Love

April clutches the fabric of Jackson's shirt as she hugs him. This was everything. She missed this, this kind of warmth wasn't at the army base. She was so proud of him and really just wanted her husband back. He was her soul mate there was no one else.

She looks up to him with a smile.

I love you, she thinks, I love you so much please forgive me.

She knew she made the wrong choice. April listened to her head, she should've listened to her heart. They went from everything to nothing, it was her fault.

Jackson looked down at her and she held back the urge of wanting to kiss him and went to ask him if he wanted to go get a drink but Nathan interrupted them and Jackson slipped away. April climbs into the elevator and takes a deep breath.

"He seems like a nice guy."

April nods and looks down at her wedding ring. "Yeah, he's the best."

I'm not ready to say goodbye.

Leave

Its quiet. Almost like their first time, just with less laughter and no talks of magical pencils. April closed her eyes with a smile on her face. The way the fit together the way he knows exactly what she needs, that is everything. She falls asleep smiling.

The sun hits her bare back in the morning and she groans. "Jackson close the blinds," no reply, "Jackson?" April sits up and a lump forms in her throat.

No, she won't cry. He just left in the middle of the night and she should've expected that. She grabs a robe, wraps her sore naked body and sees a sock that he forgot and grabs it. The tears well up but she holds them back. They were 30 years old! He had no right to leave, she was his wife!

He left, but so did she so she couldn't say anything about the situation, she could cry though.

Shatter and Weep

"Oh my god, Jackson. God, please, just say it."

Jackson grabbed April and kissed her passionately until they were out of breath. "I want a divorce."

"W-what?" April grabbed a hold of her chest, she couldn't feel a heart beat under her hands. Did it stop? "I have to go."

She ran to the car and drove quickly back to the apartment. This wasn't supposed to be happening. They were supposed to be together. How did they get to this? All she wanted was to have a family with him. A piece of them died when Samuel passed.

April walked into the nursery.

It was untouched; they locked it up after what happened. The walls were yellow and all his toys were by his crib. The rocking chair was cold when she sat down and she resisted the urge to rub her stomach.

Her empty stomach.

A cry escaped from her mouth while the tears ran down her face. She held her face in her hands as the tears flowed. She couldn't stop. Her body was shaking with all the emotions bubbling up. This was what she needed and felt exhausted when she was done.

She slowly climbed into bed, on Jackson's side and fell asleep.

Heal

April looked down at her ring less finger and sighed. "Are you ok?" Arizona asked as she passed the redhead by the nurse's station.

"Yeah, I think so. I made it through last night without crying so that's good. I can't believe it's been 2 weeks."

Arizona nodded and gave her a sad smile. "It's going to get better, you know that. Maybe you should just go lesbian and then we could date."

April laughed, actually laughed at her best friend. "I don't know it sounds like a good idea. Hey I have an incoming trauma. I'll see you later."

April walked over to the young firefighter who currently had a piece of metal in his arm. "Hello, Mr. Austin I'm-"

"Beautiful." He flashed her a smile and April smiled at him.

"Possibly, but I'm Dr. Kepner. I just need to clean out that wound and get that metal out of your hair." April began to work on his arm while she felt his eyes on her. It didn't take long, it was actually the easiest trauma so far today. "You'll need to come back in 2 weeks so you can get those stitches out."

He smiled at her and nodded. "What about next week?"

"Next week?"

"Do you have plans?"

April froze this man was asking her on a date. Maybe this would be good, that means she could slowly start to move on, even though she didn't want to. "No."

"So, you and me dinner?"

"Sure."

Repeat

Great this was perfect. Her first date after her divorce and she was stood up. April finished her fourth cup of wine and paid the check before getting up. She stumbled a little and hit someone in the arm. "Oops my bad, sorry."

"April?"

Oh no. "Jackson, what are you doing here?"

"I was getting some take out." His eyes raked over her little black dress. "Are you drunk?"

She laughed. "A little."

"I'll take you home."

She didn't protest. He drove her to her new apartment and walked her to the door, which she couldn't get opened so he unlocked her door. "Well goodnight, I'll see you tomorrow."

"I'm a soldier," April whispered.

Jackson looked down at her. "What?"

April attacked him, just like the first time. They collided with each other and then they ended in a bed just like the beginning. April looked at Jackson out of breath and Jackson kissed her softly. They shouldn't be doing this, they REALLY should not be doing this. But then April hooked her leg around his hip and kissed him deeply again.

April woke up with Jackson beside her with his arm around her waist and thought maybe they should just go with it.
