"Misaki I'll be okay, promise." Mitobe muttered irritably as he twist a piece of tissue to stuff it into his nose to help stop the bleeding. Verde was already cleaning up his equipments and loading them into boxes that were ready to be shipped back to his base in god knows where. The tiny infant didn't say much after the procedures, simply mumbled some comments to himself about how things needed to be fixed on his machine, but Mitobe could tell he was thrilled that everything worked out okay and no one was killed by accident.
Mitobe was back to being who he was, and he could not be more grateful or happy, Verde always did come through, the toddler was a genius. Either way, he didn't feel all that different, a little less scared and nervous, but all he got back were his memories. Yet, he felt more secure than he had in months.
Misaki was still shaken by the blood but he gave his brother some space after hearing his angry tone. The Sawada family invited Mitobe to stay for dinner along with the fellow guardians that came to celebrate Mitobe's final recovery.
Misaki decided to volunteer himself to make a phone call to their mom to let her know, after about five minutes of groaning and begging she gave in, and allowed her two sons to stay for dinner. Unaware of his brother's kind act, Mitobe was catching up with friends, Not everyone was as kind as Tsuna or Yamamoto, and by that he meant Gokudera, but he could tell the Storm Guardian was happy with his recovery. Not that he would admit it, but an ally is an ally, and since they were protecting the tenth together, he didn't mind, or rather, they used to protect the tenth together. The silver hair bomber tried not to let it bother him, despite his tough exterior, he hates nothing more than loosing a comrade, no matter how annoying.
His kindness showed when Lambo was hurt and hospitalized during the ring battle, and it stayed until this day. Although he admits that Lambo was very annoying just to about everyone, Gokudera still considered him a part of their family, the tenth family. Gokudera blew his bangs out of his face and joined the festivities.
"So...You're quitting the mafia?" Tsuna asked with a hint of relieve and sadness.
Mitobe couldn't say anything so he simply nodded his head sullenly. "I don't have much choice...My parents are kind of...set on it." He struggled to find the right words. He did not want to make them seem like bad people, because they're simple worried about him, but he didn't want to give up the crazy adventures they were having.
"It's not exactly a normal situation you know? I really am sorry Tsuna."
"Wh-what?! No no! I'm glad that we're friends...and thank you, for everything that you've done for us. I think I'll be happier knowing you're safe." Tsuna gave a crooked smile.
Misaki looked at his brother through the corner of his eyes, he was in fifth grade now, another year added to his age, and although he couldn't understand math like his brother, he did understand people. He knew how they worked, what made them happy what made them upset, and although Mitobe has accepted the fact that he had to give up the Vongola, Misaki didn't want him to.
Maybe he's still naïve, but he knew his brother's happiness meant more than a protected life and a family like theirs. He sighed, there wasn't much he can do, but he would gladly gave up an arm to have an option.
"I...I think you should enjoy it, I mean it gives you a chance of a peaceful life now right?" Tsuna added.
"Peace isn't much appreciated if there's nothing to disturb it you know." Mitobe chuckled lightly.
"We can still hang out you know, some baseball maybe?" Yamamoto expressed feeling the air was getting tensed.
"It's always baseball with you..." Gokudera mumbled.
Lambo was quiet for once, eating some candy out of a bag he shared with I-pin. It was rather peaceful. Ironically.
"There's no need to feel excluded now, we're still a family in the end."
At the sound the attention turned to the tiny Hitman at the door, behind him were Ryohei, Chrome, Kyoko, and Haru.
"Reborn." Mitobe greeted and then turned to the other three to acknowledge them.
"Yoo! It's been a while! I haven't seen you in some time now." Ryohei spoke loudly with the manliness that Mitobe has yet to seen on anyone else.
"It's a pleasure. Good to see you're up and about." Mitobe replied.
The group entered the room and situated themselves, Chrome sitting immediately next to Mitobe who scooted over to make more room for her. She gave him a soft smile and Mitobe pulled her into a hug. He quickly said his apologies although she assured him that she understood and she was not angry or upset in anyway, Mitobe however did not let her go until Haru put a comforting hand on his shoulder.
