Twenty One
Bonnie looked at her reflection in the mirror as she twirled, Katherine and Rebekah might have their bad sides, but there were excellent shoppers and all though Bonnie had been feeling a bit depressed this morning, shopping with the girls and pretending for a few hours that she was not going to die had been relaxing.
She was even starting to look forward to this party, her makeup and hair had been professionally done and she was wearing a soft, green 1920's flapper style dress along with a green and gold mask for the masquerade theme.
Bonnie suddenly heard a wolf whistle.
She playfully rolled her eyes. "Is that supposed to be a compliment?"
Kol shrugged. "Why not? A lot of people do it now a day or would you prefer a bow?"
"A bow would be nice." Bonnie said. "But thanks for the compliment, what it's worth at least."
Kol smiled. "You're welcome. I wish I could be with you little witch."
"Me too, Kol." Bonnie looked at her reflection in the mirror that showed only her. "Me too."
"It's a little early to be drinking isn't it?" Bonnie raised an eyebrow as she came into the kitchen and saw Rebekah pouring herself a glass of scotch. Rebekah looked elegant in a curve hugging black dress.
Rebekah shrugged. "I don't have a date, so why bother?"
"I thought Marcel was your date."
"Drop out at the last minute," Rebekah said bitterly as she took a sip. "Doesn't want to upset Klaus, little coward. You're not bringing anyone?"
She shook her head. "I can be your date if you want?"
Rebekah raised an eyebrow before she shrugged. "Oh, why the hell not? I'm sure you will be a better date than Marcel anyway."
Elijah was already perfectly dressed in his tux, he entered their room and found that Katherine's red dress that she bought was still on the hanger. Katherine herself was on the bed flipping through a magazine and dressed in sexy lingerie.
"Katerina." Elijah said annoyed. "You do realize that we have a party to attend this evening?"
"Oh, Elijah we can always be fashionably late." She said, fluttering her eyelashes.
Elijah decided to humor her. "Cute." He took the red dress off the hanger. "Now get dress."
Katherine pouted. "You're no fun."
"Are you sure I don't look too yellow?" Caroline asked frowning at her reflection as she looked at her yellow dress. She had bought it because she was sure that yellow was the it color, but now she was seriously regretting it. She stomped her foot. "Klaus!"
"The dress is yellow, Caroline so of course you look yellow." Klaus said from where he was sitting. "You look lovely in it, though you can wear a burlap sack and you would still look lovely."
Caroline smiled, the compliments had boosted her ego. "Thanks for the compliment."
"I do warn you that Hayley is going to be joining us this evening," Klaus said his voice tightening. "We were force to invite her since she is the werewolf queen, but I want you girls to behave."
"Oh, don't worry about me." Caroline said coldly, she didn't even know why Hayley should be invited at all, Caroline hated the girl, and she was surprise that Klaus hadn't killed the entire wolf pack.
Klaus noticed her tension and approached her. "Caroline look at me," Caroline glanced at him with brown eyes. "I want you to enjoy yourself this evening, don't worry about Bonnie or Hayley. You helped plan this party, so you should enjoy it."
"Klaus what are we?" she blurted out.
Klaus looked confused. "What do you mean, love?"
"Relationship wise." She could feel herself getting embarrassed. "Are we friends, a couple, or-"
Klaus interrupted her rambling by kissing her softly, his hand hugging her waist. "We can be whatever you want us to be, love. You already know my answer."
With luck the Mikaelson party took place on the full moon which meant that Hayley's werewolf pack was human. Truthfully, Hayley didn't want to be near the Mikaelson home while she was pregnant, but she had no choice. She had made a deal with Francesca and she needed to honor it.
The party was just beginning and soft music was already playing. Hayley was dressed in a soft, blue dress. Jackson approached her. "Are you ready, Hayley?"
"Yes," Hayley nodded. "Let's go over the plan."
"Wow, Rebekah and Caroline did a good job." Katherine said as she and Elijah walked towards the newly renovated warehouse where the party was being held. It was decorated with dozens of lights, streamers, colorful balloons, and acrobats. "I'm impressed that Team Barbie managed to pull it off."
"I thought you said that you helped." Elijah teased her.
"Please, Team Barbie will trample me over," her smiled faded when she saw Francesca and Hayley talking. "What are they doing here?"
"Now, Katerina be polite." Elijah said an edge to his voice. "Francesca and Hayley represent the human and werewolf community, they needed to be invited."
"Can I please rip their eyeballs out?" Katherine hissed, she despised Hayley for digging her wolf claws in Elijah and she hated Francesca from the first five minutes she meet her and no sort of alliance will change that.
Katherine saw that Elijah was offering his hand. "What?"
"Will you give me the honor of this dance, Katerina?"
Katherine smiled coly at him as he pulled her into the dance floor where they started slow dancing his hand around her waist. She knew that this was supposed to be romantic, but her thoughts were all over the place. "Are you sure that this alliance thing will work Elijah, you can threaten humans, but werewolves aren't exactly trustful."
"Hayley is just one example. But I can assure you, Katerina it will work I want our home to be safe." He paused. "But if something does go wrong, I don't want you getting involve. Promised me that you will leave quickly and be safe if things become dangerous."
Katherine scoffed. "You're kidding right? Elijah, I'm not going to walk away while you're here. You fight, I fight too."
"I almost lost you once, I won't let it happen again!" he snapped. "And if I have to compel you to stay away I will!"
A flash of anger and hurt flashed through Katherine's eyes. "I can't believe you! You talk about honor and commitment and trust, but the second I want to do something you don't approve off you're willing to compel me away!" she snapped as she turned around. "I'm not your sweet, delicate Katerina that can't protect herself anymore Elijah I wish you could see that!"
"Katerina, don't you dare walk away from me!" Elijah hissed, hoping no one else would be able to hear, but Katherine was already exiting. "Katerina!"
