She tilted her hand up and down, watching the diamond shine in the sunlight, and smiled softly. She never was a ring kind of girl, but this was different. Maybe she would wear it all the time. Who knew, she had changed a lot. She sighed contently and looked out the window of Owen's car, waiting for her fiancée. She couldn't believe what her life had become. She was one of the most famous and great surgeons of the world, having achieved most of her big wishes. She had her son who she loved with all of her heart, unbelievably. She had Owen back in her life which was the most unbelievable part because she had always considered this love story over even though she still loved him. Before coming back to Seattle she expected to see Owen married to probably Emma with two or even three kids. But he had a daughter who looked like her as a child who even had a name alike hers and now he was becoming her husband again and that girl would be her daughter, which she was so looking forward to.
"Mocha latte for you with cheese croissant," Owen said after getting in his seat and handed Cristina her breakfast.
"Thank you," Cristina said grabbing the paper cup and the pastry and took a big sip of the drink and smiled as the heat warmed her throat and then bit into the croissant.
Owen laughed lightly after gulping his coffee.
"What?" she asked, looking at him with knitted brows.
"You're so messy," he commented and started wiping the little bits of pastry off the front of her shirt.
"That's not my fault, the thing is crisp," she replied, still frowning and pushed away his hand and did the thing herself.
Owen just laughed and continued to eat his own croissant. They spent ten minutes, sitting in the car and enjoying their breakfast. Then, Owen got out of the car to throw the cups in the trashcan and started the car after getting back in his seat.
It was a silent drive of a mutual and enjoyable kind of silence. But after a bit more of silence Cristina turned to look at Owen. "So… are we gonna tell people?" she asked
"Tell them what?" he asked looking at her and then looking back at the road quickly.
"That we're engaged."
"Do you want to? I do want Crissa to know and maybe my mother too."
Cristina shrugged. "Evan should know too, plus Alex and Meredith. I want them to know. But I don't know about others."
Owen took a breath and nodded. "So what about we tell Mer, Crissa and Evan when we get there now… Derek will probably know too if he's there. I don't think that'll be a problem. And then… we can let people find out, you know? We don't need to wear a banner around our neck, saying we're engaged…"
Cristina laughed. "Oh we certainly don't have to."
Owen chuckled. "People will see your ring and then you'll tell them. But we don't need to tell whoever coming along. How does it sound?"
"Good," she said, nodding. "We'll do that."
"Okay," he said and then pulled over the car in front of the Shepherds' dream house. He leaned forward and gave her lips a kiss and then unbelted himself before getting out of the car. As usual he went fast to the other side of the car and held it open for his lady.
Cristina rolled her eyes at him.
"Always a gentleman," he said and put his arm around her as they walked up the porch.
"Thank you Aunty Meredith," Crissa said when she finished her waffles.
"Thank you Aunty Meredith," Evan said, too, taking the last sip of his juice.
"You two are more than welcome," Meredith said, smiling at them and ran a hand on Evan's head who was sitting next to her.
"Aunty Mer, can I ask you something?" Crissa asked, leaning against the chair.
"Of course, honey," Meredith nodded, sipping on her coffee.
"Do you think Cristina will ever want to marry my dad again?"
Meredith just stared at her and then took a look at Evan who was busy, eating raspberries and who probably wasn't so fluent in English to understand Crissa. Because she didn't know what his reaction would be to hear a question about his mom getting married. "Uh… I don't know Crissa. Cristina's got a complex personality, she's so unpredictable. I had been her best friend for so long and thought I knew her very well, but then she came back from Paris and she was a completely changed person. So… I don't know how to answer you. Why do you ask that?"
Crissa took a breath. "It would be so good if she could be my mother," she said and smiled slightly.
Meredith smiled at her. "It would. But I'm sure even without being your father's wife, she loves you like she loves Evan."
Evan looked up at her as if someone was calling him. He couldn't comprehend all that Meredith was saying, but he knew his name and looked up when hearing it.
Meredith chuckled. "You're such a sweet boy, Evan Yang," she said, ruffling his hair again. Sometimes she still couldn't believe Cristina Yang had a kid. And she really was a good mother to this really sweet little boy. Right then, the doorbell rang. "It must be your parents," Meredith said and went to open the door.
She opened the door and to see Owen and Cristina at the door. "Hi," she said looking at them. Owen was in his suite and Cristina was in a pair of jeans and a wrinkled shirt which she probably had found at the depths of her locker. "Are you doing the walk of shame?" she whispered with a big and playful grin.
"Uh, shut up," Cristina said moving her hand in the air. "Let us i-…"
"Wait, wait, wait!" Meredith cut her short. "What is…" she started and grabbed Cristina's hand that she'd held in the air and looked at her finger as a surprised smile formed her lips. "… this?"
Cristina shrugged. "Engagement ring," she said matter-of-factly.
"What?!" she almost screamed and then looked at Owen who was grinning from ear to ear. "Oh my God!" she exclaimed and pulled her friend in for a big hug. "Oh my God! Look at you."
"Mer…" Cristina murmured and struggled to get out of her tight embrace. She wanted to pull a serious and uninterested face, but she couldn't help but smile, seeing Mer's smile. "Let us in."