Misaki quickly realized how badly it must be hurting his brother. There was a strange smile on his face, not like the forced ones he has grown to seen. The younger sibling kept to himself, not knowing anyone in the room until Kyoko decided to speak to him, she made him feel welcomed.
"Sorry we were late~ I wanted to pick Chrome up." Haru apologized as she cutely clapping her hands together and grinned brightly.
"Ah, it's fine, dinner haven't started yet." Tsuna assured her.
"Are you sure this is okay? It is a lot of company, maybe your mom could use some help." Kyoko added as she offered her service to the kind woman.
"No no! It's fine, she was looking forward to this since she also missed Mitobe." Tsuna replied slightly flustered.
"Hold on, your mom missed me?"
"Ah yeah...?"
"Oh...I miss her too."
Mitobe missed this, the feelings of being with his friends again, he was worried that he wouldn't get to see them again after this, the thought killed him.
Dinner began at precisely six, and the boys decided to wash the dishes and clean up so that the girls could rest and relax since they helped set up dinner.
It eventually ended up in a splash fight, Tsuna hid under the table with Mitobe most of the time while Gokudera, Yamamoto and Ryohei went at it. Sadly this only made much more of a mess and it meant they had more to clean up. Soap was on the floor, mixing with the water from the faucet and bubbles were everywhere. Mitobe patted Tsuna on the back and gave a mocking smile, a small apology for his kitchen.
Around nine, was when everyone went home, Ryohei was a gentleman and walked Chrome and Haru home with his sister and Gokudera and Yamamoto were staying the night.
Mitobe held his brother's hand while they walked home swinging it back and forth as they did when they were kids. Misaki was happy to have his brother back, at least one with all his memories intact.
"You like them a lot don't you?" Misaki said suddenly out of no where as they turned around a corner.
"Of course, they're my friends." He replied simply.
"...I'm sorry." Misaki muttered.
Mitobe knew what he meant, even without it being said.
"It's not your fault, you just don't want me to get hurt."
"Yeah, but you haven't smile like that in forever..."
"I wouldn't say forever."
"Do you hate mom...and dad?" Mitobe noticed how "dad" was added in the end like a tail of a thought.
"Of course I don't, I know why they did it, I just wished they wouldn't...But it's okay..."
"...No...you're...upset...it's not...good..."
"Misaki, please, I really rather not talk about it now."
Misaki opened his mouth to say something but immediately closed it feeling that his brother truly was not in the mood.
The walk home took about ten minutes, and once they stepped through the front door, the two went on to do their own things and hoped into the showers and returned to their room respectfully. Asuna and Yosuke did not bother to question what was wrong, at least not now.
The next day, Mitobe left home early to find Hibari to tell him of the news since it was Saturday. He left with a quick good bye to his mother and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He haven't told them about his memories, at least not after another therapy session to play it off as a miracle or some other shit he's bound to make didn't leave his room until late morning, he spent most of last night trying to come up with ways to answer questions that his mom and her boyfriend would ask.
The little boy has yet to come up with every possibility, but unlike his brother, he wasn't a good liar, he couldn't, the guilt was just too much.
He approached his mom carefully as she sat on the couch in the living room grading some papers for her class.
"Mom, hey...um, can we talk, please?" He began taking a seat next to her. The woman put down her red pen and set it down, giving her child a concerned look.
"What is it? I've been meaning to ask, but did something happen yesterday?"
Misaki looked around nervously, "Not exactly...but I do have to talk to you...so..please, please, before you say anything, please listen to what I have to say..."
His mother nodded, her eyebrow pulled closer together and she chewed her bottom lip.
"Well, yesterday, I got to meet some of Mitobe's friends...and they're really nice, and he was happy, not like the fake smile he usually put on after a therapy session...but you know...a real one?"
"Misaki, I don't understand what you're trying to say."
"I haven't seen him that happy in a while. That's what I'm saying, I know that it's really none of my business...but I think it's okay for me to be a selfish brat and say that...I don't know...he should be able to hang around his friends..."
