A/N: ANd just because I love you and I feel bad about not posting I'm going to add another chapter.
Disclaimer: REad a previous chapter, I've done mine for the day.
Over the next two days Kaci stayed in her room, but when she had to get out she avoided contact with her friends. Angeal and Sephiroth were feeling awful about her demeanor while Genesis didn't seem the least fazed. He did, however, understand that it was because of him that she was so upset, but he didn't appear to care.
Angeal and Sephiroth were currently in the lounge, Sephiroth leaning on a chair back and Angeal sprawled across the couch. "I think we ought to go see her," Sephiroth said.
Angeal looked thoughtful for a moment before replying, "Good idea." Both men left the room and went to Kaci's.
Angeal knocked softly, "Kaci?"
"It's unlocked you can come in," came the reply.
When they opened the door, they saw a Kaci standing at her balcony her long -now brunette- hair across the back of the uniform coat she wore. "Something you needed?" Kaci asked.
"We came to see how you were," Angeal prompted.
Kaci let out a shaky sigh, "Tell me something," she paused as if considering her next phrase, "Is that how I really am? A spoiled brat?"
Geal and Seph's spirits plummeted with the question. "Far from it Kaci," it was Sephiroth who said this. He walked to her and placed a hand on her shoulder, in which she leaned into him.
"You're not lying to me?"
"Kaci, why would we?" Angeal questioned and appeared at her other side.
"What am I then?"'
"You're a very kind young woman, Kaci. You don't want special treatment."
"You're determined, you don't like to give up unless you know it's physically impossible for you," Angeal added.
"He wouldn't have said it without reason," Kaci had just torn away all of what they said.
"It's what he thinks you are," Sephiroth supplied, "What he wants you to act like, Kaci. Genesis, for some reason, doesn't want to admit that you're as strong as the rest of us."
"Kaci, in some cases you could even be stronger than us," Angeal added.
Kaci gave a halfhearted laugh, "Thanks you two."
The trio stood in silence before Kaci broke it, "Think I should end this seclusion thing?"
After a few moments Kaci emerged from her room with Seph and Geal in tow. It was then and a cadet came up to them, "General, Captain, and Lieutenant. Director Lazard would like to see you," he said before running off. Kaci had forgotten about her promotion to Lieutenant.
When the three entered Genesis and Lazard were waiting. Kaci avoided Genesis's eyes fearing they may start something here. "Well now that you're all here, I have an assignment for all of you."
Lazard pulled up a picture on the screen, of the Modeoheim Mako reactor which the team had come from only a few days prior.
"The reactor in Modeoheim. We have heard from sources that the Wutai troops you all got out may have placed a transmitter in the computer allowing them to take information. We want you all to go there and cut the transmission. Also you will work in groups of two: Kaci and Genesis-"
"No!" both parties mention said at the mention or working together.
"I'm sorry is there a problem?" Lazard asked.
Kaci sighed, "Director, I'm afraid if you do put us together we wouldn't much farther than the landing point.
"Very well, Kaci you will be with Sephiroth and Genesis with Angeal, any complaints? Good you leave tomorrow morning."
The four left the room and Genesis cast an angry glare and Kaci, "You know it would've happened, Captain," Kaci said.
Genesis didn't respond and continued walking towards his dorm. Kaci stopped and let out an exasperated sigh. Her two friends turned and walked towards her.
"What's wrong Kaci?" Angeal asked.
Kaci shrugged, "If I had an answer I would give you one." Kaci made her way to the cafeteria and picked up her tray. Turns out the food the Firsts get it much better than what Seconds or Thirds are used to.
Angeal and Sephiroth sat across from her, "Think we can be in the same room without tearing each other apart?" Kaci asked smiling.
"We'll find out tomorrow wont we?" Geal answered. Both were happy about her recent change in mood.
Kaci pushed her empty tray from her. Her phone rang and immediately she answered it, "Kaci."
"Kaci, come to my office," the President's voice said over the other end.
"Right away," Kaci clapped the phone shut and left her two friends alone in the cafeteria.
Moments later she found herself in front of her father's desk. "You look nice, Kaci." He told her.
"Thank you, but I have a feeling that's not what you brought me up here to hear."
Rufus Shinra sighed, "You're right. I heard from Angeal what happened with Genesis," Angeal… Kaci mentally growled. "Are you alright Kaci?" her father asked. Kaci looked up and saw that he was genuinely concerned.
"Yeah, I'm fine. It was nothing."
"That's not what I heard," Rufus began to step around his desk.
"Well what you heard was wrong!" Kaci bit back. She composed herself again, "Will that be all President?"
"Yes, Lieutenant," Rufus nodded. Kaci turned on her heel and walked away. Back at her room Kaci decided to catch up on her sleep before she had to leave.
