Thank you for all of the beautiful reviews and all the new faves and follows. They really make me feel good as a writer. And please enjoy the 27th chapter!
"Dr. Ross will explain the procedure to you, while I go and take a look at your soon-to-be printed heart," said Cristina with a grin to her patient and left the room after giving Ross a nod. This was the first heart she was going to print in Seattle. She had printed a lot of them back in Paris, for animals, kids, and eventually adults. And she won different kinds of awards for that. Now she was going to show Grey Sloan Memorial the result of what she had started to do in this hospital.
She was making her way to the coffee cart when her pager went off. She sighed and took it out of its holder on her belt. Our Supply Closet, it said and it was from Meredith Grey. She frowned at her pager. She vaguely remembered the last time her and Meredith were as close as using terms like 'our supply closet'. Not that she minded though, or was annoyed or anything. She was back to fix things, to fix all the relationships she selfishly broke and her relationship with Meredith was the first one to repair. It was even before her relationship with Owen, because in order to fix things with Owen, she would really need Meredith. Though, her relationship with Owen seemed to be better than the one with Meredith now.
She put the pager back in her belt and walked to the very supply closet. Well, she still did remember which one it was. She was there, in front of the door, after 5 minutes and placed her hand on the knob. She hesitated a bit, though, not sure what she was gonna face. She took a long breath and finally opened the door, stepping in.
She saw Meredith there pacing in the closet and she looked up at the sound of the door opening. "Hey," she said, smiling lightly.
"Hey," Cristina said back, and returned the smile after she closed the door behind her. "… so…?"
Meredith stopped pacing and stood still, looking into Cristina's eyes. "We should stop," she said simply.
Cristina tilted her head slightly with a questioning look. "Stop… what?"
"This," she said waving her hand in the space between the two of them. "The avoiding each other and being resentful of each other and being far apart and not being friends. I mean… I can't do it anymore. I've done it for six years which definitely wasn't easy, and I can't do it anymore. We can't have what we had before, because we beautifully screwed it all up. But we should try… I want you to try with me to get a little bit of twisted sisters back, Cristina… I…" she stopped to take a breath. "We were bitches. We both were, well maybe I was more… but we were bitches. You said I'm a terrible doctor, and I said you are terrible person and I'm sorry… I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Cristina… I…" she paused again, looking at Cristina with pleading eyes. She was surprised she got all those words out of her mouth in two breaths. She had been trying to prepare a speech and she had failed and now words were flowing out of her mouth without her having any control over them. "I miss you, Cristina. I miss my friend, I miss my Cristina, so please, please… can we try again? We can't be what we used to be but… can we at least try? Because I can't go on another day and be enemies with you, especially now that you're here and I see you everyday."
Cristina just stared at her, incredulously. She didn't expect it, not even a bit of it. She was in pure shock and, of course, amusement as she just stared at Meredith. Now it made sensed why she's said 'our supply closet' in the page.
Meredith sighed, holding her forehead and closing her eyes. She opened her eyes, staring back at Cristina when she heard no word coming out of her. So, she decided to go on. "And I didn't treat you well enough when you were back… I acted like a bitch… but I was pissed off it didn't even occur to you to see if we were even alive in these five years."
"It did!" Cristina defended immediately, speaking for the first time. "I just… didn't think you would want to do anything with me anymore… thought you wouldn't like me to be in your life anymore…"
"Of course I wanted you in my life!" she said, her eyes starting to get red as her voice started to get hoarse. "I would wish every day for you to call and so we could make up an-…"
"Why didn't you call?" Cristina cut her off.
Meredith just stared at her. "Right…" she nodded. "I don't know why I didn't. I'm sorry I didn't."
"I'm sorry I didn't, too," Cristina said quietly.
"Can we… forget the past and start anew? I mean you can tell me again, now, that we don't have to do this thing when I say something and then you s-…"
"… say something and then somebody cries," she continued, smiling softly and her heart fell when she saw a single tear roll down Meredith's cheek. "Mer... we just said we don't do the thing when somebody cries…"
"I just had missed you," she said, wiping the tear quickly and forcing the corners of her quivering lips upward.
Cristian smiled as well as her own lips were quivering. "Yeah…" she nodded. "I had missed you too." She walked forward and pulled Meredith in for a hug.
Her breath was caught in her throat as she felt Cristina's arms around her waist. She wrapped her own arms around her neck, holding her tight as if her life depended on her. "Thank you," she whispered, "for wanting to try again."
"I'm back to fix things," she whispered back. "I'm back to rebuild everything."
They stayed like that for God knew how long, maybe six years, to make up for all those years they were apart and finally pulled back. Cristina gave Mer's shoulder a gentle squeeze and then dropped her hand.
"You were wrong about one thing though," Meredith said after an age of silence.
Cristina looked up at her, waiting for more words.
"You were wrong when you said I can't be a good mother and a good surgeon at the same time."
"I didn't say that, or at least, didn't mean it that way, I'm so-…"
"No," Meredith cut her off holding one hand up. "I don't want an apology."
Cristina furrowed her brows, questioningly.
"You were wrong about that because, you are a very good mother and an excellent, award winning surgeon at the same time, now," she said, finishing with a smile.
Cristina's confused expression changed into a smiling, proud one. "Yeah," she said, sighing happily.
Meredith giggled, shaking her head. "I've seen you with Evan and, honestly, I never expected to see you be a mother like that. You are a great one. I never had a great mom, so I know a great one when I see one. You're it, Cristina."