His mother frowned. She knew what Misaki meant, and it wasn't the innocent kind of afters chool going to the arcade kind of thing. It's not the underage boys having sex one either but that's too naughty for an elementary school teacher. Nope nope. She meant the Mafia.
"Darling...He can...but it's dangerous, I don't want him getting hurt, and you don't either right..?"
"No! Of course not...but...His mental health is also important as his physical health...and you can't keep him trapped forever."
"We're not...He's going for a walk right now..and he promised toSTAY away from the Mafia...so..."
"It's not the Mafia I'm worried about mom...it's Mitobe, he has friends, strong friends, people who look out for him and he look out for them. They're a family...I mean, don't you remember how ours was ripped apart? I don't want him to experience that again."
"Misaki...you're a smart boy, but you don't know what you're talking about...It's...It's for his own good."
"I think he knows what's good for him."
Asuna ran a hand through her hair, the same thing she does when she's either annoyed or out of things to say. Misaki watched his mother, her eyes threatening to spill with tears, but he needed to say what he had to, for his brother. For Mitobe.
"I know...I'm young, but I know more than you think mom...I know how people are, I know happiness, I know depression, I know trust, betrayal...I know more than you might think...so...I'm just asking that Mitobe...can see his friends again...he won't die...he's strong."
"How do you know? How can you possibly know that?!" His mother began yelling, Misaki was taken back but held his ground, he's only two years younger than his brother, that doesn't make him any less.
"Because he got all his memories back by being with them...that must take a strong bond" And by that he meant science but he had to appeal to the psychological side of his mom so he left Verde's handy machine out.
His mother sighed and rubbed her eyes harshly. Misaki almost felt bad for what he said, but he didn't regret it.
"Mom...I know...that...it's..hard, to see dad go and you're afraid of losing me or Mitobe, but...as we grow up, we need to make our own mistakes."
"So you're asking me to let you brother, join a mafia group? Where he could be killed and tortured?"
"Mom...seriously, they aren't like that."
"How do YOU know?! Are you with them too?"
"No, but...I was raised by someone who thought me to take risks and see the good in people when no one will." With that, Misaki stood up and left to go up to his room. His mom sat where she was trying to calm herself down.
"I missed you."
"You've only said it 50 times, you can stop."
"Why? Is it making you flustered?"
"You wish."
"Yeah...I do, a little."
Hibari let out a tired sigh and gave Mitobe a stare. He got the news yesterday from Reborn, but he didn't want to go to the party since there was too many people and that made him uncomfortable and even more irritated.
"Hey don't ignore me, I've been to hell and back for you."
"I don't see how."
"...You know what you should do? You should kiss me."
"No."
Mitobe made a displeased face but quickly broke out into a smile as he wrapped his hands around Hibari's and placed a kiss on the knuckles.
"If it's any consolation, you did make me fall in love with you all over again."
"Herbivore, your affection is making me nauseous. I'm going to break out in hives."
"...You're a fucking jerk you know that? I'm trying to make a moment here, you can at least stay quiet if you're going to be rude." Mitobe joked.
"Leave me alone."
"Hey hey, you don't mean that."
"I'm three seconds away from biting you to death right now dog."
"...Want to spar?"
The offer caught Hibari's interest immediately and he stood up from his spot on the roof of the school and took out his weapon. Mitobe smiled at then enthusiasm and took out his switchblade. He made the first move, running to the skylark and attempted his first attack, he was rusty, but he was sure as hell confident in his fighting ability.
Hibari brought up his tonfas and blocked the blade, Mitobe added more strength to it before taking a chance and misdirection Hibari's strength on his weapon to make an opening, but the prefect knew what Mitobe was going to do and sent a kick his way to make space between them.
Mitobe cloaked himself in an illusion, hiding where he was and tried again, this time from behind, Hiabri, skillfully and gracefully dodged and grabbed Mitobe's armed wrist and pulled him froward, making him lose his balance. The small illusionist rolled to lessen the fall and got back on his feet.
There was an excitement that went down when he was fighting Hibari, the cloud Guardian always had such energy, and he always fought to the fullest.
