A/N: I start school in two days. Noooo... Oh well. enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Final Fantasy. Square Enix does, I only own Kaci Shinra, and the plot line.
Kaci Shinra just about punched whoever had poked her shoulder. "Lou Anne, don't sneak up on me!"
Lou Anne took a step back, "I'm sorry, Kari, but this just came for you from the research department." She handed a note to Kaci.
Kaci was confused at first, but then remembered that the names of the departments were not the same as the headquarters. 'Come at 3:30, nobody will be here then.' She knew it was from Pierce, who else would send her note from the Research Department.
Kaci shrugged it off, "Its fine. Sorry, reflex," she said while she stuffed the note into her scrubs pocket.
"Yeah, but it was still a good swing, what did you do train?" Lou Anne leaned her chin on her hand.
"Uh… yeah, my fiancée and I trained a while ago, just for something fun to do." Not a lie, exactly.
"Hmm," Lou Anne shrugged and grabbed the stack of papers she had originally intended to come for.
Kaci flipped open her cell, "Vincent. I need it to happen at 3:30. And I'll go home with you after." She pressed the send button and sent the message to her partner.
After requesting a slightly longer shift, Kaci busied her next hour or so, running through the building looking for different bottles for Angela. "Kari, darling!" Angela held out her hands to the returning Kaci, "Well, your shift ended a few minutes ago, see you tomorrow, daarrrling." Kaci mentally cringed the way she held that word.
Kaci simply nodded before heading to the elevator. She mentally went over the code in her head, as if I could forget my birthday. Her grandfather had made that the override, only backwards. She checked her phone and smiled at the text from Sephiroth, confirming her plan. She still didn't know what his distraction would be. She fondled the flash drive before pressing the elevator floor button again. The elevators took you two floors below where you wanted. "Accursed security system," she muttered.
"Nurse Fair," Pierce looked up, seemingly surprised.
Kaci smiled, "Yes you said 3:30, correct?"
"Oh right," he smiled and shook his head, as though just remembering something. "Have a seat," he gestured to the chair that sat in front of a laptop.
Kaci smiled, but walked slowly to the chair, checking it for any traps. As she read over the beginning of the bio reports, she heard Pierce rambling something in her ear, but she ignored it. Kaci smiled slightly hearing familiar footsteps come up the corridor. "Dr. Pierce?" Kaci kept her smiled from broadening at the voice, "There's a problem with a few of the bio weapons, and you'll need to come take a look at them."
"Oh, a, a, of course. I'll be back in a minute," he said to Kaci.
"Oh take your time, take longer than a minute," she said pretending to be engrossed in the next document. As soon as she heard the footsteps fade, she plugged in the drive and got to work.
Kaci glanced through the many sent and received e-mails. "What are you doing?!" Kaci snatched the flash drive from the computer, she had enough info. Pierce hurriedly went through the computer, looking at everything that she had looked at. "Why did you do that?" Pierce just about broke down crying, "Why?!" he came at Kaci, but was stopped by Sephiroth who stood in the doorway.
"Oh, we have enough." Kaci and Sephiroth both used their Mako to change into their normal uniforms.
"Who are you?" Pierce back against the wall, cowering from the very menacing looking SOLDIERS.
Kaci left Sephiroth to deal with him, as she went back to downloading the rest of the info from the computer. "We should have just come in like this, instead of beating around the bush, Kace." Sephiroth remarked. Kaci shrugged, and used Materia to again change back into her scrubs. She produced a syringe from her lab coat, "Catch." Her partner turned and caught the filled syringe.
"Upper arm," she said pulling the flash drive from the computer. She watched the man cower as Sephiroth injected him with the liquid tracking fluid. Ah, the things of science, she thought with a smile. Kaci quickly shot a lightning bolt at the computer and watched as it short circuited and sparked. "Let's go."
Kaci and Sephiroth sat in silence on the way back to Midgar. "Here," Kaci handed him her "engagement ring."
"Shouldn't you be focused on driving instead?" Sephiroth asked, shoving the ring into his black dress pants pocket.
Kaci smirked before slightly swerving in the empty, road less desert. "Kaci, you're going to get us killed!" "Who taught you to drive anyway?" Sephiroth asked after a moment.
"Turks, and my father, a little," she answered.
"Turks… figures."
"Don't insult Shinra driving skills; it was my father who instilled the speed demon in me."
"Why don't I believe you?" Sephiroth cast a sideways look to his partner, who was wearing a black skirt, a dark blue shirt, and short black heels.
"Do you wanna see me drive a motor boat? Turks didn't help that time," she smirked/smiled at him.
