As expected, as soon as Mitobe landed in Italy, he was immediately greeted with Leo. Who gave him some grave news. The engineer was going to leave his job as a subordinate to the Vongola and join the Varia. Apparently, he thought it though, and reconsidered, on the account that the Varia won't force him to go on missions that involve too much fighting. Mitobe was happy for Leo, even if it meant they won't be able to spend as much time together, he actually already moved out.
They had one day to catch up, and Leo told Mitobe about the Varia, and how he got along with them. He found himself afraid of Lussuria the most, which Mitobe thought was strange but finally understood when Leo explained the man had actually had an interest in collecting dead bodies. What he did with them? Leo found out in a very unpleasant way.
He walked into Luss' secret room to find the man cutting up a body with a liver in his hand. They concluded he ran an organ business to help cover the damage caused by the Varia on a daily basis.
While Leo felt out of place in the mansion, he preferred it like that. He didn't want to seem rude, but he didn't want to interact with the rest of the Varia more than he has too. Mostly of their reputation and he was afraid.
Two days after their little meet up, Mitobe was back to studying and perfecting his illusions with Bouche. He still kept his usual habits of talking to Hibari when he can, taking pictures of sunrise and sunsets, food that he was having, and sometimes on rare occasions selfies, anything to give him an excuse to talk to the skylark.
He realized that three years was going to be a long wait, but he still had holidays! Like Christmas! Surely he'll be able to go back then, and the Italian branch of the Vongola often visit the Japanese branch, so he could always hitch a ride. He supposed it wasn't that easy, but it sounded easy enough, as long as he get permission from Bouche.
Mitobe was 17 when he got his first box animals, the technology was successfully completed, thanks to Verde and his knowledge from the future. The Vongola were the first to get a taste of the special tools. Bouche gave Mitobe his wasp box weapon, and he loved it more than he could express. How ever, he had to wear several protective gears, since the wasps were dangerous and he still had to control them. The poison was dangerous enough by themselves, but to add the frantic and uncontrolled mist flame to the mix, it was chaotic. He earned himself a trip to the ER at least four times while perfecting his techniques.
The mole, well, it was a lot easier to manage. Although it took some persuading, Mitobe managed to get it to follow his orders. There was so many things Mitobe learned in the past year, and he felt more mature, more manageable.
He got his contacts back, since glasses got in the way too much, and he finally got another hair cut that didn't involve him waking up and walking out without shame. He had to admit, he liked his new hair cut, it made him feel more professional. His hangs were out of his face, swept neatly to the right, no more strands sticking out randomly, and it framed his face just right. The only reasonable thing to do after getting a decent haircut, is to take a selfie, and send it to your significant other.
From: Kyoya
You got a hair cut.
To: Kyoya
I look cute right~?! Are you jealous yet? ;O
From:Kyoya
Go to hell
To: Kyoya
What if I run into Mukuro there?
From: Kyoya
Bye.
Mitobe smiled at the respond, he answered a lot faster today. No doubt he was doing some paper work right now, but the fact he even bothered to answer back made Mitobe happy. He was easy to please.
He counted down the days. Well, years. And there's two.
His first Christmas away from home, was...lonely.
He didn't get to go back to Japan like he planned because Bouche said that even if it's the holidays, having him go back and forth would interfere with their work schedule, and after the incident with his memories and everything that followed afterward, they simply did not have time.
Mitobe understood. He wasn't upset with Bouche or even mad at him. He was just...glum.
It's not frustration, he just felt very...alone.
He spent most of Christmas with Bouche, who felt he needed some company, and Mitobe was greatly grateful for it. He also got to see some of the other guardians, and there was even a party later that evening, but Mitobe did not want to attend.
He took out his phone, stumbling on to his bed and wrote a message to Hibari.
From: Mutt
Merry Christmas! Kyoya! I miss you O3O How are you? Did you get many presents?
Hibari heard his ring tone go off, singing the Namimori anthem. Seeing the message he unlocked his phone.
He sipped his tea waiting for a reply.
To: Mutt
I don't celebrate Christmas.
