Finally you're going to find what Boden said to Casey. I am sure that some of you hate me when I finished the last chapter on it =)

Chapter 16: New faces on the firehouse

Matt and Gabby was lying down on her bed kissing. Last night, Matt took her to a restaurant to have dinner and later when they come back to her house, they watched a film cuddled on her couch.

"So, what are you going to do today?" Gabby asked stroking his exposed skin "You didn't tell me what Boden said you when you went to the firehouse"

"I have to go to somewhere" he said avoiding telling her his conversation with Boden

"Where? You sound so mysterious" she joked "It is a construction work?"

"Something like that" he pressed his lips against her "come one, you have to get up or you are going to arrive late to your shift"

"I am going to miss you" she said "twenty-four hours is so much"

"I know" and he gave her one last kiss before go to the shower

"I am going to prepare breakfast"

"Okay baby" he said through the door

One hour later, Gabby was sat near to Shay and the rest of the guys of trucks in the briefing room. Apparently, Boden had to announce something really important to all of them. Dawson couldn't stop of thinking in Casey. During breakfast she tried that him tell him what he and Boden had spoken some days ago but, he never said a word.

"Has anyone known where Lt. Bradley is?" Mills asked "he should be here"

"Who cares about that jerk" Herrmann said

"Herrmann, you should show more respect. He was your Lieutenant" Boden said, entering in the room

"Sorry Chief" he said and sat on a chair

"I hope that you show more respect to our new permanent replacement"

"Replacement? What happened to Bradley?" Mouch asked

"He was someone temporal until I find a permanent Lieutenant to our Truck" All of them looked to him really sad, special Dawson. Matt was right, he had fired him and, he is not going to come back 51. Maybe it was depressed or ashamed and that is why he didn't say anything to her.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door of the room and Boden gave them a look and said "I hope that all of you help to this Lieutenant to feel like home. Come in"

The door was opened and everyone avoided looking to the door, they didn't want to know who was going to be giving them orders during the calls yet. However, their sadness went away immediately after seeing who was in front of them dressed in his uniform and smiling to them.

"oh my God" Much was the first one in saying something

"Casey" Herrmann said getting up of his chair for giving him a quick hug to his Lieutenant. Few seconds later everybody was around their Lieutenant greeting him really glad that he came back to 51. Well, everybody except Severide who was looking him from a side of the room. Matt looked to him and Severide gave him a simple nod.

Truck 81, engine 51. Squad 3, ambulance 61. Building fire. Indiana and 28th place.

"Nothing like a fire to feel like at home, Lieutenant" Cruz joked

"I hope that you didn't forget how to do your job" Herrmann joked and everyone ran to their trucks happy that one of their friends came back home. It has been a long time since the firehouse 51 wasn't complete

After the last flame was put out, all of them packed and come back to the firehouse. Squad 3 was the first one in came back and Severide was waiting Casey on the squad table. He saw Cruz parking the truck on the apparatus floor and he pretended to be reading an article of a magazine. One by one the men of the Truck 81 jumped out of the truck and walked to the common room.

"Good to be back?" he asked to Casey when he walked near to him

"Better than good" He smiled and continued walking to the common room

"Hey, how was fishing?"

"It was good" It was the first conversation that they had since one week ago "Jumpin' in the boat" he joked "Got my head cleared"

"so, uh. That's good, man" Severide didn't know what more to say

"Yeah"

Matt sat on a chair "Hey. Thanks for what you did"

"Boden told you?"

"Yeah"

Flashback

"We need to talk" Boden said and grabbed a folder of one of the drawer of his desk "This talk is going to be long Matthew so, why not you take a seat?"

"Yes sir"

"first of all, how are you?"

"I am fine" but, Boden looked him doubting of his answer "Well, some days I don't feel really well but, other I am great. I am still having some nightmare about the clinic fire but, I am working on it" In reality, it was Gabby who was helping him with the nightmares; she woke up him each time that he was moaning on his dream and calmed him down until he fall asleep.

"Good. Matthew, two weeks ago you..."

"I tried to kill myself and, I am sorry Chief" He cut him "I can't understand what I was thinking in that moment for trying something like that. I am sorry" some tears were falling down his cheeks.

"Matt. Calm down" Boden said getting up and walking to him "Calm down, boy"

"I am sorry" he repeated

"Don't worry. What I was going to say you was that you forgot to sign this paper" he said giving to him the document and a pen.

"It is my dismissed?" He asked

"No. It was your permission"

"For what?" he asked shocked looking to the paper

"Read the document before sign it"

Matt dried his tears and read the document. It was a vacation permission of two weeks. Matt looked to Boden surprised since he never asked for a permission

"You have to sign it so; I can send it to the CFDs office"

"Chief" Matt didn't know what to say "Why?"