Hiabri charged at Mitobe, weapons in his hands, the sound of metal rang through the air making a most harmonious song.
Mitobe eventually got Hibari to back up against the wall, weapons at each other's neck, just below the jugular. Hibari was impressed with Mitobe's progress, he held his own this time, though he was still slow and sloppy with his steps and his illusion haven't measured up to Mukuro, but he could hold his own. Hibari wasn't sure to what exent but he was willing to acknowledge that skill.
He remembered their first fight, Mitobe didn't stand a chance.
The smaller boy tilted his face upward and leaned up to place a kiss on the Skylark's lips. Pulling away, he gave an egotistic smirk as if saying "I won."
A small laugh was heard from the blade user and his sparring partner pulled him close in a loose hug.
"You're kind of a dork."
"You're asking for a beating aren't you."
"You need to read a book on how to be romantic I swear."
"And you should learn how to shut up sometimes."
"And you should smile more, because you always look like you're constipated and has take a dump."
Hibari stared at Mitobe, and Mitobe stared back, neither of them backing down. Until Hibari pushed Mitobe off and gave him a playful kick, which lead him to regret making fun of Hibari, because he apparently does not appreciate poop jokes.
"Aww baby don't be mad, I was just kidding!" Mitobe shouted in mid laughed getting up from his spot.
Yup...He definitely missed this.
The sky began to turn orange and Mitobe averted his gaze. Looking to the setting sun from the top of Namimori High School.
Hibari walked over, joining Mitobe who has taken his place in front of the fence. Brown eyes stared into the glowing orb, as a delicate smile making it's way to Mitobe's lips.
"It's been a while since we've watch the sunset together." He muttered, voice slightly shaky.
Hibari let out a small hum, letting Mitobe know he agreed.
"Hey...Hibari..." Mitobe continued, his voice breaking.
Hibari raised an eyebrow slightly curious and concerned.
"...I accidentally deleted that picture of you sleeping on my shoulder..." Mitobe explained, eyes on the sun, voice near breaking point. " I really want another one."
Hibari punched him on the arm. "You ruined the moment you mangy mutt."
When Mitobe got home, the air was tense, Yosuke was sitting with his mom, arms protectively around her, hearing the door close, he turned to Mitobe and gave him a sad smile. Mitobe raised his eyebrow to show that he was questioning what was going on but Yosuke just shook his head and pointed up to the sencond floor and mouthed "Misaki" to him.
Mitobe nodded and did as he was told. When he knocked on Misaki's door, the other shouted a soft "Go away."
Mitobe was worried, his brother was usually much more accepting. He tried again, this time announcing who he was, as expected, his brother opened the door and let him in. He seemed frustrated.
"Hey baby brother, you okay?" Mitobe asked as he entered the room shutting the door.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
Mitobe sighed and sat down on his brother's bed. "Don't lie to me, mom's crying, your eyes are red and you're upset, what happened?"
Misaki looked away, "I don't want to talk about it."
"Well you have to, or else I can't help."
"You're not suppose to..."
Mitobe looked at his brother who decided to sit on the floor before him. "We're a family, and I rather not have more trouble than I already do okay? I mean it."
Misaki hesitated, he was afraid his brother would be mad at him. After he assured himself, he explained what happened that morning, about what he said, about what he thought, and what he told mom. Mitobe felt bad that his little brother did all of that for him, but he appreciated it...very much, very much.
"Hey hey, come on Misaki, I know you're worried about me but you didn't have to do that." Mitobe said getting off the bed and sitting in front of his brother. He cupped his cheeks and wiped away some tears with his thumb.
"I know...but I didn't want you to be sad, and now mom's sad, and Yosuke is probably sad, and now we're all sad."
Mitobe pulled his brother into a hug and patted his shoulder. "You're too young to be worried about this stuff..."
"I'm only two years younger than you..." Misaki replied, his voice muffled by his brother's shoulder. What a difficult situation he found himself in...
"This isn't gay is it?" Mitobe asked out of the blue.
"What?"
"Nothing."
