Hi how are you doing?

I am so sorry for the delay. I have been busy in the last couple of weeks with the university and with other stuff.

I hope that you like this new chapter. I am not pretty sure if I did it well or not; I had to re-write it a few times. So, I would really appreciate if you let me some reviews.

Chapter 18: Getting closure (part 1)

Matt and the rest of the guys ran just behind Capp to the cold street of Chicago; a strong smell of gas could be smelled in the air. In front of them, Phil was standing up near to Casey's truck; he had a gas can on his hands and was spilling all the content of the can over Matt's truck.

"Phil" Matt yelled approaching to him

"Case" Severide tried to avoid that Matt could get closer to Phil by grabbing him of his jacket but, it was worthless. Casey approached to man walking slowly with his hands up

"Phil, let the can on the ground" Casey said trying to sound relaxed when in reality he was pretty worried

Severide swore as he saw how his friend was approaching to the man

"Herrmann, do you have an extinguisher in the bar?" Capp asked

"Behind the bar counter. I'll bring it"

"You killed my daughter" Phil said. He was still holding the can so, with each of his movements the content of the can was poured to the ground. The spilled gas was really near to where he and Casey were standing up "It is your fault that she is dead. You are the one who should have died in that fire instead of her" he had tears on his eyes

"I am so sorry Phil. Like the police said she was already dead when my company arrived to the scene. We couldn't do anything. No one could have saved her in that situation"

"You are lying. She was alive but, you and that friend of yours" he said pointing with his jaw to Gabby "let her die on back of the ambulance 61"

"I loved her. She was really important for me. Phil, you don't want to do this"

"Let me ask you a question Matthew. If you loved her why did you broke your engagement?" he yelled mad

"We wanted different things" He made a pause "I wanted to have kids and she didn't. She preferred her career as a doctor rather than start to form our own family"

"That is not true" Phil said crying "When she came back from South America, she told to her mother and me that she wanted to try to have kids with you. That you were gonna be the perfect father. She wanted to marry you"

"She never said me a word about that" Matt said shocked of the news. Hallie always told him that she wasn't ready for having kids so, what made her to change her mind during her travel to South America? And why she never told him a word about it?

"She had just come back to Chicago" he said crying out "She was so enthusiastic with meeting you again. She wanted to take it slowly"

"We meet in her place in order to exchange our stuff and we spoke. If she wanted to start fresh why didn't she tell me?" When Phil wasn't paying attention to him, Casey got closer to him.

"Don't dare to lie me, kid. You used her for having sex that night. That was all that you wanted from her" he yelled angry

"I didn't use her" he explained himself

"Yes you did. You just wanted to get laid and when you got tired of her, you killed her during the ride to the hospital" he explained his theory of what happened

"Hallie died in my arms while I was trying to save her of the fucking fire!" Matt yelled tired of being accused of something that he didn't do

Phil looked him with furious glance in his eyes "So, it was true than she was alive when you arrived to the clinic"

He doubted what to say. He has been asking himself that question during the last couple of weeks "She was barely alive. I am sorry"

"It is too late for saying sorry" he grabbed his lighter ready to set fire to the gasoline "We are gonna meet with her soon, kid" Phil threw the lighter to the gasoline and as soon as the flame touched the spilled gasoline it started to burn letting both men trapped in the middle of a fire circle.

The fire spread to Matt's truck, the two back tires and the towing were in flames. There wasn't any way of getting out of the flames that with each second were approaching dangerously to Matt and Phil.

"Casey" Severide said running to his friend "Casey" he tried to find a way of helping his friend but, there wasn't "Crap" the heat was so intensive and he had to cover his face with his hands.

"Severide, get out of here!" Matt said frightened that the gas deposit of his truck could explode in any second.

"Severide" Herrmann said with the extinguisher in his hands. He tried to extinguish the fire as far as he could but, it was impossible.

"Matt" Gabby whispered feeling impotent as there wasn't so much that she could do. She took her phone and called to emergencies

Casey was panting looking to everywhere trying to find a way of saving both of them. Suddenly, he could felt a sharp pain in his left leg. He looked down and saw that the leg of his jeans was burning. He tried to extinguish the flames with his bare legs.

"Casey, behind you" Gabby cried out when she saw that the flames were getting closer and closer to him. Casey turned around just in time to dodged the flames

"Argh" Phil yelled near to Matt. His shoulder and back were in fire. He was trying to extinguish the flames but he couldn't so, Matt helped him. They needed to get out of there and soon.

Casey gulped, took a deep breath and took the hardest decision that he never had taken before. He ran to Phil and pushed him as hard as he could and made that both of them crossed the flames and fell to the ground. Phil's back was still burning and without losing a second, Casey sat on the top of him and with his jacket he tried to put out the fire.

"Casey" Severide let the extinguisher in one side and surrounded the fire sprinting to his friend "You okay?"

"I think so" Casey was breathing heavily "Mr. Thomas?" he checked his pulse "I have a pulse but, he is unconscious. We need an ambulance" he yelled

"Matt" Gabby run to him and crashed in his arms "You okay?" she asked looking him from up to down. His hands were a little red; it was probably that he suffered a first degree burn while he was trying to put out the fire.

