Chapter 15
Back at the Mutou place, Mai had just gotten back from her little trip to the store and once she walked back in she noticed the entirety of the place was decorated and riled up for Christmas! Lights everywhere, tree in the middle, the kids laughing and running around, and Joey and Tristan fighting as usual. Mai sighed and shook her head as Serenity walked up to her.
"Welcome back." she said. Mai grinned and held up the bag with the goodies for their party when the kids go sleep. Serenity shook her head in disappointment almost. "Mai… I still say it's a bad idea." Mai stuck her tongue out.
"Oh stop worrying! It'll be fine! No matter what, it's a win-win for everyone." she said with a wink. Serenity blushed intensely which made Mai laugh. "Ok, maybe almost everyone. But this isn't about you and me Serie, this is about Atem and his new friend. I just wanna give them a little…" she paused and wrapped her arm around Serenity's shoulders. "A little push." It was then that Joey and Tristan stopped arguing and came over to the girls.
"Hey, when did ya get back Mai?" Joey said as he kissed her cheek. Tristan went over to Serenity's side.
"Just now, why?" she said with a light giggle. Joey smiled.
"Should there be a reason why I ask my wife questions?" Joey put his nose on her neck and nuzzled in making Mai giggle more. All the running, laughing kids stopped and looked at them.
"Ewwwwww!" Joey busted a nerve and looked up at the kids.
"Oh I'll show you something to be grossed out about! Come here!" The kids squealed and scattered as Joey ran to chase them. Mai and the others just watched on with smiles as Joey chased the children around. Mai giggled and turned back to Serenity.
"Ok hun, I'm going to need your help setting up the game. You too Tristan." Tristan became wide eyed and turned to run away before Mai caught him on his collar. "And where do you think you're going Tristan?" Tristan sweatdropped and laughed nervously as the kids and Joey laughed. That made Joey stop and wonder what his best friend could be up to at this hour.
"C'mon Atem… it's not a party without you bro…"
At the casino, Atem's duel was just about to reach the climax. Weevil had summoned his Insect Queen and Great Moth while Atem had Gaia the Fierce Knight, Curse of Dragon, Kuriboh, and the Celtic Guardian. Weevil had 2400 life points left while Atem had 1500 thanks to Insect Queen. Atem was on the ropes but he would occasionally glance at Anzu and feel better and her occasional cheers brought a smile to his face. Weevil saw this and began to get annoyed.
"Atem, if you don't mind, can you please tell your cow to go wait outside where it belongs?" Atem whipped his head back to Weevil with a shocked expression shown strongly upon his strongly featured face. Anzu was left appalled by what Weevil said.
"Excuse me?!" Atem said, a few octaves higher than normal. "That's it bug boy, your ass is mine! I activate my spell card!" Weevil grinned, perfect way to get him to finally play seriously, but that's when he got an idea after he activated his trap.
"Sorry, but I counter your spell with this, Magic Jammer!" Atem went wide eyed as did Anzu. She saw that Atem began to sweat and knew he was in a pinch so she thought it was best if she cheered him on.
"It's alright Atem! Just stay focused and you'll do fine!" Weevil was just about fed up with Anzu so he snapped his fingers and in that instant, two men with Tasers went and grabbed her. "Ahhh!" she shrieked. Atem looked over in horror.
"ANZU!" His heart sprinted as his hand grabbed the edge of the platform. Just before he jumped however, he felt something grab at his ankles. He looked down and noticed that he was imprisoned in metal bindings. He gasped in repulsion and was outraged. Atem's anger was boiling to a dangerous point as Anzu's, in turn, began to slowly fade away, converting itself into fear.
"The hell is this Weevil!?" The annoying bug laughed sadistically.
"I'll tell you this loser, don't lose life points. The results might be… shocking!" He went and laughed again as Atem looked over to Anzu, wholly distressed.
