Shadows of Knowledge

Summary: Kaiba has failed another year of high school due to how much school he's missed. Yugi and Ryou are in the same boat. The board of Kaiba Corp and his investors aren't happy. Instead of staying at Domino High School for another year SetoKaiba sets up his own school with plans to learn more about the Shadows.

Chapter Three

"To unlock to Pharaohs memories I need all three Egyptian God cards and all Seven Millennium items. And to present those items to the table of the Pharaohs lost memories." Yugi told them all. Ishizu agreeing with the reincarnated Pharaoh.

"That tablet is still in the Domino Museum, once you're mission is complete I will move the tablet back to the family Tombs." Ishizu told Yugi.

"Since its in Domino and we don't have to go far I want all my friends to come with me" Yugi replied happily, smiling to the Pharaoh who was agreeing about their friends coming along.

"I already know what you're trying to recover so won't be coming along" Seto told them. Set agreeing with him that it was for the best that someone stayed and watched over them while Yugi and Yami were in the world of memories. Someone needed to make sure no one interfered from the outside. "I also don't think your two new friends should come along."

"I hate to agree with Kaiba, but he's right." Tea agreed. "Ron and Ginny haven't had the same experiences with Shadow magic that we've had. And we've already been keeping Yami, Set and the Thief King secret from them."

Wasting no time the small group made their way to the museum. It was after hours so the museum was currently closed so they wouldn't be disturbing the public. Yugi and his friends had decided that since they didn't have to leave the country that it was Friday afternoon after school it was the best time to start.

Ryou stood with him looking disappointed that he couldn't go. He'd been marked as unworthy because of the Thief King and there was no way to guarantee that only his spirit would enter the memory realm. As Tomb Guardians neither could Ishizu or Marik enter the realm. Ishizu didn't have any interest in going but Marik spoke of his disappointment rather vocally.

"I know you have a trap planned, don't even think about it. You'll get the ring back once they're all back." Kaiba said to the tomb robber who was still with them.

"We should get to work setting up protective wards so no-one can intervene with the dream world." Ishizu suggested.

Set took over his body to place the wards with Ishizu and Marik. Not that he could be seen in spirit form, but he went to sit with Mokuba, Ryou and Amane. He probably could've placed the wards himself but the ancient priest had more experience in the regard of magic and this wasn't a time for mistakes due to his inexperience in magic. Even though he wasn't in control of his body at the moment, the priest doing the spells was building his bodies stamina when it came to performing magic.

Once the spells were in place and he had control of his body again he pulled out his laptop to do work, much to Mokuba's complaining.

It was several hours later when the museum was due to opened for the weekend when they saw Bill and family arrive at the museum. Unfortunately Yugi and the others were still in the memory world. They couldn't take the wards down just yet.

"What's with all the magical wards?" Bill asked, poking at the different wards. "They're so old. They're amazing. So fresh and ancient at the same time. I've never felt anything like this before."

"Don't even think of un-weaving those spells. They are up for a reason. Ishizu scolded the curse breaker.

"How much longer do you need them up for?" Bill asked. He looked very curious to know why the wards were up in the first place.

"We're not sure. We were actually expecting to have taken them down by now." Ishizu replied.

Curled up asleep after the long night was Mokuba, Marik and Amane. The only ones still awake was himself, Ishizu and Ryou. Unlike himself and Ishizu, Ryou had a little bit of a sleep. Amane should've been sent back to the mansion but had refused to leave. She wanted to be involved with what everyone else was doing, the same went for Mokuba.

"Can I attempt to take them down when they are no longer needed?" Bill asked. His eyes gleaming like those of an excited child.

Ishizu looked towards Kaiba who nodded that it would be fine for the curse breaker to attempt to remove the wards. He'd be very surprised if he even managed to remove five percent of the wards. The wards were very different then modern magic users where familiar with. The magic was secret magic that was contained to the Pharaohs, the Millennium council and the tomb keepers clan.

"Big brother. I'm hungry." Mokuba told him running sleep out of his eyes.

"I'll call Roland to pick you up and take you to breakfast." he replied to his brother.

"He's not going to take me to school after breakfast. Because you've done that to me before." Mokuba accused him.

"Not today. I'll get him to bring you back here." He replied. Mokuba had obviously forgot today was Saturday and he didn't actually have any school.

Ginevra was looking directly at Amane who was still asleep on the stairs.

"She's really pretty." Ronald said. Noticing the direction his sister was staring in. "Who is she? I've never seen her before"

"She was in our house in my year level at school." Ginny told her brother sadly.

"Was? I don't remember ever seeing her before." Ronald replied.

"Well you should remember her." Ginny snapped. "She's the girl who was taken down into the chamber."

"Oh yeah. I remember her now." Ron answered. "She looks a lot different now than she did then. Why didn't she return to school? She looks fine to me."

"Hi Amane." Ginny greeted the girl when she woke up. "Do you remember me. It's Ginny. We used to share a dorm with one another."

Amane moved over to Ryou clinging to his shirt. The normally bubbly girl was scared of the girl in front of her. Amane shook her head no. Seto didn't blame her, he wouldn't want to wake up with someone staring at him like that.

"She doesn't remember anything from Hogwarts." Ryou told her.

"Victorie." Amane pointed towards Fleur and her young daughter. Hoping up and looking at the little girl. Amane had spent a lot of time with her Fleur and Victorie in Egypt. "That's a pretty name. Victoire. Hi Victoire my name's Amane." Amane was fascinated by the baby.