"Oh, right!" she said and stepped aside, letting them in.
"Mommy!" Evan exclaimed and run towards her, launching himself in her embrace.
Cristina wrapped her arms tight around her son and kissed his head. "Wow, you missed me so much. I was away for only one night," she said, looking into his blue eyes.
Owen smiled, looking at the endearing scene. He couldn't wait for these two to be added to his family officially.
Crissa approached from the kitchen as well and went to hug her dad. "Hi, daddy and Cristina."
And then, ll the five of them went to the living room and sat down.
"Did you have a good night?" Crissa asked. Cristina and Owen looked at each other and gave each other a smile. "We did," Owen and Cristina replied in unison.
Meredith chuckled. "See? They certainly did."
"So…" Owen started and looked at his daughter. "And we have some news for you two."
Crissa's ears perked up. "Okay," she said, nodding.
"We are…" Cristina started and looked down at her son who was looking at her expectantly. "… getting married."
"W-… what?!" Crissa asked aloud and then saw her dad's scolding look. "What?" she asked more quietly.
"I asked Cristina to marry me last night," Owen explained and held Cristina's hand up, showing her ring.
"Oh my God!" Crissa screamed and jumped up and down. "Oh my God!" she held her mouth with her hands and jumped up and down. "I knew it. I knew it." She ran towards her dad and jumped into his embrace
Cristina laughed, finding it endearing to see her in such glee. She then looked down at Evan with a faded smile. "Don't you want to say something?"
"What's marry?" he asked, perplexed.
"Um…" she murmured and then told him the French word. His eyes went wide and he just stared at his mom. "Isn't that good, Evan? Owen will be your dad and Crissa will be your sister."
He just stared at her and then a little smile formed his lips slowly before he nodded his head and then he looked at Owen and gave him a big smile.
Crissa, who still hadn't landed back on earth, went toward Cristina and hugged her tight. "So you will be my mother?"
Cristina hugged her back as tightly and kissed her hair. "Yes, I will."
"That'll be awesome!"
"We will be a family," Owen said ruffling Evan's hair who was now sitting on his lap.
"Oh look at you all," Meredith finally spoke. "A perfect little family! Who would've thought?"
They looked at her and all laughed.
Cristina came out of Crissa's bedroom and closed the door quietly and then went to join Owen in his bedroom. "They're both asleep," Cristina said, lying down next to him. "Crissa let Evan sleep on her bed and slept in the sleeping bag herself. She's such a sweetheart"
Owen smiled and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. "When are you free?"
"Why?" she asked, her voice muffled against his chest.
"So we can start packing your stuffs and selling your apartment."
"What?" she frowned lifting her head up.
"Come on Cristina. We're getting married. You should live in the same house with me. My drawer has plenty of free space and I even have an empty room which I can prepare for Evan."
She smiled and started drawing circles on his chest. "That sounds good," she said. "We can start from tomorrow, packing a box a day… I don't have much stuff yet and I don't need my furniture. I'll just pack our clothes and personal belongings, plus my books."
"Okay."
"Oh and plus Evan's toys."
"That's alright, that room is big. We'll paint it and buy a bedroom set for him. He can have it anyways he wants."
She nodded and planted a kiss on the closest part of him to her lips. "Thank you," she said.
Owen smiled against her head. "He's like my own son, Cristina, I'll do anything for him."
She nodded again and closed her eyes, enjoying the content happiness. She had never felt so content in her life, ever. "So what about our wedding?"
"You want a wedding?" Owen asked, rather surprised.
"I don't know… I don't care as long as we do get married. But maybe…"
"Maybe what?"
"Maybe I do want one though."
"Oh?"
"I could wear a dress… red, again, and you could wear a suite and pants which I will buy for you… and we can invite your mom and our close friends and we will get married."
Owen smiled and showered her head with kissed. "It'll be the life of me to have you as my bride again."
She smiled and wrapped her arm around his chest, getting closer to him.
"What about your mom? You don't want to invite her this time? You know I've never ever met her."
Cristina shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe I'll tell her about the wedding, but when it's too late for her to start preparing to come here… Well, I don't think you ever want to meet her, Owen. She's a nightmare."
"But I still want to meet her," he said.
She sighed. "Fine… I'll invite her, but when it's too late for her to persuade me to throw a big wedding. She'll just attend the wedding like a guest and then will go back to Beverly Hills the next day. And she will spend the whole while in a hotel, not here."
Owen laughed lightly, shaking his head. With all of these thing Cristina was saying, he looked forward to meeting Helen more and more. "So you just set a date."
"What about next week?" she replied quickly.
He frowned. "Next week?! Are you sure you want to have it so soon this time, too? You remember the other time…"
"Yeah," she said, nodding. "But that was different. We didn't know what we wanted as a married couple then, but we do now and… we don't have anything to wait for, Owen, right?"
"Right," he nodded smiling. "Next week it is then."
She nodded.
"I can't wait to be your husband again."
"Me neither," she said and tilted her head upward and kissed his chin.
He smiled and lay on his side, facing her. "I love you," he said, kissing her lips softly.
"I love you too."
