"Just talk to her?"

"No way."

"Misaki, come on."

"I can't! It's too embarrassing..."

"Just say you're sorry."

"But...I can't!"

"Stop being a brat, she's your mother."

"...She's yours too..."

Mitobe sighed and ran a hand through his hair. It has been three days since Misaki has gotten into a fight with their mom, and he refused to apologize for making her upset. Misaki laid on Mitobe's bedroom floor, the elder brother nudged the younger one with his foot from his position on the bed.

"You have to fix this you know." Mitobe scolded.

"Why? You avoid all your problems!"

Mitobe was a bit taken back, he gave Misaki a small glare, "I get to them eventually."

"Then I'll get to mine when I want to."

Mitobe let out an irritated grunt. "Listen here Misaki, you don't need to go fucking things up okay? I know you're trying to help and I appreciate it, but you having a pitiful tantrum over a fight with mom is not helping anything. Get off your shitty high horse and go say you're sorry."

"When are you going to stop telling me what to do? You're only a few years older!" Misaki sat up, voice raising.

"Yeah? And I'm in the mafia, killed people and I'm having the time of my fucking life." Mitobe retorted as a slight joke despite his younger brother's anger.

"You're the reason this happened!"

"I didn't ask for your help."

Misaki looked down at his hands, at this point Mitobe started feeling a bit guilty. He made his way off his bed and sat next to his brother.

"Alright...look, family...isn't always easy to deal with, but I need you to understand that you need to treasure them while you can alright? You can lose people really easily in this world."

Misaki looked up at Mitobe, and with a blank face and stern voice he spoke, " Like how I already lost you?"

Mitobe blinked, "Excuse me?"

"...I...forget it."

Misaki tried to wave it off, but Mitobe wasn't so easy. "Talk." He commanded.

"...I'm just saying...you keep secrets, and you're NEVER on my side anymore..."

"I can't be on your side if I think you're wrong-"

"That's what I mean! I want you to be happy...I do! But it's like...you're not even trying anymore."

Mitobe opened his mouth to speak but closed it, he licked his lips. "Sometimes Misaki, you have to put your happiness aside for the people you love. That's how you know you love them."

"Well think sometimes you need to be a little selfish..."

"I've been plenty selfish Misaki." Mitobe sighed remembering all the lies he had told within the past years.

"Just apologize to mom okay? She's trying."

Misaki nodded unhappily, a bit forced but he tried to keep it unnoticeable.

Mitobe smiled, he felt uneasy with his brother's confrontation, but it's not like he could control the younger boy. A part of growing up is making mistakes and fixing them. Misaki needed to learn that on his own.

A few weeks after the incident, Misaki and their mother has fully made up and were back on good terms. It's been peaceful. It was only a month later that Mitobe received a letter from his illusionist teacher requesting that he return to the Vongola mansion in Italy for further studies. He hesitated to tell his parents, knowing it would be an immediate no.

There was no way they would let him, not when it's basically the mafia headquarter of the world. Mitobe sighed, he was upset, yet awfully grateful at the same time. If he didn't have to leave, then he would be able to stay with Hibari. Yet, if he did not return to Italy, it meant that he would never be as strong as he wanted to be.

The future flashed in his mind, and he remembered Leo. Poor thing must still be waiting for him.

Mitobe didn't know what to do, for the first time in a while, he felt like he had no course of action. Rather, he had no specific goal.

Mitobe tried to keep it casual with his family, not bringing up the situation about the letter or even mentioning it. He didn't even know if he wanted to go back to Italy. It was more of for his illusion studies, but did HE want to go back? After everything that happened, his memories and Hibari. Was he really willing to risk it with going back to Italy?

It made him paranoid, what if they grew apart again? What if something happen? He would be gone for at least three years.

Was he prepare for it all?

Mitobe didn't know.

He met with Hibari later that week, letter in his pocket along with his favored switchblade. The roof top was among one of their many few meeting places, and perhaps, Mitobe's favorite. The two sat in the shade, avoiding the harsh scorch of the mid day sun.

"Hey, Hibari." Mitobe muttered, head on the skylark's shoulder.

"I got a letter from Bouche a few weeks ago."

Hibari turned his gaze a little, his interest peaking.

"And...I am debating if I should go back to Italy."

Hibari didn't say anything, making Mitobe slightly uncomfortable, so he pulled away and sat up straight only to have Hibari pull him to his previous position. Mitobe didn't shy from it, he smiled and leaned closer.

"I really need help. I want to get stronger, but I know I can't do it here. Bouche is strong, and he has experience. I can't learn how to control my illusions alone, and I don't want to ask Mukuro. It doesn't feel right, not after what he's done to you and the others. I acknowledge him as a powerful fighter...but I can't guarantee that his teaching style is something I can benefit from."

"You're doing it again." Hibari mumbled.

"What?"

"You're being formal. Why? You're just talking to me, why are you nervous?"

Mitobe didn't answer. Why was he? That was a good question, one he didn't know how to reply to. He scooted closer to Hibari.

"You should go to Italy." Hibari insisted, shocking both himself and Mitobe at the same time.

"W-wait, what?" Mitobe asked, shifting his head to get a better look at the prefect's face.

"Well, what's stopping you from going? You said you wanted to go right?"