"Didn't you idiots see Amane in Egypt?" He asked the pair in English. He highly doubted they'd be able to understand him if he insulted them in Japanese.

"I think I'd remember that." Ginny replied.

"No he's right. She was there. She stayed behind with Mokuba and the Yugi's grandfather." Ronald replied.

"But that girl is Ryou's sister." Ginny replied.

"So! Just because he was in Slytherin and she was in Gryffindor doesn't mean anything. Sirius and his brother were in different houses." Ronald replied.

"But they didn't get along." Ginny replied.

"Not everyone sorted into Slytherin are evil. I know a number of siblings and cousins who get along who where sorted into different houses." Bill told his younger siblings. "Take Sirius again. He got along with one of his cousins who was sorted into Slytherin."

"Bakura, if you care for your sister so much why didn't you stop her getting taken into the chamber? Where were you at the time?" Ginny shouted at him.

"The hospital wing. I was petrified. I wonder how I'm still alive. I looked the basilisk right in the eyes." Ryou pondered.

"Don't be silly. You saw it's reflection. If you'd looked it directly in the eyes you'd be dead." Ginny replied.

"Now that you mention it. He really was petrified. He had the bed next to Hermione. She could never work out what you'd seen the reflection in. There were no windows, mirrors, suites of armour, water or anything else with a reflective surface." Ron replied. "Harry mentioned that the only one who ever visited him was his sister. I only remember because Hermione kept going on and on about it. She was obsessed for months. The only thing she could think of was maybe you saw it through a ghost."

"There is ancient magic in play. Ryou, you have a destiny to fulfil. The gods must be interfering to keep you alive." Ishizu replied. "Does Set have any suggestions?"

"There's that name again. Who is Set?" Ronald asked.

"Set said there is ancient magic in play to help keep the chosen ones alive until our destinies are fulfilled. Placed by the Pharaoh before him. That he and the council then strengthened after the Pharaoh was sealed. He also said that knowing that we shouldn't be reckless with our lives. The gods may choose to keep us dead." Seto said relaying the message from the ancient spirit.

"So we're temporarily immortal. That's a little bit scary." Ryou replied with a smile that didn't show any fear at all.

"Gods?" Bill asked. "Immortal?"

"The Egyptian Gods." Ishizu replied.

Roland arrived at the same time as Ryou's father saving the reincarnations from having to go into further detail.

"Daddy." Amane called out happily. It was the first time she'd seen her father outside of the hospital.

Ryou couldn't even make eye contact with the man, but he moved closer to his sister who was still fussing over the baby.

"Children." He greeted. Not even realising his daughter shouldn't be there.

"Let him through." Seto told Ishizu.

She nodded, opening the wards temporarily while the man walked towards his office. He was so oblivious what was going on around him and wouldn't interfere with what Yugi and Yami were doing.

"Sir." Roland greeted him. Handing over a coffee which he gladly took. He also had a box of food and messages that had come in overnight for work. Honestly he never really stopped.

"Who's coming with me for breakfast?" Mokuba asked.

"Can you take Amane with you?" Ryou asked. "You just need to keep a close eye on her."

"Right. You're not coming."

"No, I need to stay close to Koe." Ryou replied.

"I'm going too." Marik mumbled, still half asleep.

"Who's Koe?" Ginny asked.

"No one that concerns you." Seto told Ginny.

"Just like Set and Yami doesn't concern us." Ronald rolled his eyes.

"Exactly."

Ginny and Ronald wouldn't understand anyway. No use to explaining ancient sprits that could posses them and that they weren't evil ... well not all of them were evil.

"I'll stay as well." Ishizu told them. "Bill, Fleur, Ginny, Ron. You're welcome to go with them. It's going to be a while before you can enter."

"I would prefer to examine these wards some more." Bill told them.

"I'd prefer it if you didn't" Ishizu replied. "They'll still be here when you get back."

He just wanted them gone that he didn't even care that Ginevra and Ronald where going in his car. Amane happily left since Fleur and Victorie were going.

"Remember to share Seto. Oh and you need to eat as well." Mokuba told him before they climbed in the car.

"Marik, behave." Ishizu shouted to her brother as they left.

"Before you take him, let him eat first." Seto said to the thin air

'Ah so you did know I was there High Priest reincarnated.' The Thief King said. 'I've been waiting for Amane to leave.'

"Koe is here?" Ryou looked around not seeing the thief.

'Hurry up and eat. I need the body.' The Thief King said still not making himself visible.

'It's fine. This is a part of the Pharaoh's test. I was actually expecting this to happen during the night.' Set replied. 'There is an evil deep in the Thief Kings Heart that still needs to be cleansed. He's changed a lot since he joined with his reincarnation. Changed for the better. I believe under different circumstances the Thief King and I could've been friends.'

The Thief let Ryou eat his fill before he took over and took the boy into the wards.

"You really should eat." Ishizu told him.

"As should you. Roland didn't just bring this for me. He bought this for you as well." Seto replied.

He was sitting at his computer, curious about the adventure Yugi, Joey, Tristan, Tea and now Ryou were having. This wasn't helping with his work. He wasn't even sure why he was hanging around. Ishizu was capable of keeping the wards up on her own and Yugi had his friends to help him. He didn't know when he got so attached to these nuisances but now he couldn't imagine his life without them. It had been nice of them to take Mokuba in when he was missing. That they actually helped look for him. They were actually concerned for him. They helped him when he returned home. Why? He still couldn't work out. He wasn't a very nice person. Especially when they first met.
