First Contact
As they drew closer, Arya was becoming more and more apprehensive. Just what Eragon hoped to accomplish by sending them here, she thought.
"Hush" said Firnen, in her mind, safe behind their mental barriers, "From what your memories tell me, Eragon is not the foolish, two-legged-farm-boy that he once was."
"I reckon he knows what he is doing" piped up Silvari, "preliminary results from Rhunon and I's attempt to probe the settlement shows that there aren't many faults. Those that we can find are all relatively easy to fix, of course that's only a preliminary search."
"How did you eavesdrop on our conversation" she asked, startled at the unexpected reply.
"A little trick taught to me by Oromis, who was taught it by a short, curly-haired human woman."
"Angela" said Arya and Rhunon together.
"Wait" she said, looking at Rhunon with surprise. "How do you know her?"
"I get around sometimes, you know. I think on recollection she was present at the Blood-Oath celebration."
"Just out of interest, did you know what her gifts were?"
"She submitted some beautiful carving of animals. Even by my standards they were good" Rhunon admitted, "and some scrolls which had some riddles on it, which no-one was able to solve."
"Why not?"
"It was enchanted in a way so that the clues led to a sort of code. Once you had the code, it could be then used to reword the words, to make it into a riddle, and then you had to solve it from there."
"How far did you get"
"Well, going by memory, there were three riddles. The first one we solved pretty quickly. It was some sort of proof, that showed that all toads were frogs, but not all frogs were toads, so therefore Toad's didn't exist. Or something like that."
Secretly, she smiled; Eragon had told her about this particular anecdote.
"The second one" she prompted.
"Aah, yes. This one was even more nonsensical, and it took us a long time to solve this one. It went on about some rabbit that the Dwarves feared. To me, it sounded like someone had made a rabbit into a shade, but anyway, that was that."
There was a moment's pause, as Rhunon tried to recall some important detail about the third parchment.
"The third parchment was very, very tricky. Not only did the clues not make sense, the answer didn't make sense, so naturally we thought we didn't have it and spent a long time looking for an answer that we already had. Nevertheless, it did take us a long time to accidentally stumble upon the real answer, even without taking into account the extra time trying to find another answer that suited better."
"Did you find it" she asked, interrupting.
"No, no, someone else did. I am quite sure it was a word that had a significant meaning attached to it, but alas, I cannot tell you the rest."
"Probably something to do with her adventures" snorted Silvari.
"Now I remember" cried Rhunon, "It was a clue to finding another place of natural magic."
"Natural magic" she repeated, confused at the direction where their conversation had headed.
"Floating crystals of Eoam, Dream well in Mani's caves, the Soothsayer's hall."
"Aah, yes, how silly of me" she said, amusedly.
"The Sooth-Sayer's hall" Silvari repeated blankly, "What's that?"
"There was a cavern in Illirea that had a rift in the floor, and through that rift came gases. These gases increased the potency and likelihood of being able to see into the future. It was all but abandoned when the flow of gases dried up, although Galbatorix likely studied it intensely, and maybe even built it into the city."
"It was a bad omen, at that. When the gases dried up, all but a long time ago, we lost contact with the few remaining elves that had stayed behind in Alalea."
"We were able to contact them while we were still here" she said amazedly.
"This was hundreds of years ago, maybe even a thousand. Before the Humans were admitted to the dragon rider order."
"Has anybody gone back" she asked.
"No" said Silvari, forlornly, her long hair hiding most of her face.
"The last news we received from there" said Rhunon, "was that the situation was getting worse."
With that news, they all lapsed into reproachful silence. The settlement was drawing nearer and nearer by the second, and already she could make out a small dock built in a slow flowing bend- section of the River Edda.
(PoV change)
"How hard will it be to construct the last of the settlements in this cave" he asked, gesturing to the cave below them.
"With only elves, it might quite possibly take a few weeks. However, with a dragon it might only take a few days."
"How soon can we get to work" asked Saphira, who was lying down behind them, quite exhausted but still able to work.
"Now, if you want to" Blodhgarm said, without turning around to face Saphira. Eragon walked over to Saphira, and patted her on the leg, before putting his fingers behind the sparkling blue scales and scratching her, causing her to omit a contented humming noise.
"Are you up to it?"
She just nodded batted an eyelid in response, and turned back to watching the sea gulls fly through the air.
"Ok, so let's get started. Saphira, can you carry 10 of the elves down into the caves to work from below?"