"I am fine" he promised smiling to her "Take care of him"

"no way" she said. Tears was still falling down her cheeks "You are hurt too"

"I am fine. I can wait to the ambulance. He can't" She gave him a nod and kneeled near to Phil.

"Dawson, I bring the first aid kit" Otis said letting the bag near to her "You okay Casey?" he said looking to Casey, who was sat on the ground taking some deep breaths.

"Yeah"

Few minutes later, the sirens of a fire truck and an ambulance could be heard. In less than five minutes, the firefighter put out the fire of Matt's truck, which was pretty damaged because of the fire and the water. On the other hand, the EMTs were getting Phil ready for taking him to the nearest hospital.

Matt was sat on a stretcher on the back of other ambulance looking how Phil was being treated of his burns. He had over his hands something like a sterile sheet special for burns; the left leg of his trouser was cut and his burn was partially visible. He was so immersed in his thought that he didn't realized that Gabby had taking a seat near to him until she placed her hand on his thigh.

"You okay, baby?" she asked. She wanted to be able of hugging him in that moment but, they had a deal. Thus, she had to resign herself.

"Yeah, I am fine" he gave her a forced smile but, she didn't trust him "Seriously, I gonna be fine" he made a pause and pointed with his jaw to the stretcher in which Phil's was "Where are they taking him?"

"Chicago Med" Gabby said "Like you"

"No way" he tried to get up of the stretcher but Gabby's hand stopped him "I am fine. I don't need to go to the hospital" he didn't want to come back to the hospital because it remembered him when he had to be there after he swallowed the pills over a month ago. He was afraid of having to spend other night there alone in one of that creepy room.

"Baby, you need to be checked out by a doctor"

"I thought that you were a doctor" he smirked

"I am something like that" she said smiling

One of the EMT entered in the back of the ambulance interrupting their conversation "Miss, I am afraid but, we have to take him to the Chicago Med. You can meet him there if you want"

"Okay"

She was going to jump out of the ambulance when Matt said "Can she come with me?"

"Only members of the patient's family are allowed to ride with us on the back of the ambulance, sir. I am sorry"

"She is my girlfriend" he tried to hold her hand but, he couldn't because of the sterile sheet

The EMT looked to Gabby and gave them a nod "In that case, you are more than welcome to come with us if you want, Miss"

Gabby looked to Matt, who was smiling to her and she said "I would love it" she sat near the stretcher and hold Matt's hand. She had a wide smile on her face. That was the first time that they told to somebody that they were together as a couple and, it made her so happy. She has been waiting for so long to hear him to say that she was his girlfriend.

The EMT closed the back door and told to her partner that they were ready to leave. Few seconds later the ambulance was in its way to the Chicago Med.

"You okay?" Matt asked her since she was like in other part

"Yeah. I am so happy" He pressed his lips against hers making that she slightly blushed since they weren't alone in the back of the ambulance. The EMT was working on the burn of Matt's leg, which was the worse one.

"I am also happy" he whispered

Seven minutes later, the ambulance was parked in the bay of the Chicago Med where Det. Dawson together with Hank Voight and Jay Halstead were already there waiting to Matt and Gabby.

"I will see you later" she told to Matt and rubbed his forearm. She saw how the EMTs took him inside of the hospital before approaching to her brother.

"Hi Gabby" Antonio greeted his little sis "Is he gonna be okay?"

"Yeah. He has a first degree burn in his hand and in his left leg"

"Glad of hearing it" He made a pause and continued speaking "We have cops with Mr. Thomas and we are gonna speak with his wife"

"Good. Is he going to have charges, right?"

Antonio looked to his boss "Only if Casey wants to press charges against him" Voight said

"What?" Gabby said furious looking to Voight "He almost burned alive my boy-" she stopped before continuing speaking when she realized that nobody, even her own brother know that he and she were together "Casey" she looked away. Her brother gave her a curious look; he had the feeling that there was something that Gabby wasn't telling them.

"I know" Voight said "But, all that we can do is to press charges for public scandal because he burned Casey's truck"

"Are you kidding me, right?"

"No" Antonio said

"What about the notes that he has been sending to him during weeks and, the phone calls? We can use that, right?"

"Only if Casey wants to present charges, he will be charged" Voight said

"We will speak with Casey when his doctor finishes of checking his burns. Halstead, you will talk with Mrs. Thomas and, I will take the husband. Dawson, you speak with Casey" Voight said and entered in the hospital followed by Jay.

"So" Antonio said looking funny to Gabby "You and Casey, eh?"

"What?" Gabby said trying to sound relaxed. Her checks were already red "I don't know what you are talking about"

"Seriously? Do you think that I am stupid?" he said laughing "come on, Gabby"

"no" she said looking to the ground

"I am glad for you Gabby. He is a really nice guy" he slapped her shoulder and both sibling entered in the hospital.

