Kaci stepped out of the shower and dried of her hair. She pulled on her uniform and walked out of the bathroom her hair lying in wet strands against her shoulders. Kaci threw open the grey curtain that closed off her balcony to the rest of the world. This was her escape from her problems. The outside world gave you somewhere to go, you could leave your problems inside, or it could give you more air than you possibly need to figure them out.

And right now Kaci was just enjoying the view of life. Something had given her a happy demeanor today. She was all smiles, and even just waking up some unknown force caused her to smile. Kaci ran her hand over her bare shoulder, and fingered the strap that held up her black tank top. Kaci was currently wearing her black pants, and her black spaghetti strap tank top. Her hand stopped when she felt a small scar across her shoulder.

She instantly went into flashback mode, of the day she received that scar.

*Flashback*

Kaci was only about 14. She was sitting on her couch after school, a book in her hands. Her father was in his office looking over papers. Kaci looked up when someone knocked on the door. She got up and opened it and the open door revealed a Shinra employee that Kaci didn't know, "Hello, Kaci is your father here?" he asked.

Kaci looked nervously down the hall, "Hold on," she closed the door and went to get her father. Rufus Shinra followed his daughter outside and opened the door to the man.

Kaci watched them go to her father's office but she didn't hear what they said because she was so engrossed in her book. When the man left Kaci could tell her father was angry, but she didn't say anything.

An hour later Kaci was still on the couch and her father was still in his office, "Kaci!" he bellowed.

Kaci put down her book and walked quickly to the study, "Yes?" she asked upon entering.

Kaci saw her father frantically searching threw a messy office. The drawers were dumped out and papers were everywhere, "Have you seen the training reports anywhere?" he asked frantically.

Kaci shook her head, "I haven't seen them."

"Did you take them?"

"No. I haven't seen them." She repeated.

"I didn't ask if you saw them I asked if you took them, girl!" his hand was on a glass and before Kaci knew it the glass was being hurled at Kaci. She shrieked and moved her head out of the way but the glass shattered into her shoulder.

*End of Flashback*

Kaci sighed sadly; she forgave her father for that. He never asked but she did it anyway. She never did find out what had really made him that upset, but she knew it was the report. Something that man had said, but she didn't want a mystery now.

Kaci pulled her long coat on and zipped it up. She walked down to the lounge where her friends would be waiting for her.

Kaci entered the lounge, all smiles, and to Sephiroth and Angeal, even Genesis, that was unusual.

"Good morning," Kaci said and pulled a muffin from the basket on the counter.

"Kaci," looked up to the silver haired general looking up at her, "Are you feeling alright?"

Kaci looked confused, "I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?" she took a bite of her muffin.

"You just seem happy is all, Kaci," Angeal supplied.

"And is that some kind of crime?" she asked her voice pressing for more information.

"It's just odd, Kace," Genesis said. Kaci rolled her eyes as she made an attempt not to look at Genesis or she knew she would immediately look like she was head over heels for him. And she wouldn't do that in front of Angeal or the Great Sephiroth.

"I don't see what's so odd," she shrugged and made a move for the couch. "I'm happy around you guys." She flopped down on the couch, Genesis on the other arm, Angeal on the opposite couch, and Sephiroth on a high stool at a table.

"Not this happy, Kaci," Sephiroth corrected.

Kaci frowned, "Fine you want to be all quiet and stoic, I'd be glad too," she leaned her head back on the couch and erased the smile from her face. But it had soon reclaimed her features, "Nope too hard!" and with that Kaci stood up and just about skipped out the door humming a lively tune.

The three just looked at each other, "Was she skipping?" Angeal asked.

"I have no idea," Genesis answered.

"I wonder why…" Sephiroth answered.

Kaci walked the halls, humming. No one was around to give her queer looks, but not that they would either. Kaci stopped and realized something, she was wayyyy to happy. Kaci quickly turned and almost ran back to her room. She leaned on the door and sighed, this was not her, she wasn't this happy. Kaci Shinra has never been full of smiles in years. What's changed? I know what, I've been called a goddess and now I'm positively giddy. One man, one arrogant stubborn man can change Kaci Shinra into a lovesick school girl.

Kaci knew that she had to regain her normal demeanor, her quiet serious demeanor. And she knew how to do it too, music. Kaci grabbed her iPod and put her headphones in her ears. She scrolled through some music and found the songs that she needed.

After regaining her normal demeanor Kaci happily went back to the lounge, but it was empty. Kaci frowned and decided to go searching for her three friends.

After searching through most of the building, Kaci was just about to give up, when her cellphone rang, "Kaci."

"Well where are you!?" she asked after hearing Angeal's voice. She sighed, "I suppose if I have to…" she winced hearing Angeal's upcoming lecture. "Alright, I'm kidding, bye."

Kaci sighed and turned around preparing to go to the briefing room where her friends were waiting.

"You called?" Kaci asked as she entered the briefing room.

She caught a glimpse of Genesis, and she could catch the bare smiled on his face. "Kaci, I have an assignment for you." Lazard told her.

Kaci looked to the blonde Director for more information. "There have been a few instances of monsters attacking a small town called Fallea. We have been contacted and they request sending two of you there." he glanced around at the four SOLDIERS.

"Then why did you send for all of us?" Kaci asked.

The Director just gave a sweet smile that held something sinister behind it, "I leave you to decide." He then walked out of the room seeming very pleased with himself.

"Well?" Sephiroth broke the moments of silence.

"I say we send Kaci," Angeal spoke up.

"And I say we send Genesis," Sephiroth added.

Kaci looked on her two friends, "Neither of you want to go?"

"Kaci, dear," Sephiroth took a few steps toward her and pulled her chin up to look at him, "Neither of us want to go so we are opting for you. And besides you need the experience." Kaci flicked her head out of his grasp. Sephiroth smirked and returned to his place on the wall.

"Genesis, is there anything you'd like to say?" Angeal asked.

"I know you two are planning something; I'm not sure what, but I know it's going on," Genesis sighed.

"I'll take that as a 'yes'," Angeal said before calling the Director back in and telling him of the choice.

At first, the Director looked a little distressed at the choice, but he calmed down once seeing Kaci and Genesis didn't look too annoyed, "Very well, go pack your things and report to the helicopter pad in half an hour, dismissed."

"Yes sir," the four SOLDIERS saluted in unison before leaving. Angeal and Sephiroth went off to the training room, and Genesis and Kaci made their way to the dorms.

"Do you really think they had something in mind?" Kaci asked Gen.

"Yes, goddess, I do." He replied.

"Genesis." Kaci said through clenched teeth, "Don't refer to me as such here."

Genesis merely chuckled, "Whatever you say, love."

Kaci had little time to react for Genesis had already turned the corner toward his dorm. Kaci glowered at his retreating figure before turning, in the opposite direction toward her dorm.