Her only response was to get up, turn around and head in the general direction of the Talita, slowly flapping her wings to stay afloat in the air.
"Blodhgarm, You, I and 10 other elves, will work from the top down, building stairs and building a building on top. Before penetrating the ceiling of the cave and helping the other elves out."
"The others, what are they doing" asked Blodgharm.
"Guarding the ship, fixing it, and restoring it back to normal."
"Those last two will only take a few hours; you must have something else for them to do, surely?"
"Aah" he replied flusteredly, taking a moment to converse with Saphira, "I suppose they can come over here and help once they are done."
"Anything specific" questioned Blodhgarm.
"Yes, actually, they can construct all the items to be put into the settlement."
"Meaning shelves, closets, things like that" Blodhgarm asked rhetorically.
"Yes, and also, tell them to make a small compendium of words in the ancient language, which I would like installed into the place once we are done."
"Is that it" asked Blodhgarm, to which he replied with a nod.
"I'll settle it then. Start work in a few minutes, allright" said Blodhgarm.
(PoV change)
Arya looked around, there wasn't much too this settlement. There were a few rooms, beautiful, but simple, in design, and a passageway separating each of the rooms from each other. In the middle of the settlement, however, there was a large statue of Brom and Saphira. While all of them had noticed the energy stored in the gems, that had replaced the eyes on the statues, they had been unable to work out what the statue did.
Fixing up mistakes in the wording of the spells was proving a lot more difficult than they had expected it to be. She thought she knew why. Eragon, she had supposed, had used the Name of Names to ensure that the spell could not be tampered with, and then, protected this spell by an unknown mechanism. Although she did spent a lot of time pondering this, her day was taken up by fixing the place up, and making it look more respectable.
As the rain picked up outside, and the wind blew the leaves in the trees, she wondered if she should contact Eragon, or wait for him to contact her. Before she could flesh it out, however, Silvari yelled out.
"Hah" she yelled, "found a mistake."
Curious, she wandered towards the source of the noise, and spotted Silvari standing over a pool of water. It was something that she hadn't noticed on her way in, and was particularly surprised at this because it was right in the entrance room, in plain sight. Rhunon, too, was standing over the pool of water, but she didn't look like she particularly cared, or think that the thing Silvari was pondering, mattered.
"They made a mistake when they were setting up the spells for this water-pool" she explained. "They forgot to include some of the spells that they put on the water-basin, into the pool."
"Is this pool used for drinking" she asked, perplexed,
"Yes, but it's for a dragon. That there," Rhunon said, motioning to a basin, with a pedestal, set into the wall, "is for a rider, or a creature of humanoid proportions."
"What's the exact problem?"
"Just that some dangerous stuff can get into the pool, nothing to worry about much" replied Silvari.
"I'll fix it in an instant" added Silvari, "it's more of a nuisance than an actual problem."
"The only thing remotely challenging about this" said Rhunon, "is that she will have to link it back to some of the gems, without interfering with the other spells they have made."
Fat chance of that, she thought, they wouldn't be able to mess with the name of the Ancient Language even if they tried. Perhaps she thought a little too rudely, because Firnen started chuckling after that thought registered with him. It was weird having to share your thoughts with another being all the time, she thought, there was nothing else in the world quite like it.
"Rhunon, Silvari, if it's all right, I am just going to take a little rest?"
They both nodded their heads simultaneously, while still looking at the pool with a gaze stronger than most humans. She got up and wandered out of the entrance room, before entering the bedroom, on the right-hand side of the room, and falling asleep, fully clothed, on the bed near Firnen.
(PoV Change)
Eragon looked out to sea. Standing on top of the large stone hut, situated at the top of the cliff, which itself was directly on top of the system of caves, he could see everything around him. After a suitable moment's pause, he settled himself, and began cleaning up his attire, using Saphira as help. As soon as he thought he looked suitable, and was happy with his slightly bedraggled appearance, which was after numerous minutes of grooming, much of which involved trying to flatten his hair, not entirely successfully, though, he thought, he jumped off the top of the building.
Entering the room, he noted how the elves had yet to fix it up, and made a mental note to make Blodhgarm to chase up on that detail. Making his way to the back of the room, he whispered a few words in the ancient language, to make the door slide down, and quietly walked down the finely chiselled stone staircase. After a few moments of descending in silence he emerged into a cavern filled with the sound of rock being chipped away by chisels and hammers.
