Lucy woke up to quietness on the ship. She normally heard snoring or chatter, but it was quiet. She stretched and got dressed. She walked out of the hammock area and noticed people were already up and eating.
Most people looked happy. She saw a familiar face eating breakfast alone and decided to eat with her. She sat next to Marianna, who was eating a pickle looking disgusted. Marianna looked up at her, and Lucy asked, "Can I sit next to you?"
Marianna nodded and patted the wooden floor next to her. Lucy sat down and asked, "Have you seen any of my siblings up yet?"
Marianna nodded, "Susan was up a while ago to get some water, towels, and bandages to help Caspian, Edmund was steering the ship for a while, and Peter walked Louise around because she was in pain."
Lucy smirked, "Did I really sleep that long?"
"No, your siblings are just early birds."
Marianna gestured towards Eustace, who was talking to Markell, "Who is he? I know you know him in some way…but how?
Lucy waved to him, and he waved back, "He's our cousin, and we went on the Dawn Treader together."
Susan woke Caspian up and whispered gently, "I have to clean your wounds again. Here bite on this to ease the pain."
She put a towel in his mouth to bite down on. She used a rag and put it in a bucket filled with water. She rubbed it over his back. At first, Caspian winced and made a noise that meant he was in pain.
She rubbed him gently trying not to hurt him anymore. She squeezed the bloody rag out over the bucket and got it soaked with more water. She hummed to a comforting tune to calm herself and Caspian down.
She took the towel out of his mouth, and he asked in a cracked voice, "When can I go outside?"
"Once your fever goes down…maybe one more day. If I keep cleaning it regularly. You're going to have some nice scars."
Caspian sighed, "Perfect….How did Eustace get here?"
Susan grinned, "As always some kind of magic…..I'll be right back with fresh water."
Susan walked out of the room looking weary. Lucy skipped up to her. Susan was carrying a bucket with her, and a rag was in it. Lucy smiled trying to get Susan to return the favor, "Can I help you with anything?"
Susan handed Lucy the bucket. Just dump it into the ocean and put fresh water in it. Then bring the bucket and a new rag to my room."
Lucy nodded and looked in the bucket, "Is this like, all blood?"
Susan nodded and walked away back into her room. Marianna walked up to Lucy. "What's in the bucket?"
Lucy replied, "Basically, Caspian's blood."
Marianna didn't want to look into the bucket. She said, "I can help you Lucy, if you want."
"Of course. Let's dump it out together."
Peter walked Louise to the railing, and she breathed heavily. She looked at the waves below her. "My cramps are really bad, Pete."
Peter rubbed her stomach, and she turned to face him. "Thank you. That feels nice."
Peter smiled at her, and she returned the favor. He whispered, "I love you."
She kissed him wholeheartedly, and he kissed back. They noticed Lucy and Marianna dump something out of a bucket over the edge of a ship.
Peter walked over to them, "What are you doing?"
Lucy looked at him, "Helping Susan….What are you doing?"
"Helping Louise,"
Lucy rolled her eyes at her brother. She looked at Louise, who looked like she was in pain. "Are you alright Louise?"
Louise hid her pain, "Yes, thank you Lucy."
Peter went to her side right after Lucy's comment and gave her helpful eyes. She shook her head, so Lucy and Marianna wouldn't know there was a problem. Lucy eyed the two of them before walking away with Marianna.
They walked into Susan and Caspian's room together. Lucy knocked, and Susan opened the door at just a crack. She took the bucket out of Lucy's hands. Before she could shut the door, Lucy asked, "Can I see him?"
Susan looked behind her at her husband and then back at Lucy. "Alright, he is very sick though and in pain. He'll try and make you persuade me into letting him out of bed."
Lucy covered her mouth with her hand and giggled. "Sounds like Caspian."
Marianna stood awkwardly outside the door as Lucy walked in. Susan looked at her, "You can come in too Marianna….if you want."
Marianna looked anywhere but at Susan, "Okay."
Caspian was lying in the bed exposing his back. His face looked red and swollen. He was sweating and the marks on his back were red and painful looking. Susan carried the bucket over, and she said sweetly, "You have visitors."
He smiled on the side of the pillow, "Can you guys rescue me from this suffocating room?"
Susan looked at the two of them and whispered, "See? Did I not say?"
Lucy and Marianna giggled, and Caspian said confused, "Did I miss something?"
Lucy walked over to him, "How are you feeling?"
