Twenty Two
"What happened?" Caroline frowned as she stopped dancing. She had half reluctantly agreed to join Klaus for a dance even though she had insisted on supervising the party with Rebekah when she saw Katherine storming out followed by Elijah who had even untied his bowtie out of fury. "Do you think something is wrong? Maybe we should help."
Klaus shook his head. This was probably the first of many battles between Katherine and Elijah. They were just too different like oil and water, it amazed Klaus that they had even gotten together in the first place. "Let them be, it's probably safe for us if we don't get involved."
Caroline laughed. "You're probably right, so how do you like the party?"
"A little too sparkly," Caroline glared at him. "Joking love, you and my sister and the miniature thing that Katerina did to help resulted in an excellent party. Who would that forty eight hours ago this was a measly warehouse?"
"It wasn't easy." Caroline admitted, after a pause she asked. "Klaus, why is New Orleans so important to you? I mean you could rule any place in the world, why here?"
"I like this little city, Caroline, it has charm." He twirled her around. "Me and my siblings built it, watched it be destroyed at the hands on my father, and now hundreds of years later I'm back. This is my home. Our family home. And I won't let anyone get in the way of me obtaining it."
Caroline smiled. "That was almost poetic."
"Well, I do have my moments."
Caroline gazed at him for a few moments, felt his hand around her waist of the yellow dress she hated, felt his large palm in her's as he squeezed it. She knew she was supposed to hate Klaus, and a year ago she did, but this was the present and now everything was so real, so different. Caroline leaned forward and pressed her warm lips on his, catching Klaus by surprise.
"Let's get out of here." Klaus whispered between kisses.
Caroline nodded breathlessly as she led herself be pulled away by the hybrid.
"Hayley," Francesca said a she put a cold hand on Hayley's shoulder. "It's time."
Hayley jumped slightly as she turned to Jackson. "Turn it on now, while everyone is still here."
"Well, if it isn't the former Bennett witch," Marcel smirked as he came towards Bonnie, she wasn't usually shy, but she didn't want to freak out any of the guests if any of her "friends" decided to pay a call wanting to cross over to the Other side. "Why so lonely?"
"I'm not really into parties." She lied.
"Well, I can fix that."
Bonnie raised an eyebrow. "Shouldn't you be with Rebekah?" Marcel at least had the decency to look embarrassed. "Anyway, Marcel I'm kind of with someone right now." Not that she and Kol were dating, but whatever.
Marcel looked taken back. "Well, I hope he's someone special."
"He is." Bonnie confirmed as she walked away, but was stopped halfway by Sophie. "Sophie is something wrong?"
"You mean I'm half losing my mind because the harvest spell isn't working? No, Bonnie I'm thrilled." She sighed. "Sorry, it isn't fair taking out my anger like that, it's just so frustrating, and I want my niece back."
"No, its ok, we've all lost someone." Bonnie said thinking of Grams.
"Are you ok?" Sophie asked. "There's blood going down your nose-"she was cut off when a loud rumbling sound was heard and everything seemed to explode.
"Katerina, don't you dare turn your back on me!" Elijah hissed as he followed Katherine. They were both walking a normal speed, yet Katherine seemed to walk faster than him even in heels. "We're not done with this conversation!"
"Oh, really because I just did." Katherine said sarcastically. "And I'm thought with you lecturing me, I'm not one of your minions Elijah!"
Elijah could feel himself getting more frustrated as he ran a hand through his thick dark hair. "Why can't you understand that I just want to protect you?"
"Why can't you understand that I don't need your protection?" Katherine said. "You don't always have to be the white knight Elijah, just like I always don't have to be the damsel in distress."
Elijah opened his mouth to argue, but at that moment a terrifying, screeching sound was heard that sounded like an explosion. They both turned around and saw the party where they had just been covered in flames, smoke, and destruction.
"Someone has sabotaged us." Elijah whispered.
"You mean signing a peace treaty didn't help?" Katherine couldn't help, but sarcastically point out.
Elijah glared at her as he turned back. "I need to go back, help people."
"We need to go back." Katherine corrected as she took off her heels. "And don't look at me like that, I'm actually being good for once, not drowning puppies!"
Caroline had no idea how she and Klaus had managed to unlock the door of Klaus bedroom, especially when they were in full lip lock with their clothes half off. Caroline managed to kick the door close with the ball of her feet as Klaus pressed her against the wall and hungrily started kissing her neck while Caroline rummage a hand through his dark hair.
"Klaus," she gave a little moan as Klaus started unzipping her dress, he was just about to take it off when they heard a boom!
They quickly turned their heads towards the glass window and saw a large amount of smoke and fire a few miles away. The party.
"Bonnie." Caroline choked out as she zipped up her dress.
"Rebekah." They exchanged glances as they quickly left the property to look for their fallen friends.
"Bonnie!" Caroline came running towards the now destroyed warehouse, trying ignore the half burned bodies.
"Rebekah!" Klaus shouted as he started pulling off pieces of wood.
"Is everyone all right?" Elijah asked as he came in followed by Katherine.
"No, Bonnie and Rebekah..." she bit her lip. "What the hell was that?"
"A bomb." Katherine replied angrily. "Someone must have triggered an explosion."
"But who?" Klaus hissed as he stopped pulling off wood when he heard coughs.
There under a pile of wood was a bleeding, hurt, but still alive Bonnie and Rebekah.