Dotted around the cabin were around 25 elves, all hammering away, with all their might, at the unforgiving black rock. It was a cacophony of sounds, and had he not been prepared with a spell to mute the noise, he would have been overwhelmed by the noise. That said, it was still pretty loud and even once he exited the room, his ears would still be ringing. Although, to be fair, the elves were doing very well in making the cave comfortable, going at a pace that twice, maybe even thrice, the number of humans wouldn't be able to match.
As he walked out of the room, and into another cave, his nerves started to bubble. Talking to Arya, while something he obviously wanted to do, was something that he was nervous about. It was good that they had something they actually had to talk about, because otherwise, he thought, it was going to be extremely awkward at the start. Walking into the smallest room of all, he strode over to the scrying mirror and murmured the words for scrying.
(PoV change)
Arya woke up with a start. The buzzing sound echoing through the settlement could only mean one thing. She quickly cleaned her clothes with a spell, combed her hair and fixed up the bed, before exiting the room. Walking through the settlement, she quickly found the source of the noise. A platform in the centre of the room was glowing brightly, and standing around it, were Rhunon and Silvari.
"I think you are supposed to stand on it, Arya" whispered Silvari.
"Ok" she agreed, trusting Silvari, she took her word and stepped up onto the platform. Immediately she was assaulted by a plethora of information. Once she had stepped onto the platform, an illusion had sprung up all around the edges of the pedestal. It really felt like she had stepped into another place, and there, standing up tall and straight, was Eragon.
He was dressed in a simple brown and black tunic, and he looked self-conscious with his relatively simple attire. She was dressed in a beautiful light green and black tunic, with strands of silver embedded within the garment, the contrast between couldn't have been more different. His brown hair was parted to each side, and his face was tanned. There was something that she couldn't quite pick out; there was something slightly different with him, than when they had last seen each other. Then it hit her, he had broader shoulders than a normal elf, and he looked stronger as well, he even looked almost as strong as Blodhgarm.
"Queen Arya," he said, inclining his head, "Atra esterní ono thelduin, Arya Shurtugal."
"Atra esterní ono thelduin, Eragon Finiarel."
"Mor'ranr lífa unin hjarta onr" he replied, completing the essential part of the greetings.
"Mor'ranr lífa unin hjarta onr, Eragon Finiarel" she answered, "Don't bother completing the last part of the greeting, we both know each other well enough. Anyway, I should have greeted you first."
"Probably" admitted Eragon, "but you were looking like you were in deep thought, so I started the conversation off. How are you?"
"I am quite tired, and very sick of singing, but am coping relatively well. How about you" she asked.
"Fine, very tired, but enjoying myself thoroughly."
Gesturing at the illusion all her around her,
"How did you make all of this?"
"It required a lot of help from the Eldunari," he said, grimacing, "and a fair amount of jewels."
"Have you done something to yourself; you look slightly, for want of a better word, bigger than before?"
"The Eldunari decided that I wasn't strong enough, so they made me cast a few spells, you know how they are, and started me on an exhausting training program."
"Bet you still can't beat me in a swordfight" she said, teasing him.
"I wouldn't be so sure" he said, smiling.
"I almost defeated Blodhgarm the other day" he said nonchalantly, as if that thing happened almost regularly.
"You seem so sure of yourself, well, I think it would be a bit of a disappointment if the Lead Rider couldn't come close to beating his second-in-command. Are you doing magic training?"
"Non-verbal magic and weaving spells seamlessly together. That is what Umaroth wants me to focus upon."
"Interesting" she said shortly.
"Do you happen to know what happened to that indestructible shield that Rhunon committed at the Blood-Oath ceremony?"
"I think we have it" he said, blushing as he did so, "If you want it, however, we can return it."
"No, Rhunon probably wouldn't mind, although I don't think it is her decision as to whether the ownership is appropriate. Anyway, as long as you put it to a good use, I am sure everyone will be fine with you keeping it. That is, if you can keep concentrating on the fight long enough to put Silvari out of your mind" she said playfully.
"Why does everyone think I am interested in Silvari for a reason other than her skill as an enchantress?" He asked, groaning at the accusation.
"The reason I have need of her, is that I wish to create a few more things like Cuaroc."
"Why" she asked curiously.
"Because it will give the Eldunari something to do and it will also allow me to finish things faster. Many hands make light work, as they say" he said.
"That reminds me, how are the Eldunari going?"
She immediately wished that she hadn't asked that question, as his face dropped noticeably, but to his credit, he still answered her question to his fullest.
