Eighteen

The stench of blood was heavy in the air.

And that was only in the main courtyard. Caroline wrinkled her nose as she entered the compound and saw the dozens of bodies throw hastily around the floor. This had Klaus written all over it. It had been two weeks since Klaus had heard the baby news and Caroline was seriously worrying, his moods seemed to be getting darker lately.

His siblings assured her that it was just a phrase and not to worry, but Caroline knew better. He was hurt, angry, and humiliated. "Klaus?" she opened the door on his art room and found him snacking out of the wrist of a dark hair girl. The entire room was covered in blood and there were four girls just waiting to be fed on.

Great, he was creating his own little harem.

Caroline grasped the girls' by the shoulder and compelled them. "Leave quickly now, do not remember any of this."

Caroline ignored Klaus' angry glare as she turned around to face him. "What is with you?" she spat. "I know you're upset, but you can't go around feeding on people and leaving evidence all over the place?"

"Says who love?" Klaus asked as he poured himself a glass of whisky. "I'm acting like a vampire should act and for the record I'm not upset."

"Really?" Caroline raised an eyebrow. "Are you telling me that all the blood you have been spilling isn't because you're upset that the baby wasn't yours?"

Klaus didn't respond.

Caroline sighed as she put a hand on his shoulder. "Klaus, you can't hide and punish everyone forever." She looked at the dreary room. "Come on let's go, let's take a night off from moping. There's a fair, let's go to the fair."

"I'm not going to the fair, Caroline."

"Why not?"

"It's loud, it's crowded, and frankly I want to kill everyone."

"Please." She pouted. "For me?"

Klaus didn't say anything for a moment before he scoffed. "You've been hanging with Katherine way too much."

New Orleans had the best fairs in the area hands down.

It seemed that there was a new fair every single week, there was an array of clowns, music, dancing, and so many vibrant colors. Caroline couldn't imagine living here, compare to Mystic Falls New Orleans was a nonstop party.

"Oh, come on." She said as they walked noticing that Klaus looked less than pleased. "You could at least pretend to be happy."

"I told you I didn't want to attend." Klaus replied. "You were the one that forced me to attend this ridiculous event."

Caroline rolled her eyes trying to keep her temper in control. "Come on, you're surrounded by a beautiful city, how could you not enjoy this?" Klaus didn't respond. "Look, let's just try this for an hour if it doesn't work out we can go home without a fuss."

Klaus' face relaxed. "All right."

"Yay." She tugged on his arm as she dragged him to a game booth where you had to knock down three glass bottles with a ball to win a prize. Truly pathetic, he wondered how Caroline could enjoy this.

"Step right up ladies and gents." A man wearing bright clown makeup said. "Knock down all the bottles and win a prize, only three dollars."

Caroline opened her purse a handed six dollars to the man. The man gave her two balls. "Here." She said giving one to Klaus.

Klaus stared at it. "What am I supposed to do with it?"

Caroline pointed to the bottles. "Play." She threw the ball, trying not to use much of her vampire strength, but she failed terribly. "Opps."

"Like this, aim." Klaus positioned the ball in Caroline's hand. "And shoot." With Klaus' help she managed to knock down the bottles perfectly.

"Wow." Caroline squealed. "That was amazing."

"Great." The man said as he pointed a stick towards the ceiling where dozens of stuffed animals were plastered. "Choose one."

"Well go ahead love, pick one." He said.

"Really? Are you sure?"

"I can assure you Caroline I have no need, nor do I want a stuffed animal."

Caroline ignored his sarcasm as she pointed to a black and white panda bear. "That one."

The man handed it to her. "Thanks." She said to Klaus.

"You could have just compelled the man." Klaus said simply as they walked away.

"Where would the fun in that be?" she said.

"Well, well if it isn't Mr. and Mrs. Mikaelson." Marcel smirked as he approached them. "Nice to see you around Klaus, we thought you had fallen off the face of the earth."

"Now Marcel, you know you can't get rid of me that easily." Klaus said. "I was just showing Caroline one of the fine events that New Orleans hosts."

"I see." He nodded once. "Well, have a nice time."

Once Marcel was away Caroline asked. "What was that? I thought you were friends."

"We are friends." Klaus said. "But even friends can sometimes experience rivalries."

Hayley stepped through the dirty paths towards her bayou home, her kingdom, where she was Queen, where she was actually royalty, though she didn't really feel like royalty right now especially since the Mikaelsons had kicked her out and they had found that the baby that she was carrying was Tyler's, not Klaus'.

She had, had everything and then the dumb blond and the doppelganger bitch had come to ruin everything.

A snow white wolf raised its head. Jackson. At least he still liked her.

"Hi," Hayley said softly as she slowly rubbed his head.

"Hayley?" Eve said sounding confused. "What happened? Are you ok?"

"No." she said sounding closed to tears once again. "I'm not ok, Eve."

"How do I look?" Katherine asked as she spinned around in the outside patio for Elijah showing off her new tight turquoise colored dress with her new peep toe heels. One of the things that she loved best about being a vampire was the free, expensive clothes. An array of shopping garments were around her in cute, little bags. "Be brutal."

"You look lovely." Elijah said as he wrapped his arms around her waist. "Just like you always do."

Katherine smirked at him, feeling so happy that she felt that her heart was going to explode. "You're such a liar."

"Now, Katerina you know that I'm an honorable man, I never lie." Elijah smirked back, his hand trailing down to her bottom. "You always look lovely-"

"I'm sorry am I interrupting?" a woman asked sharply. She was dressed in a suit with two men next to her.

"Not at all." Katherine said dryly as she pulled away. "And you are-"

"Francesca Correa." The woman said sharply. "I've actually come to talk to Mr. Mikaelson about the peace treaty for the humans."

"Of course." Elijah said, ignoring Katherine's look of protest. "This way, please."

Bonnie felt a throbbing pain in her stomach as she let go off the clothes that she was holding. She had just been in the middle of putting her stuff away in her new bedroom. Once the Hayley drama had finished they had immediately (more by Elijah than Klaus, but whatever) been invited to stay at the Mikaelson home and offered a guest room.

She didn't know where the pain was coming from or what caused it. When she removed her hand from her mouth she saw that it was covered in blood. "What the-"

"Are you ok?" Kol appeared by her side and his brown eyes widened. "You're bleeding."

"Not by much."

Kol looked disgusted. "It's plenty of blood, especially when you shouldn't be bleeding at all Bonnie."

"Well what do you want me to do, Kol?" Bonnie said her temper getting the best of her as she hastily cleaned up the blood. "I don't know what to do, I'm running out of time-"she closed her eyes. "I just feel so useless. It's getting worse isn't it, even you feel it don't you? Trading places with Amara caused the whole Other Side to fall apart because of the power shift and now everyone is doomed because of me-"

"No, they aren't Bonnie, it isn't you fault." Kol said as he turned her around. "It isn't your fault."

Bonnie sniffed. "I'm scared, Kol."

"Don't be." Kol unexpectedly pressed his warm lips on her's as he kissed her.

"Bonnie?" Rebekah said suddenly as she walked in on Bonnie apparently kissing the air. She took one look at Bonnie's tear streaked face and she paled. "Something is wrong, isn't it?"