"No thanks."
Kaci shouldered her duffle bag, and slammed the trunk closed. She followed Sephiroth into and the building and down the 49th floor hall.
"Shinra!" Kaci spun to see a familiar red head walking from the side corridor.
"Hey, Gen," she gave him a hug and resumed her walk to the director's office.
"How was the mission?" Angeal asked, who had joined them.
"I think we should've just gone in, found the guy, threatened him against the wall, take the stuff, and kill him," Sephiroth sighed.
Genesis scoffed, "Yeah, and get to take all of the missions you've missed?"
"Missions?" Kaci asked.
"Yeah, the war on Wutai's been heating up. We've had to do up to two a day sometimes. And you two were gone for two weeks," Angeal said.
"Well, you two made it back. I heard Kaci was driving; so I wasn't sure if you would survive," Lazard commented as his niece and her comrades entered.
"What is with everyone insulting my driving skills?! You wouldn't insult the president's skill would you?"
"Kaci, that'd be suicide." Genesis supplied.
"Yeah, but he taught me the finer points of driving."
"Like what?" Genesis leaned against the wall, unbelieving.
"Never waste an engine with good speed capabilities."
"You're saying that your father drives with the same speed demon as you?" Angeal asked, he had seen her driving numerous times.
"Yup."
"Alright that's enough," Lazard held up his hands, "Now you two have the rest of the day off-"
"Thanks, boss," Genesis cut him off.
"I was just getting used to not hearing that," Kaci commented.
"Well get used to it, Shinra, I might even wake you up just to make it better," Genesis cast her a snide smirk.
Kaci turned towards him, "You do that and I'll pummel you're head with a brick, Rhapsodos," she threatened.
"Children! I was used to having just Genesis to deal with!" Lazard sighed and shook his head, but he couldn't help the smile on his face. "Kaci and Sephiroth report to me in the morning, if you would, dismissed."
There were four choruses of "Yes, Sir," and the group left the office. Kaci turned at the running sound of footsteps, before she was practically tackled by someone who had come around the corner. She felt Angeal grab her to keep her upright, and when she stood up she saw a third looking absolutely remorseful. "Ma'am, I am so sorry," the black haired boy looked over her, as if checking for injuries.
"Zack, you need to stop doing that!" Angeal told the young third.
"I'm sorry, sir. Are you alright ma'am? I'm sorry."
"I'm fine, third," she shot Angeal a quizzical look.
"That's right. Kaci Shinra, this is Zack Fair." Angeal gestured to the boy.
"Third Class SOLDIER, Zack fair ma'am!" Zack stood at attention and saluted.
"And General Sephiroth, you two haven't met either," Angeal said, just about sighed.
"Sir, ma'am, pleasure to meet you," Zack said again.
"At ease," Sephiroth and Kaci said at the same time. It was funny, the two who were practically raised in Shinra, hated to have people standing at attention for them, with a few exceptions.
Zack did so, and then followed them to the Shinra lounge. "So who is he Angeal?" Kaci asked and she collapsed onto the couch.
"Zack is the third I've decided to mentor," Angeal said.
"Yep! And I'm learning a lot!" Zack hung on his mentor's arm, before Angeal pushed him off.
Kaci frowned, "Aww. You're replacing me? That hurts, Geal."
"Kaci, quit whining," Genesis told her.
"Can't you recognize sarcasm when you hear it?" she took off her heel and chucked it at Genesis, who caught it effortlessly. "And can I get my shoe back?"
"No."
Kaci just took off her other one and threw it; why not just not have to hold both? But she was pelted by them a moment later. "Hey, not fair!"
"You two really are children," Sephiroth said, shaking her head.
"How dare you call your fiancée a child!" Kaci rolled her eyes toward the ceiling.
"Fiancée?! You two are engaged?!" Zack exclaimed, his eyes wide.
Sephiroth and Kaci laughed, "No. Just for a mission, Zack." Kaci said.
Zack mouthed, "Oh." "Speaking of which, Kaci why are you wearing a skirt?" Angeal asked.
"Because I wanted to. Sephiroth's in dress pants and shirt, why can't I be in a skirt?!"
"Because it reminds us that you're only a girl," Genesis answered smugly.
"Do you like your eyes?!" Kaci rolled over onto her stomach to face Genesis. "Cause I have two shoes that aren't doing anything!" she growled exasperatingly, grabbed her shoes and left to her room.
I'm sorry for not posting this earlier. I hope you all like this chapter. Zack has made an entrance! Our story is also winding down. shh, don't tell anybody.