"The plus side is that around three quarters are slowly coming around to the treatment that the sane Eldunari are giving them. Around half are going pretty well with the treatment, although some of them we spend more time on than others."
"The bad side" she asked timidly, almost afraid to hear the answer.
"Well, a quarter of the Eldunari that were under Galbatorix's control have not responded to the treatment we have given them, and are still prone to lashing out any living plant, including plants. It would be slightly amusing if not for the fact that this is such a serious and distressing topic, and also that the Eldunari will have to be put down by someone if they don't respond to our attempts to communicate with them."
"How many of them do you believe you can recover, honestly" she requested.
"All but a few of them, the first ones to have been conquered by Galbatorix will have most likely been the worst affected, so I am expecting that of the 5 or 10 of the Eldunari that we will have to destroy, most of them will be the ones that Galbatorix subdued first. Anyway, onto more pleasant topics, I say. How was your flight over here" he asked.
"Not too bad, not too bad. It wasn't helped by the other two talking hours on end while I was trying to absorb the pleasant sounds of Du Weldenvarden. Silvari didn't know exactly what I looked like until she saw me, and Rhunon pointed me out."
"I heard that" said Silvari loudly, but enjoying the banter, "and don't think I didn't know that."
"Who's that" said Eragon, with a small hint of amusement on his face.
"Silvari and Rhunon" she replied, trying to contain a smile.
She was expecting him to be happy at this news, and so she was entirely surprised when his face slacked considerably, and looked a little distressed.
"Did she already know about the … aah, you-know-what?"
"Already know about what, sorry?"
"- Actually, I know what you mean. Rhunon" she said, no longer addressing Eragon, and indeed, no-one she could actually see, "Does Silvari know about the source of power?"
"I assume so" said Rhunon, her voice coming from behind the wall of illusions.
"Yes, she does. She found out about it a long time ago, I think I convinced a dragon to tell her."
"Ok, good" said Eragon, breathing a sigh of relief, "Although she was probably sure to find out about it when she would be making another replica of Cuar-"
"I am so completely and utterly incapable of using my brain. Of course she would know what Eldunari are, she worked with them when she was fashioning Cuaroc."
"I think we can both agree that we are not the brightest bunch in the room" said Arya.
"It's so obvious, I can't believe that I didn't think of it" groaned Eragon, shaking his head.
"Let us not dwell on past mistakes anyway. So, you said to Rhunon you would be able to get the wording for the spells that we need completed."
"Problems arose, and ensue, were overcome. It is safe to say that yes, you will be able to get your wording for the spells."
"Eragon, I have need of your advice. A few weeks ago, when I was in Ellesmera, I had foresight."
"And what did you foresee" he asked.
"I saw a Shade, with a weapon made out of the material that the Dauthdaerts were made out of, and some big, black, ferocious dogs accompanying it. What do you think I should do" she asked, keeping her voice to a whisper.
"Any indication as to when this event will take place?"
"None whatsoever, however, I think that this will be a while after we have finished the spells. As the power that will be vested in our guardian will need time to accumulate, I would place my bet on it being a few years later, Firnen also looked quite a bit bigger."
"Well, in the meantime, I suggest you pray to the Gods" he joked, before noticing her frown.
"I mean seriously, what is the point of worrying about something that might not even happen. However, as you requested, I will offer my advice. I will send a few Eldunari by means of teleportation, and I suggest that you double the number of guards around the forest."
"Anything else?"
"And, I will ask the Eldunari what they think, and consult with them later."
"As a matter of curiosity, how are you going to transport the Eldunari safely, I mean, it is not exactly the most fool-proof way to dematerialise, and materialise, a living object."
"I have my ways" he said mysteriously, a smile playing up at the corner of his lips.
"Eternally the Elf" she said, smiling.
"Eragon the Elf", the words playing up on her lips as the thought came to her head.
"You know" he said conversationally, "we should do this more often. As often as we have time to do it, and I am always free" he joked.
"Very funny Eragon," she replied, but couldn't keep a smile from appearing, "but unfortunately my schedule is not as free-form as yours. Maybe once a month, or once every two months, I am not sure."
"So, should we get the Eldunari sorted out before anything else?"
"Yes, that would be ideal, but unfortunately you are going to have to walk me through it step-by-step, as I have no idea at what you are attempting to do."
"First things first, step off the pedestal and grab the scrying mirror in the study; it should be on the desk."
"I see it" she answered, after stepping off the stone platform ringed with gems and looking around the room to locate the desk, as she was mightily disorientated. After grabbing it, she asked,
"What's next?"
