Jackson zips up his jacket and walks into the rain, slowly. It was a very long, and hard day. Charles left to go to Joe's and Reed decided to go with him, while calling April over and over again. The pixie- like girl was unsure where her best friend was at and if they would ever talk to each other again. He felt bad for April. They were friends, it took him a while to get use to her. He is just so thankful something like that hasn't happened to him.

Jackson slowly drives to his apartment he shares with Charles. He walks up to the second floor and is shocked at the sight in front of him. April. With a bottle of vodka that was unopened.

She was crying and looked up at him. "I'm s-s-sorry I didn't want to go to my apartment a-a-and see Reed."

Jackson opens up the door and leads her into the apartment. "April, it's ok. I understand."

"Thank you," April watches Jackson put the vodka on the kitchen counter. "I'm not, I'm not," she takes a deep breath, "I'm not a-a-a doctor anymore." Her voice gets more stern. "I'm not a doctor anymore."

Jackson rolls his eyes at her from across the counter. "Your still a doctor, your just not one at Seattle Grace."

"Jackson, I killed a woman."

"We all lose patients this-"

Her hands hit the counter. "No, she wasn't just a patient. She was a mistake, every patient you lose, it's because you did everything in your power to save them. I didn't do everything I could. I messed up, I didn't check her goddamn throat! Now her husband doesn't have a wife and her son doesn't have a mother. She was covered in blood, she-she-she"

April starts to break down and Jackson quickly wraps an arm around her. "Hey why don't you go get a shower to calm down?"

"Ok." She takes a long shower and lets the hot water hit her body. When it's over she pulls on a baggy shirt Jackson gave her and a pair of shorts.

"Thank you," she says while she walks out, hair still soaked.

Jackson nods and looks around the messy apartment. "You can stay here tonight, if you want to."

"Uh, thanks. I mean I don't have to."

"April, it's ok, stay." They quietly walk into his bedroom and he quickly tidies it up. "Sorry… it's a little messy. The bed looks comfier than it looks, I'll be on the couch if you need me."

April reaches out and stops him from going anywhere. "No! I don't want you to sleep on the couch. It's your house, I'll sleep on couch."

"Are you kidding, no way, you're not sleeping on the couch."

"Can you sleep with me then? Please, I'll feel less guilty." Jackson stares at the bed and shrugs. He slips off his shirt and climbs into bed beside April.

They lay in silence before April leans to her side and kisses Jackson's cheek. "I just wanted to really thank you. You're an ass sometimes but your actually a great guy."

"Thanks, I think." The silence starts again. "You're actually really strong. I always thought you were annoying but you're probably the strongest of all of us. Nobody could've walked out of the hospital the way you did, don't blame yourself. It could've been any of us, and don't stay mad at Reed. You'll get another job, Webber is a fool for letting you go."

Silence.

"April?" Jackson turns on his side and sees a peaceful April sleeping and escaping the world for one little moment.

For one fraction of a second, her life is good.