From: Mutt
Is it because I'm not there ? ;)
To:Mutt
It would make no difference
From: Mutt
Did anyone tell you your personality is shit?
To:Mutt
Anyone tell you your opinion is not valued?

On his 18th birthday, Mitobe was sent on a special mission, one that would test and determine his skills as a hitman and illusionist. Bouche, knowing that Mitobe was a good informant who had skills in sneaking out special files and stealing information, the master set up a job just for him.
Recently, there has been words of double crossing in the mafia, one of the allied family is sneaking illegal drugs out of the country using the Vongola's alias, it is Mitobe's mission to go to the suspected family's head quarters, and steal the files regarding the matter.
However, this mafia family is much more secluded than others, and they are still very strict about traditions and are still using the old ways of record keeping.
What Miotbe does not know, is that his teacher will be following in secrecy, along with the Storm Guardian to observe and judge him, they will also interfere in case something go horribly wrong. Bouche was confident in his student, two years of intense training and labor did not mount to nothing.
On the night of the mission, Mitobe wore a suit, a nice black with matching tie and white dress shirt. He looked in the mirror and felt nervous, praying that he'll do okay. No one else knows about the mission, he was told to keep it a secret, as all of his jobs are. Leo doesn't know, Kyoya doesn't know. No one but him and his bosses.
He let out a long breath and brushed his hair back, a habit he had developed, taking after his mother. That brought back memories. If only she could see him now, would she be proud? Of course not. But he knew it was necessary. A job of an informant was a dangerous one, he knew that, being involve with the mafia? Even worst.
All of his files have been deleted, everything about him was lies and words rewritten to give him a background that will fit into disguises. And he was okay with it, because in the end, he was still Masato Mitobe, and nothing could change that. No amount of fake names or lies he had to tell.
He wanted his family safe, especially Misaki. Mitobe shook his head, no use getting distracted now. He looked one last time in the mirror, fixed his tie and walked over to his night table, in front of him laid a semi-large black box. Unlocking the clasps, he looked at the treasure inside, three level A rings and his two box weapons. He slipped the rings on and stuffed the box weapons into his pockets. He had an extra strapped inside his boot, his favorite switchblade hidden in his jacket, a small gun tucked under his belt hidden by his blazer, and a small handhold code breaker to get past security of all sort.
Mitobe sighed, running through his mental checklist, he was beyond nervous. If he fail, his life would be in danger and accusations would be made against the Vongola name. This was big.
Mitobe ran his fingers through his hair, took a deep breath, and strolled outside to meet with Bouche, who decided to see him off.
"Are you ready?"
"I am."
"You can do this, all your training has prepare you. Don't get shaky, you hear?"
Mitobe nodded. "Yes sir."
The older mist nodded and pat Mitobe on the head as the young boy headed to the black car that had been prepared for him. Mitobe plugged the keys into the slot and began to drive towards his destination. It was a three hours drive, but it was best to get a head start. He left as the sun was setting, timing it so that he would be at the location when night fall.
The manor he arrived at was by the coast, hidden in the forest by the shore of an unfamiliar ocean. Mitobe parked his car so it's easy to access and get away, but not too noticeable by the naked eye, just to be careful, he cast an illusion spell around it. After cloaking himself, he made his way to the building, weeks before his mission, Mitobe had been studying the infrastructure and blue prints of the head quarter, making sure he knew every exit and carefully plotted all possible plans of escape.
Mitobe, while under the spell of invisibility, summoned his mole who dug a tunnel underground for him to go through, into the building, conveniently a bathroom since it's less noticeable. He then summoned his wasps, only a few, who flew out of the bath room and went through surveillance around the building to find the safest path. It took a while but it was the safest way. They were small insects that went undetected, luckily. So far so good, but Mitobe did not want to jinx himself.
After the wasps return, they gathered in groups to form the image of a video camera and some security guards, which was expected, what be did not expect was for the building to have heat sensors. He could get past normal cameras easy, but heat was one thing he can not hide. Mitobe patted his mole on the head and once the flame ran out, it returned to it's box.
There was new modifications he did was not aware of. Mitobe sighed and fed his wasps more flames, feeling he'll need them more than he thought.