Anzu's heart raced as she struggled against the men that detained her with Tasers to her sides, sparking and crackling as blue light emanated from their metal spikes. She didn't know what to do, she felt so helpless and afraid. Atem, from what she saw, noticed his rage kick into high gear. She was stunned to see the alteration; she wondered if that's how others saw her for all those years…
Maybe that's why I'm the ice queen…, she thought. That was when she snapped out of it, no way was she about to play damsel in distress! At least not again. With that in mind, Anzu brought all power to her legs and jumped slightly to the railing of the arena and pushed off, causing the grip of the men to falter and eventually let loose as Anzu flipped behind them while grabbing the Tasers as she landed. Without hesitation, Anzu looked them to the white of their eyes and used their weapons on them, she electrocuted them until they passed out. Anzu looked up at Atem and smirked. "Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. Focus on your duel." Anzu leaned on the rail, completely unaware of the predicament Atem was in. Atem swallowed hard and returned his gaze back to Weevil-bug-fuck only to see him laughing his ass off!
"Oh this is rich! Oh my gut hurts!" He continued to laugh and Anzu watched on in confusion while Atem watched in rage. "Ahh," Weevil cleared his throat. "New rules, whenever you take damage, you really take damage!" Atem went wide eyed and looked down at his ankles…
The last thing I wanted was to make Anzu worry, he thought and looked over to her. What he saw was, not fear, not confusion, but pride. Pride for himself, and assurance that he would win. "Anzu…" Atem was astonished by this woman's confidence in him and then turned back to Weevil with the same type of confidence Anzu filled him with. "My move!" Atem drew a card believing in his deck and saw he drew the card. Atem smirked and looked at Weevil. "I sacrifice Kuriboh and Celtic Guardian to summon Dark Magician!" Weevil went wide eyed and mentally cursed. "Next," Atem showed Weevil a spell card from his hand. "I activate polymerization and fuse Gaia and Curse of Dragon to make, Gaia the Dragon Champion! But I'm not finished there! I normal summon Queen's Knight from my hand and activate the spell Double Summon!"
"What's that?!" Atem smirked.
"This allows me to perform an additional normal summon! So with this, I summon King's Knight! And their ability allows me to automatically summon Jack's Knight!" Anzu watched on in awe at Atem's skill. She looked over and saw Weevil practically shaking! Serves him right though, but once she looked back to Atem she saw that he had a very serious appearance, why? Atem isn't much of a serious person, or so she thought. The more she thought about it, the more she realized about how little she knew about him.
"Who are you…?" she whispered. Atem's mind began to sharpen from his antiquated techniques, coming up with new combos upon new combos in order to defeat Weevil. But there was one way that satisfied him the most. The one combo that has gotten him out of tight spots before.
"Alright! I sacrifice all three of my Knights in order to summon…" Atem took the card out of his hand only to give Weevil the most unsettling stare. Anzu watched on in amazement as Atem took control of the duel. "Slifer, the Sky Dragon!" Weevil went wide eyed.
"SINCE WHEN HAVE YOU HAD AN EGYPTIAN GOD?!" Atem smirked.
"The God's do not appreciate to be summoned to those who aren't worthy of their presence. But Slifer made an exception just for you!" Weevil began to shake and felt his knees become that of jelly as the ceiling began to sprout out lighting! The holographic technology fashioned dark clouds as a huge red dragon emerged from within. Anzu felt the same as Weevil, completely troubled. She looked over to Atem and saw something… something in his eyes that made her want to never see him lose. There in laid a shine in his eyes. When they had first met, she saw a love for life that reflected off those warm amethyst eyes of his, but now, now she saw something else. Something that made her feel… nostalgic? The Atem she met wasn't the real Atem, was it? Anzu couldn't help but smile, she caught a glimpse of the real Atem. Something told her that he hasn't been around in many years. As she continued to watch, she noticed Atem smirk again and cracked his knuckles. "Man I'm getting excited!" In one fell swoop, Atem took his jacket and draped it over his shoulders as if it were a cape and gathered his sleeves up to his shoulders that made it seem like a short sleeve shirt. "Weevil, you made a big mistake hurting someone I care about." Atem then activated a card. "I activate Pot of Greed! This allows me to draw two more cards!" Weevil scoffed.
"Always leaving things up to luck… as usual." Atem chuckled.