"Well...Don't you want me here?"

"Don't change the subject. If you're using me to anchor you to Japan, I will not forgive you."

"I...I don't know what to say..."

"Then don't say anything. You said you want to get stronger right? Then get stronger. Nothing ever got in your way before. What's stopping you now? "

Mitobe opened his mouth to speak. Hibari, was definitely one of the reason, but he couldn't tell him that, not after strictly being told not to.

"Family." Mitobe started. "My family found out I was in the mafia...basically...so...there's..well. It's not well, I'll just out it that way. They dislike the thought of me doing life threatening things, I don't think they really understand. Misaki tries to."

"It's none of my business, but your family aren't always going to be there for you. Sometimes you'll have to be alone."

Miotbe didn't reply, he had a feeling that Hibari knew from experience, but it would be rude to ask, so he nodded.

"Yeah...but...I understand them...they just want me to be safe."

"Maybe they should care more for what you want. It's none of my business, but that's how I see it. Don't expect me to sugar coat anything."

"If I wanted sugar coating, I would have asked Tsunayoshi."

Mitobe hid his face in Hibari's shoulder and let out a sigh. Hibari pulled him closer, hesitating before placing a kiss on top of Mitobe's head before turning his gaze to the fence, a bit of pink dusted his cheek.

Mitobe stiffed a laugh, appreciating the gesture.

The conversation with Hibari didn't help at all, not that Mitobe expected to, but it was nice to talk about his problems with the person he admired. He wasn't ready to tell his family about the letter, but he thought he had wasted enough time hiding what he wanted for what they wanted. Maybe it was time for him to be a little selfish for what he wanted.

Mitobe helped his mother set the table and brought out the food, when Yosuke came home dinner began. Mitobe was nervous, his hands felt cold and yet it was sweating like hell. He chugged down his water.

"There's something I need to say!" Mitobe proclaim before his nerves ran out.

"What is it?" His mother asked, surprised by his tone.

Yosuke let out a curious "hm?" in the middle stuffing more rice in his mouth.

"I'm going to Italy." Mitobe announced. His brother turned his head to him, eyes wide and mouth gasping. Yosuke raised an eyebrow and kept calm while his mother glared, daring him to continue.

"Is this about that mafia of yours?" His mom accused.

"First of all, it's not mine, the Vongola belongs to the current ninth boss. And yes, I want to go back to Italy to finish my studies."

This time, it was Yosuke who spoke up "Absolutely not!" He declared, voice booming with authority, one that Mitobe was not accustomed to.

"Why? Because it's dangerous? I've been holding my head low and not bringing up the subject, and I know I'm only 16, but I want to be able to make my own decisions, and I want to be able to look back on my life, and say I did something for myself!"

"That won't be a very long life if you go join those disgusting mafia scums."

Mitobe turned to his mom, surprised that it was her that said something so cruel. "Mom!" He shouted offensively.

"We just don't want you to get hurt." Yosuke retorted, holding up a hand to Mitobe's mom as a signal to calm down.

"I am going, and I think it's time for me to do something selfish, even if I regret it, because I know you love me, and that's why it fucking hurts so much. But I can not grow to be a person that I AM proud of, in a household, that lays my path directly in front of me, telling me what to do, who to be. It's not what I want."

"Mitobe, are you even listening to yourself right now?" His mother scolded, gesticulating wildly.

"Yes, I am. And what I want, is to make my own life." Mitobe was determined, he wasn't going to back down, not like last time.

"If that's your decision, then leave. Don't come back. Never return here again, we don't need to be involve with dangerous people like you, all I wanted was a peaceful life with a NORMAL family. I can't even have that?! Not with your bastard of a dad, and then you! You go join a fucking mafia!" Mitobe's mother slammed her hand on the table and then promptly knocked over the bowl of rice onto the floor.

"Wasn't it good enough your father left me?! But now you?!"

"You're the one who just told me to leave!"

"You've been gone! You've been gone the moment you joined the stupid mafia!"

Mitobe glared at his mom, then to Yosuke, who now had the crying woman in his arms. Then he looked to Misaki, his gaze softened. How it broke his heart to see his mother cry like when his father left her. This time, it was because of him, it's him that made her cry, no one else, not his dad, not Misaki, him, and this one time is when he can not offer his apologies and comfort to the woman.

"If that's what you think, then I'm leaving. Sorry, I'll be out by tonight." Mitobe pushed out his chair and walked upstairs. His nails dug into his flesh as he tried to keep his calm, but as soon as he got to his room he punched a hole in the wall, causing his knuckles to bleed, but he didn't care. It was good to feel something other than frustration and anger.

Mitobe packed his bags, grabbing everything he thought was important enough to carry along. His clothes and electronics among the few in his luggage.

Misaki was the only person he bothered saying good bye to, he hugged his brother one last time and left. Misaki was the only one who understood, he didn't like it, but he at least let Mitobe be his own person.

Mitobe stayed with Tsuna for a total duration of two days before the arrangements for his flight was made, the morning before he left he met with Hibari again. They didn't talk much during that time, only small conversation, about the weather, and what happened when Mitobe left his house, although it was more of Mitobe talking and Hibari listening.

They shared one last kiss, and Mitobe left for the airport.
