So deeply sorry for updating this story so late. School had been pretty crazy these two weeks and I had little time and even when I had time, all the craziness of school had killed my creativity. Anyways, here is chapter 20. Hope you enjoy this :)
Cristina signed the last of the paperwork and pushed the folder aside, sighing deeply and relieved. Paperwork, she hated paperwork. She didn't even know how she ever wanted the chief resident position back in her fourth year. Being a chief resident was all about paperwork and scheduling and office work and a little about being the top resident. She was so glad Owen hadn't let her be the chief resident.
Owen. She remembered him and that she never told him she was coming to Seattle, not that she knew she would though. She made the decision to take the job offer at Grey Sloan Memorial less than five minutes before getting her plane ticket. She had been wanting to go back to the US anyways, she had known. So one day she just packed all of her and Evan's belongings _the furniture was sold along with her apartment a day before_ and headed to the airport, went to the desk and only then, did she decide which city she was actually going to and then, bought the ticket. They got into plane a bit later and her cellphone was turned to flight-mode so she couldn't tell anyone about her decision. Dr. Bailey found out her offer was accepted when she was Cristina at her door. So now she had to let Owen know too.
She grabbed the folder and walked out of the empty conference room and towards the chief's office. "All done," she said and handed Bailey the folder.
"Good," she said, having a big smile on her face. "Now you're officially the head of Cardio at Grey + Sloan Memorial Hospital," she said when she signed some parts of the papers in the folder and then took out a key. "This is the key to your office and I'll get an intern to bring you your scrubs. Your lab coat with your name on it and your name tag will be ready tomorrow."
"Thanks so much for all of it," Cristina said, smiling and picked up the key.
Bailey nodded, smiling back.
Cristina turned on her heels, opened the door of the office, and walked out only to bump into a doctor and causing his charts to drop down. "Oh, sorry," she said quickly and sat down to help him collect the papers.
"It's okay. Please, I can do it mys-… Cristina?"
Cristina stopped in her tracks and then looked up. "Oh… Owen," she picked up the last paper and handed it to him, then stood up.
"Y-… what are you doing here?" Owen was totally confused, and happy, and surprised all at the same time.
She shrugged. "Dr. Bailey offered me the head of cardio position and I… took it," she said. "I'm the official head of Cardio now."
Owen was not out of that shocked state yet. "So you're working here? Like permanently?"
She studied his face carefully. She couldn't say if he was happy that she was there or not. "Yes I am and hopefully permanently."
Only then did a huge grin form Owen's lips. "That's so great, Cristina," he couldn't suppress his happiness. That one week that Cristina was in Seattle for her patient, despite all the awkwardness, he felt so good to see her again after five years. And now she was gonna be around for, hopefully, forever. He just couldn't wipe the stupid grin off his face.
Cristina was relieved when she saw his smile. "Yeah, I guess so…" she smiled too and looked down. "Uh… where's Crissa?"
"Crissa…" he whispered. "She's caught a cold and is at my mom's now."
"Oh," Cristina said, worriedly. "I hope she gets better. I really miss her and want to see her again."
"She does too. And I think she will be very happy to meet Evan… well actually so will I to see him in person, where's he?"
"At the daycare," she replied. "I'm going to change to my scrubs now, then I'm going to go check on him. We… um, could go together if you want."
"I do," he nodded. "Okay then, I'll see you later. And… thanks for taking Seattle's offer."
She smiled, looking directly into his eyes and nodded. "You're welcome."
Cristina rounded a corner and then walked straight through the hallway and finally reached her office. She used her key and opened the door, but before she could step in she heard her name being called and turned around, a smile lighting up her face. "Zola!"
"Aunt Cristina!" she repeated and launched in her godmother's arms.
"You look so big," she said stroking her head.
The almost 9-year-old girl smiled proudly. "Thanks. I missed you. Are you here forever?" she asked, having noticed her scrubs.
Cristina nodded. "Yeah, forever, so I'll be near my godchildren."
"Yay!" Zola said, happily.
"Zola?" they both heard someone call her and turned their heads and saw Meredith walking towards her. As Cristina's face was in Meredith's eyesight, she stopped walking and her eyes went the widest. "C-Cristina?"
Cristina smiled slightly at Meredith. "Yeah, it's me," she said.
Meredith just stared at her. "But what are you doing here?"
Cristina shrugged. "Bailey offered me the head of department position and I took the offer."
Meredith kept staring at her and the nodded. "Oh," she whispered. "Okay, I'll talk to you later. I, well…. There are something I want to talk to you about and I'm glad you're here now. But I have to take Zola now. See you later," Meredith said and with that walked away.
Cristina, too, walked away after nodding at her. She wondered what Meredith wanted to talk to her about. It wasn't like Meredith had wanted to have anything to do with her in five years. But anyways, Cristina wanted to work on her friendship with Meredith. She hadn't exited in her life for five years and a half and probably wasn't going to do again, not like before at least. But Cristina wanted to make things right, somehow. She'd chosen to buy a plane ticket to Seattle, so she'd start over. So she could start rebuilding the broken relationships somehow. She was going to take one step at a time, though. She was going to rebuild it all, brick by brick.
Sorry you got a short chapter after TWO weeks. But it'll hopefully get longer I try.
Hope you enjoyed it though.
Please, as you always do so very kindly, let me know what you thought of this chapter.
