and Angela.

Lilith had acquired a number of demonic minions and was setting up something ritual-like at the altar. A minion approached her nervously, holding a chalice full of blood. He handed to her and looked down. She smiled at him.

"Don't be afraid." She cooed. "We're going to save the world."

He walked away and she turned her back. There was a sudden deep rumbling noise. When she turned back, all of the minions that had been lining the hallway had collapsed to the ground. Around the corner, Sam appeared. He stalked forward deliberately. Lilith raised her hand; the door between her and Sam slammed shut.

~/~\~

"St. Mary's? What is that, a convent?" Dean asked.

"Yeah, but you guys aren't supposed to be there. You're not in this story." Chuck replied.

"Yeah, well…" Castiel glanced at Dean and Angela. "We're making it up as we go."

Chuck's computer screen flickered as a great rumbling began, accompanied by a blinding white light.

"Aw, man!" Chuck groaned. "Not again! No!"

"I'll hold him off! I'll hold them all off! Just stop Sam!" Castiel told Dean and Angela. Castiel touched them on the forehead, transporting them away.

~/~\~

Dean and Angela appeared in an empty part of the convent, looked around and walked down a hallway.

~/~\~

Sam entered the sanctuary and flung out a hand. Lilith was flung across the room, slamming into the altar and falling to the ground. Sam, with Ruby behind him, advanced on Lilith, and flung out his hand again. Lilith was forced back against the altar. Dean and Angela came around the corner and saw what was happening in the sanctuary. Ruby looked at them and smiled. She put out a hand and the doors to the sanctuary closed.

Sam walked towards Lilith and there was a loud, gradually quickening heartbeat. "I've been waiting for this… for a very long time."

"Then give me your best shot." Lilith smirked.

Sam reached out a hand, throwing his power at her. White light shined on Lilith and she cried out in pain. Sam lowered his hand and the light faded and the heartbeat slowed.

"Sam!" Dean and Angela yelled from the other side of the bolted door.

Sam turned to look at the door.

"Sam!" Angela yelled.

Dean banged on the door. "Sam!"

The sound of the heartbeat took over almost all other sound. Dean and Angela's voices and pounding were distant and faint, but still, Sam turned in confusion.

"Dean? Angie?" Sam murmured.

"What are you waiting for?!" Ruby yelled, even more faint than Dean and Angela to Sam's ears. "Now! Sam, now!"

Lilith laughed. "You turned yourself into a freak. A monster. And now you're not gonna bite? I'm sorry, but that is honestly adorable."

The heartbeat quickened; Sam faced Lilith and raised his hand again. His eyes turned black as he concentrated his power and hurled it at Lilith. She convulsed several times, her body glowing and flickering. At last she went limp. Sam's eyes turned back to normal.

The sound of the heartbeat slowed.

~/~\~

Blood was pouring out of Lilith's body in a steady stream; the stream was flowing in what looked like a very deliberate direction.

"What the hell?" Sam asked.

"I can't believe it." Ruby whispered.

"Ruby, what's going on?"

"You did it. I mean, it was a little touch and go there for a while, but… you did it." She smiled.

"what? What, what did I do?"

"You opened the door. And now he's free at last. He's free at last!"

"No, no, no." Sam said in denial. "No, he, Lilith, I stopped her. I killed her!"

"And it is written that the first demon shall be the last seal. And you bust her open." Ruby said fervently.

Sam put his hands to his head.

"Now guess who's coming to dinner." Ruby smirked.

"Oh, my god." Sam whispered.

"Guess again."

Dean pounded at the door with a large candelabra.

"You don't even know how hard this was!" Ruby exclaimed. "All the demons out for my head. No one knew. I was the best of those sons of bitches! The most loyal! Not even Alastair knew! Only Lilith! Yeah, I'm sure you're a little angry right now, but, I mean, come on, Sam! Even you have to admit, I'm, I'm awesome!"

"You bitch." He said. "You lying bitch!" he thrust his hands at her, trying to use his powers, but he dropped, clutching his head instead.

"Don't hurt yourself, Sammy. It's useless. You shot your payload on the boss."

"The blood… you poisoned me." He glared.

Ruby knelt in front of him. "No. It wasn't the blood. It was you… and your choices. I just gave you the options, and you chose the right path every time. You didn't need the feather to fly, you had it in you the whole time, Dumbo! I know it's hard to see it now… but this is a miracle. So long coming. Everything Azazel did, and Lilith did. Just to get you here. And you were the only one who could do it."

"Why? W-why me?"

"Because… because it had to be you, Sammy. It always had to be you. You saved us. You set him free. And he's gonna be grateful. He's gonna repay you in ways that you can't even imagine."

Dean and Angela finally broke in. Dean looked at Angela and gave her the knife. Ruby stood to confront them.

"You're too late." She smirked.

"I don't care." Angela growled.

Angela advanced on Ruby, clutching the knife tightly. Sam stood and grabbed Ruby from behind, holding her in place. Angela smirked and stabbed Ruby. She flickered with light, them crumpled to the floor, dead.

Sam looked at Angela. "I'm sorry." He said brokenly. He looked at Dean. "I'm so sorry."

The blood pouring out of Lilith had finished its pattern on the floor. A brilliant white light shot up from the central point of the pattern and the convent began to tremble.

"Sammy, Angie, let's go." Dean said.

Sam grabbed Angela's arm and clutched Dean's shirt as Dean grabbed Sam's jacket, and stared at the light.

"Dean… Angie… he's coming." Sam said.

There was another flash of white.
