I am on a roll, I realized I was missing pieces to make this work. A why, a source of power if he was to be not born to power, a weapon and a connection to the main cast... and boom, Zatch Bell of all things helped me figure it out. So did the Longbow of Mount Azuza and The Tessagia/Tensagia. As much as i like showing a character being well trained, showing them growing is equally enticing...
"I am sorry, Grandpa." Samuel muttered, as the disheartened man walked into his shed with Samuel at his side. "I would have hoped she would appreciated your gift." he knew it was a lie, Kagome did not appreciate history or mythology as he and her grandfather did, but to feed her gift to her cat was disrespectful.
Grandpa sighed. "It is alright, I found a way to pass on my legacy... you! You may be American, but you care for this shrine and history more than most! You won't let it go to waste when pass into the next world. Which is why I want you to have this." He turned, presenting the boy with a book, it was very thick and bound in dark leather. It had a set of red sigils and symbols across it's front, and it looked in great shape. "It is a sacred tome, a collection of spells from witches long past, or so we were told when it was given to us by the last member of a dying family."
The boy gingerly grabbed the book, smiling at Grandpa warmly, moved almost to the point of tears at being given something so valuable by another person... it hurt in a good way. "I will cherish it always, once I translate what it is within we can discuss the past in greater detail."
It was then that Sota, Grandpa's younger grandchild, burst into the room terrified. "Something pulled Kagome into the well!"
Without thinking, Samuel rushed out towards the well, grabbing it and leaning over to look... only for a blast of purple light to blast his eyes, startling him so much that he fell forward, into the well and into a swirling vortex of night skies. Down and down, until he landed, softly on the ground, looking up at an open blue sky. Not the shed that he just entered.
"What the hell was that?" With great effort, he managed to pull himself out of the well and onto a grass plain, with a forest in the distance. He was stunned, confused and shocked. " How the hell did I get here, what could have... the only thing that makes sense is magic, or a space portal but..." Looking up, he saw a familiar tree, the tree on the Shrine. "What is that doing here?" He hurried towards it, getting as far as the forest entrance before he saw Kagome being tied up, trussed and dragged off. "HEY!" He rushed to help the girl, seeing now that there were a dozen of so angry looking men with topknots glaring at him.
"Take him too, he could be a spy!"
And despite fighting back, he was captured and taken alongside the girl. He realized, only then, that the book Grandpa had given him had also been taken, and for some reason that really pissed him off. It was a gift from the first adult to treat him well, he would kill someone if it got ruined.
But more than that, he was worried about Kagome, and so whispered. "It will be okay."
And she just smiled at him. "I know." She said before they hurried towards a tiny unmodern village in the distance, where their fate would be decided.
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
This was a joy to write. I love this idea, the book is the key... and it is amazing. Untied to main plot but equally fun.
Love, your Ninja Overlord,
Mika.