"No, that would be Joey and your friend Rex. I leave things up to the Heart of the Cards!" With that, Atem drew his two cards and smiled. "I activate De-fusion to separate Gaia and now sacrifice its materials to summon Buster Bladder! Now I activate Fusion Recovery to get my Poleymerization back from the grave and use it again! Now Dark Magician, fuse with Buster Bladder in order to make Dark Paladin!" Weevil went wide eyed, there was nothing he could do anymore. Nothing works on a God and nothing can get passed that spellcaster. He was screwed, unless…
"Take this!" Weevil pressed a button beneath the dash and a few seconds later, Atem screamed in pain as electricity flowed through him. Anzu was appalled and frightened.
"ATEM!" Anzu was on the edge of the railing and watched him get electrocuted, feeling her heart sink as she heard each and everyone one of his screams.
"AAAHHHH!" The shocking ended and Atem fell, only to have his hands hold him upon the dashboard as he tried to regain feeling to his legs. "Agh… damn you…" he said hoarsely. He tried to stand again. He looked over to see Anzu was disturbed, that is something he will not tolerate. "You've really… done it now…" Atem stood and looked at Weevil, and for some reason, Weevil froze. Anzu looked at Atem as well, even she was frozen in her step.
"A-Atem…?" She looked only to see his eyes dull of vibrancy and increased in hatred. Anzu swallowed hard, what happened to him? Atem put his head down so that his eyes were covered by his lighting bangs.
"This… this is for the arcade." Atem commanded Slifer to attack Weevil's Great Moth, having his life points drop to 2000 since Atem only had three cards in his hand. He fisted his free hand and commanded Dark Paladin to attack Weevil's Insect Queen having Weevil's points drop to 1300. "That was for my pride as a duelist and my friends…" he said in a low tone, as if containing himself. Weevil blinked in confusion and then began to laugh.
"Is that it?! I thought I was fucked!" He laughed more.
"Well maybe if you piped down, I could finish my turn." Weevil froze as Atem remained still.
"What are you talking about? You attacked twice meaning you have nothing left to do! So end your tu-!" Weevil stopped mid word as Atem held up a spell. The one spell that defeated a once great duelist.
"I activate…" Atem raised his head and glared. "Diffusion Wave Motion! By sacrificing 1000 life points, I can destroy those little tokens you have. And since they have only 100 ATK points, and my Dark Paladin has 2900, guess what that means? YOU LOSE!" (A/N: I think we all know that face XD if not, watch season one of DM he uses that line in the dub) Before Weevil had the chance to say anything, Atem activated the card and Anzu watched the magician raise his staff. "This Weevil, THIS IS FOR ANZU!" The woman in query gasped as she felt her heart assault her rib cage and lurched for the man that has been able to melt it and nurture it so well.
"Atem…" Anzu felt tears well up in her throat as a smile slowly made its way onto her expression. The platforms lowered as Atem never took his eyes off Weevil and the bug boy himself was on his knees in shock.
"I… I lost… I…" Atem walked off the platform and made his way over to Anzu. Upon reaching her, he received a brilliant smile from her.
"I take it that you liked the duel?" Anzu couldn't even recognize him, he was so different now. Even his speech. All she could do was nod as Atem talked, not trusting her words as she felt a knot form in her throat. "You know, for an Ice Queen, you sure are a cry baby." He said with a wink and smirked. Anzu giggled with teary eyes and smacked his shoulder. "H-hey!" he laughed. Just then, Anzu collided against his chest and squeezed him which brought her Atem back out. "Anzu, you ok?" He held her in his arms and couldn't help but feel happy.
"Yeah, I'm fine. What about you? That was a bad jolt you took." Atem smiled and shrugged.
"Eh, I've been through worse." Anzu was astonished. For someone so damaged, to be able to smile like that, it baffled her just to think of it. "Come on, let's go." Anzu nodded while Atem began to guide her out. But just before they left the arena, Atem turned to Weevil. "Before I go, you can send the Deed over to my PO Box Weevil. Since, you know, you leave this place." Atem smirked and walked out with having his arm over Anzu's shoulders. As they left, Weevil screamed just like the sore loser he was. They walked out, Atem lost in thought, naturally, and thought for a moment. I did it… aw man I can't wait to tell Joey and Tristan, he smiled. He then looked at Anzu, who, was smiling and looked forward with such a glimmer in her eyes that it made Atem smile even more. He was about to say something when Mahad showed up.