"Are you out of your mind, man?" Severide said raising his hands "I can't believe it. That guy almost burns you and, you don't want to press charges against him" Severide looked to Casey "I think that the smoke affected your brain, Case" he joked

Casey was going to say something but, there was a knock on the door of the room and Det. Dawson came in. He looked to Matt's injured and saw that his hands were covered with some sterile gauzes and bandages and, his doctor was working on the burn of his leg.

"How are you?" Dawson asked and took a seat near to Matt

"I'm fine"

"I want to ask you a few questions about what happened in Molly's tonight. It's that okay?"

"Sure"

Before starting to ask him his questions, he looked to Severide and made him a nod for leaving the room.

"I will see you later" Severide grabbed his jacket and said to Det. Dawson "Please, make him to change of opinion. He can let this guy to walk out of this"

After Severide had closed the door behind him, Det. Dawson looked to Matt and asked "What did he mean?"

"I don't want to press charges against Mr. Thomas"

"Why?" Antonio was shocked by his decision. The man has been harassing him for weeks with notes and phone calls and few minutes ago he not only burned his truck but also almost got him killed. So, why didn't he want to press charges?

"He's a grieving father" Matt said "Who can blame him for losing his cool?"

"That is a pretty bad idea, Casey. This guy could do something more dangerous the next time"

"There is not going to be a next time" he said

"are you sure? What about Gabby?" He blamed himself for having to use his little sister for convincing him of pressing charges against Phil "I already know that you like her. So, what if he wants to hurt her the next time"

"I am not going to let that anything bad happen to her" He said serious looking to Antonio. He would never forgive himself if something happen to her.

"I know but, what if Mr. Thomas tries to hurt her the next time instead of you? According to the witness testimony, he insulted Gabby before burning your car"

"I gonna make it clear, I am not going to press charges against him. All that I want is that he pays for the damages of my truck and gets some help. That is all that I want" he didn't want to speak about what could happen in the future above all if it was related with Gabby's safety

Antonio nodded and put his notebook in a pocket inside of his jacket "it looks like you have already made up your mind. In that case I don't have any question"

"Thanks" Antonio was going to offer him a hand shake to him but Matt raised his hands showing him his bandages

"I am sorry Man" he patted him in his shoulder "I will tell Gabby that she can come and sit with you for a while" Matt smiled him

A minute later Gabby entered in the room. By the expression of her face Matt guessed that her brother or Severide had already told her the decision that had taken.

"Are you sure?" Gabby sat on the bedside and brushed his hair out of his forehead "Baby, this is our chance for stopping him"

"No" Matt said "I don't want. He just need some help to get over his loss like I did" he caressed her hand "At first, I was thinking that he was blaming me of her death but, that is not true. He needs to get some closure. He saw us while we were kissing outside of Molly's. He is thinking that I don't care about Halley and it's not true. She was my first love and, that is difficult of forget, doesn't it?" She looked him with a hurt expression "Hey, look at me" he placed his hand under her chin "I love you"

"No, you love her" she said "That is why you rejected me tonight, right?" she said referring to what happened before they left to Molly's

"That is not true. Rejecting you was the worst thing that I have never done. I just wanted to wait a little longer because I don't want that you think that you are a rebound because you aren't, alright?"

"Okay" she said smiling

"Do you know how Phil is doing?"

"He is still in the ICU. His wife is with him"

"I would like to speak with him"

"That is a bad idea"

"Gabby, I need to do it. That is the only way in which both of us will be able of getting over Hallie death"

"I can speak with his doctor" and she added "But later" She take a look of his hands and leg and asked to his doctor "Will he have to spend the night here?"

"I don't think so" The doctor was finishing of bandaging his ankle "He is gonna be okay. He make a full recovery. But, I strongly recommend that he skips at least the next shift thus, his leg can be healed for when he returns. I will bring your discharge papers so you can sign them Mr. Casey" and he let the room

"No way, I am not gonna skip another shift. I just come back one shift ago" he said annoyed

"You heard your doctor" Gabby said "you are not going to come back to the firehouse until he gives you the all clear"

"no way. I can do light duty. I am gonna speak with Boden"

"And I can tie you to the headboard of my bed just for being sure that you follow your doctor's order" He was going to laugh but, her serious expression was telling him that she was speaking seriously.

"You won't do that" he teased her

She ran her hands up and down around his chest and approached her face to his ear for whispering "are you provoking me, Casey?"

"As long as you call sick that day and you have a lie-in with me in your bed, I am all yours" He said with husky voice giving her his hands.

She bitted her lower lip "I like the sound of that" There were only a few inches of space between them. Matt got closer to her and pressed his lips against her.

They were in the middle of the kiss, battling for the control when the door was opened unexpectedly by Shay. The blonde was looking to them with her mouth open "Oh my God" she said

Shay has caught them in the middle of the kiss, what do you think that is going to happen? Do you think that everyone at 51 will know their little secret? Or will she hide their secret?

In the next chapter, Matt is going to speak with Hallie parents and, McCloud will show up at the firehouse 51. What is she planning?
