Twenty Three
"Bonnie!" Caroline shrieked once she saw the pile of dark hair and the green dress. "Klaus, get her out."
With the help of Elijah, both of them managed to remove the wood from them as they helped Rebekah and Bonnie up. Rebekah was relatively unharmed since she was a vampire and Bonnie looked well, but shaken up.
Klaus bit into his wrist. "Drink."
Bonnie did as she was told and instantly felt relief, it was like her muscles were relaxing. The relaxation didn't last long however, she saw that behind Katherine there was a long line of supernatural creatures ready to pass through.
"They are here." She said.
"Can't they wait?" Katherine asked annoyed.
She shook her head. "No, they can't it's my job."
"Who is there?" Rebekah asked nervously, dreading the news.
"Everyone." Bonnie said simply glancing at the familiar faces. "Sophie, Diego, Marcel-"
Rebekah let out a pitiful wail as she vamp flashed out while Bonnie held out her hand to help them pass by. They each grabbed her hand, each passing more painful than the last as the rest of them watched in silence.
"Well, that went well didn't." Elijah said sarcastically as he draped his jacket over the chair as Katherine closed the door. "Perhaps you were right, peace treaties don't work and I was a fool for thinking they would."
"You're not a fool." Katherine said as she peered his cheek. "Well, maybe a little, but in a good way."
Elijah smiled softly, their anger seemed to have evaporated. "I'm sorry." He said. "I shouldn't have tried to control the situation, much less you we both know how that would turn out."
"I'm sorry too." She murmured. "I know you just want to protect me, but I want to protect you as well. That is my choice." She murmured as she kissed him. "Just like you will always be my choice."
"So no suspects are going around in your evil little head?" Caroline teased, even though it was highly inappropriate as Klaus handed her a much needed glass of whisky.
"Well, seeing as all of the suspects are currently dead, no." Klaus responded, the frustration obvious in his voice. "How is Bonnie?"
"Well." Caroline responded. "She's asleep."
"I'm sorry that our night got ruined Caroline." Klaus said.
Caroline shrugged. "It's ok, it's not like you had much control over it." She looked at the floor. "Do you think people did it to take away New Orleans from you?"
Klaus didn't respond. "We have a lot of enemies, Caroline. I think whoever did it that was their way of saying that they didn't want my family here."
Bonnie was enjoying some much needed sleep when she felt being shaken awake. "Bonnie, Bonnie." Kol whispered.
Bonnie's eyes flew open, but she noticed that Kol wasn't alone, he was with Sophie. She still had a hard time accepting the fact that Sophie was dead. Though Sophie looked more than happy. "Sophie what are you doing here?"
"Bonnie, since the Other Side is falling apart, I managed to speak to the ancestors." Sophie said smiling. "They said they had figure out a way to bring people back from the Other Side by crossing you, while at the same time separating you from being the anchor."
Bonnie gaped, but she didn't let herself be excited at least not yet. "Are you serious?"
"Pretty darn serious." Sophie said. "There's a witch, a friend of mine that will be able to do the spell."
"Who? What's her name?" Bonnie asked. She could probably bring back her grams, bring Kol back, and not feel any more pain.
"Sabine."
"Oh, come on you should be happy!" Caroline teased the next morning over breakfast, even she couldn't contain her excitement. Bonnie had just told them the news that Sophie had delivered and the entire household was in uproar, even Rebekah seemed to snap back from her depression over loosing Marcel. "You're getting your little brother back."
She noticed that Klaus looked less than pleased.
Caroline blinked. "What's with you? Aren't you happy?"
Klaus forced a smile. "Of course I'm happy."
"You don't look happy."
Klaus sighed, Caroline knew him too well. "I am happy, all though slightly nervous as well. Kol and I have never gotten along, not to mention that he won't be easily overjoyed to see us since we didn't avenge his death."
"Kol doesn't care about that." Caroline half lied as she squeezed his hand. "And besides, you're getting your brother back, how many people can say that?"
Katherine and Elijah were kissing in their bedroom, trying not to undress themselves for the second time when Elijah suddenly pulled back. "I have something for you."
Katherine looked confused. "What?"
He pulled out a white colored box from his suit jacket and handed it to her. "A little gift."
Katherine eagerly took the gift and almost pulled open the box, inside nestle in a small bed was a beautiful silver ring with a red ruby. She held in a gasp as she looked at it unexpectedly. "Is it-"
"An engagement ring?" Elijah read her thought as he slipped in the ring. "Not unless you want it to be. Do you?"
Katherine nodded slowly, not able to get the words out as she continued staring at the ring. She slipped the ring back in the box. "Can we wait until tomorrow to tell everyone?"
He nodded. "Of course."
"Do you understand the procedure?" Sabine asked Bonnie. She had asked everyone else to wait inside so that Bonnie had full concentration. Bonnie was in the middle of a circle surrounded entirely by candles and sealed with her blood. "I'll send your spirit to the Other Side, grab whoever you can, you only have one minute otherwise you'll stuck in there forever. Are you ready?"
Bonnie nodded. "I'm ready."
Sabine began chanting and Bonnie felt as if she were being sucked into a tube.
"Bonnie?" her eyes opened and she found herself in a dark looking forest with Kol looking expectantly at her. "It worked."
"It worked, Kol, but we only have a minute, where's Sophie?"
Kol's jaw tightened. "She's gone, Bonnie she was sucked away, I manage to stay, but everyone is gone-"
Bonnie shook her head. "Not they can't be gone-they can't-"she heard a rumbling sound and she saw fright in Kol's eyes as he grabbed her hand. "Kol-"
Bonnie felt as if someone had hit her across the head. Hard. She blinked a few times and saw that she was back in the Mikaelson home, she looked down and saw a living, breathing Kol on the floor though he was unconscious, it had worked, it had actually worked.
"Thank you." Bonnie breathed to Sabine. "Thank you! Thank you!"
Sabine smirked. "You're welcome."