"Well don't you two look cute." Anzu blushed and looked away as Atem chuckled. He put his fingers under Anzu's chin and made her look at him.
"Don't worry, he's just jealous." he said sweetly. Mahad laughed as Atem gave Anzu a quick peck that made her knees feel weak. So she pouted and looked away again. This made Atem jumbled. He tilted his head slightly, has the queen of the jungle lost her claws?
As Anzu looked away, she delicately placed her hand over her racing heart and closed her eyes as her breathing began to ease from that… eventful evening. She gave a quiet sigh and thought, At least It's over… That was when she felt Atem grasp her shoulders tenderly which brought her out of her hectic thoughts. She looked over at him to see his gentle face next to hers, his eyes watching her fearfully.
"I have been calling you for a few minutes now, everything ok Anzu?" A small smile crept onto her features as a light giggled escaped her throat. Atem raised a brow in confusion only to have her turn to face him completely and patted his cheek tenderly. She nodded and smiled as her eyes sparkled, all the while Atem's mind had been blown. He thought she could not have gotten any more amazing, clearly he was wrong. In that moment, she broke away from him simply by walking to the front door. Before she walked out, she turned to him and said,
"You might want to fix your jacket and sleeves mister Bad Ass." Atem blinked and looked at himself frantically. His sleeves were rolled up to his shoulders, his jacket draped around him like a cape, he began to chuckle to himself as Mahad came over.
"The only thing missing is your choker." Atem closed his eyes and laughed more as it became Anzu's turn to arch a brow in confusion, her visage became more and more clueless. She watched Atem chuckle and fix himself as Mahad began to explain. "You see Miss, Anzu was it?" She nodded. "Ok, this is how Atem basically did with his clothing back in high school. Black t-shirt, denim dark blue pants, two belts, yes two," Mahad paused as Atem blushed immensely at his "fashion" choices back then while Anzu laughed and walked over to them.
"There's more I'm assuming." She asked amusedly. Mahad nodded.
"Let's see… two belts… oh yes! He would wear these boots that would make him taller too!" Mahad and Anzu laughed more as Atem's blush also increased and he groaned.
"And I suppose the cape was supposed to be a cover up?" she said with laughter bubbling in her throat and Atem gave a fake laugh as he handed her his jacket.
"Ha ha, hysterical." She took the jacket as she giggled and Atem quickly went to her ear. "You know, if my fashion sense is such a problem, you could always," he paused and deepened his voice. "Help me out of it." He whispered as a smirk appeared on his features. Anzu's face became as red as the lights on a Christmas tree. Atem then walked out after waving to Mahad which left her to run after him.
"B-bye Mahad!" she stammered. Mahad waved as Anzu left the Casino, or at least until Atem changes it. The cold, sharp breeze of the winter evening caught her off guard again and remembered she had Atem's jacket to cover herself with. She slipped it on and blushed the second she did with a soft, delicate smile. It smells like him…, she thought. She giggled to herself and accidently bumped into the man raging through her thoughts. She heard a chuckled and felt strong arms wrap around her petite body. Anzu felt the heat rush to her face only to be met with warm purple eyes, the same color she has learned to enjoy to look at. She smiled and went up to kiss his cheek. "I'm glad you're ok. That, honestly, was terrible what Weevil did." Atem smiled.
"Yes, it was. But it's over now." He said as he cupped her cheek. She felt the warmth that radiated from his hand and leaned into it with her eyes closed.
"Yeah… thank goodness…" she whispered. The wind picked up as the snow fell harder. Atem himself shivered and from that, carried Anzu to the bike while she yelled at him to put her down. With a cheeky grin he set her on the bike and got on himself.