"It was Severide idea. We took your badge because we need it in order to justify your leave. As far as I know, you leave this firehouse the 14th of June with vacation permission"

"That mean that I can come back to 51?"

"Only if you sign that document"

Without losing a second, he took the pen and sign the document "Thanks chief"

"You should say thanks to Severide. It was his idea"

"Are you ready to resume your duties?"

"Yes Sir"

"Welcome back, Lieutenant" and Boden gave him his badge.

"Thanks but, what about main? I mean what is going to happen when they find out what I did" he said ashamed

"They are not going to know anything. All that they know was that you suffered stomach flu and you were in the hospital because of that"

"But, my doctor is not going to say that in his report"

"I already have spoken with him and with your psychologist. They are agree with this as long as you speak with your psychologist or with someone else the next time that you feel depressed"

"Deal" he said smiling

End of the Flashback

"Thanks Severide"

"You are welcome" he said "Do you want to go to Molly's tomorrow night and drink a beer with me and the guys?"

"Sure. I will be there" he smiled and continued walking to the common room.

Gabby was sat on the couch with Pouch on her lap; she was petting the dog and stopped when she saw Matt entering in the room. She gave him a dirty look and he went to sat on the couch with her.

"why didn't you say that you were come back?" she whispered since they weren't alone on the room

"I wanted it to be a surprise" he said on his defense "Aren't you happy that I came back?"

"of course that I am. It is going to be a little difficult to have you here but, I can manage"

"Why it has to be difficult?"

"Because I wish that I could kiss you right now. But, we are on shift and with everyone around us"

"Well, you can do it when we come back home tomorrow morning"

"Yeah. You will to wait until tomorrow" She said and walked to the apparatus floor to restock the ambulance feeling his eyes on her

"So" Shay said giving her a curious look "Casey is back"

"Yeah. It was a great surprise. He didn't say me anything"

"And, how's he?"

"Um, first I saw him was this morning since you and I left the cabin one week ago" she lied not wanting to explain her why she went to the cabin few days ago because it would mean that she will have to tell her everything "but he looked better"

"And?"

"And?" Dawson asked not understanding her friend

"And?" Shay asked a little frustrated that she wasn't saying anything to her

"And he needs a friend"

"He needs something more than a friend, all right" she teased and Gabby's cheeks turned red

"Oh my God" Shay said laughing "Look at you. All lit up like a Christmas tree. Come on tell me. Give some juicy details. Did you kiss him?"

"I am not going to tell you nothing"

"He kissed you"

"Stop" and Gabby threw her a gauzes pack

"I am going to find the truth Gabriela Dawson" and, they continued restocking the ambulance

Later Dawson was sat on the common room together with the rest of the guys, who was watching the hockey match when her phone buzzed inside of her pocket. She looked it and saw that it was a message from Casey. Curiously she got up of her chair and walked to the apparatus floor checking that nobody was around. She approached to the back of the ambulance an opened the door to find him laying down on the stretcher with his hands under his neck smiling to her.

"Oh, my God" she laughed nervously looking around "You're crazy"

"A little, yeah" he smiled

"Casey, we can't we can't do this"

"Not with that attitude. Come on" he made a sign with his hand indicating her to enter in the ambulance

"You're out of your mind" she said entering in the ambulance and closing the door

"You're amazing" he said grabbing her by her arm and putting her body closer to her "I can't wait until tomorrow morning" he pressed his lips against hers.

"Neither can I" she kissed his lips and her hands travelled to the hem of his grey polo Lieutenant shirt.

Ambulance 61, truck 81, Squad 3 victim in distress. Bosworth and Waveland.

"Come on" Matt said angry "I have to go"

"Yeah you should" she said tucking her shirt in her work pants "see you later" and she gave him a quick kiss on his lips.

Matt and Gabby jumped outside of the ambulance and he walked to his truck like if nothing happened while she went to the driver seat of the ambulance.

"You didn't see anything" he said to Pouch that was the only one who saw him and Gabby walking out of the ambulance at the same time. The dog moved her tail and ran to the couch of the common room "Good girl"

The rest of the shift was normal; they have a few calls but nothing too serious. Everybody was getting ready to leave when Boden told them to meet him on the briefing room.

"I can't wait to be at home" Otis said

"Neither of us, buddy"

"I have a announcement to do. We are going to have two new members in this firehouse. One is going to join to the Squad 3 and the other one is a Candidate. Besides, we are going to have a visitor during the next couple of shifts"

"You don't sound so happy chief. Is everything alright?"

"her name is Gail McLeod and, she has been hired by the state fire marshal's office to rein in the disbursement of state money to the Chicago Fire Department. It is possible that they want to close our firehouse" he said and everyone looked him completely shocked with the unexpected news.

What is McLeod going to do? Will Matt and Kelly speak about what happened between them? Will firehouse 51 closed?

If you want I will try to include more casual meeting between Matt and Gabby in the firehouse.