"Go to the statue in the middle of the settlement, the one of Brom and Saphira, and say 'Argetlam, Bjartskular, mor'amr gata.'"
After following Eragon's directions, she eventually made her way to the statue and spoke the words. She watched with a degree of interest as the statue of Brom and Saphira contorted to form a medium sized hollow.
"Pretty," she said, "but I fail to see the point of this."
"Aaah" he chuckled, "I think those were the exact same words Umaroth said to me, anyway, I get distracted. I will now use the spell of instant transportation, which will transport the egg to this cave, which, with the spells I have placed on it, will safely allow the Eldunari to be transported. So, ready for the first one" he asked, with a twinkle in his eyes, holding up a medium sized purple Eldunari.
(Time Change)
"How did you feel that went, Arya-Drottning" he said, with an evident smile on his face.
"Good" she admitted, grumblingly, "However, I wish you had slowed down the pace a little."
"Anything else you need, or are we done here" he asked.
"Done, should we go back to the scrying room."
"I would say so, unless you fancy a small hand held mirror instead of a large, illusionary one, in which case I would advise you to stay put."
"Eragon trying to tell me what to do, now there's a first"
"Hah" he said, "just wait till I'm better at magic than you, then we will see who the real powerhouse is."
She walked slowly back to the scrying room, remembering the directions they took on the way there, not that there were very many anyway. Just before she was going to enter the threshold of the scrying room, she heard a slow rumbling behind her. Turning around to face the source of the noise, she saw that the statue on the stone pedestal had formed back into a model in the likeness of Saphira and Brom. Her curiosity satisfied, she walked into the large, but relatively empty room.
Looking around, she saw Rhunon and Silvari talking animatedly in one corner, and Firnen. Who had somehow made his way into the room, and was lying in the far corner, with a sleepy look on his face. Turning her gaze to the mirror she whispered a few words, and the image of Eragon's face slowly faded, and in turn, replaced by hers. Setting the mirror down on the table, she strode over to stone scrying pedestal in the middle of the room, ready to resume conversing with Eragon.
As soon as she stepped onto the stone platform, the wall of illusion sprung up again, this time, though; she was not startled, having known what would happen beforehand. Eragon was already in the picture, standing next to a black stone pillar.
"I might as well get straight into the topic. I have already built a few settlements like these, and they will act as markers on the way to where we will settle. The one I am in currently is the last one that we will build, and is set inside a cave, on a cliff-face."
He paused to see if there were any questions directed his way, but there wasn't, so he continued almost fluidly.
"I, and all others aboard the Talita, agree that we should make landfall as soon as possible, and start building the settlement straight away. To tarry any longer would be downright disrespectful to all the eggs, and potential riders coming our way. The next large mountain range that we come across, we will claim for our own, and start from there."
"What happens if they aren't suitable, i.e. there are dangers there" she asked.
"We will make them suitable, unless, of course, the mountains are too small, then, we can do nothing but move on, but I severely doubt that. And, as a matter that demands my attention, has any of the dragon eggs hatched?"
"None as of yet, but we still have to send one of the eggs to the Urgals, and the Dwarven egg has not been to all cities, so not all hope is lost."
"Training has also been on my mind, while I am happy to admit that you probably don't have a whole lot of spare time, it should be noted that dragons will have to do a journey that requires them to be a certain size. Therefore, it is my wish that you train them for 6 months at the very least, and up to a year. Now I know that the Eldunari won't be able to teach the rider directly, but you could make an appointment for someone to do the less important matters, for example, like swordplay."
"A year is a long time" she said, a slight crease lining her forehead, "but if that is what is necessary, then I must do it, for duty's sake."
"Thank you. The first satisfactory rider that is up to my expectations, I will send to train the young ones, thereby relieving your burden somewhat."
"Now, before we say good-bye, and I get going, would you like to have a word with Rhunon and Silvari?"
"Yes" he answered, "Silvari first, if you please."
She stepped out of the circle of gems, and off the platform, deactivating the illusionary magic in the process.
"Silvari" she said, somewhat loudly, causing Silvari's head to swive around at lightning speed, "Eragon would like to speak to you before he cuts the connection off."
(PoV change)
Eragon only had to wait a few seconds before Silvari stepped onto the platform. She had lush, long, greyish-silver hair and startling blue eyes. She was wearing a light blue tunic, which went perfectly with her eyes. Tearing his gaze from those beautiful, albeit haunting, eyes, he addressed her.