Cristina's smile grew bigger as she looked down. "I try," she said, shrugging a shoulder.
Meredith smiled bigger. "So what's your plans for the rest of the day?" she asked after a minute.
Cristina looked up at her. "Uh, I'm gonna check on a printed heart and then I'm gonna go have lunch with my fam-…" she stopped midway when she realized what word she was just about to say. "Uh…" she made an attempt to correct herself, to restate that sentence with words that wouldn't mean anything close to that, but she didn't seem to succeed as her mind was too busy being surprised by the sudden choice of words. She hadn't even thought about it. It had just slipped out of her mouth naturally.
That choice of word hadn't gone unnoticed by Meredith as she was looking at Cristina with an amused look. She let out a chuckle. "Oh, look at you, Cristina, finally getting your happy ending."
Cristina looked at her with a questioning look, although she was well aware what Mer was talking about.
"Oh come on," she said, shaking her head. "It's been six year that we've been apart but I still can read you."
Cristina just kept giving her the questioning look.
Meredith rolled her eyes at her. "Owen's the perfect father to Evan and no one can even start to think that Criss is not your daughter if they don't know the story. This is a perfect picturesque family, Cristina."
Cristina just stared at her, fighting not to let the corners of her lips move upward and form a proud smile as she stepped back and placed her hand on the knob. "I should go check on my heart."
"You're getting your happy ending," she whispered.
"My heart's waiting," she turned the knob.
"A perfect picturesque family," she whispered again.
"Good bye," she pushed the door open.
"How romantic!" she kept whispering.
Cristina rolled her eyes and stepped out.
"Cristina!" Meredith called after her and she walked back in. "I'm so glad you're back in my life," she said, grinning.
"Me too," Cristina replied, grinned back and finally walked away.
"It was a really good idea to get out of the hospital for lunch," Cristina commented as she put a forkful of spaghetti in her mouth.
"Right!" Crissa agreed. "I was getting sick of the cafeteria's food."
Cristina smiled at her agreement with full mouth and then looked over at Evan who was busy enjoying looking at Owen as he was helping him with his food.
"Here," Owen said giving the fork back to him, "try it yourself."
Evan took the fork out of Owen's hand and put it in the middle of the pasta and swirled it carefully so enough pasta would curl around the fork. But he was swirling so slowly that all the pasta would slip back in the plate.
Owen watched him struggle and took his little hand into his and helped him swirl it again. "You should do it faster, so the spaghetti won't fall down," he told him.
Cristina watched them so sweetly interact with each other. It was just so endearing to see Owen treat Evan like his own son and see Evan look up at him with the awe any son would have for his father.
"Ugh!" Crissa screamed. "How stupid of me!"
Cristina turned back to see Crissa scolding herself for dropping a good amount of pasta on the collar of her blouse. "Hey don't say that to yourself," Cristina said as she grabbed a napkin and started helping the little girl with a mess.
"I'm just so stupid," Crissa scolded herself again.
"Hey, you're not. It was an accident, it could happen to anyone." While speaking and cleaning the sauce from Criss's blouse with the napkin, she had not noticed that her elbow was not too far from her glass of juice and before she knew it, she had knocked it down and screwed up her shirt.
Silence came upon the four of them as they watched Cristina's shirt. The first thing to break the silence was Evan's giggle and Crissa's followed right after. Owen was trying to be sympathetic but he couldn't help a giggle when he saw the slight smile on Cristina's own lips. "It was an accident, could've happened to anyone," Crissa repeated Cristina's words, smiling sweetly at her.
"Yeeeaahh," Cristina said, shaking her head and picked up a napkin to help herself with the mess and once again all four of them started laughing at the situation.
When they recovered from the hearty laughter and was back to their food, Cristina stared at the three of them. The people she was about to call family earlier. Yes, they were her family. And yes, they were her perfect picturesque family. And yes, she was finally getting her happy ending and there was nothing that could measure the perfection of it.
"What are you thinking of?" Owen asked her with a small smile, dragging her back to present.
She looked up at him and smiled softly. "Nothing," she said and continued to smile softly as she started into his ocean blue eyes.
Owen looked over at the kids and saw them deeply busy with their food and then looked back at Cristina, bringing up his hand to tuck a stand of her hair behind her ear and stroking her cheek on the way, never once breaking their gaze. He smiled back at her and leaned forward to plant a kiss on her lips. "Will you go out on a date with me tomorrow night?"
Cristina's eyebrows rose, but she kept smiling. "I will," she said, nodding.
"Good," he said back and kissed her lips again.
He had checked on the kids and had seen them busy with their food, but Crissa had looked up occasionally and then never looked down when she saw the scene before her eyes. Her daddy was kissing Cristina and was staring into her eyes with such love she had never seen in his eyes.
Yup! Her plans had all worked out and she hadn't even taken a step. It had just all worked out without her knowing it, but she didn't care. Her dreams had come true. Cristina was finally in her and her dad's life and she didn't mind anymore that she had brought along a little boy with her.
She smiled happily and went back to her food before any of Cristina or her dad would notice her staring at them.
OMG I really enjoyed writing this chapter. Like really. So you better have enjoyed it too! Review! Review!
I am getting less and less reviews for each chapter. Am I losing readers or are the chapters too perfect to be described by words? Hahaha.
But seriously though. I need reviews. I really would love to know your opinion.
And hopefully, I'll post a new chapter for my new story soon.
Go read it if you haven't already, because it's AWESOME! :D Seriously, go read it!