"Other than the pain in my back and uncontrollable shivering and sweating? I'm doing just fine."
Lucy rolled her eyes, "Well you do look horrible."
Caspian chuckled, "At least someone will be honest with me. Susan tells me I look fine but hesitates."
Caspian fixated his eyes on Marianna, "So what brings you here?"
She couldn't help but stare at him without his shirt on. Marianna shrugged her shoulders, "I just wanted you to know I hope you get better soon." She then added sarcastically, "Everyone's just dying without you."
Lucy and Susan chuckled, and Caspian added, "Ha ha very funny. Well thanks for saying hi you two….now go and devise a plan to get me out of here."
Susan looked at the two of them, "I'm going to clean him. So you're going to have to leave now."
The two left, and Susan tended to his wounds the same way she did last time. She then bandaged him up. She wrapped the bandage around his torso and made him put on a comfy shirt. He then rolled onto his back and winced in pain as he did.
Susan sat on the edge of the bed and felt his head. "Do you feel warm?"
Caspian said with seriousness, "I feel like I'm burning. But I'm shivering."
Susan nodded with understanding, "It's just your body fighting off the infection. I'll go get you a rag with cool water to put on your head."
She got up and walked away. He grabbed her hand, "You don't have to do that for me."
She smiled down at him, "In sickness and in health remember?"
Caspian chuckled and released her hand, "Just be quick. I hate being alone."
Edmund was looking out trying to find another island. The ship wasn't in any condition to sail long distances. He heard the person in the crow's nest shout, "Land! The place looks inhabited."
Peter stood next to his brother, and they looked out to the sea. They saw an island with an actual place to dock the ship. Peter yelled out to the crew, "We're going to stop here! Prepare for docking!"
Susan overheard Peter while carrying the cold cloth. She ran to the edge of the ship and looked out to see land. She smiled at the sight. Rose walked up next to her. "I'm happy to get off this ship and stretch my legs."
Susan looked at the cloth in her hand. "I won't be going."
"Why not? Don't you need a break from your sea legs?"
"Caspian still isn't doing well. Someone needs to be here for him. Besides, I did get off the ship at the last island."
Marianna looked back out to the island, "I understand. I know how it can be with a husband…..things aren't going well for me and Markell."
Susan turned to Rose abruptly, "What do you mean not going well?"
Rose shook her head, "Nothing….I shouldn't have said anything. How is your pregnancy going?"
Susan looked down at her stomach, "Only getting the minor symptoms. Without them I wouldn't notice much of a difference in me."
Rose began to walk away, and Susan blurted out, "But what is wrong with you and Markell? He loves you."
She looked down, "He's getting second thoughts about me now that he's spending time with you again, Susan."
Susan looked at Markell, who was standing in the distance. He smiled and waved at her. Susan knew what she had to do. To save his marriage, she had to avoid him best she could.
Lucy looked out over the railing to the new island ahead of her. She was scared especially from her fear of the last island. She felt someone stand next to her. It was Eustace. He was looking out as well. "I'm actually glad to be back."
Lucy shook her head, "No offense Eustace, but I'm not. If you're here then Aslan thinks this voyage is dangerous. More people, means more of a fight. Caspian always says there's strength in numbers."
Eustace looked out again, "So what have I missed? Besides the fact Susan and Caspian got married….and so did Louise and Peter."
Lucy hesitated before she answered, "Not that much. I've been courting someone for a while too."
"So only Edmund? He's the only one left?"
Lucy giggled, "He doesn't want anyone to court. He's…..actually I have no idea why he doesn't want to court anyone. You should go ask him."
Eustace looked around to try and spot the dark haired boy. He didn't want to get into Edmund's personal life, especially since he knew Edmund never liked him. He just stood by Lucy watching the island get bigger.
Caspian watched as his gorgeous wife came into the room with a wet cloth. He smiled gratefully at her presence. He noticed the hurt and upset look upon her face, and he choked out, "What happened, Susan?"
Susan shrugged her shoulders, "Oh, I don't know. I'm the reason for a collapsing marriage."
She gently, put the cloth on his forehead, and he winced at the cold feeling. Then the cold sensation felt comforting to his clammy skin. He sighed thankfully into the chill and just above a whisper said with full seriousness, "I'm sure that you're not the reason for it Susan. People can't blame you for their problems."
Susan sat on the edge of the bed caressing his hand in hers. "I'm pretty sure Markell might have feelings for me Caspian."