Mitobe exited the bathroom, following the small swarm of wasps carefully, back against the wall to avoid the cameras from detecting him just in case his illusion may waver. Down the dimly lit corridor, he watched his surroundings carefully, watching for trip wires or any traps.
He eventually reached a room with a large lock in front, electrical locked were no problems, neither was traditional, but it was time consuming. Mitobe pulled out his tiny gadget and pulled out the cord, plugging it into the lock, biting down on his lips, he waited for the combination to be unlocked.
Tap tap
Tap tap tap
Tap
Foot steps.
Mitobe's eyes widen as he looked around the corner, he could see a shadow approaching. Even if he was invisible to the naked eye, he didn't want to get cocky and risk it. There was a camera, pointing straight to the door, it would look strange if a guard pass out right in front of it, he couldn't have that. Mitobe looked down at his device, only at 75 percent complete. Too slow. Mitobe pressed his back against the door, the steel cooling his back.
The guard walked past him, unaware, good, his illusions were better than he thought. The man went around the corner and the last bit of light went with him. Mitobe decided to cancel his plan to attack the man, as long as he could sneak in, get the file with out being noticed, that was good enough.
His palms were getting sweaty.
The screen on the code breaker turned green and Mitobe saw the last digit being put into the sequence, a click. The door became unlock, Mitobe looked around, and slipped through the door, making minimal noises and closed it after himself.
The room inside was a typical office set up, there was a desk, and the surrounding walls were covered with file cabinets. Heat sensors were set up along the ceiling, pointing downward, seeing no way to avoid those, none that he knew, Mitobe summoned more wasps and let them wreck havoc on the cameras, it buy him some time. In the mean time, he summoned mole to dig an escape route. Mitobe quickly broke into one of the filing cabinet, easily finding the files since it was in alphabetical orders.
The door was thrown open, and a shot heard. Mitobe felt pain in his shoulder but he continued to grip the file tightly. He tilted his head to see who was in the room with him.
"Don't move!" The loud voice order. More foot step was heard, but the informant could tell it was far away.
Mitobe let out a hiss from the pain in his shoulder, blood was leaking out, ruining his suit.
"Put the file down, and your hands up. It's over." He was told. Mitobe's heart beat accelerated, starting to feel anxious. His first real mission, and he's already caught. Given he came along way, but still...he felt disappointed in himself.
He slowly placed the files on the floor, hands hovering over it just a bit before he turned to the man, hands raising up slowly, he flicked his wrist and the wasps flew away from the cameras to attack the man. Mitobe grabbed the file and dashed behind the desk, kicking it down to create a shield to protect him from the bullets.
More people arrived.
He cast an even stronger illusion, one of himself to go confront them, creating a distraction and sneaking to the hole that his mole already made. The wasps followed him, hiding in his mist.
Once he got outside, people were already waiting, no doubt there were some in the forest waiting as well...
Mitobe bit his lips, this would make getting to the car a lot harder. He slipped the files into his jacket, folded up to take up less space. He pulled out his switchblade, getting ready for a fight as he made his way to his car.
Unfortunately for him, the blood was noticeable, leaving a trail and forced him into confrontation immediately once one of the mafia members noticed.
They attacked right away, pushing Mitobe into a difficult situation. He was running out of flames to give. His mole returned to it's box and he fed the remaining bit of his mist flames to his wasps, fighting among them, slashing throats and spilling blood.
Mitobe was only one an, one against three was hardly fair, but luckily, they didn't have box weapons.
By the time he returned to the manor, Bouche was already back, having made it there earlier by using a short cut (reckless driving).
The storm guardian returned to his work and Bouche was looking over the files that his student had gave him after evaluating his performance.
He was slightly disappointed, there were better ways that Mitobe could have handled the situation, he could have went for the security system first. Knocking out the ones watching the cameras and behind the monitors would have saved him time and made it much less difficult to get the files, but he caused a storm.
Admittedly, the way Mitobe handled it was not bad, he used his head and he was cautious, but it appears Bouche can not pass him on this trial. They still had another year to go, and the older mist was already planning future opportunity. But for now, he had to report that the rumors were true and the Vongola name was being tainted.