"Bike, not the best choice for winter." He laughed and put his helmet on. Anzu put her helmet on while Atem revved the engine up for a quick ride to the freeway. Atem had a huge smile the entire ride back to the hotel, he didn't even care how cold he was because he felt the warmth of the woman who had stolen his heart right behind him, holding him in her arms as he drove back to the hotel. Atem parked the bike back in the lot and hopped off with a loud sigh. "Ahh that was fun!" he said as he helped Anzu off and she giggled.
"Yes it was, now let's go inside before my feet turn blue." Atem nodded and chuckled as he hastily led Anzu inside. Once in the lobby, the man at the counter greeted him.
"Hey Atem." The man said tiredly.
Atem nodded and maneuvered to the elevators. He even yawned and pressed the up button. Anzu rubbed his arm gingerly with worry. "Sorry, I guess I'm a little tired." She smiled sympathetically.
"I could imagine, beating up thugs, getting an intense shock from Weevil, and all the driving too, and also having to deal with me must be taxing as well." Atem pouted and quickly pulled her onto his chest and gave her a stern look.
"I would really appreciate it if you did not attack yourself every few minutes or so." There he was again, that other Atem from before. And again, Anzu was frozen by him. All she could do was stare as a blush casted on her face.
"I… I…" she stuttered. Atem smirked as the elevator opened up to them and he led them inside it, still holding her.
"Going up." he said softly as he pressed the top button for the pent house. He smiled tenderly at her as he held her body close to his in their confined space. Atem chuckled. "Almost as if we were in the closet again." Anzu blinked for a moment before a huge blush overcame her followed by a hushed giggle.
"Y-yeah…" Anzu took a moment to herself to breathe. Yes, this side of Atem is more… hot…, she thought before mentally beating the crap out of herself. On a more mature note, this side of Atem to her was more seductive but that just means she needs to play the game harder. With that in mind she smirked and looked up at him, that made Atem raise a brow. She got out of his grasp and Atem went wide eyed, he reached out for her. Anzu giggled and lightly touched his hands as she backed away. "So, how long until we get up there." Atem growled which slightly shocked her.
"Long enough." He growled. Anzu took a moment to think why he's acting like this and couldn't understand. That was until, of course, he licked his lips.
Of course, he wants that, she thought. Anzu sighed and watched as Atem quickly went back to holding her body.
"It's pretty cold in here Anzu." He said with a smirk. She giggled in response.
"Oops, I'm sorry." She smirked in return. "Can I… turn up the heat?" Atem smirked to the point where his teeth were showing.
"By all means." With that said, they both made way to find each other's lips. Once they touched, it was as if a fire ignited in both of them. Anzu had never felt so complete in her life, nor has she ever felt the way Atem made her feel. Happiness, sadness, anger, all these emotions a person has and yet she has only come to know one, despair. But now, now in this moment, she feels it all being washed away with the softness of Atem's warm lips. Atem parted, only slightly, "Anzu… um… I…" Her Atem was back yet again, a bashful one at that. She pecked his lips.
"Not here, not now." She hushed him and continued their moment together. Atem complied to her wishes. She knew of what he wanted to say, but also knew that this wasn't exactly the best place to say it. She giggled to herself and leaned on him, tucking her head under his chin. Silently, she listened to his steady heart beat and smiled. He's so warm, she thought. She then felt Atem snake his arms around her waist more, not hurting her, but enveloping her in his protective care.
"Ok, then allow me to say this," he hesitated. Was he scared? That was when he lifted her chin to look her in the eyes. His eyes were so full of emotion, so mature, so… purple. Anzu smiled. "There will only ever be one person for me." Anzu leaned her head back in shock. Did he mean…? She shook her head.
"We don't know for sure. Life is too unpredictable. Remember that." Atem smiled and gave in to her words, no use in arguing with her, he thought. He leaned down again, ready to snag her lips when the elevator dinged. They gasped and parted from one another, totally flushed. Atem held her hand in his pocket, indicating that this was not their floor. She remained next to him as he leaned against the wall of the confined space. The doors opened, they revealed an older couple, dressed up to the nine's in very wealthy attire. But something very peculiar caught Atem's eye. Most wealthy couples kept their distance from one another because they were only together by financial ties. But these two, this man and woman, they were practically smothering each other in love! Atem couldn't help but smile. This was love, the purest kind. When you find that special someone who completes you, though the start may be difficult, but it's worth the work in the end. Atem looked to his side and noticed Anzu laying her head on him. It was a beautiful sight to see, her being calm and comfortable like that.