Caspian stared at where their hands were. He dropped her hand as he said with anger, "Where did you here that? He loves Rose."
Susan put her hands in her lap. "Rose told me that he was getting second thoughts seeing me again."
Caspian shook his head in disbelief, "I don't belief this. Did I tell you what he told me when I first saw him on the ship?"
Susan looked at Caspian intrigued for him to go on as she said, "No, you didn't."
Caspian sighed out his nose, "Markell came up to me personally and said I still love Susan but like a sister, not as a wife. He said that he loved Rose. He was a real man about it."
Susan looked into her husband's deep brown eyes. He reached out his hand to touch her face. He rubbed it in a soothing way. She smiled down at him. He continued, "You can't blame yourself Susan. If Rose thinks that's what's happening, then just avoid the two of them. Let them be together and figure it out themselves."
Susan leaned down and pecked his cheek. He had a big grin on his face. Suddenly, they felt the ship stop rocking and come to a stop. Susan stood up. "I think we just docked."
Caspian raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"
"We found another island. There's an actual place to dock the ship, and there's actual civilization there."
Caspian looked at his wife. "Well you should go."
"No. I don't want to leave you here all alone. Besides the ship needs the two of us here. I'll just go check on everyone, I'll be right back."
Peter threw the anchor over the edge of the ship. When he did, the crew was eager and excited to get another break from the sea. Since Caspian wasn't feeling well, Susan spoke for him.
She said, "We have a few hours to gather supplies and bring them back to the ship. For everyone being a well behaved crew, we will spend the night on this island. There should be a place to stay a night. If not, we can camp on the beach…..get you guys away from the hammocks and the rocking ship."
The crew cheered and laughed from their Queen's comment. They were anxious as they waited for at least one of the royals to get off the ship first. Peter got off and paid a man to keep the ship docked where it was.
The ship was deserted except for Susan and Caspian. Susan wandered back into the room. She opened the door slowly, just in case if her husband was asleep. Her accusation was correct. He wasn't sleeping peacefully to her dismay.
Caspian was sweating and jostling his body around. Susan knew he was having a nightmare. She placed a light-gentle hand on his shoulder and shook him tenderly. His eyes fluttered open. She noticed a hint of fear in them before he noticed who was looking down at him.
He croaked out, "So….where are we?"
Susan sat on the edge of the bed, while Caspian sat up. "On an actual inhabited island."
Caspian smirked, "No people trying to kill us this time?"
"Not that I know of," She looked towards the mirror and saw her reflection. In the reflection, she noticed Caspian gawking at her curiously.
She played with the ends of her hair, "What were you dreaming about? You looked like you were having a nightmare."
Caspian sighed, "You caught me. Well, someone on the ship. I don't know who it was, their face was blurry. But they helped you give birth to our child, and you died giving birth. Then the person killed our baby."
Susan watched him as if every word was falling from the ends of his lips. She held his hand and rubbed his knuckles in a comforting way. He melted into her cool touch.
She raised her voice just above a whisper, "I can take you out to the deck. No one is here except the two of us. There's a beautiful sunset outside."
He reached up and touched her cheek, "I wouldn't want anything else right now."
She smiled and grabbed a shirt for him to put on. He took it willingly. She helped him out of bed. She walked him to one of the edges of the ship, and he leaned on the railing.
They smiled up at the sky together. He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close. Susan whispered into his chest, "Love is out tonight."
Caspian looked up at the star the two named at the beginning of the trip. It was the brightest shining star in the sky. Caspian said back, "I guess the star knows we're here tonight."
Susan leaned her head more into his chest. "Not a cloud in the sky to block it."
Caspian placed his hand on her stomach and rubbed it. Susan looked up into his eyes and smiled. She put a finger underneath his chin and pulled his face down until their lips collided into one another. When they released, they stared into one each other's eyes.
Susan whispered, "You are going to be a great father."
"Not as great as you will be a mother."
Lucy and Frederick were in an alleyway kissing until they heard a noise. They heard someone whispering silently. Lucy pulled away, "Don't you hear that?"
Frederick looked around, "What? All I hear is someone, walking."
A familiar woman walked up to them and said, "If the two of you don't do as I say, I will kill the both of you. Also, I will make sure the royal family will be dead too. Never tell anyone who I am."
Lucy was scared and didn't want to betray her family. But she didn't want any of them to die. So, she said, "What is it you want?"
The woman smiled darkly and happily, "I want you, Queen Lucy to give me all the information you know on Queen Susan and her baby."
