angel2u: I guess we'll have to find out! ;-) She definitely wants him back.

keacdragon: :-) I'm glad you liked! Last chapter was a bit filler, but I hope you enjoyed it and will like this one! And yes . . . definitely 'uh-oh'!

angel2u, keacdragon, Sareesis, IdeaGirl123, princessyuki08, babygirl2580, Raine44354, antaurilover685, Lulalulale, Anastasia91, YoungWritersUnite: Thank you all so much for your reviews, and/or adding Fae Touched or me to your favorites or alerts. It means so much to me! I know there are more of you, but I can't get to the list at the moment (still using my phone for everything!), so if you're not named here, please know I did see, and I appreciate you!

This chapter isn't as long as I'd like, but I wanted to update again, and it seemed like a good stopping point. :-) With Christmas coming up, I'm trying to write as much as possible, but I hope you'll be forgiving- I'm making several presents, and... I just got engaged Wednesday! So fingers crossed!

Chapter XIX

When Fall break came, Charlie and Fia decided to go up to the North Pole to visit. It was a tradition for Charlie, and he had a good deal less homework than she. So, after Charlie had finished his work, Fia took him with her (and her heavy backpack) to his dad's workshop.

Bernard was the first person they saw, and he was scowling. They exchanged glances and walked up to him.

"Hiya, Sport," he said without enthusiasm, and then bowed shortly to Fia. "Princess."

"What's wrong, Bernard?" she asked.

He sighed heavily. "Your mother..."

Fia raised an eyebrow. "What did she do?"

"She volunteered us... to..." he shuddered before continuing, "to babysit."

Their laughter rang through the workshop, and soon the other elves were giggling too. Bernard glared at them and stormed into his office, but they couldn't contain themselves. Scott - Santa - found them that way after a few moments. He grinned at them.

"I see you heard the good news."

A few days later found Charlie in Santa's office, gazing over at his girlfriend. She was sitting with her feet tucked behind her on a chaise lounge nearby, her glasses on, and her hair in a very messy bun. Her brow furrowed as she studied a page in her textbook. He pitied her; she still had another essay to write after that one. Needless to say, it hadn't been much of a romantic break.

"Charlie?"

"Hm?"

"What do you think of the new design?"

He looked over and smiled apologetically. "Sorry, Judy. It looks great."

"Her highness has been working very hard," she said with a knowing smile.

"Yeah, that's an understatement."

"Perhaps she'd like to meet Comet. He's missed you."

Charlie smiled. "I bet she'd like that. Thanks."

She nodded to him and left, humming innocently.

"Hey, Fi."

She looked up, and then smiled at him. "What's up?"

"You about ready for a break?"

"So ready. Just let me finish this paragraph."

He watched her as she was writing and biting her lip, and then stood and held his hand out to her when she finished. She smiled and took it, stretching as she stood.

"Why do you write it all out by hand? You have your laptop with you, don't you?"

She scoffed. "Of course, but it's not the same. If I type it all up as I go, it feels... like just another textbook. But if I write it out... it feels more like it's really mine, and it's harder to tell how many words you've got."

"Isn't that a bad thing?"

"No. Because if I don't know how many words I've written, I also don't know how many words I have left. Less pressure, and it becomes more about the work itself than just meeting a requirement."

He looked at her for a minute as he led her out to the stables.

"You really need a long break. No more essay tonight."

Her eyes widened. "But Charlie-"

"No buts, Fi. You need to relax. Besides... I've missed you," he said, taking her by the waist and leaning in close to her.

Her breath quickened, and she stood on tiptoe to kiss him.

"Oh, I've missed you too," she mumbled, unwilling to pull away from him even to speak.

Just to their right came a snorting sound. Fia jumped and they looked over to see a reindeer watching them disdainfully. He walked over and sniffed at her a moment, eyeing her as he circled around them.

"Comet, this is Fi. She's my girlfriend. Be nice; she's a princess."

If a reindeer could raise his eyebrows, this one would have. Fia nervously tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and cleared her throat.

"Hi, Comet. Um... Do you like carrots?"

He surveyed her for another moment and then nodded, stepping closer and sniffing at her pockets. She smiled and Charlie watched in awe as she conjured a carrot from nothing. Comet was quite impressed, and took the treat happily, sitting down right where he was to eat it.

Fia giggled, and turned back to see Charlie staring at her. She sent him a sheepish smile and a shrug, but then her expression changed and she fainted into his arms.