"I am assuming you are like Rhunon, so I needn't bother with polite introductions. As I am sure you already know, I am Eragon Shadeslayer, Son of Brom, and the newest leader of the Dragon rider order. Let's hope that I am going to do a better job than the last one."
"Galbatorix," he added, when he saw her confusion.
"Right about me being a trifle rude, or so the elves would call me. Yes, I already know a lot about you. I am Silvari, Enchantress, Fashioner of Cuaroc, as I am sure you already know, and one of the oldest living members of our race. The only ones being older are Rhunon, who is the oldest, and 3 others that I am sure that you have never heard of, and I haven't spoken to in years. I am the strongest spell caster in the whole elven race, If I do say so myself, and aside from Dragon riders, I have always been one of the most gifted spell casters to walk this land. I may even be better than Tenga, and definitely Angela."
"I have two questions. One, why weren't you in my original guard, and two, is Angela really that strong, or Tenga for that matter?"
"I am too valuable to be risked in the conflict, just like Rhunon. Tenga is very strong, he, as you probably don't know, invented the spell that warps space, among other things he devised. He is truly exceptional, although I heard tell that he has gone a little mad."
"You could say that again, well I am certainly not going to get on their bad sides any time in the near future."
"Compared to Vrael, who would be the better spell caster?"
"Tough decision, I would say Vrael though. Tenga may be the more innovative one, but none could match Vrael at using magic, especially in a fight. Galbatorix defeated him by mere fluke, and none of the spells that Galbatorix ever found, were of any use against Vrael. This is keeping in mind that Galbatorix had spells he had learnt from shades, beings that are almost the embodiment of magic, albeit manifested into a physical body."
"Thanks for the information, however, there was another matter which I want to pursue. How would you like to make an unspecified amount, probably 45, versions of Cuaroc" he asked, with a spark in his eyes.
(Time change)
Arya stood in front of him, smiling.
"So, how did she take the plan?"
"Quite well actually, once I told her of the exact details. She said she would think about it, and Rhunon said she would definitely help."
"Is that decided?"
"What?"
"Is Rhunon going to your place, the one where you will settle" she asked.
"Yes, but Silvari is undecided. It will be interesting to see whether she will come sooner or later, I doubt she will find something else to do."
"Do we need to cover any other matters" she asked him.
"I don't think so, we talked a lot while we were transporting the Eldunari and the scrolls so I am pretty sure that everything of importance has been discussed to some level."
"So," he said sadly, the tips of his lips playing down at the corners, "I think this is goodbye for real now, though."
"Yes, good bye Eragon, and May the stars watch over you" she said in the ancient language, before doing the traditional elven gesture of respect.
He responded in kind, before adding, "Once I have built the dragon-rider city, I would like you to see it."
"For you" she replied, "I will make time to see it. For you, Eragon" she said, with a hint of both sadness and affection. The last thing that he saw on the illusionary wall was a display of mixed emotions emanating from the one he truly loved.
(PoV change)
The words of Eragon echoed through her mind, she replayed them over and over again, 'I would like you to see it.' An innocent enough request on the outside, but one with so much gravity, especially from one who had feelings for her, that she had to consider it fully. If it had been anyone else, the answer probably would have been a straight out denial, but it was Eragon. She couldn't forget the reaction that Eragon displayed as he heard her last words. Finally, she thought, she was entirely convinced, right down to the bone, that she had found someone who loved her to the absolute. That was why she had said yes, it was for Eragon, not anyone else, just Eragon.
A/N Good day to all readers,
My longest chapter yet, I wish to warn you that I am going away soon to America so I might not be able to finish my story before I go.
I was very pleased with this chapter; however, I am aiming to get this story up to 100,000 words, once I am done. This will be fulfilled by expanding on some of the previous chapters, and getting the (actual) chapter count up to 25. I know how I am going to end it, but have to work out the middle stuff.
Actually had a good time writing this, and I hope I did the relationship justice. I don't think Arya was serious enough, and I tend to treat humans and elves the same, but apart from that I thought I did a pretty good job.
Just for those who are interested, this took up 12-ish pages on Microsoft Word in size 11 font, Calibri.
Could someone please tell me why FanFiction adds extra words to my document, i.e. the word count on MS word is different to the one on FF.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inheritance Cycle
Hope you enjoyed this chapter, please review, and sorry for the rambling in the A/N.

P.S. An alternative title would have been 'A reunion removed.'