Anzu watched the long-standing couple with a smile of her own. That was something she was not expecting, a visit from the future. She giggled to herself and snuggled into Atem's arm. If only there were a way for everyone to have what they have, Anzu thought. Never-ending love, Anzu smiled and closed her eyes. She then felt Atem's hand squeeze hers tenderly, as if wanting her attention. She looked up and saw him smiling, he nudged his chin over to the couple and she smacked his chest. He chuckled. God that chuckle has probably done more bad than good. The elevator came to a stop yet again and this time Atem led them out, waving at the older couple in respect and courtesy. They smiled and waved back.
"Ugh, they need to get a room." Atem said mockingly after the doors closed. Anzu laughed and mushed his face affectionately. "Was it something I said?" He asked with a smirk. Anzu laughed harder.
"You're so messed up Atem!" Anzu tried to contain herself but found that harder than anything else at the moment. But just as quick, Atem grabbed her waist and pulled her to him, pushing her against the wall.
"No, what's messed up is how you laugh in my face without thinking of any," he paused. "Consequences." The glow in his eyes grew dangerous, lustful, and Anzu knew this. Luckily she had a backup plan.
"I'm sure Yugi and the others would want to see you though, maybe show me off a little." Atem backed away, stunned. That shock turned into arrogance as a smirk quickly spread across his face like wildfire.
"Very true Miss Anzu, very true." Atem took hold of her hand once again and led her through the silent hallways until they came upon a door all the way at the end, secluded really from the other rooms. "I give you," he took out his key to open it. "My humble abode." Atem opened the door to see everyone running around, having fun. The kids jumping around, the adults dancing and celebrating. Anzu took in the scene and turned to Atem.
"Humble?" she said with surprise. She was surprised he would use that word, even if it was sarcasm. But before he could respond to her,
"AAAAAAANZUUUUUUUU!" bellowed a little boy who flew at them with lighting speed. Atem and Anzu both kneeled down to catch the boy as he jumped at them. The three laughed. That was when the others noticed and went to greet them. Atem smiled and stood, bringing Anzu and Yugi with him.
"Hey guys, this is my guest that I'm sure Yugi has told you much about. Meet Anzu Mazaki." She smiled at the introduction and really couldn't fight the warmth that everyone shared with their smiles and welcoming gestures. For the first time in her life, Anzu Mazaki has felt... welcomed. Anzu smiled at them nervously, but before she could do anything else, two women dragged her in while the guys hung back to talk to Atem.
"Hey hun, I'm Mai." Said the blonde. Anzu couldn't help but look at her hair, it looked just like the wig she used! She stifled a laugh.
"Hi, Anzu Mazaki, nice to meet you." The shorter brunette next to her giggled and bounced in excitement.
"And I'm Serenity! So good to meet one of Atem's friends." Serenity gave a cheeky grin that made Anzu want to back up slightly. She looked back to see the boys almost interrogating Atem. His face was bright red but it looked as if he was ready to deck them after a few drop kicks to the neck. The Anzu looked down to see about four or five kids running around having fun. She couldn't tell of the exact number because of how fast they were running.
They're all smiling, Anzu noticed. Every single person in this place smiled. Even Atem, as annoyed as he was. That was when she came to a conclusion. She smiled, a real one.
"It's good to meet you too. This party's gonna be great!" The three laughed and went into the kitchen for some "girl talk". Before she vanished however, she gave Atem a passing glance. A type of glace that said "Don't miss me too much." She saw Atem chuckle and smirk back. His expression replied. It said "I'd worry about you first." Anzu laughed to herself as the other females dragged her away. What a way to start the night.
Thanks for reading, I think maybe two more chapters for this one... maybe three, not sure yet tbh... but anyway, thanks for reading!
